IIf, as media - NPR - is reporting that
Apple is telling iPhone 6 owners to "restore iOS 7.1.2 on thier phones...
is there a way for that to be done on my iPad,
so as to retrieve iPhotos, and the work I have saved in that app?

You do not understand Niel's answer?
You can't.
And currently, Apple is only allowing iPhone 6 users to, officially, downgrade back to the original iOS 8.0.
Not iPad users.
Apple is NOT restoring iOS 7.1.2 to their servers, so there is no way to downgrade your iPad.

I dont want to upgrade my other iPhone4 to iOS7. One phone has become crap already with iOS7. I tried to restore my iOS7 backup to this other iPh running iOS6 and it does not allow me to do it (due to OS version compatibility). Fair enough ! So is there a way I can just get my iMessage to be backed up? I don't care too much about the apps, I can download them again.
Also what happens to games? I am hoping game updates are handled through game center and would automatically be up to date and not rely on my phone back up. Any thoughts?
I have already backed up my photos to the computer. So no worries on that front.

I waited until about a month ago to upgrade to iOS7. The only reason I did it was I had a corrupt back up that consumed 3GB worth of "other". Now I feel that is nothing compared to the crappy performance of iPhone4 on iOS7.
So I decided to lose 1month worth of iMessages and game progresses for my last iOS6 backup. I dont regret it at all. Now all happy.

Backing Up and Restoring an IOS7 iPad to IOS6 iPad

My mother had an IOS6 iPad which was accidently updated to IOS7 by a family member and my mother can no longer use it due to the new layout. My wife still has IOS6 on her iPad so has agreed to swap with my mother. If I back up my mothers data from the IOS7 iPad using iCloud and then reinstall it to my wife's IOS6 iPad will it also wipe out IOS6 and replace it with IOS7?

If you use iTunes to restore an iPad currently under an older iOS version and the iPad is qualified to run the newest available iOS version, the iPad will be updated to the *newest iOS version*.
However, if your reset the iPad on the iPad itself (under Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings), it will remain at it's currently installed iOS version.

Hi all I have just replaced my wife's broken Ipad2 with a replacement Ipad2 from our local Apple Store. The new IPad 2 came with IOS 6.3 but the old backup was in IOS7.4 I have set up the new iPad with Ios7.4 as in its native state it wouldn't restore the backup as it said it needed to be iOS 7.4 to restore so I had no choice other than set it up as a new iPad My question is ...How do I restore the old back up? Now that I have the correct operating system in place.

Set up the new one as new. Give it a new name, any random name. then go into the settings, erase all content and settings, then restore it from the backup of your old one.
basically set it up as new long enough to update the iOS, then put your backup on it.

How to restore an ios7 back up to a replacement with ios6?

The battery burst on my 5th gen iPod touch. The replacement comes with ios6, which will not allow me to restore from an ios7 back up. When I set it up as a new iPod, it will not give the option to restore that back up I had made, seems to have already decided it is a registered as a different iPod. But it did let me restore from a 4th gen iPod I have, but that does not help me.

All you can do is try to "extract" data from the iPod backup that iTunes made of the 5G iPod.

I just updated my iPad to ios7, did restart and restore and now I cannot get past the welcome screen. It keeps asking me to restore from backup, which I have done repeatedly. My computer shows my iPad as having everything restored, but the iPad does not. HELP!!!!!

just updated my iPad and plugged it into iMac/iTunes - now I have an error from iTUnes saying that iPad is in 'restore mode'
the ipad is not starting and just shows a diagram stating plug into itunes.

Try going to setting to General to reset to network settings.
Once you have reset network settings you will then need to have your device find the wifi connection once found you will then need to provide for the wifi password

Loss of sound after installing ios7

Hi. I had an issue with sound on my iPhone 4S before ios7. When low on battery it would stop playing sounds and keyboard clicks. I know its not a hardware problem, as with full battery, it was absolutely fine. I installed ios7 hoping that the issue would be sorted out, but its now worse - no sound at all. Again, I know its not faulty speakers, because if I go into Settings > General > Sounds, I can slide the volume slider for ringtone back and forth and it will play my ringtone!
How do I get this sorted?

I have this issue on iPad after IOS7. Spread the word, it's an issue. Have spent hours on the phone to Support and no result after back up and restore. IOS7 is the problem for sure. My iPad still gives sample sounds if I change Settings, they have conceded it does not therefore look like a hardware issue. Get momentum on this, or they will keep telling us to do resets or change the mute/screen lock options. More people need to get on this one or it will disappear.

You cannot "restore" iOS 7.0.4 as a new device through iTunes as the newest iOS version that your iPhone qualifies for (currently iOS 8.1.2) will be downloaded and installed.
You can do virtually the same thing from your device itself without having a forced iOS update if you do the following on the device:
Go to Settings/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings
If you wish to make a backup before performing this operation, go ahead and do so.
This will wipe out all user data/apps/media/music/etc and will return the device to a clean state without updating the iOS...your device will remain at the iOS version that it is currently on. If you want to restore from a backup later (however, it sounds like you do not want to), you can do so after the "Erase All Content and Settings" is completed and the iPad is being set up as a new device. Otherwise, just proceed with setting up the device from scratch.
