Restore to factory settings: will I lose the apps ?

Hi!
If I need to restore to the factory settings, will I lose the apps I have purchased? I can reload music and pics, but don't want to pay again for the few apps I got.
If I can back up, how do I do that?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Angelita

If they're only on the iPad, yes. Connect it to a computer and choose Transfer Purchases from the File menu in iTunes if needed first.

You don't need to pay for them again if you lose them as long as you're still able to log into the iTunes Store account used to purchase them.

Yes you will lose everything on your iPhone. You can, however, recover data from a backup done either with iCloud or iTunes. Do you have any backups?

It all depends on the definition of "factory unlocked". If the phone was purchased directly from Apple and the receipt says "Unlocked" then updating or restoring it will leave it unlocked (Apple never uses the term "factory unlocked" as there is no such thing; phones are unlocked at activation time). Similarly, if it had been locked to a carrier and the carrier authorized it to be unlocked, and you went through the unlocking steps they provided, it is permanently unlocked.
Unfortunately, a lot of the phones sold as "factory unlocked" were actually unlocked by hacking in the "factory" in the basement of some shop somewhere. These phones at best will become locked to the original carrier if restored, and in the worst case will be permanently disabled if restored.

  • Ipad Restore: If I restore to factory settings do I lose my game data?

I was having some issues with my iPad. The keyboard was slow and sometimes non-responsive. I have found a temperary fix but would like my iPad to be back to normal (or more so then now). I went to simply computing and was told to try restoring to factory settings. Needless to say I forgot to ask what would happen to my data. If I restore my iPad to factory settings will I lose my game data? Will I have to start all over on my games? I have been playing some games for about a year and really don't want to have to start from the beginning... Please any information will help.

No. Restoring your phone does not affect whether your service is active or not.

  • I have just purchased ipad3 and thought I was restoring from my iPad2 but accidentally restored my husbands if I delete everything and restore to factory settings will it affect his iPad?

I have just purchased a new ipad3 but when setting up I thought I was restoring from my iPad2  but unfortunately I accidentally restored my husbands instead! If I restore factory settings will this affect my husbands iPad? Just wondered as when he set up his iPad he deleted all my contacts thanks

Go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  This should make the iPad act like a new one, and give you another chance to restore from your old iPad 2's backup.
There should be no affect on your husband's iPad if your iPad 2 had no affect on it.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare (or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • If I restore my iPod to factory settings, will I lose my music that has been added from other computers, even if I've backed up my iPod?

I'm trying to clean out my iTunes and iPod, and in doing so I've realized that I have over a gig of "other" material taking up space on my iPod.  One solution I was told about was to restore my iPod back to it's facotry settings (after you've backed it up) in order to help eliminate or help make the "other" section take up less space.  I'm worried about doing this however seeing as my iPod has music from three or four other computers on it seeing as I manually sync music to my ipod rather than have it sync on it's own.  I'm worried that even if I back the iPod Touch on my computer, that all the other music from the three or four other computers and iTunes' will be erased and only music left on my iTunes, on my laptop will be left over after words.  This wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't have litterally THOUSANDS of music to sort through between these four computers.
Also, does anyone have any other solutions on how to reduce the amount that "other" takes up on your iPod?  Thanks in advance!  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if you will loose your music or not, but I have a suggestion. If you sinc your ipod to your itunes, all the music from it should transfer to your itunes, it shouldn't matter whether it was downloaded on that computer or not. If you do this and then restore your ipod to factory settings and you do loose your music, then you can just sinc your ipod to your computer, or itunes account and then you will get your music back. I hope this helps. :)

  • If i restore to factory settings will i loose all the data in my iTunes on the computer as well?

i was in the middle of doing the software upgrade when my internet cut out. the pone and itunes froze at the stage they were at. i have tried rebooting the iphone but it keeps telling me to conect to itunes and itunes is sayin i need to restore to factory. i backed it up before i started but will restoring it make me lose everything or should it be safe because of the backup? i dont know what to do

    Hello!
If you 'backed up' and 'synced' all your data before starting you don't have to worry. You can go to Edit->Preferences->Devices in iTunes to see the backup you made.
After you have factory restored, you can read up http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 for help on how to restore from your backup, or search Google!
If you find your backup in iTunes, you're completely safe!

  • HT1766 I have an i pod classic... tonight I went to sync some new music on it before going to the gym and it said it did not  my mac computer did not recognize my  classic and that it needed to be restored to factory settings.. What the heck??

I HAVE AN IPOD CLASSIC , I WENT TO SYNC SOME NEW MUSIC ON IT AND MY MAC COMPUTER ON ITUNES SAID IT DID NOT RECONIZE MY CLASSIC . I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. WHY IS IT ASKING ME TO RESTORE IT TO FACTORY SETTINGS . THEN IT SAYS I WILL LOSE ALL MY MUSIC AND VIDEO'S . WHAT DO I DO??

You do what it says. Your iPod encounterd an error and y have to restore the iPod. That happens sometimes..
Just resync your media to the iPod after restoring.
If necessarey, you can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I also requested your post be moved to the iPod Classic forum

  • My sons wish to set up their own accounts - Will they lose the apps they purchased under my account?

My sons wish to set up their own accounts - Will they lose access to the apps they purchased under my account?  Is there anyway to transfer the apps to their accounts?

You can't. Apps and content are tied permanently to the iTunes Store account through which they were purchased. Her MBA will need to be authorized to your iTunes Store account and she'll need that account information to be able to update the apps and re-download content, or they'll need to be repurchased through her iTunes Store account.

  • HT2471 How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose the apps that came with this Mac Book when I recover it?

How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose apps that came with the Mac Book if I recover it?

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook.  Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.
    good luck

Rebooting ( or a simple reset) will delete you apps or any data on the device.
I think you mean  *will NOT* ...
In any case, no. A standard reset by holding donw the home and power/sleep buttons will not delete any Apps or data.
