RESTORE PHOTO BOOTH LIBRARY

Our hard drive recently crashed.  Luckily, the files were backed up.
When my daughter recently opened Photo Booth, it told her it could not locate the library.
If I choose "Choose Existing," it takes me to a few different photo libraries, including one called "Photo Booth Library."  In that file are all of the Photo Booth pictures from 6-7 years.  But for some reason it won't let me select them.  I know they're physically there.
Is there some other file that it wants me to link to?  Is there something else I can do?
(Originally posted this over in the iPhoto section but moved it here after being scolded and told this was where it belonged...)

  • When a new hard drive was installed in my imac, photobooth asked me to choose my existing photo booth library or create a new one. My existing one is there, but I can't select it.

My hard drive recently had to be replaced, and I just got my computer back with successful data recovery. When I opened Photo Booth, I was prompted with the following: 'Photo Booth could not locate your photo library. Please choose an existing library, or create a new one in order to continue using Photo Booth. This photo library will be used the next time you open Photo Booth.'
I navigated to my regular photo booth library in my hard drive, but it wouldn't allow me to select it. I then tried opening and updating iPhoto including upgrading my library. I imported my old Photo Booth Library as well. Everything works! I should be allowed to use the same folder as before, instead of creating a "Photo Booth Library #2" or something. Any Ideas?

    Repair permissions ...
Launch Disk Utility located in your Applications / Utilities folder
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click:  Repair Disk Permissions
This can take a few minutes so don't be alarmed.
Restart your Mac when it's finished then try PhotoBooth.

  • After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media - Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media ->Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo booth library broke my image links!

originally i had snow leopard when i started using omnifocus to work on a project. i often took pictures of concept drawings using photobooth and then linked them to the omnifocus document where they applied.
now that i've updated to lion, photo booth has tied all those images up into a library instead of the regular folder, which has broken all my links. i know i could just open the show the library package's contents and copy out the images, but we're talking abour relinking a few hundred images by hand. pain in the donkey.
anybody have any ideas how to fix this? i guess apple didn't think about that potential issue, huh?

I did not have the problem that you describe when upgrading my Macs, but here is what I would do if I did:
Quit all apps and restart Mac.  Then open your Home Finder > Pictures folder, and double click on the Photo Booth Library item.  Photo Booth should launch and automatically use the images in your Photo Booth Library.   You can test that by quitting Photo Booth and re-launching the app to be sure it still connects to your proper library.
If the above does not work, I suggest you use OS X Recovery to reinstall OS X Mavericks.  Launch Photo Booth to see if the problem is resolved.
If nothing suggested here works, perhaps you can get help from some of the topics in this search.
BTW, your posted OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) system info is out of date if you have applied the current Mavericks 10.9.2. version  You can update your system info in seafaring's Products when you are logged into Apple Discussions.

  • When I click on Photo Booth library it opens up the application instead of accessing my photo library

I can only access my photo library by revealing the Photo Booth photos in the finder. When I click on Photo Booth library in the finder it opens up the application Photo Booth instead of my actual library.  It is possible that I deleted something last night I can't be sure. When I access the library by revealing in finder,  I checked the path it gives me and it seems correct  hd/user/pictures/photoboothlibrary/pictures.  Can I fix this so that I can access my Photo Booth library directly through the finder?

  • Photo booth library mixed

    Hi,
while browsing through deleted accounts on my macbook pro, I switched photo booth library with one of the deleted accounts' now I cannot set it back to admin's photo booth library. Every time I try to take a picture this is the message i get "Photo Booth encountered an error while trying to save your photos. Your photos cannot be saved at this time."
    Help

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • IPhoto: Restore photos to Library (help!) It's not working...

I have tried, unsuccessfully, several times to restore photos from my iPhoto Trash to the Library.  I select the photos I want to restore, click on Restore to Library, and wait.  The program invariably freezes, causing me to Force Quit.  I need to restore these photos so I can empty the trash!  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!  I am using iPhoto '09.

Well you won't be syncing the two libraries as you don't want the same content in both, but only to update the one on the external, right? Otherwise you don't save any space...
Here's one way to do it:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
Library Manager means you can move additions on the internal, plus all metadata, version history and so on, to the main library.
Another thing to remember: now you have all your photos on this external, where's your back up? You'll need another copy of the Library on another disk...

  • Lost photo booth library

    hello everybody
i had a little problem when going from tiger to leopard...
i made all my back-ups, but here is what happened with photo booth:
the files are on the right folder, all my 160 photos, but photo booth won't recognize them!
i tried to find something related to this, but found nothing
    hope you can help me!
    thanks a lot

-When the iLife install has completed select software update before importing.
-When iPhoto asks if you want it to open when a camera is detected select "decide later"
-Use iPhoto's import to library function from the file menu to add the folder, do not drop any pictures directly into iPhoto.
-Hold the command key when you click the folder for import.

  • Restoring Photo Booth

My son managed to delete Photo Booth off of our iMac (bought Dec 2010).  I tried to find backup copy on the iMac OS X Install DVD or the iMac Applications Install DVD but it didn't seem to be an option to restore.
From what I could tell online Photo Booth should be on the Mac OS X Install DVD and I ran the "Optional Installs" package installer but it was not an available "Application" from the list of applications.
    Have I missed a step?

Photo Booth isn't an optional install, it's part of the base OS.  Use something like Pacifist to get it off of Disc #1, or just reinstall the OS.
Why does your son have an administrative account on this machine?

  • Photo booth - restore accidentally deleted photos

i somehow accidentally deleted all of my photo booth photos. i attempted to restore them using suggestions on forums but nothing worked. i eventually thought i found some solution when i right clicked on 'photo booth library' in my pictures folder and opened 'show package contents' i then dragged all of my photos that i'd recovered from the trash into the 'pictures' folder where photos i had just now taken on photo booth were - opened photo booth and my old photos still weren't there.
can anyone help me with this issue?

Did you use Sherlock to search?
Did you check your Applications folder?
If yes to the above then you can custom install Photo Booth from DVD #1 that originally came w/your computer. Photo Booth should be inside the *Bundled Software* folder. If not there, check the Applications folder.
If you still cannot locate PB on the DVD you will need to use Pacifist
    Pacifist Usage Instructions

  • Moving iPhoto, Photo Booth, & iMovie library to an external drive

I've search through most of the support community and still havent found a concrete answer. Like most my current internal harddrive is about full. Mostly filled with photos and movies. I have a external harddrive that Time Machine is enabled. I also backed u my iphoto & photo booth library to the external drive. I have yet to move over any imovie data until I am sure that process will work.
How do I move all data over so that iphoto, photo booth, & imovie can be ran fom my external harddrive. Also how can I ensure that imovie will direct itself to the iphoto library on my external because all movies from the past use the iphoto library as its directory. Once this is done I would like to delete all previous data off of my nternal drive
    Thank you

. I have a external harddrive that Time Machine is enabled. I also backed u my iphoto & photo booth library to the external drive. I have yet to move over any imovie data until I am sure that process will work.
Do you want to store your movies and photos on your Time Machine drive? That is not recommended, since you will not have a backup, if the media are only on your backup volume. You will need a second drive in addition to your backup drive, and this drive needs to be formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled), otherwise you cannot store photo libraries (iPhoto, Aperture) or iMovie events on that drive, see:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture (remember, thta formatting erases a drive, you have to save any contents to another drive before formatting).
For iPhoto:  Once your external drive has the correct file system, simply select your iPhoto library in the Finder and drag it to that drive. Then double click the copied library to open it in iPhoto.
For iMovie: To move your iMovie events to an external drive, use the event browser in iMovie - don't use the Finder!
See this Help page:  Copy or move video from your Event Library to an external ... http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2302
I don't use Photo Booth, so I do not know how to move your Photo Booth photos.

  • How to merge the contents of two Photo Booths?

Hello.  We have two Macbooks (Old + Existing).  Both are/were updated to Maverick.  However, I have restored the Old Macbook back to original (Snow Leopard) in order to sell.  I manually took off files as well as doing a Time Machine backup.
I would like to add all the photos and videos from Photo Booth on the Old Macbook into my Existing Macbook.
Is this possible either a. through a specific file in Time Machine (I do NOT wish to replace the Existing with the Old.  This is a merger.) or b. with the Photo Booth library I copied onto an external harddrive?  However, this is one 1.75gb file with the Photo Booth icon (a film strip) rather than separate photo files.  I am unsure how to access individual photographs or videos.  I was hesitant to open it up in case it negatively affected the Existing Photo Booth.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Great, I just lost 10 GB of data thanks to OSX folder merge... because appaerantly I should have known better not to keep a subfolder inside my folder I was trying to merge
I can not beleive more people don't have a problem with this. Merge contents in Lion does NOT merge contents if 1 or more of those supposed "contents" is a subfolder
Merge contents of two folders only works for files, it does NOT work for subfolders!!!!
Can we please get this acknowledged as a bug that needs fixing?
    EXAMPLE:
    Drive1 / Folder1
                   - text1.txt
                   - text2.txt
                   - / subfolder / text3.text
    MERGE TO
    Drive2 / Folder1
                   - text1.txt  (this gets updated / merged)
                   - text2.txt  (this gets updated / merged)
                   - / subfolder /
                             - text.txt
                             - text2.txt     (this should get text3.txt merged into it, from Drive1, but instead this subfolder is REPLACED, and NOT MERGED!!)
Why would i want to replace a folder if I'm trying to merge it!?
Almost 2013 and OSX still cant merge a folder? unbelievable

  • Photo booth taking up too much space

I am not sure if I am putting this question in the right forum... I recently had an error saying my startup disk is almost full.  I started investigating what is taking up so much space.  I have a 500GB hard drive and only had about 3 gb free space.  I started deleting some items and after lots of work I now am at 14.49GB free space.  woo hoo!  Well I see my photo booth library is taking up 278GB of space.  Why so much?  I opened the app and deleted almost all the pictures and videos in there, but it barely made a dent in how much space the program is using.  Is it supposed to take up so much space?  How can I clear it out?

There may be a way to have the library of PhotoBooth be saved and accessed to/from an externally enclosed hard disk drive, so it would (maybe) not be saving to the computer's HDD. I know it is possible to have an external drive harbor the iPhoto and iTunes libraries, so the internal computer drive is more lean.
A question remains... Do you have a separate user account for the kids so they don't have a way or reason to be mucking about in the Admin user account? And does the computer start up in a way where one has to log in before anyone can do anything? This would likely help keep some of the wondering where things are, to a minimum; or at least you can backup your admin account and secure content so if something happens, you can recover important stuff.
With a different user accounts, you can also limit what kinds of applications and services are accessed. {Also with kids online, if you had questions about what they were doing, especially where text and message content on social sites, you could even put a key-logger utility on their account.} There are various levels of user account for a reason, and things one can do for more watchfulness than just parental controls.
I can see why kids would have a fun time with photobooth and the things it can do with peoples faces, etc. When I was a kid, I grew up with a real photo darkroom and bulk film, so I was shooting 35mm and reloading the film cans, developing and printing, hands in chemicals. We also had reloading supplies for the guns. A different world, so was the range of hands-on learning experience.
You should buy a printed manual for the operating system, a Missing Manuals (for the OS X you have.) They're fairly good. I've had a few, mostly for older systems where I got a great deal for mere coins a few years after the newer systems were released, in secondhand stores. And included a few with Macs I'd restored and upgraded, when donated.
    Anyway, life is an adventure...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why can't I see video thumbnails in Photo Booth anymore?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks on my 13" Mackbook Pro Retina and it seems when I open the Photo Booth application, it only shows me thumbs of the photos, not videos now. It does say that I have 27 videos, but they're not viewable/accessible so I don't know how to get to them.
Anyone else have this issue or know how I can get the thumbnails back?

Called Apple, they had me restore the Photo Booth Library file from my Time Machine, worked great, only lost 2 photos that I had taken since my most recent back up.

  • Photo Booth Pictures File Location?

Upgraded to Mavericks and I can't find any of the picture files from Photo Booth. Previously they were in User/Pictures/PhotoBooth
But now that folder is empty.
If I open up "Photo Booth Library" I can see the pictures within photobooth. But not the file location. Also, some of my photos

If you'd like to be able to access the photos in any way other than just in FINDER, ie: to upload them on webforms, and other apps, then you can do this
    open Terminal
    type:
    cd Pictures
    ln -s Photo\ Booth\ Library/Pictures/ PhotoBoothPics
this will create a folder called PhotoBoothPics  that is a link to the photobooth library, and is accessible to attach to email, etc, and will always have all your pics
