Restore rman backup whitout controlfile or backup controlfile
hi,
I have a rman database backup and rman archivelogs bakups but no controlfile or backup controlfile.
How can restore the database?
thanks
thanks for replay
yes, i have a human readable trace controlfile and i could generate CREATE CONTROLFILE command but still can not create the controlfile because i have not datafile 1 which is in rman backupset and which can not be restored because of controlfile:
SQL> @D:\oServers\databases102\ploiesti\control.txt
CREATE CONTROLFILE set DATABASE "PRIM" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-01565: error in identifying file
'D:\oServers\databases102\ploiesti\data\SYSTEM01.DBF'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
OSD-04002: fi║ierul nu a putut fi deschis
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
I will try to create a new database and to use new controlfile for catalog rman backupset.
thanks again

RMAN: create only one copy of controlfile backup
OS: AIX 5.3L and Oracle 10g R2
When I run my RMAN backup, if I have configure controlfile autobackup ON and run a rman script with full db backup, the rman always generates two copies of controlfile backup at the same location. My Q are
1. how can I just generate one copy?
2. if it generates 2 copies, can I have one copy at one lolcation and second copy at other loaction?
I once entered the "CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/remote/solar/flash_recovery/baan_standby/cf_%F'; ", it will alter my default location again, thenstill produced 2 copies at the same location.I cannot get Firefox to run now. I backed up my Profile to another drive. Cannot create a new one as Firefox will not run. It says there is another copy running. However, I have deleted all Firefox and Mozilla files and downloaded new. When I try to run it, I get the message to close Firefox as two cannot run at once.
I did create a new Mac account logon and can run Firefox there, so something in the other account is showing Firefox is running.
I also checked in ACTIVITY MONITOR and in SETUP and there is no Firefox or Mozilla running.
So, where can this bug be hiding???? -
Dear All,
I am practicing Oracle Restore scenarios on my Oracle 9i database. Once I complete my tests in Oracle 9i I will move up to 10g and then finally to 11g.
Following is my recovery scenario:
1) I did NOT configure Recovery Catalog
2) I would like to restore my databse from a 15 days old backup
3) control_file_record_keep_time is set to 7 days.
4) Backups are on tape.
Can you guys please shed some light on how to I proceed?
- PIn oracle 9i , check , which situation you can perform complete recovery and in which situations you have to select incomplete recovery.

Restoring Rman backup on New Host with different directory structure
Hi,
I have a following scenario to clone the database.
1. clone the database on new server
2. source is non - ASM and target is ASM
3. On source incremental level 0 backup taken on disk connecting to catalog, the backup is moved to target host to different directory structure
4. source is running on 32-bit Linux two node Rac and Target is running on 64-bit Linux two node Rac
I did the following steps and getting below error:
1. I copied incremental Level 0 backup to target server(where we need to build new db) to different directory structure
2. On target i created pfile and build the instance, as dbf file are in multiple locations in source i put following tow parameters in init.ora of target database
*.db_file_name_convert =(/u02/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA2/udev/datafile),(/u03/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u12/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile,),(/u99/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u09/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u14/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u07/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u06/oradata/prod/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile'),(/u05/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile)
*.log_file_name_convert =("/u99/oradata/app1p/","+QADATA2/udev/onlinelog/")
3. connected to rman -->> started db in nomount -->> restored the controlfile --> cataloged the backup piece and then i am trying to restore
All the above steps i did using the Doc id *How To Restore Rman Backups On A Different Node When The Directory Structures Are Different [ID 419137.1]*
script i am using is :

Restore RMAN from different Database Rman backup
Hi Everybody
I am practicing Rman so I have one query that how to restore rman backup from another database.
For Example :
1. I have Rman backup of DB1 with level 0 and level 1 cumulative database plus archievelog
2. I need to import or restore Rman backup of DB1 to another database DB2.
What is the procedure for doing the above queries. Please anyone one help me out.
I have using oracle 10g r2 running in windows server 2003.
Thanks in advance.These are the steps ; you need to write the appropiate commands for each step: Hope it helps!
1) Take appropriate RMAN backup of the database db1. Note that you should turn on the CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP configuration so that we have the controlfile backed up after the database backup. When we restore the controlfile on new host from this autobackup piece, it will have the information of the latest backup.
2) Create a PFILE for the destination database db2 using the database db1
3) Move the backup pieces and the modified INIT.ORA file to the new host. Starting from 10g it is NO longer compulsory to copy the RMAN backup pieces to exactly the same location on the new host as the production location.
4) Use the pfile created above to STARTUP NOMOUNT the database on the new host
5) Now invoke RMAN and restore the controlfile specifying the location where the controlfile autobackup piece is restored on this new server. You can mount the database once the controlfile is restored successfully.
6) You can skip this step if you have restored the RMAN backup pieces to exactly the same location they were backed up on database db1. If this is not the case then you need to catalog the RMAN backup pieces to make RMAN aware of thier new location on the new host. Note that CATALOG BACKUPPIECE command is available only starting from 10g.
7) Having determined the point up to which media recovery should run, start the restore/recovery using for example:
RMAN> run {
2> set until sequence 59 thread 1;
3> set newname for datafile 1 to '/new_location/system01.dbf';
4> set newname for datafile 2 to '/new_location/undotbs01.dbf';
5> set newname for datafile 3 to '/new_location/sysaux01.dbf';
6> set newname for datafile 4 to '/new_location/users01.dbf';
7> restore database;
8> switch datafile all;
9> recover database;
10> } -
Restoring RMAN backup on a different server
Hi oracle gurus
i have following scenario
i have a compressed backup set of a database
i want to restore that rman backup on to a different server.
both the server have same version of oracle.and both the server are of 32 bit.
please reply if any more info is required.RESTORE AND RECOVERY PROCEDURE OF PRODUCTION DATABASE BACKUP ON TEST SERVERS
As part of disaster recovery exercise or to test the validity of a RMAN backup, a full restore and recovery of databases can be performed on scratch or test servers utilising the production RMAN backups which have been restored from the tape backups on these test or scratch servers.
This note will illustrate the above procedure by detailing the steps required to restore the backup of a production database (prod1) on a test server linux01 .
The following assumptions are made in this note:
The RMAN backups have been restored from tape backups to the same backup location on the test server as the production server where the backup was originally taken
The identical directory structure as is present on production has been created on the test server. This will apply to not only the location of the database files (data, control files, redo log files), but also to the bdump,cdump, udump and adump locations.
Controlfile autobackup has been enabled. This is important.
Overview
Restore the spfile from the autobackup
Restore the controlfile from the autobackup
Restore the data files
Recover by applying archived redo log files
Open the database with resetlogs
Restore the SPFILE
[oracle@linux01 prod1]$ rman target /
connected to target database (not started)
RMAN> set dbid=4266928631
executing command: SET DBID
RMAN> startup force nomount;
startup failed: ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/dbs/initprod1.ora'
starting Oracle instance without parameter file for retrival of spfile
Oracle instance started
Total System Global Area 159383552 bytes
Fixed Size 2039056 bytes
Variable Size 67109616 bytes
Database Buffers 83886080 bytes
Redo Buffers 6348800 bytes
RMAN> run
2> {SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u02/backup/prod1/%F';
3> restore spfile from autobackup;
4> }
RMAN> shutdown immediate;
Restore the Control File
In this case, the instance is now being started with the restored spfile. We can create a pfile as well from this spfile is so required.
RMAN> startup nomount
connected to target database (not started)
Oracle instance started
RMAN> set dbid=4266928631
executing command: SET DBID
RMAN> run
2> {SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u02/backup/prod1/%F';
3> restore controlfile from autobackup;
4> }
RMAN> alter database mount;
database mounted
released channel: ORA_DISK_1
Restore the database
RMAN> restore database;
Recover the database
The recovery will fail at a point where it cannot restore any more archived redo log files.
In this case the last archived log file which has been backed up is sequence 613.
This information can be obtained by issuing a LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL command.
So RMAN will fail when it tries to apply sequence 614 ….
RMAN> recover database
[oracle@linux01 PROD1]$ rman target /
connected to target database: PROD1 (DBID=4266928631, not open)
RMAN> sql 'alter database open resetlogs';

Edited by: zycoz100 on Feb 27, 2013 4:42 AMA controlfile create is a fairly trivial task, for either a cold backup or hot backup scenario. Well, its an easy task after you've done the process a few times.
If you have a healthy oracle instance running any place else, preferably at 11gR2, or even a 10g instance can work as an example, get a system connection and do an `alter database backup controlfile to trace;` and the instance will create a new trace file with all SQL commands needed to rebuild the controlfile in the instance trace directory.
Have a look at the trace file, a `show parameter diag` reveals the diagnostic_dest parameter, look for the "trace" directory under that folder, for the latest *trc file. In 10g its `show parameter dump` and the trace file goes straight to the user_dump_dest directory, no digging required. -
I have to restore the RMAN full backup from tape to new host to a previous date say March 1st. My target database RMAN retention period is 28 days, today is 11th May.
Is it possible to restore the obsolete database from tape backup to new host as of May 1st. If not possible, I would like to restore the available backup say as 15th April from tape to new host.
Can you please provide me the steps to restore the tape old backup to new host.
Thanks,

How to restore RMAN hot backup to another database on another server?
I want to know how to restore RMAN hot backup from production server to another database on a testing server.
The hot backup is from a database named PROD on the production server
The database to be restored with the hot backup is TEST on the testing server. There is already a PROD database on the testing server and this PROD database must be kept.
I have read some threads about changing initTEST.ora to PROD to restore such backup but (I think) will not work in my case since I already have a PROD database on the testing server.
The version is 11gR2 on Linux but the compatible parameter is set to 10.2.0.1.0.
Thanks for any help.Hi,
Since you are on 11g, hope this helps you http://shivanandarao.wordpress.com/2012/04/28/duplicating-database-without-connecting-to-target-database-or-catalog-database-in-oracle-11g/

Restore RMAN Backup in Different Database on Same RAC
We have 11gR2 2 node RAC on Linux. ASM and OMF is used for database. The database on it is backedup using RMAN.
We want to test the RMAN backup by restoring it to a new database on same server.
Can someone guide me to steps on how this can be achieved. I'm afraid this should not affect the actual database.
Thanks a lot.Hi,
Yes, this can be done without disturbing your source db. Need more information on your DB structure (datafile asm diskgroups), all you need to do is restore as single node and convert to rac, since you want to test rman restore, you can restore to single node to prove your RMAN backups are intact.
Changes in init.ora
==============
db_file_name_convert= ("source dir structure","target dir structure")
log_file_name_convert=("source dir structure","target dir structure")
cluster_database=false
event="10298 trace name context forever, level 32"
_no_recovery_through_resetlogs=TRUE
Set new database sid (export ORACLE_SID=NEW_SID)
sql>startup nomount;
rman auxiliary /
rman>duplicate database to "NEW_SID" backup location "Your RMAN Backup location";
The above are very high level general steps, please do take other steps into consideration as per your environment. -

The main issue is your tablespace name is an RMAN Reserved Word "Test"

Note
If you dropped the tablespace then you need to recover the database to a point in time, not the tablespace.

How can I force iTunes to re-copy a song to an iPod?
A couple of years ago, I spent weeks ripping my multi-hundred CD collection. I didn't use iTunes for this project, and I found out later that many of the CDs didn't rip correctly (skips, crackles, low volume, etc.). Most were fine, so I didn't take
