Restored NTFS partitions are no longer bootable?
After using Boot Camp to create a FAT32 partition, I restored an image to that partition from my previous NTFS partition using Disk Utility. The restore was successful except that now my NTFS is no longer bootable. Can anyone help me out?

Volume Shadows of the NTFS partition are created after a certain period
Dear Support,
Shadows are configured to create on Mon to Fri every week. Once a spell is over from Monday to Friday, they are not created from next Monday. Am I doing anything wrong? The exact time to start the Shadow copies is at 9:00PM from Monday to Friday.
In the Event Viewer, I do not identify any trace of error related to VSS, MS Software provider service as well as DCOM services. But at the same time, Service Control Manager has reported in the Event Viewer that the Windows Modules Installer service entered
the running state.
Please suggest if any solution is noticed.

Do you have enough free space on the drive you are having shadow copy created? Please check the event logs for VSS in application log and post the details.
Please see if you can delete the old shadow copies from the drive to make more free space for new shadow copies.

As far as I know, the sata ntfs partitions are those with (sdb#).
I tried mounting one of them but this is what it shows:

Please help me, this is very annoying compared to ubuntu which does do the job pretty well. By the way, I'm using kde as my DE. Dolphin sees the partitions but cant access.

[SOLVED] NTFS partition unmounted after suspend to ram
I recently did a from-scratch installation after I bought an SSD to replace of my old harddrive. Since this fresh install I have been having a problem with an NTFS partition that is mounted by way of fstab (it's not _the_ windows partition just a bit of shared space on a dual-boot setup): Whenever I suspend the computer and bring it back up, the NTFS partition is invariably unmounted.
The mount point is empty and the mount command makes no mention of the mount. A simple "sudo mount /mnt/SAND" will bring the partition back up again although sometimes it needs to be umounted first (the mount point is still empty despite the 'mount'). Here is the fstab line:
/dev/sda3 /mnt/SAND ntfs-3g defaults,noatime,uid=1000,gid=100 0 0
Testing and screwing around I've noticed that if the WINDOWS partition is mounted using nautilus (as it is not mentioned in fstab) that too will be unmounted while a non-root ext4 partition (UBUNTU) is not.
So my hypothesis is that these NTFS partitions are singled out for unmounting when suspending (but apparently not mounting when reawakening?) -- maybe because they are assumed to be external drives? Given that it happens across mounting solutions (fstab/nautilus) I'm inclined to think it's not a bug?
At any rate I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to stop the unmounting when suspending -- ideally for all internal drives, secondarily for these specific partitions. I have checked the suspend to ram article on the wiki but it doesn't seem to mention anything about unmounting...
EDIT: After the Great Big Arch Switch To Systemd this problem no longers occurs on so I'm closing it. Not necessarily much of a solution to anyone who happens on this from google, sorry.

- 270.29 beta driver
- MTRR enabled by appending enable_mtrr_cleanup mtrr_spare_reg_nr=1 to the list of kernel options (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpos … tcount=39)
I didn't investigate further to know if both the driver and the MTRR trick are required.

If you are seeing a cloud icon, they are not actually on your device, just available to download. If you wish to turn this off: Settings app > Videos > Show All Videos [turn OFF]. This is also available in for the Music and iBooks apps.

I recently up dated my OS to 10.7.3 and I get a "can't open application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Can this be restored? If not do you know if Epson has drivers for my scanner that work around this?
You cannot run PPC software in Lion. Go to Epson's website to see if they have an updated scanner driver. If they don't then you can try using VueScan if it supports your scanner model.

Deleted ntfs partition accidentally using cfdisk, how to restor SOLVED
Hello, please help me with my major prob...I was installing arch that time and I was on the cfdisk to format partitions, unnoticably I had deleted the ntfs partitions on my sata 160gb and replaced them with linux partitions. Is there any means of restoring the files of the ntfs partitions? Please I need your help. THanks

Bootcamp no longer bootable after adding and deleting partitions
I am using a 2014 Macbook Pro with OSX 10.9.5
I was trying to add a partition to install Ubuntu on and after adding and deleting partitions, my bootcamp partition will no longer boot whether I use rEFIt or bootcamp assistant or normal osx boot menu.

It wasnt like this before. Before 3 and 4 had some of the same values from above instead of all 0s. After trying to take advice from threads with similar problems and entering stuff into the command line it became like this. I think I might have messed thing up while looking for a quick fix.

I followed the rest of the instructions given here. I made sure to enter the second number with a + sign. After doing all of that all these checks worked:
Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?
Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?
Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?
I've always been able to access my bootcamp files from finder and I can try to boot from System Preferences -> startup disk, from rEFIt and also from my macbooks startup manager that I access by holding down option while booting.
I'm starting to think I've misrepresented my problem and that I've been looking at the wrong threads. Every time I try to boot windows I get a black screen with the Windows logo and some text saying something like "starting automatic recovery" or something like that. It then takes me to a blue screen displaying an error number and telling me to use recovery tools on the installation media. Maybe this is different from the problems I've been looking at in other threads.
I've tried using the same USB I used to install bootcamp with but it doesn't give me the option of repairing the installation.
EDIT: So I figured out how to edit replies. Anyway I just tried to boot into Windows and checked. The black screen with the Windows logo says "Preparing Automatic Repair". The blue screen gives me the error 0xc00000e. -
After I upgraded to Mavericks, all of my "Notes" data was gone. The Note ap is still available but the notes themselves are no longer in Mail as they used to be.They are still on my iPhone, but I want them on my computer, too.

Easy to install Lion with BootCamp + Win 8 + NTFS partition for data?
Hey, I have a MacBook Pro (2011) currently on OS X 10.6.8, but I bought Lion 10.7 and want to use that.
Here's what I want to do:
* install Lion (fresh, not upgrade)
* install BootCamp
* install Win 8 (DevEd) (for games and some other apps)
And here are my questions:
1) What's the best (free) way to save/"ghost" the current OS so I can quickly get back to that in case something happens when I install Lion?
2) What order do I install BootCamp and Win 8 in? Any fool-proof tutorial for how to do this?
3) If I do a backup with Time Machine as the last thing I do before installing Lion, I just copy the data back from the TM drive after install, right?
4) I would like to use Win 8 and some programs there to read and write to the HFS+ OS X partition - is there a free and/or good way to do that?
5) On PC I can use WinAmp, the great plugin "DeleteCurrentSong" and a shortcut key to delete the currently playing track. Is there a way to do something similar in any program in OS X?
6) If not, would it be possible to - early in the install process - make a big NTFS partition and put most of my data there so it can be accessed from both OS X (with Paragon) and Windows? And Time Machine wouldn't back it up as long as it's NTFS, right?

a. Get a USB disc the same size or better larger than your internal HD
b. Download Carbon Copy Cloner (free)
c. Clone the internal HD to the external disc
d. Reboot with the 'option' key held down. Choose the external disc to check that the clone was successful and is bootable.
e. If yes, reboot again, hodling down the 'option' key. Choose the internal HDD.
f. Dismount/eject the external HD and disconnect it from your computer.
g. Go to app store and download Lion.
h. When the download is complete, DO NOT run it. First, copy the file (Applications > Lion Install.app) to another location on your disc (the downloads folder will do). This is because after you run the installer it will delete itself from the Applications folder, and you may very well either want/need to do a re-install later without wanting to wait for hours for the download.
i. Run Applications > Lion Install.app -
Booting Bootcamp partion from restored Bootcamp partition
My Boot Camp XP installation is no longer bootable after I restored from a backup I created in Disk Utility 2 days ago. The Bootcamp partition is not listed as bootable when I boot my MacBook and hold the OPTION key. When I configure my computer to boot from that partition in System Preferences, I receive a black screen with message "No bootable device"
I installed XP in Bootcamp and it was working fine. I needed to re-format my hard drive, and I used Disk Utility to make a backup of the partition. After re-formatting my hard drive, I restored the partition from the .dmg backup images, and all files are available.
All files are present as they were when my hard drive booted 2 days ago. I belive this is simply a matter of making the partition bootable. Can anyone help?After analyzing and trying things out, I was able to solve this. It seems that Boot Camp does not flag the partition as ACTIVE immedately after Boot Camp creates the new partition from windows.
Assuming you already have a .dmg image of your previous Windows Boot Camp partition, do the following:
:: 1
Use Boot Camp to allocate the new space. Don't use Disk Utility because the MBR will not be configured properly
:: 2
Use Disk Utility to restore your .dmg image to the new Boot Camp partition you just created. Be sure to run IMAGES --> SCAN IMAGE FOR RESTORE in Disk Utility before restoring. You may need to unmount the Boot Camp partition in Disk Utility before it begins to restore.
:: 3
Use fdisk in Terminal to mark the Boot Camp partition active. First, enter the fdisk MBR edit mode by running the following:
$sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0
Ignore the error "could not open MBR file /usr/standalone/i386/boot0: No such file or directory". Then, determine which partition number to mark active by running the following (*in bold*):
fdisk: 1> show
Your windows partition should be #3 labeled "Win95 FAT-32". Now, mark the partition active:
fdisk: 1> *flag 3*
Partition 3 marked active.
fdisk:*1> write
Device could not be accessed exclusively.
A reboot will be needed for changes to take effect. OK? [n] y
Writing MBR at offset 0.
fdisk: 1> exit
Now, reboot and hold the OPTION key and Windows should be listed as a bootable option. -

Here is a post I assembled for another with a similar problem:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Workarounds:
1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Upgrade to an Intel compatible versions of your software, or find alternatives that will open your data files;
3. Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:
