Restore to (original) Back Up

In preparing myself for an iOS upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4, I backed up my iPhone and then restored it, planning on restoring to back up. The reason I did this was because every time I tried to upgrade to OS 4, iTunes would say your version of iTunes (9.1.1) is up to date. I went to Apple's site and realized iTunes was outdated and I installed 9.2. In doing so, I understood I couldn't upgrade to iOS 4 because of iTunes 9.1.1, so I selected restore to back up. I checked my phone afterward just to be sure, and all my information was gone. I'm guessing in upgrading iTunes to 9.2, it automatically did a back up of my now restored phone. I can't find my original back up before iTunes 9.2, and I'm very irritated because I have yet to find a way to restore to my first back up (which was done around 1:00 am this morning). Is there any way to find the original back up and restore to it?

I tried but I cannot get the name of the back-up i had it in.  I updated it as a new phone rather than the original name...does this make sense...so i lost my pix and contacts...

    Hi cfgolf,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities. I agree with your assessment that something is going on with that previous backup. If you restored from that backup and the issue continues, I would recommend restoring and Set up as new. Before you restore, make sure you Transfer content so that you can sync it back after setting up as new. The instructions on how to Transfer content and Set up as new are both listed in this article.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4137
    2. Transfer content
Before you erase your device, take a few minutes to transfer your content from your device to your computer to ensure that all your critical data is safe.
    6. Set up as new
Complete the setup assistant. When prompted to set up your device, select Set Up as New iPhone and tap Next to continue.
Skip the Apple ID sign-in, in case the original issue was related to any of your content on iCloud.
Note: After setting up as new, you will need to enter the Visual Voicemail password for iPhone (on carriers that support Visual Voicemail). If you've forgotten the password, contact your carrier to help you reset it.
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.
    Cheers,
    -Joe

You can download everything you purchased from the iTunes Store without having to pay again:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Here is the procedure for your reference, using iTunes 10.7. The procedure and screenshots for newer versions are contained in the above link.
This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.

  • HT201250 Will using AirPort Utility to "restore to original settings" make you have to re-back up your computer's files on a Time Capsule?

The advantage is CCC has built in routines that "bless" (see the Terminal.app command "bless") the
os x installation so it will boot properly on the new volume it is being installed on.
Disk Utility simply copies (restores) files from one volume to another. Many times this works just fine.
Sometimes it won't boot afterwards. Most of the time (as long as there are no system files missing
or corrupted) a person may "bless" the drive and restore it to working condition.
CCC is not a "magical" application, it is in fact a front end to applications that already exist separately
in OS X (asr, hdiutil, diskutil, bless, etc.).
It doesn't matter to me how you do it. It's your time not mine. Everyone should spend some time
behind the command line in terminal. I do many tasks using the command line, including and not
limited to complete system restores, backing up data, disk partitioning, installing software, disk
repair, permissions repair, ACL management, restoring data, managing disk images, network
management, user management, file management, etc. Many people are fearful of the command
line. I feel just the opposite, I'm fearful without it.

  • While updating software on my iPod touch 4 my computerswitched itself off and now iTunes is asking me to restore to original settings but there are photos on my iPod that have not been backed up. Am I going to lose them?

While updating software on my iPod touch my computer switched itself off and now iTunes is asking me to restore to original settings. I have photos on my iPod that were not backed up so will I lose them if I resore to original settings? If so is there any way I can get them back?

After you restore to factory settings/new iPod you can restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    That is your only choice

  • How can I restore mac pro back to original with snow leopard

I want to restore my macpro back to original, I dont have restore disk, just snow leopard disk. How can I do this?  Thanks

A nice phone call to Apple usually results in a replacement disk being sent to you.
I understand your intention is to give this computer away. If you were selling it, not having the original install disks dramatically lowers its value.

  • How do I restore an image back to its original form?

Is Aperture 3 supposed to be non-destructive? If so, how do I restore an image back to its original form? I'm out of undo's and I need to get rid of some stuff.

You have a few choices here
    1. The "m" key will show you the master image without adjustments, not remove them;
    2. Right click an image and using the contextual menu, select reset all adjustments, removes them;
    3. Same menu, create new version, allows you to have multiple versions each with unique adjustments, B&W, cropping etc.

  • Restoring photo resolution back to original size on iphoto '11

I transferred photos from old IMAC to new one and some of the photos have very small resolution and I cannot edit in Aperture. How to restore to origina res

How did you transfer the photos?  If you imported a library from the old iMac into a library on the new one that was NOT the way to do it.  All you need to do is copy, i.e. drag, the library from the old iMac into the Pictures folder on the new iMac.  Then launch iPhoto and let  it open your library.
So if you still have the old iMac and it's library do what I described above after moving the  library on the new iMac to the Trash bin.

  • Original back up data in different location

My wife backed her iphone up for the first time on a pc I already use for my iphone. Forgot to untick box syncing all contacts with outlook and therefore has lost pretty much all her phone numbers. I presume they're all in the back up file, but when I go to C:\....\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup the original back up file is not there (all later times when we synced again). After a bit of digging I've found a folder C:\....\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups\329440RZY7H\Structured which has loads of MDINFO and MDDATA files which were created at the time of the original backup.
I may be clutching at straws, but is this the original back up data that would contain all of the old phone numbers? If so how do I get the information to the correct location for iTunes to recognise it when I go to the Restore from back up option in Itunes?
    Any advise greatfully received, Phil

    Welcome to the discussions,
Every backup you make replaces the old one, so if you synced after that, your contact info is gone as well, because at that time your contacts were already damaged.
The only time a backup is not replaced is when it was used to restore your ipod, this backup will also show a time stamp.
All available backups are listed in iTunes/settings/devices. More info about backups, their content, location on your computer and much more can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

My toolbars are mostly empty. What happened? How do I restore the original settings?

    * If, on Windows, in Firefox 3.6 the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down or press F10, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click on it to make that permanent. See [[Menu bar is missing]]).
    * Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
    * If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to one of the toolbars.
    * If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • I was trying to sync my iPhone 3GS and it is now stuck, saying I'm in recovery mode.  I am thoroughly confused now after researching online.  I'm scared to restore to original settings as I don't want to lose everything, apps, contacts, etc. Help!

I was trying to sync my iPhone 3GS and it is now stuck, saying I'm in recovery mode.  I am thoroughly confused now after researching online.  I'm scared to restore to original settings as I don't want to lose everything, apps, contacts, etc. Help!  Is there a way to get it all back if I do restore?? Can I my stuff back through iCloud??

Bad news first and we hope for good news as well
The device is in Recovery Mode and the data has already been deleted, you need to restore the device with iTunes in order to get the iPhone back into a working state
When the iPhone is restored you can then restore it from your latest backup using iTunes or iCloud and regain some, if not all, of your data.
The good news part only happens if you had a backup.

  • HP Pavillion laptop shuts down even I restore the original or factory setting

Please help because I've been experiencing shutting down of my laptop without any reason. It turn-out into a blue screen with some error regarding incomptibility with the system. I restore its original settings but still after 5 minutes, its shuts down. It is less than 1 year old laptop and I use it twice a week during weekends.  Battery is not the problem and overheating is not also the reason because sometimes in less than 5 minutes after opening, its shuts down itself. Hope you could help me to fix it.
    This question was solved.

    Hello Cirssy,
Your computer is shutting down in its own.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If it is still under a year old i give HP a call while everything is still under warranty.
Here is a link to a phone number to call HP.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • Restoring to original settings

Please see my other discussion regarding recovery mode
However, if I restore to original settings it then gives me the warning about going back to factory settings - Does this mean I will ose everything I have previously backed up?
    Thanks in advance

As was mentioned. If you have made a back up of your phone there is no need to worry about losing your data. Make sure you transfer all your purchased apps or any purchased contents that you downloaded from your iphone. If you don't transfer them, you won't get them back when you restore from back up.

  • Camera Roll not restoring from iCloud back-up

Due to an extremely large amount of "other" on my iPhone 5 I decided to reset / delete and restore from iCloud. Camera roll IS turned on in my cloud back-up, and I backed it up just before reset / delete phone.
When I restore from iCloud back-up everything works perfectly except my camera roll reloading. It just continues to say 'Downloading" (with the little circle thing going round & round) with no change or progress. It never says "downloadng xx of xxx" or anything like that. The photo stream has restored with no problem.
I hope I can restore the camera roll because it has videos that aren't saved anywhere else, but if not how the heck do I stop the "downloading..." at the bottom of the camera roll folder and get on with my life? Any help will be much appreciated.

Actually I posted here only after trying ezjules suggestions  No luck.  Even stranger is that even after I "stopped restoring" my camera roll is acting the same,; still says Downloading at the bottom. Strange.. Here is a screen shot after I have stopped the restore in settings.
