Restore w/o wall adapter!!

4th Generation iPod (Photo)
This is not my iPod... it's for a Windows user (not by choice).
I want to restore it, then eventually plug it BACK into a windows machine and format it in windows and update to latest version, because he has a slow internet connection. So I downloaded the latest version of iTunes [for Windows] and all that jazz. I hit restore and it did it's thing. It now wants me to plug it into a wall adapter which neither me nor the owner has. Is there ANY way I can restore it without said adapter?
I know Windows if there is a Windows work around... If there's a Mac work around that would be welcome too!
Thanks.

When updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see this icon displayed.
It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
Or you can try this.
No power adaptor? Try this.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • HT1459 not charging through computer or wall adapter

my brand new ipod touch won't charge through computer or wall adapter please help?????

When I connect my new 80G iPod to my computer, it
syncs, but it doesn't seem to be charging. The icon
is a steady green with a picture of a plug, but when
unplugged the battery is near empty. Shouldn't the
icon flash and show a lightening bolt when charging?
That's what it does when I charge from the wall.
Why isn't my charging through the computer?
    Thanks.

I figured it out. I had the iPod plugged into a USB hub, but since it's an unpowered hub, the iPod won'charge through it. When I go directly to the computer, all is well.

  • Wall adapter issues ?

    Hi,
Recently one of my parents heard on the radio that it was dangerous to keep the iphone wall adapter plugged in while nothing was connected to it.
I thought it was silly and I believe he's wrong. Now I want to prove it, but I can't seem to find any info on that particular subject.
Is it really dangerous ? Their argument is ''the continuous stream of current can ignite something and start a fire''.
BTW, sorry for my English, it's not my primary language.

Recently one of my parents heard on the radio that it was dangerous to keep the iphone wall adapter plugged in while nothing was connected to it.
Any electrical item that is plugged in can potentially be dangerous. If your parents are worried about the iPhone adapter, they need to start unplugging the tv/toaster/radio/microwave/etc because all of those devices are potentially more dangerous.

  • 5G will not charge from wall adapter

My new 15 gig 5G will not charge from a 5 volt wall adapter. It charges fine on the USB port on my computers.
So I decided to take a USB extension and cut it an place a current meter in series with the 5 Volt on the USB line. What I found is that it will draw ~500ma with the data lines connected in the cable(in other words a normal cable). Now if I disconnect the data wires so that I am only connecting the 5 volts from the USB port it will draw ~100 ma for a second and then draw no current. It appears that some kind of handshaking is required. Is this normal?
As it is now I will not be able to ever charge it from a 5 volt supply.Do they do something to the data lines on wall adapters?

Well I finally got my "dumb" USB charger (a Belkin F8Z009 Power pack) to work with my iPod 5G 30GB. To wake up the 5G needs to see 2.5 volts on it's data lines. The easiest way to do this is with a voltage divider made with two equal resistors. Like this:
As a poof of concept I made the device below with four 30K resistors but anything from 10K to 50K should work fine.
A more compact wake up cable could be made by cutting into a standard USB male-female extension cable and soldering in four resistors like this:
Of course if your building your own or can get your "dumb" USB charger open then the resistor voltage dividers can go inside.

  • Wall adapter ipod nano 7gen

Anyone now if there is a wall adapter, when I travel I don't always have my computer with me to charge it.

Yes. You can get a USB wall adapter (not necessarily Apple). Cheers!

  • Wall adapter not indicating charging process

My wall adapter of iPhone 3G "works" very strange: when I connect it to iPhone nothing happens. No bolt on battery in status bar. Lock screen shows just a background, no battery indication. And battery level does not change until I disconnect wall adapter from iPhone! After few secs charge icon in status bar changes to 100%! I tried only big charge timess so iPhone could fully charge.
So I just feel very uncomfortable of not knowing if charge process has began or I forgot to connect one of the wires

When you plug in to charge, the battery indicator should appear on the screen and the icon in the upper right of the battery will have a lightning bolt on it to indicate charging.

  • Lost AC wall adapter

    Hey all,
I've misplaced the AC wall adapter (just the tip that snaps on to the big power square) and can't seem to find a replacement. Am I stuck buying a new unit or having to use the longer 3-prong cord? Anyone know if there's a way just to buy the tips?
    Thanks.

The prong adapters are referred to as "duckheads", and Apple sells them individually. If you don't have a duckhead replacement, or the AC cord, you can try using the AC cord for an elctric shaver.

  • HT4993 My wall adapter doesn't charge my phone

I just got a new wall adapter for my iPhone 4S and it won't charge my phone I know the charger works because I tried it on my iPod .

It could be that your wall adapter isn't putting out enough power to charge the iPhone (if you check, I believe that you will see an iPod Touch takes a lower current to charge than an iPhone does).
Another possibility is that there is something with your iPhone.  If you haven't restarted it recently, you might try that first.  Next check to make sure that there is nothing in the dock connector (lightly brushing it out with a new, dry tooth brush might help there).  If that fails, try taking it to a Genius Bar to see if they can get it to charge.

  • USB Wall Adapter for UK

Hi, i was just wondering if you can buy the wall adapter for charging yor iPOD which is compatible in the United Kingdom from apple store online or will i have to see an apple dealer here in the UK?
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers,
    Hywel

Well, I have exactly the same model USB wall charger and a 2G touch running 3.0; everything still works exactly as it did before the upgrade. I guess that means we can't blame 3.0.
but that's not to say I'm a special little snowflake.
    Maybe you ARE
Let's see if anyone else has a suggestion (other than bringing it back to an Apple Store for exchange).

  • AC Wall Adapter

Will an old 20, 60g wall adapter be ok with a new 30g ipod with video?????

This seems to be a common problem:
"Complaints are steadily growing in number that the iPhone’s AC adapter has proven unreliable for early buyers.
A discussion thread on Apple’s support website contains a large number of reports of the stand-alone power unit permanently losing its ability to recharge the phone. Plugging the iPhone directly into a USB port charges the device without problems, according to the anecdotes. Other testers have tried replacing the dock-to-USB cable and different wall outlets, ruling out other factors that could prevent a steady power supply.
Apple has yet to formally recognize any widespread issues but can replace the adapter for free as part of the iPhone’s hardware warranty."
So, yes, you should be able to have it replaced free of charge at the place where you bought your phone.

  • The wall adapter for the palm pre charger

can the wall adapter for charging the palm pre also be used with an ipod touch charge cord? both are usb ends that can plug into the wall adapter

Standard warning label caveat: You CAN use these chargers interchangeably as long as both devices use micro USB technology, and not mini USB. (Basically don't force the charger in the charging port.) However, it is recommended that you only use chargers and equipment designed for and that came with your device.

  • Wall adapter

I have a black berry, and it has a usb charge and an option wall charger, I was wondering if the wall adapter would work with my video ipod?

Youve still got to watch though. Ipods batterys come with specific specifications that need to be managed for. The blackberry might be different. So maybe look into it more. See if the voltage match up and such and such.

  • I need an Apple 'wall adapter'

I bought a pocket-sized portable recharger for my iPhone and iPad 2.  This little gizmo connects to the 30-pin connector.  It also needs to be recharged, and here is my problem.  My cords are all innies.  That is, they fit into the connector to charge.  For my gizmo, I need an outie.  I'm told this is an Apple wall adapter.
I've searched online and can't find it under that name.  So .. what else is it called?

Oops, just saw your responses after I hit submit.
Innie means it fits INto the device.  OUTtie means it goes over the connector pins
I'm a newbie to Apple and the iPhone as well as the iPad. Windows user for 20 years.  Which is male and which is female?  I don't want to asssume male=outtie female=innie.

  • Can I use the same wall adapter to charge my ipad and my ipod

Can I use the same wall adapter to charge my ipad and my ipod touch

No offense, but that's nice. I heard I was wrong and that what I said didn't make sense, so I simplified it. If I'm wrong, fine, but you have no reason to be such a *****. You never explained why I was wrong and you were right, so how am I or anyone else suppose to know that for sure? Then I tell you my source, and you insult me some more and then ask for my background, which as for this area goes, I already gave you. I worked at an Apple store for Christmas and was told by someone on the Genius team to tell customers not to charge iPads via iPhone chargers, as they had been known to fry the adapter or in one weird case, the actual outlet. Now I could see the outlet blowing be a bunch of other contributing factors, and not directly associated with the charger. However, the topic arose when a customer came in because her iPhone wall adapter didn't seem to be working, but wasn't that old, and admitted to charging her iPad with it. Why would I NOT believe that?
And my DEEPEST apologies on commenting on old threads. I know how vital that is to existance and what an inconvenience it is to EVERYONE else. I'll be honest, I wasn't checking dates as I assumed suggested posts with like one answer near the top of the list were newer.
Fine, I did something foolish, but I still win as I'm not either of you heartless ****** with nothing better to do than Internet harass others. Congratulations on your existences.
