Restore tabs from .js file

I got tangled in the tabs manager and closed it... closing all my tabs. I have located js files "recovery.js"; "recovery.bak" and "previous.js". I copied the last session that I wanted to restore and renamed the file for the three types of files previously mentioned. I put the 3 new files in profile folder after I had logged out of Firefox. The previous session I was looking for was not restored.
I had had "restore previous session" checked but removed that designation before restarting. If I do "about:sessionrestore " it says there is nothing to restore, although the three files (recovery bak and js plus previous js) are in profile folder. Please advise.
Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I changed the name of the promising file (which has the desired yesterday's date on it) to sessionstore.js but the newer session of tabs opened. I think the old file is still ok but just not being opened.
It seems as if Firefox does not want to open that file. (It was not in the folder before... as i said, just *.bak and the 2 js files ("recover" and "previous").
I opened Firefox after the file had been renamed to sessionstore and got homepage. Then I went to History and Restore session. Is there another way to get Firefox to open sessionstore.js file?
Should I only have the desired sessionstore.js file in the sessionstorebackups folder? Could that be the problem (I have other files that have been renamed in it but don't think Firefox would open them?)
Thanks again.

  • When I close and reopen firefox, it restores my tabs, but it restores tabs from hours or days ago, not the ones that were open when I closed the window - why?

I normally keep my Firefox window open for long periods of time because I have a lot of active tabs. When I close the window and reopen it, I am still able to restore tabs, but as of a few weeks ago, it has stopped restoring the most recent version. Normally, when I would close and reopen, the tabs would be the same ones that were open when I closed the window. Now, it restores to a version from a few days ago instead of the current version. I have to revert to pulling my more recent tabs out of the recent history. I checked my options and I can't figure out any way to control this. How can I fix it so that I can count on my Firefox window to restore the tabs that I actually care about?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • How do I restore addresses from archive file or time machine without iCloud overriding?

I recently had an issue with my address book contacts.  About 90% of the contacts disappeared, then synched through iCloud to my iphone and ipad.....so nearly all my contacts were lost on all devices.  I have both time machine and an address book archive file.
When I tried restoring from time machine, the iCloud synching saw it as an older version of the file and went to the deleted contacts version....i.e. I was right back where I started.
When I tried importing from the address book archive, the same thing happened.....iCloud saw the imported version as an older copy of the contacts file and deleted out everything I had just imported.
The only way I was able to get the contacts back was to go to time machine (with address book application open), select all the contacts, copy them, cancel out of time machine, and then paste the contacts into the current version of address book.....I guess the system sees that as a "new" version of the contact and doesn't overrite it.  Problem is that it doesn't carry over all the different groups that way, and I have to move addresses into the groups all over again....kinda time consuming.
Any ideas on how to import from archive or restore from time machine (the normal way) without iCloud synching overriding the "older" and desired version of the file?  Address book doesn't have any option to "override current contacts with imported ones".....
    Thanks.

    Try this:
Turn off your internet connection completely: check it's really off.
Import your backup into Address Book.
    Select all your contacts.
From the File menu choose Export>vCard and save the file somewhere convenient.
Now turn the internet connection back on. Your contacts will disappear from Address Book again.
From the File menu choose 'Import' and select the file you exported to.
Hopefully this contacts list will stay in place: wait until it's synced to iCloud and check that it's on the website and syncs to your Phone.

  • Home Page Start-up restores tabs from not last session also.

My Home Page startup session is saved in the options preferences. But it isn't returning to my personalized default. It adds tabs from last session. I thought they were supposed to disappear. They have done that for years, but not now. Have you changed it? Should I be closing each unwanted tab before ending a session?

that didn't solve my problem, you gave me an incomplete search term; after browser.sessionstore, the strings of choices are much longer. Can you revisit the complete link so I can choose. Also, I think a long time ago, someone suggested something like that and it only worked for awhile. Is there something that resets the correct "false" to true?

  • 90% of pictures disappeared after new program. Time machine folders mostly empty. Downloaded my Carbonite file. Can I restore directly from this file or do I have to drag and drop 20,000 pix?

90% of pictures disappeared after adding Maverick. My Time Machine folders were in the right order but mostly empty so useless for restore. Repair and rebuild attempts were not effective. Downloaded my Carbonite file which is now sitting on my desktop. Is there any way to use the restore command to rebuild my portfolio or do I have to drag & drop approx 20,000 pictures? Can album groupings and faces be retained?

Do you still have the original library that was present at the time you upgraded to Mavericks?  If so apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I can't open tabs from the file menu or + sign. I have often used this feature. It just stopped today. Why?

Up until today, I could use my *new tab* feature. Suddenly, tonight it won't open a new tab.
    What could have happened?

I don't use the Ask Toolbar, but earlier today (or yesterday) it was *on* and de-selected it. What else do I have to do to *disable* it?
Also, when I go to safe mode in Firefox, the new tab feature works.

  • Restoring IPhoto from Mozy

I have a substantial IPhoto '08 library backed up on Mozy.com.  My hard drive crashed and, after replacement by Apple, I notice I now have IPhoto '09 installed.  I know Mozy has had problems with restoring metadata associated with IPhoto (they know it, too) but after lengthy discussions with Mozy personnel they assure me all metadata will be preserved during a restore if (and only if) I use the "Restore" tab from within the Mozy backup interface, as opposed to using any of the other available Mozy restore tools.  My entire IPhoto library shows up within the Mozy restore file structure as a single, very large file.  My question is this:  Where / what should I choose as the destination for the restore on this brand-new hard drive?
Thanks to all for any help or guidance.
    Ted

Does this restore import the photos into iPhoto or to some folder that you designate?  If it's the latter then you can have it restore the photos anywhere you'd like.
The reason that the iPhoto library shows up as a single file is that it is a Unix type folder like the packages used for applications.  It's not accessible via the Finder. Besides you would not want to restore the photos to somewhere inside the library.
Photos have to be imported for them to be recognized by iPhoto. With iPhoto 11 the only way to import the photos is to drop them onto the iPhoto application in the dock or into the open library window.
However you can create a folder with a folder action that will import all photos that are dropped into the folder into the iPhoto Library.  You create the folder action  with Automator.
Select the folder you want to apply this to with the drop down menu at the top.  Then save and you're ready to go.  If you want to keep a second copy of the photos you can uncheck the option to Delete the Source Images After Importing Them.
I don't know if this is what you want.  If your photos are grouped in Mosy somehow I would suggest you download them by group one at a time so you have individual events for each group.  Start out with just one group to make sure it works as we hope.  I don't know anything about Mosy so this is just a theorectical workflow.

  • I clicked a link in another program that opened a link in Firefox, but only that opened, not any of my 50 saved tabs from last session. What can I do?

So I clicked a link in a program that opened in Firefox. I had over 50 tabs from the course of a couple months I was saving, so "go back in your history" is not a practical option. I use the "Restore Tabs From Last Session" (or whatever the exact wording is) so I can just close and open and get all my tabs back. This time only this one link opened, nothing else did (like I remember it usually doing). How am I to restore that previous session? It's crucial for me to get all that stuff back, it drives me crazy when this happens (it's why I dropped Chrome and came here to Firefox, better memory management and less crashes).

    Restore your Previous Session
    *https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-previous-session
You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js or sessionstore.bak file. You need to rename the .bak file to .js to make Firefox see that session.

  • Why does "My Yahoo" open in a new tab [only after a restart of the system] when I open Firefox and my options are set to restore tabs?

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== recently...I usually only shut down for reboots.

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5 and later or [[Clearing private data|Clear Private Data]] in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • "Show my windows and tabs from last time" not working, Mac OS 10.6.4, FF 3.8.10 or FF 4 Beta 6

I have tried any number of times to get this to work, but it's still not working. On my other Mac with OS 10.6.4 and FF 3.6.8/10 the "show my windows and tabs from last time" is working just fine.
I have checked some of the settings in about:config per some of the other forum posts with resolution to this issue, but this hasn't worked for me. Especially Since some settings have changed in the more recent versions of FF.
I'm pretty sure my settings are correct. Is anyone else having this same issue?
On the Mac exhibiting the issue it prompts me if I want to close all open tabs when the red X is clicked, when I quit firefox it keeps my tabs open just fine when firefox starts up the next time. This is normal behavior, but when the feature in question is active it overrides this behavior, on my other mac, and just stores my last session so that when I open firefox all is as it was before it was closed (either closing it via quit or with the red X will do the trick).
On my new mac, the prompt to close open tabs never goes away and my tabs just vanish, whichever way I close firefox.
I hope that was clear enough. Thanks for any help.

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
