Restore to original settings before it can be used in itunes
Half way through an update it says itunes has detected an iphone on recovery mode. you must restore iphone to original settings for it to be used in itunes. will i lose everything?
If you have sync'd the iphone with itunes in the past then it will restore your phone to a default iOS6 and then chuck all your apps and pictures back on your phone that were on your phone when you last synced it. It'll bring the messages back too.
If you've been using iCloud, use iTune to blast iOS 6 on your phone and do an iCloud restore when you get the phone up and running. The level of recovery is a bit more dependant on what options you turned on/off when you did the phone backups.
If you've done neither iTunes or iCloud backups then, I'm sorry to say, you're S.O.L.

Is the device actually in recovery mode? What is showing on the display?
If it's the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then the information is already lost.
If you've forced the device in DFU mode... reboot it and simply sync with the computer. -
ok, so i finally found my ipod. I pick it up and it asks me if i would like to download the latest ios6 software so i did. Then moments later it died, ran out of battery. After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod.... -
I have windows 8 enterprise OS and iTunes ver. 10.5.0.142. I was upgrading my iPad to IOS 6.1.3. After finishing the upgrade my iPad Reboot and currently stucked-up in a plug-in screen and iTunes Logo. When I try to connect it to the iTunes pop-up message appear saying " iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes." In short, I push the restore button then another pop-up message appear saying " The iPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." I tried many ways but still no luck. I repeatedly reboot the iPad and open the iTunes still the same problem. I try also to uninstall the iTunes and installed the lower version but still the same problem, I even check the firewall if the ITunes was block or My privileges is administrator to run the iTunes or even reset my winsock but the problem still remain. When performing the new iPhone(IOS6) update I received an error message - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. Will I lose everything if it goes back to factory settings. Right now my phone wont do anything. It is just showing a cable, an arrow and the iTunes logo.

You should have made sure that everything was on your computer bef ore updating anyway. Did you fail to do that?
All pics taken with iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc. Did you fail to do that? -

Where, exactly did you get this phone? If it's already in a state where it says it must be restored, you don't have a choice. If the phone was hacked, it will be re-locked to the network it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can legitimately authorize unlocking the phone. -
I had some new albums I bogut from Itunes and wanted to put them on my Ipod Touch. Went to do that, ITunes said there was an update. I downloaded the update and then I couldn't see anything in my Ipod nor listen to anything. The screen of my Ipod shows a USB cable pointing to Itunes and when I plug it into ITunes again I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." And the ONLY option it gives me is to restore my IPod to factory settings. I looked online for answers but all I see are people having problems with this because they bricked their phone, which I haven't ever done or even know how to do. Would appreciate some help, planned on spending my day off listening to my new albums.

I downloaded the update because why not. I then turned my iPad on and get the iTunes logo and a lightning cable picture. I plugged the ipad into my computer and opened iTunes.
The I got:
"iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes"
When I click restore it then says:

I don't want to lose my media. I was never told to make a back up, I was never told the update would be this difficult.

I've tried disabling my security software, updating iTunes, replacing my hosts file and using a third party software recovery tool. Nothing works. I never thought Apple would break my iPad with an update but they managed to.

Went on a Vegas trip on Sept
11th. My iPad worked fine
before getting on the plane. In the hotel about 48hrs later I opened my iPad it
read the message: “iPad is disabled,
connect to iTunes.”
To my knowledge myself, nor anyone else has tried to access my device or
entered the password incorrectly 3 or more times.
I started by updating my iTunes account on my computer to the latest version.
Then multiple times I attempted
the “Use recovery mode”
steps.
e.g.
1. Turn off your device and leave it off.
2. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
3. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB
cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes
screen.
I received the message on my computer saying “iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.”
I click the “Restore iPad” button.
During which time the progress bar on my computer’s iTunes
screen was moving very slowly and other times seemed like it wasn’t moving at
all. I would leave my two devices and attached by the cable and upon returning
I would find that the process would have ended before it had completed.
Initially I thought it was a connections issue because I was in remote
locations with slow internet servers. Since being home I have re-attempted the
process and have been able to fully complete the forced recovery but I will
receive a message saying:
“The iPad could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.”
What recycle bin is the message referring to? Obviously I CANNOT access any
data on the iPad itself. Just for the **** of it, I did empty my computers
recycle bin and re-attempted the forced recovery process but as I suspected it
did nothing for the iPad and I still received the same message: “The iPad
could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to …”

During recovery on iPhone 4 I got : The iPhone could not be restored. Un unknown error occurred ( 3004 ). Then - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.Then I get error 3004 again. Latest iTunes and OS updates. I cant use the phone now. It also happened to me. What I did was to put my USB connector at the back of my PC (the main USB port) then I open my iTunes again and Viola, it solves my problem.

i was downloading the latest software upgrade when the message "Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used with Itunes" came up. My option of I phone recovery mode says that it will restore the Iphone to factory mode losing all information.
