Restored Ipod Malfunctioning when Connecting to Power

Hi all, i am hoping that someone can help me out with the following issue. Any help would be much appreciated.
I recently restored my iPod and when it prompted me to connect the iPod to the power via the apple power socket i did so. The Apple logo appears and then the status bar appears at the bottom. The bar gradually fills and once it reaches a full state the iPod resets and goes through the same sequence again.......and again.......and again. I left this for a couple of hours but it kept going and going so i left it over night and it still continued.
When i disconnect it from the power it shows the logo prompting me to reconnect it to the power. If i leave it then the iPod turns off. When i turn it back on it prompts me to connect to the power again. When i do it goes through the same motions as before.
When i connect it to my laptop (windows) nothing happens. It doesn't turn on, the computer doesn;t recognise that anything is installed.
When i try and reset the iPod using the menu and selct buttons then it resets and does the same things again.
Can anyone at all help me out in anyway possible. Your help would be very much appreciated.
Many Thanks.

my fourth gen ipod is doing pretty much the same thing. Did you recently downloan and update to the new version of itunes? That seems to be the cause.
Anyway, a day after I had your problem the ipod discharged all energy and won't do anything... no apple symbol, no battery charge symbol... nothing. It doesn't even make the noise like it's trying.
To quote Ben Folds:
"She's a brick..."
And mines so old I imagine if I ever get to an apple store (2.5 hours away) they ain't doing squat for it.

ipod touch completely unresponsive.  will not turn on at all even when connected to power source.  is it dead????

After charging for at least an hour reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next connect the iPod to your computer and see if iTunes sees the iPod.  If it does try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  If it is not visible try the following to make it visible:
--- Place it in recovery mode via:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    --- Place in DFU mode:

Why would my iPod show a full battery when connected to power but when not connected it will no longer turn on

    For both
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • MBP shuts down when connecting to power

Since a week or two, my MacBookPro from early 2011 shuts down when connecting the magsafe to power. Also when starting up again it will start up fine and fast from battery, but I need to hold the power button for several seconds when connected to power.
Another problem I had earlier as well is  CPU (kernel task) of over 90%, which I now see clearly, only occurs when connected to power. I used to solve this problem by putting the MBP to sleep, but now, when put to sleep, it will shut down.
When on battery, I have no CPU problem and can put machine to sleep without a problem.
I recently started uploading everything to dropbox, and activate caffeine to make sure it will keep uploading. My computer will run for days on power combined with caffeine, but is as slow as **** because of a >90% CPU.
The battery has had a notification for maybe a year, that it needed service, so today I finally bought and installed a new battery, but the problem is not solved. Is this software or could it be my magsafe adapter? Thanks for you help.

It sounds like a problem with the power management inside your MBP. I suggest you call Apple to make an appointment at your local Apple store for them to check it out for you.

  • My MacBook Pro will not powerup (even when connected to power supply).

My MacBook Pro will not powerup (even when connected to power supply). The caps lock key is the only light on.

    Hi PatB11902,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your MacBook Pro does not seem to power on, but the caps lock key will light up when you press the caps lock key, you are likely seeing a video issue.
There are several steps that can help troubleshoot this behavior, found at this link:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays - Apple Support
    Start with these steps:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Start up in Safe Mode.
If your Mac does not start up normally after these steps, here are some additional tips that can help:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on - Apple Support
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.
If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

have u used the CD that came with the iPod because that does a lot for helping with reconization of the iPod.

  • Have a 4th Generation photo ipod stuck on connect to power source in restore

I just replaced the 20 GB HD with an 80 GB HD...As I was going through the restore process, I'm stuck at the connect to power source part. I don't have the apple usb wall charger, but I do have a usb wall charger. Do I need to use the one that came with the ipod when I bought it or could I use another usb wall charger?
I'd hate to go and spend any additional money to get this working. Any suggestions?

For this particular iPod model (4th gen), you need the square white power adapter that came with the iPod, to complete that last step, if you are using USB for the connection.  It has something to do with the connection's voltage.  The USB port on the computer does not provide it, and many third-party USB power adapter do not either (some may).  The more recent Apple power adapter that looks like a small cube should work.
NOTE:  If you happen to use a Mac with a FireWire port, and you have a FireWire docking cable, you do NOT need to connect it to the power adapter to complete the Restore.  So a FireWire port apparently provides the required voltage.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, you could probably take it there and ask the Genius Bar folks if you can plug your iPod into an Apple power adapter.  Do not have them perform a complete Restore using a Mac, if you use a Windows PC.

  • How can I keep my ipod files when connecting to new pc?

When connecting ipod to this new pc, (other one died), it says it wants to sync my files and that it will delete what is on the ipod.
This is the only files I have left since the others were on the old pc.
Is there a way to save this music before it gets 'resync'd'?
    Thanks for your help

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Problems restoring iPod because of connection to update server

My iPod hasn't been connecting correctly or updating correctly, and the support site told me I should restore my iPod after I've updated iTunes. I updated iTunes and attempted to restore the iPod, but when I click "restore," I get an error saying, "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."
As far as I can see, there's nothing wrong with my network. Help please?

I figured out my own problem...
I didn't know there was a firewall/virus protection program on. Just disable it and it will work.

  • My Macbook Pro ran out of battery last night and wouldn't turn back on even when connected to power for a period of time. However, when I woke up, it did turn on. Is there a reason this happened and should I get it looked at?

Last night, I was watching something on my Macbook Pro and it died (out of battery). I went to plug it in and waited a couple of minutes to try and start it back up. However, when I connected the power source the light was green, which could not have been the case since I know 100% it was out of battery. I proceeded to hold the start button for a long period of time, but my computer made no noise and refused to turn on - it looked like for all intensive purposes it was dead. I left it alone overnight praying that it would be alright in the morning and luckily, when I opened the computer this morning it was restarted and fine. I'm concerned because I've had this happen to me a couple of times and while it always turns back on, I feel like there is a bigger issue that I need to get addressed. Can anyone help me with this? Any ideas? Thank you!

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • IPod Freezing when connected to computer

My problem seems to be similar to all of the other problems people are having with iTunes 7, but I couldn't find something the same as mine, so here's my problem. Whenever I connect my iPod to by Powerbook G4 (this is only after i installed iTunes 7, my ipod shows the 'Do Not Disconnect,' but freezes - the circle with the cross does not flash. I proceed to reset the iPod, after which I can connect to my computer with no problems (iTunes 7 is really annoying, but i assume an update soon?????).
Is my problem an issue with iTunes 7 and will be solved with the supposed update, or does anyone know what might be causing it.
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Everyone.
I've been having the same problem. i have a 5G ipod.. i did the latest firmware update a while back, and the iTunes 7 update. After that, whenever i connect the ipod to a mac, i see the red circle with a line through, and its not flashing, then the ipod is locked up. only way to make it work is reset the ipod while its connected..
I tried a full restore, and that did not help.. then I pretty much gave up, and hoped that Apple would release new firmware.
In a last attempt of hope, i thought i would connect the ipod to my new makbook pro.. just to see if it was a problem with the imac. well, same again. ugh. rats..!
So, i tried a full restore from this 'new' computer..
This time, i noticed something different.. iTunes decided to download the firmware again, and re-flash the iPod.. (with the same version)
ah.. now it works !!! i went back to the imac.. connected it.. loaded up all my tunes.. and it works.. disconnect.. plug back in.. no freeze !!!!
So, it seems that if you can try another mac, and restore.. or indeed get the firmware to download again, and apply to the iPod.. it just might work !!!
Hope this helps some folks out!
    Cheers, Keith

  • IPhone 4 will not charge when connected to power

I have tried the home/ power trick and at first it went to the apple logo then would power up and then cycle off and then repeat infinitely. Now the phone is so low on power that it only shows either the lightening bolt while connected or the cord + lightening bolt when not connected to power. It is still not charging though. I left plugged in overnight and still no change.Help please

If not a problem with the power adaptor or cable being used, more than likely the iPhone has a hardware problem with the battery or something else. Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
