Restored iPod -- Won't Recognize

Hi,
I was having some serious iPod issues when connecting my iPod to the iMac, so I hooked it up to the Windows PC and restored it. During that process it changed the format to Windows, and now whenever I connect it to my Mac it is not recognized by iTunes. Any help would REALLY be appreciated.
Thanks,
Simon

OK, similar problem here.
I need to 'restore' my nano. I request itunes to restore. I says that it can't connect to the internet. But I am connected. In fact, in order to remedy this, I uninstalled, then reinstalled I tunes. No problems with itunes connection to the internet, no problems with Nano to itunes.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  • Restored Now Won't Recognize

Okay so iTunes was telling me to restore my iPod and I did but when I've gone back to sync everything again my computer says that it doesn't recongnize my iPod. What do I do? I kinda can't live without my iPod...so...can anyone help me??

Me too. Have tried to restore iPod as had been getting exclamation mark with file. It wiped all tunes off it before I tried to restore so I had nothing to lose. Now in disk utility, the repair procedure is indicating that the volume needs to be repaired but it cannot do it. It won't mount on either desk top or in iTunes. This is a 2nd generation iPod and surely should have lasted longer than 3 years. Apparently to repair it costs £169!!!!

  • Replacement Ipod, restored, PC won't recognize Ipod

Hi -- sorry if this is covered in another topic -
I recently received a replacement 20 gig Ipod 4ht gen (click wheel, b/w screen) from Apple. It was formatted in OSX, I have a PC. I restored the unit with the 11-15-05 updater.
It worked, but when I tried to add my music from Itunes, I got the continuous "do not disconnect" message. I chalked it up to having other programs running. I restored the unit again, and left it to charge with the AC adapter overnight.
The next night I tried to add my music, but my PC is not recognizing the ipod at all. I plug in the Ipod with the USB port, and nothing. All I see on the screen is the "charged" icon. I can’t even restore it again.
Any suggestions? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much.
    Lisa

FYI: I forced the ipod into Disk Mode and it worked, it now mounts and connects to Itunes. However, I noticed the Ipod has a battery drain (completely drains the battery if left unplugged), so Might have to send it back AGAIN.
But here are the instructions to force the ipod into disk mode, it worked for me:
    1. You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Disk Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack.
    2. Press and hold the following combination of buttons buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    o iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
o iPod 4G+ and Mini: "Menu" and "Select
    3. Restart the iPod as explained above, then as soon as you see the Apple logo, let go, and then hold down the "Fast Forward" and "Rewind" buttons. This will force your iPod into Disk Mode. At this point your iPod may mount on your computer. If not, try restarting the computer.
    4. Once your iPod is in Disk Mode (it should say that on the top of the iPod's LCD screen) and is flashing the "Do not disconnect" icon, you should be all set.

  • My babys sick.. My ipod Won't recognize my computer, and turns off randomly. I've tried restoring, and wiping it several times. Please help.

I have an ipod touch, 16 GB, 2nd generation i presume.
I've had problems with it for several months, and gave up on it.
It's had a virus or several, which caused it to randomly cut off, when fully charged. When i plugged it up, i got the black apple screen, or a bunch of numbers.
After a while i started doing research trying to find different cures for my problem.
When i tried restoring it, it would cut off, show the apple screen, and then not show up on my computer.
After i tried restoring it the last time.. It will not connect to the computer or even cut on.
I think my ipod is sick=/
And i have no idea what to do with it.
    I use windows

Did you "jailbreak" (a type of hack) your iPod? I've seen videos of iPods being jailbroken and when the hack is being applied, they show a bunch of code being inserted into the system. When you remove during jailbreak, that is exactly what happens, the iPod keeps on trying to go into a mode where it is waiting for a comand via USB, but isn't receiving any cuz it isn't connected to a computer running a hack program. This therefore leaves your iPod in a inoperable state, a forever reset loop. Unless you didn't jailbreak

  • After restoring, iPod won't work

So I have this 4 GB iPod mini that I got from my boyfriend and it was working perfectly fine...until I plugged it into my Macbook to upload my songs onto it. I reformatted the settings on the iPod from PC to Mac and uploaded my songs on it. Then I disconnected the iPod when it said it was safe to and now all that happens is the apple logo appears on the screen and then a folder with an exclamation point appears and won't let me get to the home screen. I have tried restoring the settings, I have re-downloaded iTunes, restarted my computer and have yet to find a solution to this problem. Is there anyone who has had similar problems? Is there a way I can fix this?

Try formatting the iPod (check WIndows Help to see how to format a drive) and then try restoring.

  • Ipod won't recognize ipod nano

I've never had a problem with my ipod before but now whenever I plug in my ipod to my computer it lights up then does nothing. It doesn't connect or anything. I thought it might be a problem with my computer but my computer still recognizes my sister's ipod. It connects and everything with hers, no luck with mine. Any suggestions?

have you tried resetting your iPod? (hold menu and select until apple logo appears) and then put it into disk mode (when logo appears hold select and play/pause) this should get it to show on iTunes list then you can restore to factory defaults...(this deletes all the songs etc on your iPod though so be careful!)

  • Ipod won't recognize internet connection to update 1.2

I downloaded and updated to itunes 7 and the summary tab informs me that new software is available to update my ipod software. When I click on ipdate however it refuses to recognize my internet connection. I am online while this occurs. Since many of my video files just purchased seem to require this software (unless my tv shows won't sync for some other reason)this has been very fustrating.

    Hi,
I too am having this exact problem. Please let me know if you have gotten any assistance on this.

  • IPod won't recognize songs

I've had my 3rd generation iPod for a few years and this is the first time I've had major problems with it. I recently had to restore it and ever since, I've had problems. I connect it to iTunes and it acts like it's supposed to - it looks like it's transferring my library over. But after the battery dies and I plug it in, it says that there isn't any music on my iPod. This is driving me nuts! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    2 problems:
    1. My Shuffle won't accept songs from iTunes now that's in on my external hard drive.
    2. When I hook up my regular iPod, it says something to the effect of "a new library has been detected, do I want to import?" Do I?

didn't know about the 'Consolidate Library' step.

When I plugged my ipod into the computer, got a message that I had to restore, which I did. Synced the ipod and thought all was good. Tried to play podcast, and there was nothing there--no music, no podcasts. According to the ipod, I have used 1.0 GB with 6.3 GB free, listed as "other". I have restored multiple times and resynced. Still nothing! Please help!

THe same thing has happened to me, have you fixed it?

  • IPod won't recognize Artist/Album categories

Hi, I am trying to re-set my sister's 30GB-Video iPod to work on her Windows XP notebook as that's all she will have for a while when she relocates next month. The notebook has SP2 installed and the iPod and iTunes software are the most recent downloaded releases with fresh installs for everything.
When I load a CD in iTunes, I am able to get it to correctly label the songs under Advanced > Get CD Track Names, and I am able to copy the songs into the iTunes library located on the computer as wel as onto the iPod.
Unfortunately, the iPod itself doesn't recognize the songs as belonging to the Album or Artist as they were clearly indicated in iTunes. With the iPod, if I click Music>Artist> it just lists ALL the songs by name in one big list. Same thing when going throug Music>Album> ...again, just one big list of songs.
I have checked that the iPod is NOT in compilation mode, by the way.
Has anyone had this happen to them and found a solution for it?
    Thanks,
    Grant

Woops...problem solved...just got it to work after adding a second CD.
Interesting that the iPod doesn't show an artist or album unless there are two or more artists or albums on the device.
    Thanks,
    Grant

  • IPod won't recognize music on my computer

Hi..tried to get help last night with problem and no luck yet...
The history: I plugge IPod Nano into my computer at home and a message square came up asking if I wanted to switch libraries, or something...stoopid me said yes and in blink of an eye there is no longer my library on my IPod and it has completely wiped it off my entire computer.
TODAY...I take my IPod to my office to my laptop where I am hoping my library still exist. AND...when I turn on Itunes the library on my laptop IS my original list...YEAH...I have a backup...
BUT...when I plug in my IPOD today it brings up the message box with the library switch question this time I answer NO and what I have now is my laptop computer ITunes library is on the screen, but my IPod is still showing this new empty library that appeared last night after the fiasco. How do I safely get the music library from my computer to the IPod...I am afraid to do anything lest I lose my library forever...
What do I do? Is there anywhere I can call for step by step help? this really *****.
    Thanks J Galloway

if I understand correctly your music is on the laptop and you want it on your ipod. So say yes to the message and the itune library from your laptop will update and fill your empty ipod. Now the intresting part if you want to upload the ipod info onto your home computer your going to need to download thrid party software cuz technicley "you cannot upload music from ipod to computer" i just had the same problem and solved it with the software "sentui" google it and check out the site its legit and easy to use. Its only a mac app so if you have a pc your on your own to find software for your needs but its prob. out there. After you upload your ipod info to your home comp itune library and it appears like normal plug in the ipod and when it asks to sync itune library with ipod click yes and you should be set. NOTE: it seems odd that during the orginal sync both your itunes library and ipod where erased, only your ipod should have erased and not the itune library.
