Restore/recovery mode

i updated my ipod touch last night, came back to it on my desk and now it's recovery/restore mode, what do i do?

Here's what error 1611 can be about:
Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. • Restore/recovery mode loop

Okay, here it goes. About a week ago, I turned on my iPod mini, and it came up with a folder. The night before it was perfectly fine, but at this time I got the folder. I plugged it into the computer, and after it yelling at me that I didn't have enough space on the computer (even though I did, and it was insisting everything on the ipod was "other" and so was trying to send everything again). So, I went to restore the iPod, figuring formatting it would allow everything to be sent, and work perfectly fine. Well, from here, since that time, I have been stuck in a continous Restore-"in recovery mode. You must restore to use in iTunes" loop.
I have found MANY topics about this on the forums, all attributing it to many things (a lot of them to iTunes 7.02, which coincidently, I updated to only 2 days before this happened).
    Here's what I've tried.
    -changing drive letter
    -restoring in disk mode
    -drive diagnosis
    -removing/reinstalling iTunes/iPod
-creating another user on my computer and trying to restore it that way
-formatting it manually, which doesn't work, being as the second I clicked restore, the iPod harddrive was formatted, and therefore, duh, there's nothing on it anymore to manually delete.
There was one suggestion on the forum to deleter the iPod drivers in the computer and try again, but I'm scared to do that in case I screw something up with the computer, and then I would be totally screwed.
    Any more suggestions?

I am afraid you have tried almost everything, the only suggestion is :-
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Lost songs, can't restore, recovery mode loop?

I plugged in my ipod nano for just a routine synch of some new songs.  All appeared to synch as normal, but then I looked and it said "0 songs!!!"   Next, an error message pops up and gives me no choice but to restore to factory settings, or cancel, so I chose to restore.  Now, it says I am in "recovery mode," but nothing is happening.   I seem to be caught in some loop that just keeps asking me to restore, whle ipod shows white screen with black "Do not Disconnect" flashing.   But nothing appears to be happening.  It has been this way for an hour.
Please help.....Don't know how things went so wrong just to synch a couple of new songs!!
    Thanks,
    Suzanne

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

  • IOS 5 put my phone in recovery mode and won't turn back on or let me restore it, does anyone know how to fix this?

today i tried downloading ios 5 for my iphone 4. i updated all the software on my macbook pro. then when i was downloading ios 5 for my phone. it completely shut off. at first it was just showing me the screen to plug it into itunes. when i did, it would tell me to restore it because it was in recovery mode. however, it could not get approved by apple. i understand they have been bombarded today. however, now it is just showing a black screen with the loading circle on it. it wont let me turn it back on. and when i plug it into my computer it isnt recognizing it. i dont know what to do. is my phone dead forever? its been 4 hours..

If you have no other choice then put it in DFU mode. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3374810?

  • I did a backup on my iPod touch and it said it worked...but now it won't let me access anything and says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this IPod before it can be used."  I will lose all my videos and pics if I do that

I did a backup on my iPod touch last night and it said it worked...I wanted to make sure my 1100 pictures and videos, mostly of my son, were safe since we rarely use the iPod touch anymore since we bought an iPad...I can't find them or I have no idea how to access them...I do not have a MAC...I have an HP computer with windows...
Now when I try to use my iTunes a message comes up that says my iPod is on recovery mode and has to do a restore to use my iTunes again...so when u click on that it states that pushing that button will restore my iPod touch to its factory settings...which means I will lose all my data...which I CANNOT do bc the videos of my son are some of his first words, first giggles, etc.
Now my iPod is stuck on a screen with a picture of a USB cord and an iTunes icon... and holding the power and push buttons down at the same time does nothing except bring up the apple icon for a moment and then it goes right back to the USB and iTunes icon
When I called Apple they said in order to talk to tech support I had to pay a fee of 19 dollars...which I think is kind of crap...I paid over 300 dollars for this and all I want is somebody to help me access my pics...I have done nothing wrong...this iPod was never dropped and never broke...I did the backup like I was supposed to and now I have an IPod touch that does nothing, and if my library of pics and videos are on my computer, I have no clue where or how to view them or back them up onto DVD....
I'm very upset and frustrated...please help!!!

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • My phone is in recovery mode. I need to get it out without restoring my phone. Im soooo frustrated I don't want to loose all of my data.

I need help before I through my phone out the window. I tried updating my phone and have had nothing but problems. It is now in recovery mode and iTunes is telling me I need to restore it back to the factory setup. I do not want to restore my phone, I am going to loose all of my data if I do this. How can I get my phone out of recovery mode? I have already tried holding how the power and home buttons, letting one go at a time and contenting to hold them down for a number of seconds blah blah blah blah blah. It doesn't work, I don't know what to do.

If the phone is in recovery mode, the data is already gone. You'll need to restore your information from your most recent back up.

No, it does not.  It transfers purchases from the iDevice to the computer.  The computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

Are they selected to sync?  Is Manually Manage content on the device selected?

What does that have to do with syncing content to the device?  FYI, nothing.

  • My iPod Touch won't restore on iTunes! It's stuck on recovery mode and I can't get it to restore after I updated the software! Help?

Okay, so I got an iPod touch, 4th gen, 32gb, brand new and running perfectly fine two years ago. Used it for about six months, lost it, and finally found it again a month ago tucked away in my recliner. It was as dead as a doornail, but I had it charged up and ready to go in a few hours.
So I wanted to get a special app for my iHome, as well as spend all of my accumulated iTunes cards that were previously useless due to the fact that I had lost my iPod for a year and a half. The app store said I had to update to the current software to download anything new, so I did just that about half an hour ago, updating to the latest version of iTunes and downloading the new software for my iPod like I was supposed to.
Only when I applied it to my iPod, it went into Recovery Mode as expected, but I can't restore it! I've made sure there's no extra USB attachments in it, my firewalls are currently down to get around this stupid thing (just turned them back on because it wasn't working), and feeling like I just let all this money slip down the drain.
If you have any relevant advice, please help! I'm running on Windows 7 with the current version of iTunes (64 bit). Help!

  • Can't get iPhone 4s out of recovery mode and always get error 40 during restore

I tried updating to ios 6.1.2 and I left it for a while since I had to do some stuff. When I came back, my iPhone is in recovery mode and I can't get it to restore using itunes. I always get error 40. I tried restoring on a different pc but it's still a no go. Is it possible that this has something to do with the hardware? I've already looked up possible solutions but my iphone's still in recovery mode. I never had this phone opened nor did I attempt to jailbreak it or anything. I tried asking my carrier for assistance but they're charging me for repairs. The fee's pretty expensive.
