Restore OS X Server 10.6 from CCC Folder Backup

Hi there!
I own two Mac Mini (same model)
Mac Mini No1 was used as a server (OS X 10.6 Server). Mac Mini No2 as cover.
I've got a Carbon Copy Cloner backup of the System HD.
Unfortunately it is not a real discdump. The backup is a copy of the server hd, stored in a folder on a extern RAID called "Systembackup".
(Making a real disk dump would have been the better solution …)
Now the origin server broke down (no way to use any part of it) and i wanted to recover it on my second Mac Mini.
I was trying to rsync -av "backupfolderpath" "new-freshformatted-server-hd".
Unfortunately the server doesn't start.
Is there any way to restore the osx server from this backup-folder?

Much more to do than just rsync.
You used CCC to create the backup?
Then use CCC to restore the backup to a drive.
Choose the folder as a source and a drive as the destination.
CCC supports this. Here's a note from the app on the topic of backup up to a folder.
You restore the contents of the backup folder to the root of another volume in the future, and that volume would be bootable. If your goal is to create a backup that you can boot from right now, you should back up directly to the root of this volume or to the root of another HFS+ formatted volume.

  • Please help me to restore OS X Server 4.0 from TimeMachine

    Hi,
I had restored Yosemite with server 4.0 from TimeMachine.
However the Server.app is not working well.
It alerts error in the first login process, and the all of setting was empty. Plus I could not turn on the services.
Also there was not the /var/db/.ServerSetupDone file.
So I tried to uninstall the Server 4 as following:
    Uninstall OS X Server 4
but, after moving the Server application to the Trash,
    - /.ServerBackups
    - /Library/Preferences/com.apple.servermgrd.plist
    - /Library/Server
the above directories and files are not deleted clearly, showing this error 'Operation not permitted'. (Of course, with root account)
How can I recovery my server...???.....

It seems that the boot volume is either locked or mounted read-only. How did you restore?

  • Restoration of /var/log/secure.log from Time Machine Backup

I have a need to restore /var/log/secure.log from Time Machine Backup on Lion Server, but can not find any entries for this file in the Time Machine archives even when using the find command.   It seems like it is not backed up.   I'm hoping that this is not the case; if it is it represents a pretty large mistake from a security perspective.
Is there something that I'm missing?
    Thanks

Try time machine and see what happens...  I dare ya!
I've helped several folks here who were using TM on Snow Leopard Server quite successfully.  In most cases, as in most cases of trouble with backups on client Macs, they were having hardware problems.
Granted this is a 10.6 server page, but they haven't updated open LDAP in a way that would change it's database functionality, nor have they changed the way time machine backs up and what it backs up.
Nowhere there does Apple say that "Time Machine is NOT a suitable backup solution for a server" or anything like that.
The article clarifies what it does, and does not, back up.   So it may or may not be a suitable backup solution depending on individual situations.

  • Why cant I restore a new installation of iTunes from  an iCloud backup to my iPad

I recently had a virus and had to reinstall a new copy of Windows, in doing this I also had to reinstall iTunes, I always thought the idea of iCloud was that if you ended up with the situation that I was in then you could restore your equipment to the state of the last backup that you did, I have looked everywhere for a link that would allow me to obtain my last backup and there isn't one available this obviously tells me that the Apple iCloud qppearsto be a total waste of time and effort, I have also just downloaded and installed a fresh copy of iCloud manager logged in with my original iTunes ID and clicked on Sync nothing absolutely nothing came back from iCloud so perhaps someone out there can either tell me if I am doing something wrong, or is iCloud the waste of time I think it is.

    Using iPad with iOS 6.2

So why were the files moved this way?
Simply copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  Then launch iTunes and everything will be there.

  • Restore iPhoto (9.5.1) Library from old TimeMachine Backup

    Hello.
I recently did a clean install of Mavericks as my iMac was sluggish to say the least.
I made sure to backup my important files and had a current TimeMachine backup. However, when I did the clean install I renamed the Mac and changed the owner from my wife to me, and now cannot restore from TimeMachine.
I have restored most of my files manually, no big problem, but I cannot restore the iPhoto Library. TimeMachine does not recognise the date of the backup I need, from 5th March 2014. When I launch iPhoto I get the following:
"The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
Is there a way of restoring from the old backup? Or do I need to create a new Library, then manually drag and drop photos from TimeMachine iPhoto Library/Masters directory?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks very much.
    Stephen

That does not involve iPhoto. It is. timeMachine issue. Ask in the forum for your OS

  • I would like to restore certain things such as pictures from my oldest backup, but I do not know how to do this.

Well, I put my whole question into the title. I have one old backup that is about 3.5g and I would like to restore just some on its content and then delete the rest to free up storage. I am a new user of icloud and find it difficult to access my content that is backed up.
If I restore all 3.5g backup to my iphone won't it create duplicates, restore old settings and configurations, and use up a lot of space. I really don't want any settings or config. to change or revert back to the old back up. I would like to restore photos, notes, voice memos, and videos I created with my iphone camera.

I wished I had known this before I said yes to using icloud. I guess those things will be lost and gone forever, since I do not want to lose my present settings and data. Also do not want to go through the hassle of backing up present, then resetting phone, then restoring oldest back up, then backing up oldest backup to pc, so I can safely backup selected items to my pc; then reset my phone again to restore latest back up. It would take way too much time and no guarantee.
I backed up my phone to my pc, but have not checked it yet, so don't know if it worked.
If I decide to quit using icloud (which will probably happen since backing up to external hard drive allows me to open backups) what will happen to my present data and settings? Will they just remain as they were without icloud, as they were before icloud? I'm scared to just delete it; not knowing what will happen. Also why is icloud now my outgoing mail server, when my web email was before I installed icloud and how do I restore my web email as my outgoing mail server. I am using yahoo/at&t for all my mail.
What will happen to my contacts, notes, messages, voice memos, calendar info, alerts, etc., on my phone if I delete icloud?

  • Restore files to external hard drive from Mac's Backup program?

    Can anyone help me here?:
I'm trying to restore individual files that I backed up using Mac's backup program. I've selected the files I want to restore, but it wants to restore to my internal drive and overwrite the newer corresponding files.
I want to restore to my external drive and manage my backups without this program at all. I can't access any of the files I backed up with this program and it's taking up a huge chunk of one of my external drives.
Very frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Josh

If you have newer versions on your internal drive, then why do you want to restore older ones in the first place? If you want to backup the newer files to the external drive, then you need to configure Backup to use the internal drive as the Source and the external drive as the Destination. I think you must have it in reverse - restoring from the backup (the external drive) to the source (the internal drive.)

  • Restoring OS X Server from a Time Machine backup

On this below article on Apple support says:
Important: When restoring, restore from a local Time Machine backup. If you try to restore from a network-based Time Machine backup, not all settings will be restored correctly
Is it means that if i were using Time Capsule it will not be restored correctly??
'All settings' mentioned above is it settings for the OS X or settings in Server App?
    Full article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5139
    Please enlight me

Is it means that if i were using Time Capsule it will not be restored correctly?
Yes, that's what it means. In my experience, Setup Assistant doesn't properly restore all server data even from a local backup, though perhaps it works for some. You should have at least one mirror (clone) backup of the server as well as Time Machine backups.

  • Can I restore from Time Machine backup after replacing hard drive

I'm planning on replacing the 250GB hard drive in my mid 2010 13 inch MBP with a larger one. My MBP comes with Snow Leopard, and I've installed Lion and recently Mountain Lion from App Store. Can I use my Snow Leopard disc to boot up the laptop after replacing the hard drive, and restore Mountain Lion and everything else from the latest backup in Time Machine without having to install Snow Leopard?

Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and restore your backup. You shouldn't use 10.6 to restore the Mountain Lion backup

  • Restoring a SQL Server 2005 DB to a SQL Server 2014 install, is there any way to prevent it from being upgraded

Does anyone know if there is a flag I can use to prevent a SQL Server 2005 database from being upgraded to SQL 2014 when it is restored to a 2014 instance?
Don't ask why, I just need to know if this is possible or if 2005/8 DB's are required to be upgraded if they are going to run on SQL 2012/2014 instances. The documentation seems to say this is so, I just want to verify that.

First: You cannot directly restore a 2005 database to
2014. MS supports migration over 3 SQL Server version steps; means you can restore 2005 to 2008/2008R2/2012, but not to 2014. You have to do a migration step between.
Olaf I was looking for this today, because I'm working with a new customer that have SQL 2005 and I have SQL 2014. And needed to restore a backup form the production server in my test server.
When I read what you write I think, oh no!! I have to install SQL 2012 in my server. But that it's not an option for me, and I say let me try to restore the DB first in 2014 and if not work install 2012.
You can restore a 2005 database to 2014 directly, and it works.
For reference the version number in the servers 2005 (9.0.4035 SP3) and 2014 (12.0.2000 RTM)
This is not related in any way to the original question that you answered (the file format will be upgraded to the new motor, that is sure).
I put this lines because in the future there will be some people searching about if possible to restore a 2005 DB to 2014, and like me will read your lines and think it's not possible and that can make a decision to buy 2012 and not 2014 to that new server they
    will migrate.

  • Restore Lion Server Postgres database only from Time Machine Backup

I just transferred our server from one box to another, and in the process, seem to have dumped our Postgres Caldav database, but not to a file, so it's gone.  I know have no calendars and no way to access them.  I do have a recent Time Machine backup of the server, but am not sure how to get my calendar data back so I can properly export it.  Honestly, I'm not that sure how to properly export it either once I have it back.  I'm afraid the previous postgres dump command I use will just do the same thing.  Anyone have experience in the matter?  Thanks!

I was helping you out with this in a thread last week: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3890595
In that thread I pointed you to Charle Edge's blog at Krypted where he goes into detail how to backup and restore your iCal database. I also told you this in my instructions:
These instructions assume that you have a backup of your caldav database sitting on your desktop, and it's called 'caldav.sql'.
So you we're supposed to make a backup of your database as the first thing that you do. dropdb wipes out your database completely, it doesn't restore it. You were supposed to make a backup of it first (instructions for this were at the link I gave you to Krypted).
Did you make a full backup of your server before you ran this command?

    Hi Imran,
In you have a full backup, using this existing backup further you can take incremental backups. The incremental backup is based on the previous full backup. The full and incremental backups is controlled by RMAN (Recovery manager).
You can take a full backup and restore the same in your new server and later take an incremental backup from your old server and restore it to the new server for all the delta changes made. By this you can make sure that your production data is made consistent in the new server.
If you have sufficient dowtime then, you can take a whole DB backup with redo log files and restore them in your new server.
There is no difference between whole backup and full backup, with respect to the database data.

check the OraBrcopy tool in this note. It might help you.
