Restore original Sony firmware on Xperia Z with Linux tools

Hello,
I tried Cyanogenmod 10.2 Milestone and after that my IMEI was gone and I could not make calls any longer.
I now would like to restore the original Sony firmware for my Xperia Z. But, I do not use and do not have MS Windows. I have the Android SDK installed.
How can I restore the original Sony firmware just with Linux tools? Can I do that with the Android SDK?
Thank you in advance.

GREAT! I HAVE MY IMEI BACK!!!
After installing the latest Cyanogenmod I have my IMEI back and the SIM card works again.
To avoid future problems, how do I backup my IMEI? What folders or files do I need to backup the IMEI?
Thank you.

  • Help: Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware

I want to recover a complete image of a Windows 7 operating system I have backed up to my other server. But I am getting the error "Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware. The System Image was created by a computer using BIOS and this computer is using EFI"
The image was definitely taken from this machine - the firmware has not changed!
What do I need to do to restore the image?
    Background Story ..
I bought a new HP 255 laptop per-installed with Windows 7 without Operating Systems instal disks (I will NEVER be stupid enough to do that again!).
I took a complete image of the systems, as suggested so that I was well backed up.
However, my machine corrupted its operating systems with a few weeks. The boot recovery CD did not work (would not boot). So in desperation, and because time was short I went out and bought another, legitimate copy of Windows 7 DVD with a license key (So now I have 2, legitimate copies of the operating system!).
I installed the new copy of Windows 7 - but it was dreadful, because many drivers were missing. Mostly the missing drivers were not available on the HP support site for this machine. ALso, boot up was increadibly slow compared to the original OS installation.
So I created a new boot recovery disk from the new version of Windows, and tried to restore using that. New boot disk loads ok, I can find the old image on my network (after loading a few network drivers). But I won't instal the image - giving the above error message.
I tried deleting the EFI partition from the disk (using GPARTED to reformat that partition). That killed the Windows 7 on the machine - but still gives the same error message when I try to re-image the machine.
I have tried going into the BIOS settings .. HP 255 has a "Legacy Mode" - which I have enabled, but this makes no difference at all!
I think that the kind of solutions I am looking for might be:
    1. There is a clever way of disabling EFI on my 255 so that it looks like a legacy BIOS machine, or
    2. This EFI this is wired into my new boot recovery disk - and there is a way of creating a boot recovery disk that does not use EFI
This has taken me about 2 weeks so far, please help with any suggestions!

    Erico,
I suspect that "MSDOS" is what the Gparted tool calls "MBR" for a partition table, as explained here:
    http://superuser.com/questions/700770/mbr-equals-msdos-for-gparted
I think that you are suggesting I give up on trying to recover the image I have stored on my server and just to instal Windows 7 from my new copy. There are two problems with this.
    1. After having systematically downloaded all of the drivers from the HP 255 notebook support page, I am still seeing missing drivers listed. Install the AMD graphics softpaq driver first. It also contains the chipset drivers.
    2. The machine is taking a hugely long time to boot up, and seems much slower with this version. Maybe that is a product of using "EFI" rather than "bios" - I don't know.
My assumption is that HP had some special set-up option with their version of Windows which makes the machine more performant. It does not seem to be a coincidence that the image they deliver the machine with is not quite compatible with a 'normal' Windows 7 instal.
So my original question stands: How do I recover the image that I saved away (as per instructed) when I first bough the machine?
You still have not said what you used to create the system image. What is the "image" file's extension?
You are mistaken in your comparison. MSDOS is an operating sytem MBR is a partitioning scheme.  that is comparing apples to oranges.
The article is making an oblique reference in that using GPARTED is more or less equated to using the diskpart utility at the command line. Everything done at the comand line is essentially  done by use of MSDOS commands. GPARTED does the same thing with LINUX commands via a graphical interface so you don't have to type in the commands in a  Linux console.
Do you mean making a backup? a backup is not a clone which can be reproduced on different hardware. The SSD disk replacement does make the hardware differ from the original configuration.
Follow the instaructions on the following tutorial to make your disk a GPT type before installing.

  • HT201210 I am stuck with "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt" message.

    Hi
I have an iPad mini and it was on iOS 6.1.3, my friend came and he said that he knows how to install iOS 7 for me. I gave it to him and he tried to install it, but apparently he failed to do so and an "Activation Error" is appearing on the screen now asking me to register in the developers program.
Now, we are trying to restore it back to iOS 6.1.3 using iTunes, the software downloads well and it starts restoring but that I keep getting this error message "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt.".
I am sure that the file is not corrupted because it's downloaded via iTunes regular download and it's not from an outside source.
I am stuck with this now and my iPad is useless this way.
    Please any suggestions ?

Yes, don't download Beta Software that you have no business or legal right to download and quit taking bad advice from friends.
Now to maybe get you out of the restoring jam, the only thing that I can think of that might work is to use recovery mode, unless you already tried it and it didn't work.
You can read about it here, but the instructions are posted below.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

Sounds like you bought the iPad secondhand and the previous owner did not remove it from his/her iCloud account.
If you are unable to contact the original owner, the iPad is (unfortunately) useless to you.

  • Cannot restore original iPhone to original firmware, can someone help?

Alright, I have tried literally everything virtually possible to fix my iPhone.  Currently it is in this state:
And I want to fix it up and make it back to the original iPhone firmware.  It currently has no firmware installed.  It cannot install any firmware and if I try it will just fail.  Please help.

    **SOLVED***
After wasting 6hrs and trying everything under the sun, Redsnow, TinyUmbrella, Snowblizzard, Ziphone, ect, ect..
I was able to resolve this by simply switching usb ports..  I was dong this on an Acer netbook and just went from the 2 usb portside to the main one near the power source..  RESTORED via Itunes and I am back to a working phone...
Not sure what caused the issue tho, as I was on a (presumebly) bone stock Iphone and simply tried to update the software from the phone...

  • Xperia Z1 with TVsideview not found TV sony XBR-52HX909

    Hello,
    Please help.
I have Xperia Z1 with TVsideview app on phone . I try many time to add devive but it not found TV sony XBR-52HX909. This series is compatible with listed. Both is the same network ( TV with wired and Phone with wireless in the same network)
Anyone know hot to add sony TV into sony Z1 ? The TV XBR-52HX909 was updated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Xperia Z1 doesn't have the IR feature that Xperia tablet Z have which make it possible to use the tablet as a remote control.
Some TV:s have an application that you can download to your phone from Google Play to use it as a remote.

  • Xperia Live with Walkman on Android 4.0.4 (with screenies)

My Thoughts on Android 4.0.4 on Xperia Live with Walkman
    -Sleeker Font Style.
-Camera Shortcut right from the Lock Screen.
-Able to access the drop down notification bar even when locked.
-Music Player access right from the lock screen
    -New Owner Info Option display
-Face Unlock works great on Live with walkman.
-Awesome new themes. Xperia NXT Style! Although they are only wallpapers, not the live ones seen on 2012 devices. My favorite is Tourquoise (Did I spell that right?)
-The Performance Assistant will help you disable some of the apps that you dont need.
-There it is! Official Android 4.0.4. Ice Cream Sandwich. OH YEAHHHH!!!
-If you repeatedly tap on the Android Version Menu. This little Primitive Droid will surprise you. HEHE!!
-Oh, and there's also a new logo when you start up your phone : SONY ONLY not Sony Ericsson, and in its ever-so-recognizable font style. =P
-The Sony Ericsson Liquid Logo has also been changed to Walkman, with a bubbly and quirky animation.
-Ill try to post screenies if I can.
-Greatly Improved Android Browser. Seriously, It's WAAAAYYY smoother than the one in GB.
-The Browser runs smoother than GB.
-Websites with heavy flash content load smoothly. =D
-Saved Pages Option to view pages offline.
    - Only Android provides true multitasking capabilities.
    - Hold the Home Button and you will be taken to this new recent/running apps tab. Swipe to the right and that app is closed. =D!!!
    -Widget Preview.
    - A NEW Gallery aside from the Xperia Gallery. The new gallery provides edit options. Like Picsart or Instagram or Adobe Photoshop Express. So, if you want to save some precious memory, stick with the gallery editing options =D
-HD playback still smooth as ever. I don't know what the fuss is all about. =P
-Images look fine as they did in gingebread. It really depends on shooting situations.
-Captured 720p HD Videos doesn't lag for me. Play back is smooth. Same as in gingerbread.
-Maybe, People are just not used to the new interface, but with a little bit of tinkering, you should get used to it in no time. =P
-The New Camera Interface. It now includes a dedicated on screen camera button.
-Captured Photos Quality are the same as in Gingerbread.
-Captured 720p HD Videos run as smooth as in Gingerbread.
    - The New YouTube App interface.
    - The Lockscreen Music Player
    - There was a review about not seeing the clock due to the music player. Duhhh, you can see it at the upper right corner. =P
    - I love how the album art and the album name also appears. If you are like me who converts songs from youtube to mp3. A little app called Tune Wiki can help you edit its tags so you can enable infinity view. =D
-The New Dial Pad, which provides Smart Dialing.
-About the lagginess issue. It takes about 2-3 seconds to start. It depends on how many entries you have in your call log.
-There's a workaround on it though, access it through Contacts.
    - RAM usage feels the same for me. Good Job on this one Sony. =D
    - I was really worried about RAM ever since I read Sony's article about GB and ICS. They did well on optimizing this one.
    - My screenshot is not the best there is since I was syncing Facebook inside Xperia. But, normally it has about 180mb used and 160mb free.
    - New APPS installed. Some apps like Wisepilot for Xperia can now be moved to SD card, thereby freeing more phone memory.
    - My New Homescreen. It retains the very convenient four corner bubbles.
    - 5 Widget Panes
    - A New Google Search Widget
    - Walkman Player. I was expecting the music player from the NXT series. Hehe, but I guess this will have to do. =D
    - I've never seen the refresh music library option even in the GB walkman player. Through experience, everytime I add a music file it gets added in real time. No refresh required...
    - Oh, and also... I think the speaker is a tad bit louder than before. Like 20% louder. I noted no distortions
    - The orange lights work as usual.
    - Still no customizable equalizer. This is a walkman phone. It has to have superb music customization capabilities. =P
    - Battery usage for me remains the same like in GB.
-Monster Use/Heavy Gaming : 4 hours (HD games cracked for HVGA screens i.e. Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Need for Speed, Shadowgun, Dead Space)  Although I doubt you could play that long due to the screen size and the cramps you may get from playing. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome anyone? Haha.
    -Internet Browsing : 6-8 hours
-Video Playback using Stock Player and YouTube App : 6-8 hours
-Video Playback using MX player : 4-6 hours (I use it for my .avi files)
    - I use Easy Battery Saver to Optimize battery performance.
In Super Mode it can last up to 24-36 hours with only texts and calls which I think is pretty impressive. I can go on 16 hour hospital shifts without worying about charging my phone.
In Normal Mode it can last 8-10 hours.
-It really depends on how you use your phone. I strongly believe it greatly varies with every user.
    - Don't believe posts that say it doesn't run as smooth as GB. IT RUNS AS SMOOTH AS GINGERBREAD. EVEN BETTER. =P
    - Sleeker new user interface.
    - All of my apps and games still run smoothly on ICS. I'll keep searching for bugs.
    - The ROBOTO font is awesome.
    - I find the interface more intuitive and streamlined than GB.
    - Lots of new features implemented. i.e. Smart Dialing, Face Unlock, Performance Assistant
    - Icons have been remodeled.
    - I also love how fluid it is now when it switches screen orientation. =D!!
    - No bugs for me whatsoever.
    - I miss the quirkiness of the GB user interface. Like the transparency of the messaging app. But I guess, I have to move on, change is for the better.
    - A SOLID AND STABLE UPGRADE. NOW MY XPERIA LIVE IS COMPLETE.
    Problems:
-Yes, the LED SMS notification doesn't work. But all other LEDs work. i.e. Yahoo Messenger, Incoming Calls, Twitter. I guess they may have overlooked this one. It's the only problem that I see. I find it livable still. Greater good for the greater number of people =P
-THANKS TO SONY!!! A huge step on the right direction.
    -KIMOZAVE - NOOBIE SMARTPHONE USER

hi kimozave, ur review seems to be full of praises for ICS, but I have gone through many threads on disadvantages of ICS, so very much confused if I should go with ICS update or not....
can you plz tell how was is experience on:
    1. Dial pad - I have read its laggy.
    2. The phone is having a hard time authenticating wifi connection when using WPA encryption.
    3. Thumbnails in the gallery does not match the original picture.
    4. Phone dies at 10% battery remaining.
    5. SIM card keeps ejecting
    6. Camera is more laggy and image quality is poorer
    Thanks,

    this my qeustion ?
the iphone could not restored because the firmware file is not compatible

Generally a sign that the iPhone has been hacked or modified
to work with other than the original wireless carrier or an attempt
was made to return to a version of iOS earlier than the version
    currently installed on the iPhone.
Google may provide some direction, but discussion of hacked

  • IPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found

Initial problem was no audio and skipping through songs at a rate of about 1 song per second.
Tried the 5 R's and that didn't help.
Installed iTunes 7 and then it wouldn't recognize the nano. Followed Apple's instructions when iPod not recognized, including uninstalling iTunes, uninstalling latent update installers, deleting the iTunes directory, clearing the recycle bin, deleting temp files, etc. Then reinstalled iTunes 7,
Plugged in my nano and Got the message, newer version of iPod software available, update software (version installed was 1.1.1 and newer version available was 1.2)? Clicked ok and that was the start of my troubles. That process failed and suggested that I restore to factory defaults (not exactly what I wanted to do, having to reload my songs, but went along).
Did a restore to factory settings and now get the message
The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.
Anyone got any ideas how to update the firmware? I'm hopeful that a file can be downloaded to do this rather than sending in the nano to have it updated.
    <opinion on>
After an hour of updating software and a couple of hours of reading the forums looking for the answer, my eyes hurt, it's 2:30am, and I'm frustrated to the point of throwing this in the trash.
My kids have a shuffle and a mini and I've updated software on both with no problems before. If I realized I would have to become a system admin for iPods, I would never have invested.

  • How do I restore original file naming on an import

Through a process of idiocy and confusion, I've ended up with TWO creation dates on my files, e.g. 20140112-20140112-Johnny at the beach.  I tried the step back, step back, step back system, or "undo, undo" but that didn't succeed.  I've tried creating a new catalogue to re-import the photos from iPhoto, but I've mislaid the File Renaming Panel that my Lightroom tutor's handout mentions as being on the right-hand side of the screen.  I can only see Histogram and Keyword list.
When I try and rename the files individually, I don't get an option to merely remove one of the 201401112 key strings, I get a series of checkboxes.
I know I've done wrong, but I want to undo it and not make it worse.  I'm scared that if I restore original settings, I'll delete all of my images - all 1400+ of them!
Anyone who can give a solution gets a lovely cake.

I suggest you stop Re-Naming your images on import and place them in folders by the date they were shot. Lightroom can do that for you on import from card or camera or you can do it yourself manually before you import them into LR. You could also put the Sub-folders by date in a top level folder by year or just in one folder named whatever you like.
Not sure why people Re-Name their images when copying them from the card/camera to their hard drive. To me that makes no sense at all. If I have images that I want to separate from others I will manually re-name them and or assign a keyword or rating to them. You can also have collections of images by subject, location, date or whatever you like and those collections can be from any folder imported into LR.
The only time I would even think about re-naming images on import, and or copying to my hard drive, is if I have 2 identical cameras. Which I have in the past. But even then I changed the file naming in the camera having one cameras files start with 1 and the other start with 2

  • Calling Sony Bravia HD TV owners with photoshop

    Hi.
Sony Bravia has a problem with Photoshop !
If a jpg is created in photoshop, 1920 x 1080 pixels,  72dpi, it wont play on a Sony Bravia TV via USB stick.
However it will play on a Panasonic HD TV and on a Samsung, so why is Bravia refusing them.
Furthermore it displays thumbnails ok, just wont play them full size !
If it is created in camera and loaded onto a PC then onto USB it will play on the Bravia.
Both were Adobe RGB colour space so it cant be that.
    Any idea why ?
Standard or Optimised or Progressive, they all fail !
Gaps in file name or length make no difference.
unless its file extension .JPG or .jpg or perhaps .jpeg or .JPEG
    I used CS2.
Basically anyone with a Sony Bravia and using Photoshop has a big problem here. Works ok on Samsung and Panasonic.
Means no ability to play my photos on a friends Bravia. Also means I wont be buying Sony !
I have seen mention of this by others on the internet. All shops tried so far exhibit this problem.
For those that experience this, whats happening ?
    Envirographics

    I recently purchased a 46" Bravia LED (model KDL-4EX620).
At work I had downloaded some really cool double screen wallpapers (2560x1024). All are jpg files, and I thought it would make a cool slide show with mellow music for my wife and I to enjoy while chatting over dinner and enjoying a glass of wine.
I was surprised when the TV showed some images, and with others I just got a black screen with the message of "Image cannot be displayed".
I looked up information on this, and found a couple of forums (all with recent replies) that mentioned the problem with newer Bravia TV's and they related it to manipulation in apps like Photoshop.
I used PS for a living, and I'm very familiar with JPEG format images, since I've been doing web desing since the mid 90's.
I'm very used to looking at JPEG as a standard, that should have no display problems, specially with recent technology!
I am aware though, that specially digital cameras, won't accept edited images to be displayed along with the originals on memory cards. Once edited, they will not show up on the camera's LCD.
I never really looked into this, and accepted it as a fact of life, so to speak.
But this issue with the TV really peaked my interest.
After chatting with SONY's support, I was pointed in the direction of a technical spec. listed on the TV model's details:
"- JPEG (JPEG format files with the extension “.jpg” and conforming to DCF 2.0 or Exif 2.21)"
And I'm not entirely sure about this, but it seems it's related to the aforementioned issue with edited images on a Camera.
Somebody here mentioned SRGB, vs Adobe's RGB.
I decided to make a test.
Using PS CS3, I ran ALL the images in the folder of the USB drive I had stuck into the TV for the slide show. The script is a standard script in the File menu of PS CS3: File/Scripts/Image Procesor...
Saving the images as JPEG, making sure I selected SRGB and maintaing ICC profile.
I re-saved all the images with this method, which in fact reduces file size (I guess it's not very lossless).
Presto, now NONE of the images display on the TV!!!
hehehehe, I guess it's a good thing, since it does relate PS as a culprit clashing with the DCF 2.0 or Exif 2.21 requirements the TV lists.
NOW... the question is, CAN I save from PS under that JPEG profile? Will I need a third party app? an additional plugin? any other apps you can think of?
There's a rather cheap option, but I'm not going to buy it just yet, until I find out that I can defenitely NOT use PS for this. I mean, c'mon, shouldn't a MUCH more expensive app be able to conform to standards fromt he 90's???
I know I can't change the TV's requirements, updating the firmware will not solve something that SONY doesn't consider a bug. It's a standard after all.

  • Sony iPod Dock Not Compatible with iOS 4

I play a 3GS through a Sony HD-radio with a dock on the top. Upgrading the 3GS to 4.0 resulted in a popup that says "this accessory is not compatible with iPhone." It was yesterday - now it isn't. Apple: Did you break accessory compatibility on purpose? If not, will you please fix?
Message was edited by: Four to the Side

I invested in a nice expensive Sony wireless speakers sound system with an iphone dock. Worked perfectly until the stupid 4.0 update came out, and now it brings out the same stupid error message all the time and I can't play any streaming media, on the sound system, which was the main reason I bought the originally compatible sound system. Great job apple !! They are trying to expand too fast, and now they are producing mediocre products ! I am really upset about this ! I just want to downgrade the **** software back to 3.1 and then never update it again :?

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Can I transfer 11 books on my original Sony Digital Reader to my PRST-1 Sony Reader?

Some of my books are in my newer PRST-1 Sony Reader but 11 are stuck in the older Sony Digital Reader and I want to move them into the newer one.
Can I transfer the 11 books that are on my original Sony Digital Reader to my newer Sony PRST-1 Reader so that all of my purchased books are in there?
If so, do I need Digital Editions? Or should I use the Sony software?
I cannot recall the Adobe ID associated with my Sony Reader account and lost any information in my old computer for tracking that down. Perhaps there is a way to find that info in the Sony Reader itself.
    Please advise.

At least, it shows that Sony has not let their customers and older products down, contrary to what is said by some angry and impatient customers. Yes, software development takes time, and Sony may have been a little fast to release its ICS for every phones. But this news proves that Sony is looking into every possibility to improve its users experience.
I heartily hope that my neo v will get Jelly Bean and its new functions, with improved performances compared to ICS. So thank you Sony for considering it.
