Restore UCM 9.1.2

Dear Friends,
I want to rebuild the complet host (UCS 220M3) considering UCM. Can I do a backup using veeam backup or data protector software on vmware in order to rebuild my UCM too. I just did an export to OVA by deploy and it failed. Can I monitor my UCM by Zabbix software?
I have a UCM 9.1.2 on vmware.
Thanks in advance,
Claudio Quiroz C - Latam

Officially we only support DRS, you could simply copy the files from your CUCM out of the server and then place them back once you rebuild your ESXi, I need it to be completely clear that although that method would work, is not officially supported by Cisco. It would be the equivalent of a cold migration from a server to another without vCenter.

  • Application ADF load very slow

    Dear all.
My team build a backup server for oracle portal and oracle center content version 11.1.1.6.
I restored UCM server normal, configuration and index.
But application load very slow, 2 minutes. In original server is 15 second.
I see log when i restore error in index. Indexing database too slow 4-5h.
I expdp normal with no error
Does anyone kind to help me to solve this? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

I use iSquint to compress the video. Have a look at this site to see my dv project that was 286mb original size, compressed down to 4.8mb. http://web.mac.com/lfairlie/iWeb/Site%204/Welcome.html
You can play with the size it compresses to quality wise as well.

  • Ucm backup-archive-restore strategy

    hi fellow oracle-stellent users,
i wanna ask what's the best practice strategy for
backup and restore of an ucm server: content, metadata, and configs.
i'm in the middle of reading the docs (10gR3), but
still confused about many components that must be used for backup/restore strategy:
    -config manager utility (cmu)
    -archiver applet
    -folder archiver (folders_g feature)
    -folder structure archive (component)
can someone provide me with best practice strategy for backup/restore, how to achieve
that using that components above (or are there another app/component). is there
a rule of thumb or guidance for backup/restore?
oh, and i recently read the sysmigration guide, about the archiver, and it says
"Caution: Do not use Archiver as your primary method of disaster recovery; use standard
backup systems for the database and file system."
what does that mean ? isnt cmu+archiver is the primary method for archiving ?
and what does it mean by "standard
backup systems for the database and file system", is it described somewhere in the docs?
what is the steps for doing that?
    thank you in advance.

    Hey coolpie,
Most trusted method for backup-restore is file system back of the UCM installation directory and the database backups. The tools that you mentioned are used for migration from one environment to another, but they are not preferred for backup and restored.
If the number of items in you UCM is small then you may get away with using tools you mentioned. But in case of UCM with huge number its a big no.
I think any DBA, SA would be able to give you steps required for "standard backup systems for the database and file system".
    cheers,
    sapan

  • Get native file in ucm (ucm and terastack solution working together)

    Hi,
We use oracle universal content management server (ucm). A lot of files are stored on the hard disk of the system using this content management system. Now we are using Terastack Solution (http://www.hie-electronics.com/) to create backup of the data. The TeraStack Solution is an optical data storage system designed and manufactured to improve performance through affordable and reliable data storage management. Terastack solution archives (writes) all files to dvds and then a module of it truncates all these files to zero byte in size to save disk space. Now terastack solution watches all archived files. If an application tries to open such a file, it intercepts this, blocks this request, then restores the file from the dvd. During this process calling application just waits for the file to open. After restoring terastack solution sends a signal to the calling application, and the file with full contents is opened in the application.
    Now here is the problem:
Files are check-in oracle content server. Terastack solution has burned these files to dvd and made these files to zero byte in size. Now when we click a link in content server to get a checked-in file (native file), terastack solution intercepts it, restore the file from dvd, then an open/save dialog box open to either open or save the file to a location. We save the file to a folder, open this file and come to know that there is no content in the file. It is still a zero byte file.
When we checked the file at original location (remember ucm stores files in vault folder), we came to know that file is actually restored successfully by the terastack solution but the content server returned a zero byte file. When we click the link for the same file again to get native file in ucm then we get a fully restored file. i.e. on the first try to get native file we get a zero byte file although it is restored by terastack solution successfully. And on the second try we get file with full contents. On the second try, file has already been restored by terastack solution during the first try and terastack solution ignores files greater than zero byte in size, that’s why client gets a correct file on second try. Having size greater than zero means file is already restored.
The link in ucm that is used to get native file does not point directly to the desired file. It calls some code in ucm that transmit the required file back to the client. Something like this:
    http://localhost/idc/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dID=11&dDocName=test_06&allowInterrupt=1
I think what is going on here is, when we click on a link to get native file that is zero byte in size, content server creates a response for the file, append the size of the file (currently zero) to the header of the response along with other info, and then tries to transmit the file to the client. At this point, terastack solution intercept the request and restore the file. After restoring terastack solution send signal to calling application that file is restored. But the server has already created request for the file and it is not updated during or after the restore, that’s why client gets zero byte file.
What I want is somehow force the content server to wait until file is fully restored by terastack solution and then transmit the fully restored file to client. Is there any configuration setting for ucm that will achieve the goal?
Any setting in bin/intradoc.cfg or config/config.cfg or something else?
    Need help.
    Environment:
    OS: Windows XP SP3
Content Server 10gR3 (Deployed to: IIS, JDK used: v1.5)
    TeraStack Solution (Deployed to: JBoss)

Thank you for your reply. Although the links to weblayout version of files works perfectly with terastack, but we want to take backup of files in vault folder. Is it possible to change the links that are use to get native file? Can we somehow make these links to directly point to vault files? If yes please tell us how.
A custom java service to download the native file can also work. Can you please give us a sample code and how to implement it in ucm?
Please provide one of the solutions. I’m a new comer to ucm, so please provide instructions in more details.
BTW, I tested the restoration of file using a test dotnet web application. I added code that downloaded a user selected file to the client. The code we used is as under:
    1. FileInfo fi = new FileInfo(filepath);
    2. Response.Clear();
    3. Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fi.Name);
    4. Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fi.Length.ToString());
    5. Response.ContentType = GetFileContentType(fi.Extension);
    6. Response.TransmitFile(fi.FullName);
    7. Response.End();
GetFileContentType() function is a simple function to get content type of a file type.
Line#4 is important here. A file is zero byte in size when a request to download a file is received by the server, and the server just appends content-length=0 in the header. So even the file is restored by the terastack afterwards, client still receives a zero byte file. At this stage our test application has the same problem, not getting a native file with full contents.
We removed line# 4 and tried again to download a file thru our test web application. This time client got file with full contents after the file is restored. So we think this Content-Length header is the one that needs to be handled.
You may find this information useful if you decide to build a java service solution.

  • UCM version upgrade and failover

I'm new to the company, and I currently have a Cisco MCS 7828-H3 running UCM 6.1.1 with Unity connection 2.1.1.  We had a psu go faulty on the MCS which killed the phone systems for a day, and had everyone going crazy.  I figure best bet is just to buy a backup MCS off of ebay, and run it in some kind of failover config.  I was also looking to upgrade to some of the newer versions.  Looking at the version compatibility chart, 6.1.1 isn't even shown as compatible with my server, so I'm not sure how that worked out. The newest 8.6 is indeed compatible, but I was wondering how licensing works on this device?  Does smartnet cover the upgrade for going from 6.1 to 8.6?  Also, I see two machines on ebay (one of which looks beefier), but the compatibility chart doesn't show them as being compatible.  Will I still be able to upgrade them to the same versions?  How does failover work with this system.  I really don't want to have to bother with getting any new licensing for the backup server since it will just be there in the case of an emergency (1 day every couple of years).

If a model does not show up try looking here:
Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers
    Solution Overviews
If it's not the same HW most likely you won't be able to install it and won't be supported if you manage to install it but the specs do not match what is on the link.
As far a failover it's either you buy another node license and create a subscriber (which will be seamless failover for users) or you backup your config daily and when your PUB crashes you take that config and load it into the other server which will be running the exact same version as the production PUB and you also need to reach licensing in order for them to rehost the licenses from one server to the other. Obviusly the 2nd option means you'll be without phone services until you restore your config on the other server and get the licenses.

  • Export and Import Users in UCM

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to move all users, alias and role definitions from one ucm to another ucm?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
If you don't have user accounts defined in LDAP, you can try to use Archiver tool for copying local users.
Although Archiver was not created for this purpose, it has an option "Export user configuration information". I used it once in on my test system and it worked, but it was not the case of migrating data but restoring previous state of the system (this shouldn't be problem as the Archiver export bundles can be imported on another UCMs). I created export definition that exports no content, just users.
Try this, but test it twice or more before using on production system.
    Good luck!

  • Oracle UCM Production instance

we are proposing the oracle UCM 11g Solution to one of my client,
here i have doubt about the list of products, please correct us?
    1) Oracle Database
    2) Oracle Weblogic Server
    3) Oracle UCM
    4) Oracle HTTP Server???????????? is this required?
and we are giving the solution architecture to the client? please guide me if you have any suggestions regarding this
and Hardware requirements for this also suggest me?
we are implementing the UCM for the first time............
    Thanks for your time....

Weblogic Server is a part of Oracle UCM license - in the restricted mode to host UCM (you will need it for 11g, as it is a J2EE application). So, unless you want to use it for other apps as well, it is not needed. HTTP Server is definitely not needed - Weblogic Server should contain a web server, if you need one, or you can go with another web server like Apache.
As for the solution architecture, it quite a subtle art and as you give absolutely no details, I'm afraid it is quite difficult to answer anything. You can start with sizing - product management released (alas, internally) a sizing tool, which can answer you a question how many CPUs of UCM (application server layer) are needed. It is based on the number of concurrent users and workload they produce (GUI, search/document retrieve, checkins, conversions to PDF, conversions to multimedia formats). Once you have this, you need to consider high-availability (a cluster in one location) and disaster recovery (backup-restore or even geo clustering). There is no formula to give you the right answer, but if you require HA, you might need RAC (Real Application Clusters) at the DB layer - app layer might be cluster by Weblogic and you might also need a load balancer. For DR, you might use database options (partitioning, DataGuard). Do not forget to consider the storage (even under database)! Especially, for large storage requirements (hundreds of TB and more) it can make your project much cheaper if you use the correct storage policy (using database ASM or HSM of filesystems such as ZFS or QFS).
Recommended HW - especially, if you need clustering, go with installation on Linux or Solaris. This will most likely lead to servers on Intel. You may go with any almost any proposal by a HW vendor of that kind (Sun Fire or blades). Just put there enough memory (12 GB at least per 2 cores of CPU). For multicore and multiprocessor servers, use Oracle VM or Solaris Zones to scale to your required number of CPUs of UCM and database (a rule of thumb: you will need half to two thirds CPUs of database compared to the number of UCM's CPUs).
However, keep in mind you might need to fine tune the generic architecture to your client's needs (e.g if you have heavy conversions)

  • Database options under UCM

With regard to this thread: Few interesting facts about database under UCM 10g what Oracle database options can be effectively used under UCM? The comprehensive overview of the options can be obtained here: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/index.html
Real Application Clusters* - this option can be used to increase the database performance and availability. It is fully transparent to applications.
Partitioning* - this option can affect performance, enable hierarchical storage management (using cheaper hardware to store large amount of data) and help with disaster recovery (backup/restore). I believe, if documents are stored in the database, this option is a must. Even if a project does not use HSM, partitioning of large tables such as FILESTORAGE will enable: a) faster backups - once a partition is "closed", it will not change - therefore, future backups can work only with "open" partitions and unpartitioned data; b) faster restores - large tables can only be partially restored - e.g. few "last months" and the system can be running whilst restoring the remaining data. Watch out for partitioning of metadata tables, though (DOCMETA, REVISIONS, DOCUMENTS)! At least, there are no clear criteria how these tables should be partitioned - and various checks and validations may actually require to have those tables restored fully before you may perform such basic operations like check-in.
Advance Security* and Database Vault* - these options may increase security, when content is stored in the database (no one, not even administrators might be able to reach the content unless authorized). The only drawback to that is that even if content is stored in the database, in initial phases it is anyway stored in the filesystem (vault), too, and the minimum retention period is 1 day
I will also mention two options that might look appetizing, but UCM probably does not benefit from them too much:
Advanced Compression* - compresses data in the database. This, and Hybric Columnar Compression used in Exadata, can do the real magic when working with structured data (just read a report from Turkcell, who compressed 600 TB to 50 TB, which means by 12). For unstructured data, such as PDF or JPEG, the effect might be very small, though. Still, if you have a chance, give it a try.
Active Data Guard* - Data Guard is a technology for disaster recovery. Advantage of Active Data Guard is that it allows using of the secondary location for read only operations, rather than leaving it idle (stand-by); this means, you might decrease sizing of both locations. With UCM, also do not forget about CONTENT TRACKER (which might require a "write" operation even for otherwise read only ones, such as DOC_INFO, GET_SEARCH_RESULTS, or retrieving a content item), but db gurus know how to handle even that. Unfortunately, Active Data Guard cannot be used with UCM at the moment, because not all the data is stored in the database and the secondary location might not be fully synchronized.
In my opinion, other options are not so relevant for a UCM solution.

Compression and Deduplication of SecureFiles LOBs, which is part of the Advanced Compression Option, can potentially deliver huge space savings, and performance benefits. If the content is primarily Office documents, or XML documents, or character-based (email?), then it will likely compress very well. Also, if the same file is stored multiple times, deduplication will cause the Oracle database to store only one copy, rather than storing the same document multiple times. There's more info on Advanced Compression here: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/options/advanced-compression/index.html

  • Administration Utilities in 11gR1 UCM

I would like to run Administration Utilities as standalone applications instead of running them as applets from within Content Server.
I am running UCM/WebLogic 11gR1 on Windows 7. I do not have any Administration Utilities in my Start Menu.
I found a few spots that talked about changing some stuff in System Properties to set it up, however I cannot even find that in my Start Menu.
Any help in how to run the Admin Applets as standalone applications would be great.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

You get access to the admin utilities easily enough. I am sure it is documented somewhere but I do not know where...
Steps I have found to work
    1)Login to UCM as weblogic
2)Go to UserAdmin applet and restore the sysadmin password to idc (it is a crime for it to be anything else on a dev system) you need to do this
3)You can run SystemProperties from <middleware_home>/user_projects/domains/<your_domain>/ucm/cs/bin/SystemProperties (you will find all your old friends in here!
4)Add the JDBC details so you can connect to the Java apps that need DB access (like archiver etc.) on the Database tab. I will guess that youl need to use the Oracle JDBC thin driver so select this and then fill in the details for JDBC user/passwd and connection string.
5)Start Batchloader/Archiver etc. from <middleware_home>/user_projects/domains/<your_domain>/ucm/cs/bin/ and login with the sysadmin credentials
If this works for you please mark the thread as answered as I expect others may benefit from this too.

  • System Image Restore in Window 8.1

I have not been able to find a data migration application that works at cloning a Windows 8.1 hard drive to a new SSD.  With that in mind I want to go about moving the contents, data and operating system from my working C: to a new SSD.  I want
to go about it as if I have backed up my system, my C: drive has failed so I need to install a new drive and restore my data and operating system to the new drive.  I can't seem to find any simple (this should be simple) straight forward way to do this
nor can I find any form of written instruction on how to go about this.
I would love to have someone articulate this.  As it stands I have a fully operational intact C drive.  I have completed a disk image to a second separate hard drive.  I now want to restore that content to a third (SSD ) drive.
    Where do I begin?

There is a system backup tool called System Image Backup, follow these steps to conduct this:
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
Enter File History in the search box, tap or click File History, and then click System Image Backup at the left part.
See the screenshot as below, you can backup it on local machine or a DVD or a network share folder:
Besides, I need to point out that this backup method will generate a vhd file, if you want to restore the system you need an DVD installation midia.
You cannot just restore a vhd file directly to the hard drive.

  • How to restore playlists and ratings after hard drive format

Several people have reported problems restoring paylists and ratings after reformating a hard drive. Here is what worked for me and what did not.
I had to reformat my hard drive. Before doing that I exported my playlists from itunes to another hard drive as an xml file. I also copied the folder with all my songs to another drive. (Also of course had it backed up on DVDs.)Then I copied the itunes library files (see url http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732) to anoher drive.
After reformating my hard drive and installing the lastest verion of ITunes, I copied the actual songs back into a subfolder in my music folder. I then told iTunes to import the subfolder with the actual music. That resulted in a restored library that lacked playlists and ratings.
    Don't do this
I purchased Anapod ($30.00) because its web page said (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/):
"Anapod CopyGear is an easy-to-use, compact utility for copying music tracks, playlists, podcasts, photos, and videos from your iPod back to your PC."
Well, I did transfer 104 playlists back to my iTunes library through the Anapod backup function. However, the transfer also put more than 20 gigs of duplicate songs into the library. All of the songs listed in the playlists were duplicated in iTunes. I could find no way in Anapod to simply copy the ratings and the playlists. Anapod documentation was outdated. For example the online help pages said that playlists could not be backed up. This was confusing because I had just done that.
"In a future release we will be adding the ability to backup your iPod playlists. This will allow you to generate backup files of your iPod playlists on the computer. These files will not be usable on your computer though. They can only be used to restore playlists at a later time on your iPod (assuming it still carries all the audio files referred to in that playlist)." This text is from url http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/support/tome/tx2pc.php#5.1.2
I sent requests to Anapod for help today, but they have not been answered yet. Docs truly did not seem to help. Would have been good if there was a pdf file rather than just an online help html file that seemed outdated.
    This worked for me:
I ended up having iTunes wipe out the entire library because of all the dups Anapod made. (Made sure that iTunes only wiped out library and did not delete actual songs from hard drive. Then I had iTunes import my subfolder with songs again. That brought me back to where I was before wasting money and much time on Anapod.
After I had my iTunes library up (without ratings and playlists and after finding Anapod did not meet my needs.
    1. I imported the xml file to which I had exported playlists before reformating hard drive. That gave me the playlists back although an error message said some items not copied because the music tracks listed in playlists were not in my iTunes library. --Possibly I deleted songs after playlists were downloaded some time ago to iPod. Importing the xml file is probably not necessary because of what I did below.
    2. Quit iTunes
    3. Because my song ratings were still missing, I then moved the iTunes library files made by the new version of iTunes into a different folder.
    4. Then I put my old version 4 library files into the place where the library files should be.
    5. Then I crossed my fingers and restarted iTunes. It took awhile to start and said it was updating my library files. Now I have back most or all of my playlists and ratings.
If problems develop, I will probably wipe out iTunes library and use Anapod to move everything from my iPod into a folder and tell iTunes to import that folder. That approach might avoid the dups that Anapod makes when restoring playlists to iTunes.
So my message is keep your actual songs backed up somewhere (such as DVD's and anotehr hard drive) and keep a duplicate copy of your library files somewhere not on your hard drive. With these items you should be able to restore iTunes library to its former status.
Sorry for the length of this message. Hope it helps someone.

    The simple version of above:
iTunes Files to Backup (anytime you make additions or changes to the Music or Library that you want to retain)
    1) All music files in their current folder structure (usually located in and under the ‘iTunes Music’ folder)
    2) The Library database file: ‘iTunes Library.itl’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    3) The Library XML file: ‘iTunes Music Library.xml’ located in the ‘iTunes’ folder
    4) Any XML playlist files created for Playlist retention
    5) The two iTunes.pref files (optional)
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    -- C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref
    6) The XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script (also optional, but recommended):
“Download this: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/SaveRatings.zip . It's a program, just run it like any other program. Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Now when you move the files, move the program and this file as well. Then after you make your new iTunes library, run it again and click the "Restore Ratings" button. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”

  • Trouble backing up and restoring voice memos

I tried to save my voice memos from my iphone 5s to my (pc) computer.  I successfully did this one month ago, I created a backup of my iphone and then synced the iphone with the computer.  Now a month later I am trying to do this again with the new voice memos.  I plugged my iphone in and made a backup and then tried to sync the phone.  When I tried to sync, itunes told me that my iphone is synced to another itunes library.  (not true, I last synced it to this same library on this same computer!)  Since I had just made a backup, I figured it should be safe to sync (which means erasing the phone, because itunes claims that my phone is synced to another computer), and then restore from the backup I just made.  I did this, and everything was restored except the voice memos.  There are only voice memos from the last month, and nothing previous to that.  (also strange, there are two of each voice memo!)  When I use 3rd party software to see what is contained in the backup, it says there are 300 voice memos.  However, when I restore from this same backup, there is only a small portion of that.  Why is this happening?  How do I get my voice memos back?  I could buy the third party software to extract all the voice memos, but these files don't contain the names I gave them, only a numeric code containing the date and time they were made.  This isn't very useful.  I want the voice memos back on my phone, with their names intact.
Also, for whatever reason, when I last tried to sync my phone a month ago, apparently it didn't actually put the voice memos into my itunes folder on my computer, so even though I thought that voice memos from before a month ago should be safely saved on my computer in itunes, they actually aren't.  This means I have lost ALL my voice memos except for the last month.  please help!!!  I am just trying to make a second copy of my voice memos on my computer to keep them safely backed up, but every time I do this it ends up deleting the original copy!  There must be some way to do this, and to retrieve the voice memos I know are contained in the backup.

    anyone?  help please?
