Restore single image from managed library

How does one restore a single image from a library, either managed or referenced. It seems that in Time Machine one does not have access to the individual files in a managed library as one does from the Finder.
Is my conclusion then, that in order to be able to recover individual file(s) one should use a referenced library?

The Aperture Restore from Vault as you know saves your current library and restores all managed photos from the Vault. Note, previews are not stored on the Vault so they need to be regenerated (at least that was true in Aperture 2 but I have not done a restore in Aperture 3).
Referenced images are not stored on the Aperture Library or Aperture Vault, just the adjustments you make to the image. So if your image is mangled, but you know the external referenced image displays fine, say, in Preview, then something may have gone wrong with the adjustments or raw conversion etc. You can remove all adjustments on the mangled image and see if that corrects the display problem.
If the external image itself is corrupted, then Time Machine will restore it hopefully to a prior 'good' version as you know. The contents of an Aperture Library can be individually referenced via the Finder but it's not something where you can replace any of the contents as I understand that will damage your library integrity.

  • Single Images from iPhoto library placed in iMovie - what do I do next?

    Hi there,
    I recently purchased/upgraded to iLife 08 from iLife 06 as it is the one that is compatible with my iMac G5 and was experimenting in iMovie 08. I placed some images into the top left pane from my photo library and then I added some music from iTunes library and hit the play button and was amazed at the quality of the playback. Other than delete this is there any way I can save it so I could put it on a DVD later or even burn it now. Where would it be located at if I wanted to find it later on? Can I burn it from where it is?
    Sorry for what might seem stupid questions but I know little if anything about iMovie.
    Would appreciate any help you may kindly give me.
    Thanks.
    Ian

    Click SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER or SHARE/iTunes.
    Then you can watch in iTunes, or create a DVD from iDVD. (In iDVD, open the Media Browser at the bottom right and drag it in.)
    Keep in mind that DVDs are a standard definition (640x480) format, so the photos will not look as good as they do on your computer screen.

  • How can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, do I have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense

    I hope there has been found a more efficiant solution for this,  how can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, I really hope I don't have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense
    any suggestions?

    Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.

  • Single Image from the Picture Library

    Hi All - I am trying to display single image from a picture library. I thought it is the simplest task of all to do in SharePoint. I am having hard time. The Picture Library List View Webpart is not displaying single image (created a view that will bring
    last updated image) on the blank webpage page. Then I tried the (new in 2013) Picture Library Slideshow Webpart. I set the List and View. It is still showing slideshow. Why is it showing slideshow if the view is pulling only single image. When I browse the
    Picture Library and its Single Image View (that I created to filter and show only last updated one), the view page is showing single image. I need to show this single image on the Webpart page. Could anybody please guide me what am i doing wrong?

    Just wondering, if your requirement is just to display an image using a webpart, have you tried a content editor webpart?

  • Photos 1.0 not showing all images from Photos Library.photoslibrary folder/file after update install

    I installed the update that changed my iPhoto to Photos 1.0, and the new Photos program is not showing all images from Photos Library.photoslibrary file/folder (not sure to call it file or folder since it is actually a folder with all my pics but it acts more like a file) after update install.  The Photos Library.photoslibrary file/folder shows to be 55 gb in size, and it shows to be loaded into the photos program, but there are maybe a few weeks of pictures showing instead of a few years.  Lots of pictures in the 55 gb are not showing for some reason.

    No - iPhotos has not replaced anything - it is new and an addition - iPhoto is still on your system in the applications folder and still works just fine
    Outlook is not supported by Photos - not sure if the support must come form Apple or MS as Photos uses a different interface to external packages than iphoto did

  • Adding images from my library to empty mc in loop

    Hi
    I am 1 step away from finishing my for loop. I have a item mc I have duplicated 8 items (indexarray.length) and what my loop currently does is display these 8 blank movieclips on the screen positioned 4 in each row. Inside this blank item mc I have a dynamic text field name_text within this item that call on names from a previously declared array. I also have a empty movieclip called image_holder with property name imageHolder. So far the below displays my 8 items with names but without the image:
    function displayItems()
    var xPos = 0;
    var yPos = 0;
    for (var i:Number=0; i<indexArray.length; i++)
    var item:NewItem = new NewItem();
    item.name = "item" + i;
    MainItem.addChild(item);
    item.alpha = 30;
    //item.indexValue = (randomArray[i]+1)*2;
    item.x = xPos;
    item.y = yPos;
    xPos += (70*2 + 15);
    if (i == indexArray.length/2-1)
    xPos = 0;
    yPos += (70*2 + 50);
    item.name_text.text = indexArray[orderArray[i]];
    //add images here
    displayItems();
    All my images are in my library in movieclips name item0 to item 7 to fit in accordingly. What do I need to add to the above code to get these images inside my image_holder mc?
    Thanks in advance
    Mark

    You will need to assign class names to your image movieclips in the library.  The standard is to name classes starting with capital letters (so in your case you can use...Item0, Item2, etc...  To assign the class names, right click the image movieclip in the library and select Linkage... in the panel that appears select Export for Actionscript and enter the class name in the field labeled for it.
    It is not clear from your description what the instance name is that you have assigned to the image holder.  The code below assumes you named them image_holder, though you may have used imageHolder, so you may need to change that in what is shown below.  THe code below has three bolded lines added to take care of loading the images from the library.
    function displayItems()
    var xPos = 0;
    var yPos = 0;
    for (var i:Number=0; i<indexArray.length; i++)
    var item:NewItem = new NewItem();
    item.name = "item" + i;
    MainItem.addChild(item);
    item.alpha = 30;
    //item.indexValue = (randomArray[i]+1)*2;
    item.x = xPos;
    item.y = yPos;
    xPos += (70*2 + 15);
    if (i == indexArray.length/2-1)
    xPos = 0;
    yPos += (70*2 + 50);
    item.name_text.text = indexArray[orderArray[i]];
    //add images here
    var ClassRef:Class = Class(getDefinitionByName("Item"+String(i)));
    var classInstance:* = new ClassRef();
    item.image_holder.addChild(classInstance);
    displayItems();

  • Can I restore MY RATINGS from the library.xml file alone?

    That's the question - Can I restore MY RATINGS from the library.xml file alone?
    Some facts to consider before replying:
    1. I do not have the ITL file, so that solution is out.
    2. My ipod was restored so NO ratings there either.
    3. So far I have only seen programs to use BEFORE losing your itunes library. IF YOU KNOW a third party's program can help me AFTER THE FACT then tell me about it.
    4. I HAVE searched these forums for previous threads. (a) searching engine needs big help and (b) among the 2 dozen finds, no solution for "only XML" found. If you got THAT threads url, post it!
    So, using an old library.xml file, is there a way to get this info into itunes.

  • Moving images from one library to another; or how to have 2 libraries open at the same time in Aperture 2

    This may be something easy but for some reason I am having a hard time figuring this out. Basically this is the situation: I have a library on my MBP hd that I import pictures to when I am not hooked up to my external hd for the time being. The main library is of course on the external 2tb drive. How do I have 2 libraries open so that I can essentially drag and drop the pictures from one library to another? It would basically be like moving files from one project to another. Thanks for any help!

    Always keep a backup of your original images, before you delete them. I make a backup right form the card, before I even import them to Aperture.
    How are your images stored right now? Are the referenced or managed? On your big volume I'd consolidate the newly imported images, to be sure they are really inside the Aperture library before I delete any images outside the library.
    but they have the little yellow triangle caution symbol on them and I can see them but not really edit them
    That is a very typical problem, when you imported your images as referenced images then somehow delete or move the original master image files, that are stored outside the Aperture library.
    Do you still have the original masters of the images with the yellow triangle that you cannot edit? In Aperture 3 you can point Aperture to the location of the master image file "File >Locate referenced image" - probably Aperture 2 has a similar command to let you reconnect your masters, if you still have them. Look into the manual.

  • Pull random images from iPhoto library folders

    I'm trying to come up with a script to pull random images from my iPhoto library and copy them to another folder that I can then use with another program (GeekTool) to display them on my desktop.
    What I'd like to be able to do is pull 30-50 of these images at a time. I can use GeekTool to call the script at a given interval (eg. every half hour) and have a completely different set of images everytime the script is run.
    I'm a complete obliviot when it comes to applescripting, so I'm at the mercy of the experts. I've managed to find a couple of scripts that can do something similar with the screensaver, but I'm unable to figure out the script enough to make it do what I need.
    Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Restoring single project from vault after Aperture 2.0 failure.

    Is it possible to restore a single project from my vault?
    Suddenly, one of my projects just died on me after I had just imported a very large TIFF, producing nothing but "cut out picture frames", and even after doing the newest update, which I didn't have previously, all my photos are still gone! It also caused Aperture 2.0 to quit spontaneously! If I double click on one of the missing photos, it states:"Unsupported Image Format". Oh ooh!
    If anyone knows how this error came about (maybe the imported image was corrupted somehow?), that would be of great help!
    Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.
    Mc

    If I wanted to restore a single image personally, I would go manually grab it from the vault using Finder. You can right click on the vault and do "show package contents," then navigate to the projects, right click and again "show package contents" for your project, and then go find it.

  • Can RAW images from Aperture library stored in an External HD?

    I last night[I thought I did] stored projects from aperture library to an external Iomega Mac version HD.[Partitioned the Iomega into two One large225GB for Time Machine and small 125GB for just back up folders]
    Then I have reinstalled my Mac OS.
    Now I connect the HD to my Apple Mac Book Air and see the saved images on the external HD but not highlighted and not there for available to open in my Aperture Apps?
    I also tried to import selectively the Aperture images from my Time Machine back up and that too failed.
    I on opening the Aperture selected "Import photos form a Disk" but that failed too.
    I have also saved to the same external HD some modified photos saves as JEPG and they open ok.
    When I reinstalled the OS and registered in a different name, would that make any difference to importing Aperture projects saved on an external HD?
    Can anybody suggest a way to open those Aperture project folders that I have stored on my External HD?
    Regards

    Projects are entirely maintained in the Aperture Library. You can use 'referenced masters', in which your masters don't reside inside the library (and the library merely keeps track of where you decided to keep them.)
    When you import new photos, Aperture updates some information in the library so that it knows the photos exist, where they reside, what sort of changes you've made to them, etc. You can't just plop new images into an external folder and expect Aperture to notice them. Think of this as "formally introducing your photos to Aperture" -- via the import process. Aperture wont deal with any photo you haven't introduced to it.
    I would be remiss if I didn't mention the alarm bells and red flashing lights that went off as soon as I read you were keeping your photos on an external drive partitioned for Time Machine and backup folders. Bad bad bad.
    There are two types of disks in the world: (1) Those that have failed, and (2) those that are going to fail. Sadly, even backup drives are not an exception to this rule.
    Never keep the "working" copy of your data on the same physical drive as a "backup" copy of your data. When the drive fails (and someday it will) you'll just lose all your copies of your work -- so much for having a backup. Drives are very cheap these days. Just get another one and dedicate your backup disks just for backups.
    As you have a MacBook Air (and thus only a single USB 2.0 port) you might want to look into "Network Attached Storage" (aka NAS). This way you don't have a tangled mess of a USB hub hanging off your Mac with several disk drives also hanging off the side of your Mac. The disks just live on the network - as though they're remote file servers. If the network is connected via Gigabit ethernet, the effective throughput to read/write those drives is about 3x faster than a locally attached USB 2.0 drive (no kidding!). You might think this is really expensive -- but you'd be surprised. I was checking prices at Other World Computing recently (an online store of products targeted to Mac owners) and noticed you can buy an empty NAS enclosure (meaning you buy the disk to go inside it) for as cheap as $25! An enclosure with 250GB disk pre-installed and Time-Machine compatible was about $120. To put this in perspective... I recently paid about $150 for a B+W Circular Polarizing filter. So all this technology costs less than one decent lens filter for my camera.

  • Restore single photo from time machine

    Quote from apple help
    "To restore, select the file/folder and click the "Restore" button. The file will automatically be copied to the desktop or appropriate folder.  If the file you are restoring has another file in the same location with the same name, you will be prompted to choose which file to keep or keep both...."
    So to restore one lost photo from a month ago, and presuming the entire Aperture library must be restored, do I have to "keep both" restored and current libraries and short term find another 150GB space in Pictures, export the missing photo, then delete the old library? Because if I keep only the restored library I lose all recent photos surely, but it seems a long process.
    Or is there a clever workaround?  (apart from Vault which I don't intend using at this stage. )
    Still considering using Aperture, not yet purchased. Cant find this fully explained in search. Thanks.

    Peter -- adding (I hope) the excellent responses already given:
    One of the downsides of using Aperture is that "Photo" is no longer easily defined.  When you ask, "So to restore one lost photo from a month ago ... ", you must define, in terms relevant to Aperture, what you mean by "Photo".
    In Aperture you import image-format files.  On import, Aperture makes a note of where your file is located (and by default stores your file where it wants).  Thereafter your imported file is known by Aperture as an Original (prior to v. 3.3: a "Master").  Aperture also creates a text file to hold instructions on what metadata changes you make and what adjustments you make.  This text file is called a Version.  Aperture creates an image you can see, and displays this image to you as a thumbnail in the Browser, as a Preview in the Viewer (when Quick Preview is turned on) or as a fully-rendered image in the Viewer.  Aperture refers to this (somewhat fitfully) as an "Image".
    Here's what you need to know:
    Original * the instructions in the Version = the Image you see.
    When discussing Aperture it is helpful to differentiate between
    - the image-format file you imported:  the Original
    - the text file of instructions that Aperture keeps in order to modify your Original to show you what you've done to it:  the Version
    - the picture showing you all you adjustments, with all your metadata applied:  the Image
    There is a one-to-one correspondence between Image and Version:  one and only one Version is used to create each Image.  Throughout Aperture, "Version" and "Image" are used synonymously to mean "the thing you see".  Only "Version" is used to specify the text file of instructions.
    (There are excellent reasons for this set-up -- primarily among them Aperture's non-destructive workflow and excellent performance doing the tasks we ask of it -- but they are beyond the scope of this thread.)
    Some of the responses you've gotten here are about restoring your Original.  Some are about restoring your Image.  Those are, in Aperture, different tasks, dealing with different (or in one case, more) files.

  • Dragging a single image from mac Preview to InDesign CS6 doesn't work but 2 or more images does?

    I usually take anywhere form 2500 to 5000 photos in any single day's session. Because of this, I need an easy way to sort through them and grab just the one's I need to import to my InDesign "book". I have been using CS3 for years now, and what I always did was open up Preview on my Mac to browse all my days photos. Then when I found a good one, I would simply drag that single image over to my opened InDesign screen and just drop it into a page. I would then go back to Preview and continue this procedure until I had looked through all the days images. I could even drag multiple images over and once I was over InDesign I can just click each image and pop them into various pages with ease. Then I upgraded to CS6 and I've hit a kink in the works. When I drag over a single image to InDesign, before I drop it into the page my mouse pointer looks like 3 tiny paste images (the little rectangle with the folded down upper left corner). If I release my mouse to drop the image into InDesign, it just flys back to Preview and doesn't drop into InDesign. Now if I get 2 or more images from Preview, this process works just like it always did. But 1 single image... never. I've tried holding down command, shift, control, option, and combos of those buttons to see if anything changes and it never does. I always get the mouse icon with 3 little paste icons. In CS3 if I dragged a single image it would only show 1 paste icon and 3 icons if I dragged 2 or more, but not in CS6. Is there a setting I'm missing or a preference? I've tried looking through everything that I can find to no avail. There has to be a way??? Thanks!

  • Restoring .dmg image from external to Mac HD in Disk Utility: "Unable to scan image (Input/output error)"

    Hi guys,
    So I've got a problem with restoring the image backup I did (using Disk Utility) of my 500GB HD on my MBP which was acting weird or maybe even crashed a few months ago. After creating the backup image and putting it on my external device, I installed Mavericks back to see if everything was alright (mainly the HD) and everything seems okay.
    I did try restoring the backup image through disk utility before installing mavericks (thus erasing everything again on the HD) AND after. But nothing..
    The whole process starts fine and then it starts scanning the image when after maybe a good 10-15min in I get a message that says that it was unable to scan the image. I tried verifying the disk(s), everything came out "OK". Also tried scanning it through Images > Scan image for Restore... with the same results.
    While searching I've seen people getting messages like "Unable to scan filename.dmg (Invalid argument)" and "Unable to scan filename.dmg
    (Internal error)" but none have (Input/output error)
    The screen grab is below.
    I also came across something about using terminal/commands but I'm not that savvy with it, especially considering that those there had issues with either mounting or trouble finding the image.
    I've also tried moving the backup image to a different external device 2TB and also the desktop because I read it may have to do with the format of the externals or maybe free space. But THEN I would get a message saying
    "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "Mac HD Backup.dmg" can't be read or written. Error code -36"
    Fyi ALL my externals are HFS+/Journaled and the backup image format was compressed.
    I REALLY don't know what to do next. Was it the wrong move to create a dmg image? Have I lost everything? Is there still a way out?
    If anyone can help, THANKS!
