Restored ipod wiped out itunes
got glitch on my ipod and it had to be restored. I had all of my music on my dell computer and when i restored my ipod touch 4g on a different computer all of the music was erased off my ipod and my dell!!

click start then search ( win xp )... or start and under programs line type search music ( win 7 ) if searching win xp click search for music and video ... my point is chances are the files werent deleted from your dell but perhaps the index to the file folder where they are stored was removed... chances are all your music is on your computer. happy hunting

Everything on iPod wiped out...now podcasts not updating
A couple days ago I had wanted to add an episode of a podcast to my iPod but wasn't on my XP account. It had downloaded to the XP account I was on, so I figured it would be easier to just update from there instead of logging off and waiting 5 minutes to log onto my account so all the antivirus stuff could load. So I plugged my iPod in and dragged the podcast episode to my iPod in the Source column (it's updated manually). Without warning, iTunes wiped out everything that had been on my iPod and started replacing it with everything on this particular iTunes library. I panicked and quickly unplugged my now empty iPod. I haven't been able to recover any of my songs except some of the podcasts. I downloaded Recover My Files, and it found a good number of the songs, but a) many have been overwritten (whatever that means) and b) it wanted me to pay 70 dollars for an activation code (first time is supposed to be free). Ever since my iPod was wiped out, iTunes has not updated the podcasts, so I manually downloaded the episodes I missed and added them to my library on my XP account. I dragged them to my iPod, and iTunes wiped out every podcast I had salvaged and left just the two I manually downloaded.
So,
1. Is there any hope for me to recover my songs?
2. Why is iTunes not updating my podcasts and wiping out my songs whenever I add new ones to iPod?

ETA: No, I didn't back up my music, it was one of those things I meant to do.Will the podcasts that can't be found actually play in iTunes on the computer? For the message I would say they will not play because iTunes can't find the actual file.

How to restore Ipod database without iTunes?
Hi,
My iPod mini is visible to any aplication except iTunes. I have tried all it sugested on the manuals to fix it and nothing worked.
Others applications like RealPlayer and Anapod can see that the iPod is connect but can´t show its content. RealPlayer says that the database file doesn´t exist or is corrupted.
The only way I can see my files is accessing the iPod-Control directory using windows.
If I disconect it from the Pc I can´t see the musics that are on it.
I have made a copy of the songs that were on it and now I want to know how to restore it without use iTunes, because nothing makes iTunes see it.
Is there any update link that still work on apple website, so I don´t need to use iTunes?
I need to restore my iPod without iTunes because unistall, check register, restarts,... did not work.
The only way I can see the iPod is runing the diadnosis under the help menu. Nothing have worked to make it be showed as device.

TS1372 how to restore ipod touch without itunes
I am extemely frustrated. I have an Ipod touch 3rd Generation 32gb. I was promted by Apple to update my latest IOS to 5.1.1. In doing so Apple has locked up my ipod to the point that it will not update and is stuck on the install usb screen. All these sync proceedures appear to have been a waste of time as I can not restore this device either. It is amazing as I have seen many poeple online with the same problem yet, Apple can not even give anyone a proper answer on what to do. I would just like to restore the device without connecting to my PC. I know hold down power and start till logo and then hold 10 seconds. Nothing is happening. I need to take a class on how to run an Ipod touch ?
Please someone help me to resote my ipod touch with out connecting to a PC. This should not be so difficult. I can build PC's from scratch but I can't update an Ipod? Something is seriously flawed. I mean even this discussion is flawed, they do not have an option for IPOD TOUCH in community.There is an ipod touch forum.

Restore ipod mini freezes itunes and doesn't restore
I can't manage any music on my ipod mini with itunes. So I decided to try the restore...Everything goes smoothly until I get to the progress bar where itunes is "restoring" my ipod. After an hour of waiting and the bar sitting at about a millimeter completed I close itunes. I've also updated, and reinstalled itunes many times. My music is still on my ipod and it still charges and works perfectly except when I want to manage my music. Please help :P
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

3rd Gen iPod wiped out after installing it on someone else's laptop

I'm freaking out here. I recently moved to London from South Africa where i used to manage all my music and had my 20Gb iPod registered. Now that i've moved to London i tried to register my iPod on my new laptop...i put the cd in first and continued with the installation but now that it's finished - my iPod had been restored and all my music is gone!!!!!!!! I am trying to stay calm. I installed the new iTunes and once that was done it still had the audacity to offer me the option of restoring my iPod to the factory settings! What have i done? all the money, all that time..where is my music collection? PLEASE HELP! I don't want a brand new iPod i want my music back!!!no no, it's not about transferring music from my iPod to the laptop. I have moved to London so i'm using a new laptop altogether and when i tried to register my iPod on the new pc it wiped my iPod clean of all the music i had on it...yes i have the music backed-up but only back home in South Africa, 10 000 miles away
why would it restore the factory settings when i registered it on the new laptop? especially when it never warned me about this or prompted this action
furthermore my iPod was only plugged in for a few minutes which would make it impossible to delete 18Gb of music in that short a time

I went to sync my ipod today, and noticed the 700 songs I have downloaded were GONE. They are wiped from my ipod, and my library. The only remaining songs are the ones I have purchased. Has anyone had this happen to them? Anyone know why this happened??
yes i just got my ipod nano 4gen 16gb and when i was traveling i uploaded music onto it and when i got home i uploaded music and i ahve igleast $300 worth in music on my own not only fron itunes but other places and when i went home and sync new music i lost all of my other music so if any one can figure this out plz let me know im not very plzed with this being my first ipod

Updated ipod, wiped out songs, and now I can't get them back on to to it
I updated my daughters ipod nano, not knowing that it would wipe out all her songs. Now we are trying to get them back on from her library and it only copies 1 song from her 79 and it does not give us the option to send them to it.

When the iPod is connected to the computer and in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure it is set to automatically update all songs and playlists. Click OK.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the iPod...
Restore the iPod
Now try putting the songs on.
Also, are the songs that are not transferring purchased (from the iTunes Music Store)?

I have an iPod touch which is non-working. When I plug it in to my mac, I get the message: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
So in iTunes, I click the restore button. At that point, support docs say that I should be prompted to enter an admin password, but I'm not. All I get is a file open dialog box. Is it prompting me to find some backup file for my iPod? I don't know, but I don't have any such file. I have no idea what file I should be opening supposedly. I just want to restore my iPod to default factory settings. How do I do this?

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

My computer recently had a virus which required me to reformat my unbacked up computer. As such, all my tunes (both iTunes purchased and CD sourced) are only on my iPod. While the iTunes purchased songs are already restored, am I able to restore the other music back to my newly formatted computer? I have copied the files from the iPod to the hard disk, opened iTunes, and double clicked each file to then have it brought up in iTunes. However, this just results in the song having an apostrophe next to it and the comment that the 'original file could not be found'. Can anyone please help me with this?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Need to restore iPod classic without iTunes
For some reason my friends iPod will not be recognize by any of the computers we've tried it on. So is there a way to restore it without iTunes?
There are no longer any standalone updaters which will restore an iPod with the latest firmware, they stopped being released when the function was incorporated into iTunes 7. All updates and restores have to be done in iTunes.

Can I restore Ipod Touch without itunes?
Im stuck on the apple logo, and I realize that I need to restore the firmware. My issue comes with Itunes (7). This program is SOOOO incredibly slow, that it actually crashes my router before the download is finished, and instead of simply pausing the download, it cancels it altogether.
Is there a way to download the firmware from a third party, then install it using itunes?You need an internet connection using iTunes to restore the iPod.

My computer crashed recently and obviously took out everything with it. is there any way that I can transfer the music from my iPod into iTunes? i don't want to have to rip 4 thousand songs back onto my computer
i tried searching for acticles, but all I found was how to transfer between computers by turning the ipod into a hard drive. unfortunately, i don't have an old computer to transfer from.You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. IPod times out / iTunes Locks Up / Synch not working
Hey everyone... I am having a terrible time here.... For Christmas I bought a new iMac Core Duo and an 80GB iPod. I transferred all my music from my old Mac, a G4 Cube, using the Migration Assistant when the new iMac booted up for the first time.
I am not able to get a successful sync from my iPod. Some of my symptoms include:
(a) Plug In iPod, iTunes launches. Sync Begins. iTunes locks up at a particular song (i.e. Synching 138 of 13275). iPod still appears to be synching but nothing is happening.
(b) Plug in iPod, iTunes launches. Sync Begins. iPod quits synching after a minute or so and returns to its main menu. iTunes still thinks it's synching but is locked at a particular song (i.e. Synching 38 of 13275)
In any case, iTunes hangs at some random song number, and all I can do is Force Quit, but iTunes never really quits... the little black triangle stays under the icon and I can't relaunch or Force Quit iTunes. More often than not the the Finder locks up as well. In any case, I can't even restart the Mac... I have to hold the power button until it forcefully shuts down.
I've done the "5 R's" several times, and I've also put the iPod in Disk Mode and reformatted it thinking something might be wrong with the file system but the symptons persist and I can't get a reliable sync.
I saw in some of these posts that a powered USB hub may solve the problem but that did not work either... same symptoms.
Having been a devout Mac evangelist for the last few years and a confirmed 'Switcher' since OS X came out I'm disappointed in this and hope a fix can be found soon. Any ideas from the collective?
