Restore session in firefox [solved]

when i switch on my computer, kde loads the previous session - so far so good. but since firefox 2 (bon echo) instead of starting the tabs according to the preferences, it shows a warning: "restore old session or start new session". it seems that the normal shutdown procedure is seen as a crash in firefox.
does sombody know a way to switch off this warning? i haven't found anything, neither in about:config or on the net.

the problem was that i used an old 1.5.x user-directory for my ff 2.0 install. i copied the entire folder to save all bookmarks, preferences and plugins. which was obviously not a good idea

  • "Restore Session" in Firefox 2.x problem

We are using custom authorization. All works fine...when user logout or close its browser, his session cannot be reused.
    Problem is with FF 2.02.
If any instance of FF has been violate killed (from process explorer or PC has been rebooted), on first next start, FF is able to restore all sessions.
The problem is that in our case, it can restore session on Apex 2.2 authenticated pages also!!
Any help to ensure that this behavior cannot occur in a case of subnormal termination of Firefox browser?
    Apex 2.2.0.2 , Oracle 10.2.0.2

I tried the same test with my internet banking (cannot give you a link because it is secured with token), the same problem is somehow solved!

This mean that FF "restore session" cannot reuse previous session in any way. So it seems that this technology (it is not apex but some jsp version) can handle with this really big security issue.

<b>browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash</b> is on client side and it is not the default option. So we cannot place that kind of security in any way.

  • How to use restore session in firefox 4?

When I close sessions, the restore session does not respond when I reopen firefox and cannot thus restore previous sessions.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    <br />
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • I gat this message when trying to sign in to firefox- Restore Session-Mozilla Firefox not responding.

I redownloaded and the same thick happens. Any suggestions?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I go to open up firefox and it shows at the top Restore Session - Mozilla Firefox and freezes won't let me do anything

    firefox won't run

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • How do I PREVENT tabs/sessions restoring when restarting Firefox after a forced close/crash?

So... I'm running, say, a Google search, and I click on a link I think will be useful. But unfortunately, I've been taken! I get redirected to some scary Website I don't want to be at. I try to close the page, but a dialogue box pops up saying, "But wait! Don't you want to download our dangerous trojan horse? Y/Y?"
I don't want to click ANYWHERE on the dialogue box for fear of making the stupid situation I've gotten myself into worse. I can't close Firefox because it's "waiting for a response from you" so I force-close it from Task Manager. Whew!
EXCEPT then when I restart Firefox, it "helpfully" tries to restore my session... with the scary site with the scary dialogue box.
If I force a close a second time with Task Manager, Firefox fails to restore it again, so I can continue on my merry way and remember to be more careful on my searches, but it's damned annoying when it happens!
How do I make Firefox NOT want to restore sessions/tabs? All support info is about ENSURING session restoring, not prevent it!
And frankly, I can't think of a single time I'd actually want to restore a session after a crash. Worse comes to worse I'd rather just start from scratch anyway.
This doesn't happen often (I like to think I'm not entirely a moron and can avoid obviously harmful sites most of the time), but it's annoying when it does. I can keep Task-Manager closing until it won't restore, but I'd rather just have nothing restore at all!

You can do this by changing a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # In the filter box type '''resume''' to bring up a small number of preferences
    # Double-click on the preference '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash''' to change its value to '''false'''
That change will stop Firefox trying to resume the session after a crash

  • Usually after Firefox crashes I can restore session but sometimes it won't let me. Is there a way to restore a session once automatic option goes away?

    1. Firefox crashes and an error message appears.
    2. I open Firefox again.
    3. Automatically Firefox asks if I want to restore the last session or start a new session.
    4. Usually it works to restore a session, but at random times, it does not and the following happens.
    5. I move the mouse toward the restore session button but don't quite get there when my usual home page opens.
Question: once this happens is there a way to get my old session back, like a place where you can manually request Firefox restart the last session?

did not have that extension installed, but did it now and can't find anything there that would concern tab groups. (also referred to as Panorama). This session manager seems to provide a lot of stuff that the browser is supposed to do anyhoo, but with more options of configuration. Hope extension and browser won't cause a mess while attempting to do both the same thing.
Yes, I know that Bookmark all tabs is still available via right click - after a google-search told me so. My feedback was - why remove functionality from the menu? It's really not overloaded - and I'd expect a menu listing me the complete set of functions a software allows me to do, unless it busts the menu. So I was just asking myself - how come it has been removed? Makes no sense to me.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • When the first version of the Restore Session tab was implemented in an update for Firefox?

''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/806369]''
Essentially, I'm trying to find out how many sessions I can restore since, after the creation of this feature, I typically allowed the "Restore Session" Tab to remain in the window, allowing me to at least access the last few sessions later on when I'm much less busy. Unfortunately, I let it get a bit out of hand. Is there any way for me to find out how many sessions I have saved in this way by searching through files or folders affiliated with this browser? Even if the history clears about every 290 something days, are these sessions and the information they require stored in such a way that the clearing of history would not create a problem if I want to restore very old sessions that were left in this manner? (I recently changed it to allow all of my history to be saved, rather than just limiting the number of days, but I fear I might have taken this action too late. And I'm going to download a "Session Manager" add-on, to help me with this in the future, but, I'm still worried about these past sessions.) Any help or information would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

You can only manage multiple sessions with an extension like Session Manager (extends the build-in session restore) or Tab Mix Plus (has its own implementation of session restore, so can be less reliable if Firefox doesn't close properly). The basic build-in Firefox session restore only handles the previous session. Firefox 4 has a button on the about:home page and a menu entry (History > Restore Previous Session), but Firefox 3 doesn't have that feature. Session Restore stores a list of currently open tabs, so the amount of history that you keep shouldn't matter.

5.0.1 Firefox, application froze then crashed. Restarted it, but no 'restore session' and i've lost all my tabs. Help please?!?!
    Done config:restoresession, and nothing.

There shouldn't be any numbered sessionstore-##.js in the Firefox Profile Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
The presence of such files usually indicates that that was a problem with accessing the main sessionstore.js file that prevented Firefox from renaming the temp file with the number.<br />
In this case you may be lucky that the file with the highest number may have that session.<br />
You can try to rename the file sessionstore-3.js to sessionstore.js to see if that brings back the lost tabs.
If you use the Time Machine then you can try to restore a copy of sessionstore.js from around the time that you lost that session.

  • Firefox will not restore session after crash

Hello, I am writing because whenever I resume Firefox (like from a crash or restart), it will not reload my previous pages. Instead it will only open a new window and I have to dig through my history to find and reload the pages from my previous session. Firefox is set to remember history and to show my windows and tabs from last time.
My Firefox version is up to date (although it seems that the version doesn't matter). I have gone into about:config, set browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo to 40, set browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo to 10, and reset broser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to true. None of that has helped and the latter kicks back to false every time Firefox restarts.
I have had this issue occur a couple of times in the past, and if I recall, I had to create a new account. If told how to, I can do this again, but I would prefer to get to the root of the problem to prevent this from occurring again (plus I'd hate to lose all my history again). If anyone can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask. Thank you.

I have finally found a working solution with help from Zzxc.
You do have to create a new profile, but you can save everything from browser history to ad-ons to dictionary. It even restored the pages I had open in the old profile.
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles
This shows you how to create a new profile. I left the old one and named my new one as "name" - New Default - "current date"
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile
This shows you how to find all of your information and settings for both profiles. It shows you what file is what (so you can pick and choose), but if you just copy everything from inside the old profile folder and paste it into the new profile folder, you should be gold.
This seems to have worked for me. If it turns out that I copied and pasted the problem as well, I will post it here, but as of now, everything appears to be in working order. Thanks.

  • Firefox just updated to 5.0.1 when it opens it opens two tabs, one a restore session tab and the other Firefox home tab. Nothing appears in the restore tab and everything freezes. Only way to get out is to ctrl, alt, del.

After updating to Firefox 5.0.1 and trying to open Firefox, it opens two tabs. One is the restore session tab and the other is the Firefox home tab. Nothing opens in the session restore tab and once the Firefox home tab loads the browser screen freezes with no crash ID's listed. The only way to get out is thru the task manager and ending the process. Firefox worked fine before updating.

    Hi glivezey,
Try typing ''about:home'' into the address bar. Is that the page you are looking for? If so, go to ''Tools > Options > General'' and save it as your homepage. If that home page doesn't show up the next time you start Firefox, you should look at [[Preferences are not saved]].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Does firefox create multiple restore sessions and save them?

Sometimes my computer crashes twice in a row, or things happen similar to this. When this happens, the "Restore Session" is not available on the history dropdown menu. Why is that? Is there a way to make this happen? No way can I go through the total history - thousands of websites and some don't say what they are when looking at the URL or title. I don't want to save all the time - this is a basic function that could easily be done automatically.
Is there a solution to this?

Firefox should not be crashing, if t is maybe that is something to investigate.
Firefox does try to save Restore Sessions, but if you close down incorrectly or crash frequently they are going to get messed up.
Always try to close correctly, which on an XP will be by using the File option (Newer Windows sytems have the quit option under the new Firefox Button)
Have a look at the article

When you quit firefox with tabs and windows open it "remembers".  When you start Firefox it tries to restore the tabs and windows you had open.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.
