Restored Safari bookmarks keep disappearing

I restored my iPhone to get rid of the bloated "Other" category. In the process, I had first disconnected Safari on the iPhone from iCloud syncing before deleting bookmarks and the reading list. I did a full backup on iTunes before restoring. It remains that way. Nevertheless, the next time I started Safari on my iMac, all my bookmarks disappeared, in favor of the original defaults. I restored the bookmarks from Time Machine but every time I add a new bookmark, they disappear again, right before my eyes. It spills over to my MacBook Air, which I use when I'm way from my desk.
I really need those bookmarks. I have an .html list I exported as well so they are safe, just not convenient.
I have Safari 7.0.5. The recent update has not prevented this problem from recurring.
Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

Using iTunes and using iCloud simultaneously will only cause problems for Safari bookmarks. It's one or there other.
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud then switch Safari off then back on.
On your iMac open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Safari then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the bookmarks.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.

how to restore safari bookmarks after ios. update

The only way is to restore from a useful backup, if you have one.
If you sync the iPad to iTunes and use Time Machine regularly, you would likely have the appropriate backup to restore from. In that case:
Restore the iPad backup set from Time Machine from a date before you overwrote the bookmarks. The location of the backup is ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ (you can get to it by pressing Cmd+Shift+G in the Finder and entering this path).
Connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from the backup.
If you use iCloud Backup, then you can restore from iCloud and choose which date's backup you'd like to restore from. You can check if you're using iCloud Backup by opening the Settings app on the iPad, then going to the iCloud submenu and looking at the status right below "Storage & Backup", where it would say "iCloud Backup is off." (or "iCloud Backup is on.", as the case may be).
In any case, keep in mind that restoring from a backup means you lose all application data changes after the date of the backup.

  • How to restore safari bookmarks in yosemite??

This question is answered somewhere... but I cannot seem to find the answer and I've seemingly read just about every article on the topic...
I updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite last night which wiped out all of my Safari bookmarks (which I use daily) and restored bookmarks from 2 years ago. I tried to pull the bookmarks from my iPhone 6 (which were synced to the current and most up to date bookmarks) but somehow wiped those out and synced them with what is now on my MacBook (now not my iPhone and MacBook have the outdated bookmarks from 2 years ago).
I have tried "iPhone Backup Extractor" and "JuicePhone" to pull the bookmarks from previous backups and that did not work. I've even tried going through iCloud, which I rarely use, and ran into some dead ends there.
Please help, I am at my wit's end. Any help would be immensely appreciated!!

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist. Restore that from your backup.

  • How to Restore Safari Bookmarks with Time Machine in Lion

    Hi -
I want to restore my Safari bookmarks.
I am running Lion and have a Time Machine backup with the correct bookmarks.plist file.
The problem - as I see it - is that the "Library" folder - where the Safari bookmarks.plist file is located - no longer shows up (by default in Lion) in the Home folder.
I fixed it so that "Library" does now show up in the home folder but since it was not set to show "Library" at the time the backup I need was done, it doesn't show up in the Home folder for the backup that I need.
I have tried restoring the entire Home folder but this is not restoring my bookmarks for some reason.
I even tried restoring the entire hard drive but that did not work either!
It would seem that the "library" folder - even if it was hidden - would be restored when I did the entire Home folder or the entire hard drive.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Brillianrt! Worked like a charm.
Then I found an easy solution to alphabetizing that doesn't require 3rd party software in a Macworld article:
"Without resorting to external tools or dragging links about, it’s actually fairly simple to order the list. Make sure you can see a Finder window, or your Desktop, and the Safari Bookmarks window at the same time. Now just drag the folder (or folders) you want sorted from the Safari window to your Desktop—you’ll see the folder appear when you release the mouse. Switch to the Finder, and open each folder. Set the view to List view, and then close the window (not strictly necessary, but I’m a neat freak).
Now drag the folder back into Safari’s Bookmarks window; Safari will treat it like a newly-imported folder of bookmarks and add it to the list. Open the folder in the Bookmarks window, and you’ll see your neatly-sorted bookmarks."

  • Restoring Safari Bookmarks

I'm trying to restore my Safari bookmarks using Time Machine. No matter how far back I go with Time Machine, I get the same bookmark file (dated Feb 09 2007)
I know I've edited it since then but can't fine it.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

What date's shown on the current one in /Users/username/Library/Safari/? If none stored in TM are between that date and Feb 9, I suspect a hosed TM database. I can't help with solving that issue since I don't use TM.

  • Time machine trying to restore Safari Bookmarks - can't

SO I've lost a folder in my Safari bookmarks. So I wanted to restore them from Time Machine. But with Apple hiding theUser Library in Lion - can't get to them on the backup!! Pretty insane really.
So any idea how I get to a later backup in Time Machine to see the hidden User Library that in it's wisdom Apple doesn't want us too get to? Which just floors me.

I did the terminal command to unhide it again. But every time Apple issues an OS update - it's hidden again. And the backups on the TC the library is hidden.
SO so far I haven't found a way to access the User library to get to the Safari folder.
I can't find a command to now show a user folder on the TC drive.

  • Restoring safari bookmarks from time machine

Somehow bookmarks in one of my Safari bookmark folders got deleted in the course of attempting to move the folder. When I go into time machine to restore an earlier version of my book marks time machine does not display the contents of the caches folder where I understand the Safari bookmarks are kept, i.e. ~/library/caches/metadata/safari/bookmarks..
Is there a way to get time machine to display contents of the caches and metadata folders? If not, is there another way to restore an earlier version of my Safari bookmarks? I have separate backups on external drives in addition to the time machine backup.
    Thanks,

See if suggestions here help you

  • My bookmarks keep disappearing after a pup

A few days ago I collected a pup installer trying to convert a youtube vid to mp3. I got rid of it using Malwarebytes, however it still had unwanted browser add ons, which Firefox questioned and I deleted. Every time I opened a browser these add ons tried to reinstall, so I downloaded a new copy of Firefox using IE but the problem persisted. I ran a full scan using MBAM and one using SAS and nothing appearing. So I installed the 3 month old copy of Firefox I had saved and then let it update. Perfect, problem solved, I thought. I then used Mozbackup restore from a pre-virus time, which I have used for years, and had all my bookmarks back. However, now, every time I open a browser all of my Bookmarks are there, but if I close the browser and re-open later, all of my bookmarks disappear in front of me. I have tried restoring them and then doing another backup using Mozbackup while they're all there but it's not helping. I can't restore my bookmarks every time I open a browser. Please help?

  • Safari bookmarks have disappeared

    HI,
My husband & I have just replced out 4S iphones under warranty. Mine was software issues where i was told to disregard my last back up and set up as a new phone. That was fine because a lot of my stuff was saved on icloud so that was transferred to my new phone. Now the issue is when my husbands phone was replaced, 4 days after mine, i have now lost all my Safari bookmarks. Like they have all gone & I now have my husbands instead. No matter what i do i can't get my bookmarks back. Any tips?

goto the settings and safari and delete all cookies, history and cache.

  • My bookmarks keep disappearing, even after they are restored

I can not get Firefox to stop deleting my bookmarks. I have to restore from an older file to get them back. If I quit the software and restart, sometimes the bookmarks are there and other times they are not. After getting them back yet again and then saving them out for backup, if I try to restore from the backup, it's empty... no bookmarks!
This is really starting to tick me off. Any ideas that will fix this bug?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • How to restore safari bookmarks

My iPad mini keeps losing my bookmarks and history in Safari. Someone told me how to reset it, which worked, but I can't remember how iot was done, nor can I find the information again. Why aren't vital skills like this included in the user guide? Where can one find all these secret tricks?

Someimtes closing Safari completely and rebooting the iPad works for this.
To close Safari - Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
