Restore Site definitions from CS 4

I recently updated from CS4 to CS 5.5 on My Mac running OS X 10.6.8. I uninstalled all CS 4 components befroe installing. Now I realize I forgot to export my existing sites before uninstalling. I do have a backup and I know where the sites exist within ~Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/en_US/Configuration. However, if I just restore this folder and replace the current SitesCache folder with this one, it does not see the sites. Is there a way to get CS 5.5 to recognize these sites?

AFAIK, you have only 2 options:
Import saved .ste files from a previous export. You would have had to do this from CS4. If not,
Enter site information manually.
Afterwards, be sure to export all your site definitions to a safe place.  Do it again if you make any changes.  I keep one set in my local site folders and another set on a removable flash drive.

  • Backing up and restoring site definitions

Losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver can be a disaster, but it does happen sometimes. The best way to prepare for such an eventuality is to back up your site definitions on a regular basis.
    Creating a backup
You can back up all your site definitions in a single operation by selecting Site > Manage Sites. In the dialog box that opens, Shift-click to select all site names, and then click Export.
In Dreamweaver CS6, the Manage Sites dialog box looks like this:
In earlier versions of Dreamweaver, it looks like this:
Dreamweaver asks if you want to include passwords and login details (this is the default option). Whichever option you choose will be applied to all sites, so click Cancel if you want to treat some sites separately, and export your sites in two sets by using Ctrl/Cmd-click to select them.
When you click OK, Dreamweaver asks where you want to export the definitions. Navigate to a suitable location, leave the File name field unchanged, and click Save. Although only one site name is listed in the File name field, Dreamweaver exports all the site definitions as .ste files in a single operation.
NOTE: This process backs up only the details of your sites, such as the location of the root folder, FTP details, and so on. It does not back up the actual files in your site, such as .html (or .php, .asp, .cfm) files, images, and style sheets. It's a good idea to use your normal file backup routine on your actual files from time to time, as well as exporting the site definitions.
    Restoring site definitions
In the event of losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver or moving to a new computer, open the Manage Sites dialog box, and use the Import button to navigate to your backup .ste files.
    What if I don't have a backup?
Often, if you don't have a backup of .ste files, you need to go through the whole process of re-entering the details for each site manually.
However, you might be able to restore them by using a restore point on Windows or Time Machine in Mac OS X.
On Windows, the site definitions for Dreamweaver CS6 are stored in the Windows Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common\12.0\Sites.
In Mac OS X, they are at Macintosh HD:<username>:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:12.0:Sites:Site Prefs.
In recent versions of Mac OS X, the Library folder is hidden. In the Mac Finder, select Go > Go to Folder, type ~/Library in the search field, and click Go.
Dreamweaver CS5.5 site definitions are in the same location, except use 11.5 instead of 12.0. The numbers for CS4 and CS3 are 10 and 9 (without a decimal fraction) respectively. For earlier versions of Dreamweaver, substitute Macromedia for Adobe, and adjust the number accordingly.
If you don't have a backup of the actual files on your site, download the files from your remote server.

    Hello,
We are running iPlanet 5.2 Messaging Server and need
to migrate to another (duplicate) 5.2 Messaging
Server. We have all the software installed and the
LDAP user accounts created. Now we just need to move
the existing mail from one server to the other.
I found the Backing Up and Restoring the Message
Store section in the Admin Guide says to back up and
restore your data, Messaging Server provides the
    imsbackup and imsrestore utilities.
However I am wondering about the Queue?
    Under <instance>/imta/queue
What is the difference between the Message Store
and the Queue? The Message Store is where messages get delivered to, so you can read them.'
The queue is where messages are temporarily stored, pending delivery to wherever they go.
You can use tar, cpio, or what have you for the queue. Stop the server first. . .
You then just restore the files to the new server. No need to restart or anything like that. Just dump the files in, and run
    imsimta cache -sync
to tell the MTA to re-read the queue.
Can I just backup and restore the
    Queue using tar or cpio?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Tim

  • Can I transfer site definitions from PC to Mac

More specifically, I have a registry export of all my site definitions from DW MX 2004 on a PC and I now have DW CS4 on a Mac. The registry export was the recommended way of exporting all sites in DW MX as it was only possible to export one site at a time using the export site tool. So I now have a file containing all my site definitions which I cannot use on a Mac.
Is there any tool to convert the registry data into .ste files so the sites can be imported on a Mac?

Mac isn't able to read Windows registry files as anything other than text.
If at all possible, I'd try to find a PC with DW and see if the registry files can be converted to .ste files.
CS4 on Mac will read the .ste and set all the site preferences.
I move my sites back and forth between a laptop (PC), a desktop (PC) and my MacBook all the time The easieat way to update my site cache is to reimport the .ste when I replace a site folder.

  • Recovery Site Definitions from old HD

I've old HD with dreamweaver mx 2004 installed and many sites
configurated. Now I'm using another HD with new installation of win
xp and new installation of Dreamweaver Mx 2004. I can't open my old
Windows with old Dreamweaver. I'm trying to import the old "Site
Configurations" on my new instalation of Dreamweaver.
    How can I do??

I'm not sure you can. The site definitions are kept in the
    Windows
Registry. If you cannot boot from the old drive, then you
    cannot get at the
    Registry.
The answer is to always export backups of your site
    definitions using either
the EXPORT feature in your Site Manager panel, or this
    excellent utility -

  • Failed to restore site collection from development server backup on production server

I get an error as below while restoring development site collection backup on production site collection.
    <nativehr>0x80070003</nativehr>
Looked into the log file shows below error.
"Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Schema version of backup 15.0.4641.1000 does not match current schema version 15.0.4569.1000"
However SP1 version installed on both server. Recently upgraded Development environment to 15.0.4571.1502 as production environment has exact same version. Run SharePoint Products Config Wizard successfully after upgrade on Development server.
    Any help.
    Thanks

    Hi Trevor
    Thanks for reply.
I am beginner in share point.
Getting below version in Development and Production Environment.
    In the beginning
Dev environment has 15.0.4615.1001. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
Production Environment has 15.0.4569.1506. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
So now both versions looks exactly same. But somewhere it didn't upgraded fully. Backup and Restore works in the same server If applied but doesn't
work if I apply from Dev to Production Version.

  • How to restore a site deleted from SharePoint Designer 2010

    Hi All,
I have opened a test server site in share point designer 2010, & deleted that particular site in SP designer 2010,can anyone let me know how to restore the site by using SharePoint Designer?
I followed below mentioned procedure to restore the site using SharePoint Designer
Open SharePoint Designer, File tab, Sites under File Tab, Open site, specified the URL of site,opened..
It is getting connected to the Organisation network & showing "path does not exist, check the path and try again".
Whether, Is it possible to restore the site deleted from share point designer in site collection recycle bin. or
Is it possible to copy the site from Production server to test server.
Waiting for an response at the earlier.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Badri

    Hi Badri,
1.You could not restore site deleted from SharePoint designer in site collection, you can only restore the site deleted from
UI in site collection recycle bin, deleted from end user recycle bin.
2.You can export the site from production server, then import it to test server.

  • Site definition not saved after closing DW

I moved my copy of DW to a new computer. I exported the site
definitions from the old computer and used the Import option in
Manage Sites to restore them on the new computer. It brought them
all over just fine. When I tried to update a site, though, it saved
it for the duration of the session then behaved as if it never
happened the next time I opened DW. This goes for site name
changes, FTP info, or anything. How can I fix this? Does it have to
do with a profile name? I have a different username on this new
computer if that has anything to do with it. Thanks

  • Dreamweaver CS6 will not recognize existing site definition files

Neither does CC, naturally.  These are sites I haven't edited for about a year. I can't find any information about reloading sites by importing the contents, only by opening the STE files... which in this case, won't open.

Are you attempting to simply open the .ste, or are you going to Site > Manage Sites > Import?
If you are tring to import them correctly (second option above) and they aren't importing, the .ste files may be corrupt. To create new site definitions from your existing content...
    1. Go to Site > New Site
    2. For the "Local Site Folder" browse to one of your current site folders on your HD
    3. Add a server and FTP credentials obtained from your hosting company (if you don't have them)
    4. Save
    5. Repeat for each site
EDIT: If you don't have the site's files locally, do the same as above (setting the local site folder to an empty folder on your HD) and, once you add the FTP info, click the Get button (down arrow) in the Files window to download your entire site onto your machine.

I have been attempting to use Business Catalyst but cannot get it to work with Dreamweaver CS6.
When I create or import a BC site the process gets stuck at "Retrieving site definition..". I thought it might take a while and left it overnight. When I woke up this morning it was still stuck.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

Are you attempting to simply open the .ste, or are you going to Site > Manage Sites > Import?

Is there a way to do this? I have the site definition
registry keys backed up for MX2004. Is there a way to load these
    all at once into CS4?
I appreciate any help you can give me!

    MX2004 didn't have this capability.

I wouldn't try this, as the key ID would be different.

  • TS1702 I just restored my iPhone from a backup, and 17 apps couldn't be restored because "the app could not be found."  But it's sitting right there in iTunes under Apps.  What's up with that?
