Restore photos from iPhoto without Time Machine

I was having trouble opening iPhoto so I deleted the application and reinstalled it on my Macbook Pro.  Stupidly I was of the impression that all of the photos I had uploaded to iphoto were also being uploaded simutaneously in my pictures file.  I lost about 5,000 photos.  I don't have Time Machine.  Is there any other way to restore deleted photos on my Mac?

The photos are not in the application but are in the iPhoto Library package which is located in your Pictures folder.
Once you get the iPhoto application reinstalled apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do I get photos from iPhoto via Time Machine?

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and am unable to find my photos through Time Machine.  I tried following the previous discussions on how to do this but I did not find a Master's folder when searching on package contents after right clicking on iPhoto in Time Machine.
I accidentally deleted some photos in iPhoto the other night and was hoping that I could easily retreieve them from my Time Machine Back-ups but this is not the case.  Where the heck are the iPhotos photos stored?  I have a MacBookPro running version 10.8.5.
Thanks in advance for your help-
    Sheri

    Thanks, LN
I only need to retrieve a few photos...not the entire library.  Where is the master's folder located, specifically?  I was unable to find it and I looked very thoroughly through all of the folders.

  • How do I restore only a few photos from iphoto using time machine?

I have about 100 photos that have become corrupt and I need to restore from time machine.  When I try to restore the iphoto library, it says it cannot restore because library is too big.  How can I get back only the few photos that are corrupt?
    Thanks!
    Dorothy

Please expain what you mean by 100 photos becoming corrupt? That is extremely unlikely - it is much more likely that you have a corrupted library
Probably rebuilding your iPhoto library is the solution but with no information about what you have or what is going on that is only a wild guess
For iPhoto '11 Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database and see if that resolves things

  • I'm trying a full restore in Lion, but it won't. States that there isn't enough space on the Mac HD. How do I restore everything from a recent Time Machine Backup?

I'm trying a full restore in Lion, but it won't. States that there isn't enough space on the Mac HD. How do I restore everything from a recent Time Machine Backup?

Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

Please forgive and send me a link if someone has already answered this but I need to restore files from an old Time Machine Volume to my current desktop.
    How do I do this?

control-click on TM in the dock and choose "browse other TM disks". choose your old TM backup to browse and restore what you need. also, you can always open your TM drive in finder and copy what you need directly via finder.

If the images are in the location you want them be sure to select "Add" at the top of the import dialog box.

  • I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

    Please do not do this.
The Time Capsule was designed for your backups.....not as an everyday hard drive. Access to the Time Capsule is slow.
If there is any loss of connection between iPhoto and the iPhoto library when you are reading or writing, the entire iPhoto library is easily corrupted.
The chances of corruption are even more likely if you are using wireless on the computer.
And....even if you decide to risk this....if you move your "original" iPhoto library to the Time Capsule.....how will you make backups of the library?
The only copy of the library will be on the Time Capsule....you have no backups.....when, not if, the Time Capsule has a problem.
Simply stated, I would never do this with any important data that you cannot afford to lose. Please post in the iPhoto support area if you need to confirm this.

  • How do I delete photos from iPhoto without deleting them from my hard drive

I've imported a bunch of photos from my hard drive.
I would now like to delete some of these photos from iPhoto but would still like to keep them on my hard drive in case I need to access them in future.
However, when I delete a photo from iPhoto and move it to the Trash, once Trash is emptied it deletes the original from the hard disc as well.
How do I get around this?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Thanks guys.
Can I hide an entire Event?
I used to use Picasa on a PC. When you make any changes in Picasa (even rotating a picture) it creates a copy. Any photos you have altered get named 'Originals' so when you import into iPhoto you end up with hundreds of Events called Originals with near duplicate photos.
So probably a third of my images (around 1500) are near dupes which I want out of the application but want to keep secure on my hard drive...
The pitfalls of switching to iPhoto from Picasa I guess (that said, iPhoto looks great)...

  • How do i delete photos from iPhoto without deleting them permanently from my macbook pro?

I'm sorry but i'm new to all this. When i move photos from iphoto to the trash will that also delete that particular photo from my macbook pro storage entirely?

To remove a photo from iPhoto and your Mac:
Put it in the iPhoto Trash, then enpty it. Then empty the system trash as well
If you want to remove a photo from iPhoto but keep it on your Mac:
First Export the file from iPhoto (File -> Export) to whereever you want it and then go through the steps above.
Confusion arises as the notion that you would want to remove a pic from iPhoto but keep it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's like saying I want to remove one address from Address Book, but still keep it on my Mac. The point of iPhoto and such apps is that they are used to manage your photos. Anything that you need to do with the pics cn be done either with or via iPhoto.

  • New iPhoto not loading photos from CD or time machine

Our hard drive recently failed and we got it replaced.  When they replaced our HD, they upgraded us to Mac OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 9.1.5.  We hooked time machine up to restore our old photos and they initially showed up on iPhoto, then most disappeared (thumbnails are now black.  Photo names are still there, but pictures are gone.  When I click on the black thumbnail, I get an exclamation point).  SOME of the pictures loaded, at least half are gone.  I've tried the tricks of command-option clicking iPhoto and clicking all the boxes and downloading iphoto manager.  Nothing.  Then we tried importing an old CD of pictures and they aren't showing up at all (it says "no photos").
So... What's going on?  I want my pictures back!

5956 photos could not be copied because they could not be found in the original library.  Click the "View Log" button to see which photos could not be found.
6005 errors occurred during the process. Click the "View Log" button for more details.

And has some of these: "11-07-28 13:25:10.804 *** Error: No match found in destination library for /Users/(name)/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2011/07/25/20110725-230020/(photo name).jpg"

  • Howto restore deleted files/photos from aperture (backup =time machine)

Hi there, I'm following up on a thread I posted under 'time-machine' discussion forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12158758#12158758)
Problem: I incidentally deleted some photos that shouldn't have been deleted. I'm using 'time-machine' and wonder how can I restore those images?
As I recall, there is one file (as in database) for aperture that store all photos init. Is there a 'trick' to get yesterday's file and resurrect the lost photos?
    Thanks for any pointers.

    Adriana
are the files in the Aperture trash?
Do you use the vault feature of Aperture or just Time Machine?
If you only use Time Machine the files will be in there, get back to us on the first couple and if it is only Time Machine some one here can step you through how to retrieve the files.

  • HT201250 How do I view individual photos in iPhoto on Time Machine?

I go in to Time Machine, then Pictures and iPhoto Library but cannot open any further - is this where they should be for me to open the whole library as I can't open it?

Time Machine can't restore individual pictures on iPhoto. If you want to restore a photo from the Time Machine backup, you have to restore the whole library and you will lose recent changes.
A workaround would be to access to your Time Machine drive manually and restore the iPhoto library from the backup you want to a folder. Open a Finder window, choose your Time Machine drive in the sidebar and go to Backups.backupdb > yourcomputername > backupdate (being the date when the backup was created) > Macintosh HD (or the disk name you selected) > Users > youruserfolder > Pictures, and copy the iPhoto library to another folder. Open the old library, extract the photos and copy them to your current iPhoto library.
If you just wanted to view individual photos from an iPhoto backup you have in Time Machine, you just have to restore the iPhoto library to another folder (in case you don't want to lose your current iPhoto library)

  • Restore data from Lion with Time Machine

    Help needed!
I am going to buy a new iMac. Currently I am using Lion (10.7.5) and backing up with Time Machine. So the question is: Can I restore the data from the Time Machine to a new iMac with Mountain Lion or do I need to first upgrade Lion to Mountain Lion?
    Thanks for helping me!

You can restore this Lion Time Machine backup without any problem. During the first startup of the new iMac, it will ask you to restore the backup, so choose the option to restore from an external drive and follow the steps.
You will be able to choose what you want to restore, and as you have newer system apps versions than the ones that the backup has, they won't be replacing, keeping Mac OS X working correctly.  Read > http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupLion.html
