Restore Pavilion g6 without recovery discs?

The hard drive in our Pavilion g6 (1b67cl) failed. It won't boot...it won't do much of anything. I bought a new hard drive, but we cannot find the recovery discs. Is it possible to restore the laptop to the factory settings (including Windows 7 Home Edition) without the recovery discs?

Hi:
You can't restore the PC to factory settings without the recovery disks as there is no recovery partition on the new hard drive.
If you can read the 25 character W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook you can make a plain windows 7 installation media as follows...
Download the applicable version of W7 that came with your notebook. For example, windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Use the 25 character W7 Pro product key you have.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • HP Pavilion Dv6 7078CA Recovery without recovery disc

Hello!! i have an Hp Pavilion Dv6 - 7078ca, and after just 6 months of use, the Hard Drive just died.
because i live in Brazil, and brought the Computer back home, i couldnt use the warrant, since the warrant is for canada only.
so i changed by my own the HDD for one on the exact same model that it had, but for my surprise, when i used the recovery media that i had made, the DVDs were corrupted, so i coudnt recover it using the recovery media.
I tried to install the windows 7 home premium (the same that came with the notebook), but there was some hardware incompatibility, so i couldnt install the drivers of it.
and the worst problem is: i cant even order other recovery media, because even if i ask them to deliver in some friends house in Canada, so this friend ships for me, HP canadian website dont accept international credit card.
so, my question is, anyone know if i am able to restore my computer without this recovery medias? if yes, how can i do that?
    thanks!!

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion dv6-7078ca Entertainment Notebook Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed at the factory. Here is the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your computer.
You can use the information in this HP forum thread entitled "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download, create the media, and install Windows 7 Home Premium using the Windows product key on bottom of your computer. Please note that this will not restore any of the HP "value-added" that originally come installed on your computer.
If you have any issues installing Windows, please post back. If, after Window is installed, you have missing and/or unknown device listed in the Windows Device Manager... please provide the "Hardware Ids" of the devices.
    Please send KUDOS

    Hi:
    Yes you can.
Here are the instructions and you should be all set.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

  • Windows 8.1 recovery without recovery disc or product key

    Hey!
I own a HP g6-2207sg. After windows 8.1 upgrade and a new set of AMD drivers windows is not starting anymore.
Not in safe mode, not with different starting settings. Recovery points are not working, from 3 restore points (2 automatic 1 critical update (win8.1)) none is working.
I can neither refresh nor reset windows, nor can windows repair the startup (it fails as well).
I dont have my win8 product key, as it is not in or on the g6 and i never read it out when the laptop was still working.
I tried reading it out with the help of several 3rd party tools through command prompt, started from a usb stick, which is not working as there are windows functions missing.
I cant download a fresh .iso of win 8 from windows itself as i dont have the key.
Please help, i dont know what to do anymore and i need my computer for work.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The Windows 8 Image source does have a download limit in place, but it will usually work if you keep trying for a couple of hours.  The key will be automatically read from the bios during installation.
I'm not aware of any way you can decipher the encrypted key via the command shell - only from reading its entry from the registry.
Unfortunayely, as with previous operating systems, neither Microsoft or HP will have any record of this key.
Another option would be to order a replacement set of Recovery Discs starting on the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • Can a T60 be reset to factory spec without recovery discs?

Is it possible to reset a T60 to out of box spec without a recovery disc? My niece let her boyfriend do something and it is gone.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!
It depends on whether the recovery partition on the hard drive is still intact.
Pressing F11 on boot should trigger the Rescue and Recovery process, which - if succesfull - will also delete ALL the data from your hard drive.
    Good luck.

  • Cant restore from rescue and recovery discs

    Hi Guys
I bought a set of Windows 7 64bit Lenovo Rescue and Recovery Discs approx. 18 months ago so I could "restore" my X201 if and when the hard disk died, well the day has come and the discs dont work !!!
I have attempted to "restore" to the new hard disk 3 times and this is now starting to become a joke.
I boot the 1st disk, then I'm asked to insert the 2nd and then 3rd disks, I dont have a 4th disk but the process asks me for one. I believe that this is all working as it takes a number of hours and the drive lights is flickering except when I'm being asked to insert the next disc.
After the final re-boot. following the "Setting up drivers - 100%" on the screen I get a message box that says "Setup cant configure windows for your configuration", this is after I have had the "Starting Windows 7" booting on the screen.
    Has anyone had any experience with Win 7 64bit R & R discs for a X201 ???
    TIA
    NG

I assume your issue is laptop boot mode related.
In order to restore from Lenovo Recovery discs set laptop should be in legacy boot mode. Check out this option in BIOS setup. Unfortunately you'll can't change boot mode later. But this mode just speeds up a boot process only 2-3 secs.
Boot and installation processes don't inform the customer about error boot mode related.
Check out the 1st disc. If it consists a folder like BOOT and files like BOOTMGR and WINRE.WIM (all of them are for boot process) and folder like FACTORYRECOVERY - it's OK and your 1st data disk is bootable too.
If you had partition like Lenovo_Recovery (Q: usually) on your x201 with factory images you could make Factory_Recovery Discs set yourself w/o purchasing it from Lenovo.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 1444ee Recovery Disc Issue

    Hi,
I created three recovery discs soon after I purchased my laptop..The Recovery Disc #1 was inside the optical disc tray while I was resolving some issues on a Linux distro called Backtrack5..Playing around with linux' bootloader and when I tried booting from the Optical drive (i-e Recovery Disc labelled #1) the PC did not recognise it at all..Somehow I managed to run the existing installation of Windows7 (the original one that came with my laptop) and inside Computer it shows that my Optical drive has no filesystem and occupies 0 bytes..But in "Create and format partitions" the optical drive shows to have a RAW filesystem..
The question is: Is there any way to get back the Recovery Disc #1?? If not,any other measure that I could take now so that in the future I can reinstall my factory shipped OS..
    Thanks

    Hi,
You may have to ask for the whole set, borrowing just ONE may not work because the environment could be difference after you logon to the machine for the first time.

  • HP Pavilion G6-2320TX - Recovery Disc

    Hi Experts,
I own aforementioned laptop which came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I haven't yet created recovery disks. It also has pre-installed 'norton internet security' trial. Couple of questions below:
Do I have to create recovery discs before installing/uninstalling any new/existing softwares?
Norton now asks me for activation (paid) and I am planning to uninstall it. Will it cause any issues if I try to recover using recovery discs at later stage? This question comes because wiki says 'A recovery disc is a general term for media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a favored condition of a computer as configured by an original equipment manufacturer or an end-user.'

  • Restore a Mac without the disc

Is there anyway I can restore a mac to an early date just like windows without using a disc and how do I get to the info screen while the Mac is starting up?

    Hi, pcforce.
Is there anyway I can restore a mac to an early date just like windows without using a disc...
No, unless you have a clone of the Mac's drive that was made at that "early date". If you do, simply clone the clone back onto the internal hard drive.
...and how do I get to the info screen while the Mac is starting up?
What "info screen"? Which info are you looking for?

The logic of computer manufacturers' escapes me. The recovery console has the option of making back-up discs -- this is convenient for the user. It doesn't work properly for no apparent reason -- this is an inconvenience. And only one set can be made. Aren't these things supposed to be thoroughly tested before the products ship?

  • Pavilion DV6 3300se Recovery Disc

i wan to download all recovery files

HP does not provide Recovery file downloads.  If the PC still has the original OS install, all of the necessary files for recovery are in the Recovery partition, typically D: on the hard drive.  If the hard drive has been replaced with a new/different drive, then the Recovery set is needed to reinstall like "Factory Fresh".  If you did not make the Recovery set on the PC when it was new and there is no chance of doing it now, then order a set from HP.  See HERE.

  • Bootmgr missing after recovery discs

    Hello,
So I have recently had to factory reset my laptop which wiped everything clean including losing a restore point. I purchased the 3 recovery discs from HP 2 x Win 7 recovery media DVD's (Part 1 and 2) and the application and driver recovery DVD.
When going through the restore process the 2 recovery discs were absolutely fine whether the app and driver DVD was ejected after 5 seconds saying the computer didn't need it and it would be recovered from the hardrive. When I press finish and it restarts itself the screen goes black and comes up with a message saying "BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart".
The order of the boot menu is the internal CD/DVD ROM first then the hardrive which I worked out in the BIOS menu.
Not sure what to do next especially as it doesn't want to accept the app and driver dvd. And have tested the HDD and Memory both passed no problem. I have tried removing the HDD and rehousing it then retesting it but made no difference to result.
    Help!

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers and information!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that when you tried to do a recovery from the disks supplied by HP after the first two it informed you that the remaining two were not required and would be recovered from the hard drive.  The boot order is set to optical drive first and hard drive second.  When you tried to boot to the hard drive you received the error ""BOOTMGR MISSING CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart.  You have tested the hard drive and memory and no issues were found
Try changing the boot order to hard drive first
Restore the defaults from the bios screen. This will allow it to scan for the attached hard ware.
If the issue remains, I would try a full recovery one more time and if the issue remains contact HP support for further assistance.
