Restored server - Can't boot [URGENT]

Hello!
I need to move/migrate a Windows Server 2008 R2 (Domain controller, alone) to new hardware.
So to do this i have:
* Maked a full backup of the old server, with Windows Server Backup
* Restored the backup on the new server, using a Windows Server 2008 R2 install disc.
But when i start the new server this is happening: http://goo.gl/2TcaUQ (Skip to 1:30)
Here you see at the last second that the server is rebooting.
* I tried to start the server with boot logging, but the log file is empty.
* I tried startup repair, but i did not find any tool (used a tool to remove local password) See here: http://goo.gl/NOg7Yb
But if i do a new install of Windows Server 2008 R2 the server it starting just fine.
But I need all applications,
SQL Server, domain setup
etc. on the old server.
What to do?

Hi,
If you move/migrate a Windows Server 2008 R2 to new hardware, you need to perform a Bare Metal Restore and the two physical computer must have the same make, model, and configuration (identical hardware).
For more detailed information, please refer to the article below:
How to restore a Windows installation or move it to different hardware

You could use ADMT tool to migrate Domain controller, please see:

  • After Restore I Can't Boot

I work in a company IT department.  I started in May and at that point had this guy who worked with me (who doesn't now) tell me that I needed to install this software called LikeWise.  It's used for pushing rules out across a network to get peoples passwords changed periodically and other stuff I'm sure.  This involved my user profile being migrated or changed in some way, with the effect of having added me to the company domain.  So when I log in I would then have to type "Domain/rwallace" as my username.  So this complicated the more simple user name that I had been using and as a result I became one of the only people with this program.  Then recently in trying to get access to this machine through LogMeIn I was unable to get it to accept my Mac creds and so I decided to take LikeWise off.  Mistake.  Because I did not have an alternitive admin account (or any for that matter) I had no recourse when I went to log in upon a restart and found that no longer were my credentials working.  They didn't work without the domain, they just didn't take.  So then I'm thinking this program which had pulled a switcheroo on my user identity in order to control it dropped my user name or something...something changed is what I'm saying, so a year later here is the issue.  At this point I can not log in, so I take my external hard drive with the Time Machine backup on there and go tell it to restore.  After coming in this morning, after having letting it run all night, I just see the gray screen with the apple and the spinney thing going.  So I force turn off the machine, and this same screen comes up again.  Did I do the restore wrong?  I did not wipe the drive first, but told it that it could delete whatever it needed to in the restore setup process.  I did boot off the external drive, but it started the same way as if I would have from the recovery partition or the Install DVD so that doens't seem like a bad place to have started.  However this is was upgraded to Lion, so my install DVD reflects the Snow Leopard OS.  What can I do to get my time machine to successfully create a bootable instance of itself on my HD after this sort of failure?

I know that this issue has come up on the board before, but as i search through them I have yet to find one that has been solved that is applicable to what I am doing here.  Perhaps I just need an answer extrapolated or repurposed for my needs to be able to get a working machine sooner then later.

  • Can't add drivers to Server 2012 R2 boot image in WDS

    Hi all.
I want to use my "old" Windows Server 2012 (not R2), WDS to deploy new R2 servers but i can't add driver package to the R2 boot image, it comes out with error code: 0xc0000135 no matter what drivers i use.
Without network drivers i can't boot the image on my physical servers, i've tried on a virtual machine where it works just fine.
I can't use the old boot image to install R2, then it comes with error: "Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass [offlineServicing]." when it tries to install it on both virtual and physical servers.
My initial thought is that the WDS server has to be on a R2 server but i can't find anything that proofs that.
Can someone confirm that non R2 WDS is not supported to R2 or does anyone have an idea to a solution?
    Thank you in advance.

Okay maybe not a solution but i installed a new WDS server on R2 and then there was no problem adding driver package to to boot image.
So i was able to confirm my theory that it's not supported to deploy R2 from a non-R2 WDS server. If anyone can make it work please let me know but until then i think this is the only way.
If I understand your description of the issue, the problem is that you are trying to update a WinPE 5.0 WIM with a version of the ADK that services WinPE 4.0 images.  Installing the new Windows Server 2012 R2 server caused SCCM to use the version of the
ADK that services WinPE 5.0 images.  You should be able to deploy them fine from the other server, but you can only service them from the new one.  You will not be able to service the older WinPE 4.0 images from the new server either.

  • IPhone 4S stuck at DFU mode, can't exit, can't restore, can't boot.

    Ok so,
My iPhone 4S wouldn't boot up one day, so I decided to restore it using iTunes. First attempt was unsuccesfull, but I did it the second time. The next day it wouldn't boot up again (probably cause I restored an iTunes backup I made before). So I decided to restore it again, but after 100 attempts (literally) it wouldn't restore. ITunes is stuck on "Waiting for iPhone" screen, and the progress bar on the phone is stuck at 0%, not moving at all! According to tinyumbrella, my iPhone is in DFU mode, but I get a black screen and I can't boot up. I was using iOS 6.1.3 and I WAS NOT JAILBROKEN!
Things I tried but didn't work:
    - Holding home button and power button together in all possible ways.
    - Trying the "Fix recovery" option in tinyumbrella.
    - Holding home button before plugging in the phone to the pc.
    - Redownloading iOS 7 off the internet and trying to restore it via iTunes.
    - Using 3 different computers (1 desktop and 2 laptops).
    - Disabling my anti virus and firewall.
    - Using REC BOOT to enter / exit recovery.
    - Trying to recharge the phone, but it wouldn't do a thing.
    - Restarting my pc.
    - Let my iPhone off for 10 or more hours.
    - Removing SIM card before trying to restore.
    - Redownloading iTunes and updating it.
    - TRYING 100 TIMES THE "Update and restore" OPTION IN ITUNES 11.
I did nothing wrong, it suddenly decided to stop responding and to stop powering up. People get this when they're jaibroken but I wasn't. It's been 2 months more than 45 days of me trying to fix it, but no luck .
    Please HELP!

I actually got it for 2 euros from a prize machine at my local mall . That was like 4-5 months ago but I never experienced any problems with it. You could tell the iphone was original, so it wasn't fake...

  • Need help setting up a netboot/net restore server

I am looking for a link and or step by step instructions to set up a netboot net restore server in Mac OS X.4 server.
    I am using a G5 1.6SP with Mac OS X.4 server
My goal is to put OS images on this server so i can quickly restore computers with a clean OS install via network
I have created the images already and currently use a fire wire drive to boot fromso i can restorethe computers with the images storedon the fire wire drive..the server would allow me to install via network.
So once again if someone can point me to a resource that provides step by step instructions i would appreciate.

Tony has pointed you in the proper direction. One interpretation of what he's pointed you to:
Here's what has worked for me in the past.
When I do netinstalls, I do the following. Disclaimer - I know this is not the only way, but it works...
Set up one client exactly as I want it, apply all updates, run fsck, repair permissions, and test it out thoroughly.
I then boot the client in target mode, and attach it directly to the server with a firewire cable and use the image utility on the server to make an image. Follow the prompts to make it a netboot/netinstall image. From the clients, choose the network install image in StartupDisk (or hold the N key when you boot the client, or hold the option key for the bootmanager). You'll obviously need to enable netboot on the server, and it does rely on DNS to be running correctly on the server, just in case you weren't aware. This is not the only way to go, but it should work.

  • Server does not boot

    Dear Sir
I have use Main Server PowerEdge 1900 with operating system SQL Server 2008 r2 the  main server does not boot after reading all system files a message appear choose recovery mood
1- restore from system image recovery
    2- Command Prompt
i have important data in it and a database runing in the server machine how can i boot the server properly without having any backup.
How can i pick up data from command prompt.

The bad part is that you do not have backups. The good part is that you can recover your data by using a bootable device and copying them to another location.
However, for the DB part, you might want to ask them here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=sqldisasterrecovery&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc

  • 10.4.11 Server won't boot past hfs mount

Any ideas how to repair an OS X Server 10.4.11 system that won't boot past the gray Apple logo/spinning bars? Verbose mode stalls after the line "hfs mount: enabling extended security on <startup volume name>"
The machine will boot from the OS X Server install DVD (10.4.7 Universal). Disk Utility permissions and repair indicate no problems with the startup volume.
If I am unable to resolve the problem with the existing system, what is the best method for re-installing the server OS without having to manually re-construct the network configuration, accounts and permissions? I have a configuration settings file and a relatively recent Open Directory Archive disk image.

I have been unable to find any way to get past the boot stall, so I re-installed OS X Server 10.4 and restored from my Open Directory archive. Had to recreate shares.
Any tips on what plists or other System components should be cleaned out to try recovering from boot problems like this were there is nothing wrong with the disk and you can't boot into single user mode?

  • My 10.9.0.1 internal mac was ruined after the installation of Windows Server 2012 on boot camp

Hi Everyone. I've been trying to install Windows Server 2012 on my boot camp. Well, soon after the 2012 was installed, my mac os 10.9.0.1 was ruined. When I pressed on the option key while the imac was booting, I can see the icon of "10.9.0.1 recovery". But after I chose it, the apple tried very hard to boot it up with a progress bar below the apple icon. The computer shut down itself after the progress bar reached the end. I've tried boot it up with the installation CD and tried to repair the Macintosh HD in Disk Uitilites but no use. It was said the hard drive cannot be repaired and better be reformat. Currently I can only boot up my mac from my SuperDuper external clone drive. Anyone could give me wise advices to fix this problem please?

The "wise advices" I can offer are:
Read the Boot Camp documentation before trying to reinstall Windows Server. Windows Server is not supported by Boot Camp
Erase and reformat your hard drive. Reinstall OSx then restore your data from your backup.
Use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox to install Windows Server

  • I am having trouble sending bulk emails (less than 100 at a time) on my gmail account using group names created from my address book.  I use Mail on my I-Mac.  When I try to send out a bulk email, the message shows up that my server can't send them, etc.

I am having trouble sending bulk emails from a Mail Group (less than 100 at a time) on my gmail account.  They come back saying the server can't recognize the data and try again with selected server or try later or edit message, all of which I have attempted a number of times, including re-booting the computer.  I am wondering if there is something wrong in my Address Book?  I have check Apple Preferences, and Mail Preferences and all seems in order.  I can send to any of the individual addresses, but not in a group.
    Thanks for your help.

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

  • Mac Mini (2011) can't boot, no screen display.

Hi, my mac mini (2011) finally won't startup today.
It was since two weeks ago, the mini goes freeze very frequently, I discovered that the fan speed was always below 2000rpm, meantime, the CPU temp was around 80-90 degree, it is around 25 degree in the room, last Friday I installed a software named smcfancontrol, which can manually speed up the fan, and it seems better, and the computer runs faster, I think the CPU is running in full speed.
Today, I opened a video to watch, after about ten minutes, the computer goes freeze again, and of course I force powered it down by pressing the power button on the back, then the tragic came:
    - when I try to boot up the machine, the front light turns on, then off with a "ka" sounds like the hard drive shutting down(force powering it down)
    - after around two seconds, the light goes on again, and the fan smoothly goes to full speed, there is nothing shows up on screen, as well as no apple boot up sound.
    - I tried to reset smc (power down, unplug power cable, wait 15 seconds, plug in power cable, wait 5 seconds, power on), no luck.
    - I tried to reset pmu (at least internet says it's pmu, it seems apple website did not mention how to reset pmu on mac mini, power down, hold power button for five seconds, power on), no luck
    - I also tried to unplug the memory, try with every single one to boot, no luck
    - last Friday, when I can still boot up the computer, I thought there might too much dust, I removed the fan and cleaned it up, it looks a small piece of plastic on the fan plug were damaged, but the smcfancontrol app still can control its speed, therefore I think the fan is OK.
    - during many retry, there was one time, the fan goes full speed at startup, with no front light off,(my current status is fan goes to full speed gently).
    - the computer is connected with an AV amplifier, then output to a plasma TV, when the computer is powered off, the TV displays a background of amp, when I startup the computer, although no video output from computer, the TV goes to a "No Signal" status, I dont's think this is related to my problem.
the computer is out of warrentee, but bought only for less than two years... I really want it back to work, can someone help me? many thanks!
wish you all have a good day.

Hard to troubleshoot when you can't turn on the computer on any more.  One option is to bring it to an Apple store to have them look at it.  They will tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost to fix.  I have never heard of them charging for a diagnostic and an estimate.
If your CPU was running hot all the time and your fan had small plastic pieaces, in my opinion, something got fried.  The mini is so compact, that the excessive heat may have also over heated your hard drive causing thd "ka" sound.
If you decide to continue in to use a Mac Mini as a media server, may I would suggest using iStat to monitor it.  I use iStat on my 2011 Mac Mini Media Server to monitor CPU usage, all sensors, and internet incoming and outcoming.

  • OSX 10.6.8 server will Not Boot

Hi my 10.6.8 server will not boot.  System is a 2009 Mac pro.  I have run disk utility from the original server software install disk, ran repair disk, and repair disk permissions.  Get some acl found errors have read that they most often are erroneous, Still got the same errors after permission repairs.  While booting in verbose mode get the following messages before it stops:
    kern.maxprocoeruip: 266 -> 2400
launchctl: Couldn't stat("/library/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.asterisk.plist"): Nosuch File or directory (note: removed asterisk from this system months ago)

launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd: /ect/mac_ini/dashboardadvisoryd.plist
launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd: /ect/mach_init.d/pilotfish.plist
Unexpected error triggering kextd volume watching.
/: Couldn't get description from Disk Arbitration..
I did read on another post here to try to reinstall the os, however when I try to install over the operating system it says I am trying to install an older os and it will not let me install in the same volume....  Although I am confident I have all the data on backups as well have timemachine backups, I would rather not have to erase and install this machine.
Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I found that I had a bad harddrive, or at least that is what I think happened..  I did have a time machine backup as well, although in hindsight, I should have made some manual backups of my open directory and the databases hosted on the server.  In any case I ended up purchasing "server grade" harddrives and reinstalling the OS on to the new blank hard drives, I was then able to recover from my time machine backup, however, I did have the issue of the restore going over 100%, I tried this several times and the same result with no end after hours and hours.   After reading through various forums I found that clicking the mouse button for about 10 minutes straight once it hit 100% finally worked, I was lucky that the Time machine backup had good data on it since I have read several posts saying that Time machine doesn;t backup directoies or any "open files" very well, however I had no problems after recovering from the backup.  I do however now backup or archive my directory everyday, and I rely on Filemaker to backup its own databases, however I still use time machine as well...

  • Mavericks can only boot in safe mode

In can only boot my Imac 27' (end of 2009) in safe mode.
The problem started in Lion, when the computer suddenly froze.
I upgraded (in safe mode) to Mavericks 10.9.2, took away all Launch Agents and Daemon that are not Apple (both in System and User's), done all the permission repairs, reset memory, fsck and turn the plug off the computer. The only thing I was not able to do is the hardware test (for some reason, the command + D to access the internet testing is not working). I have no external devices or cables attached.
My 2TB hard drive is divided in 3 partitions. I have got 2 user accounts.
Even with all this, I can only start in safe mode.
Here is a copy of the log. If anyone can help, I would be grateful !

I have tried a few other tricks from the experts in the discussion boards (including removing all preference files that are non apple, remove all non apple extensions), still no way to start up the computer other than safe boot.
I would like to try and turn off bonjour, as it seems like a MDNSResponder Error. But need a green light from any of you experts.
I am posting the latest system log (on this one, I forgot to unplug the printer)
    Please help !!!

  • Portege M200 - Keyboard is not working and I can't boot from CD/DVD

    Hi
I recently tried installing VM Player on my Toshiba M200. When I rebooted my machine I found my network connections did not work. I tried to uninstall the VM Player but it failed half way. As the program had created a number of virtual network connections which I could not delete I went into the registry and delete 20 or so entries I thought where related.
I rebooted and found my HID Keyboard and Wireless devices not functioning. So I began using the softward ketyboard to try and fix the problem. I was able to reboot and login using the software keyboard until I did a restore to last normal boot setting. At which point, instead of getting my login window I get a message box asking me to press Ctrl-Alt-Del. When I do so using the software keyboard I get another window saying because of security I should press the Windows Security Key instead of the Ctrl-Alt-Del. When I press the Windows Security Key Button on the bottom right side of the screen nothing happens.
What can I do. I have also tried attaching a USB CD drive (Philips) but cannot get the notebook to boot from it. I get an error message (so I have got it looking for CD boot drives) saying the notebook cannot find the drive. The CD lights up during bootup but only for a sec.
I am desperate so please let me know what options I have or what I can do about this. The physical keyboard works during the bootup until the Windows first booting screen appears. No Caps lock or such working by the time I get to the login screen.
Thanks in advance for any advise you can provide.

    Hi
A long story about your issue... I think the reason of this is why you have deleted some registry keys. If you delete something in the Windows registry you should really know what you do. You can damage the complete Windows system!
So I think this is the reason why the keyboard doesnt anymore.
In the user manual I have founded that the CD-ROM booting option is only available with optional optical disk drive.
So for me it sounds like that your USB CD drive is not compatible to the notebook

  • Can't boot my device OS or Bios

    hello ..
First of all my deice is HP Pavilion 14-b109sx Ultrabook
    her's what happened ..
well ... I just bought this new notebook ,Its really light and it booted really fast and the design is good ... problem is i wanted to make a second partition out of C partition which was more than 600 GB
So i opened disk management from windows trying to shrink it to a 100 GB partition then make a second partition next to this one .. unfortunately windows couldn't shrink to less than 300GB ... that wasn't fine by me i needed these 200GB so i downloaded some tool that allows such a change , meaning i forced windows to take that action even when it kept telling me that its not a good idea
that tool needed a reboot to make the change
    1-resize C partition to 100GB
    2-Create new Drive 500GB
(numbers are not exactly as i wrote them its a little bit more i just don't remember the exact values)
I rebooted .. when it booted again that tool had a preboot operation to change C before it's mounted .. I guess thats what happened .. i dunno. However , the tool didn't complete the job , It closed immediately and the notebook rebooted to findout windows 8 complaining and not able to start
i thought i was the only one who came across this problem but when i googled i found out that this oftenly happen when you make any change to c partition or when you try to dual boot windows 8 with any other OS
I did found a solution to this using a tool that does automatic repair to the C partition to get the bootmgr fixed correctly
*** I had to enable an option from Bios called Legacy Support
***When that option is Enabled I must reboot to be able to get to bios again otherwise i keep booting to winodws when ipress F10 to get into Bios same as recovery and same for F9 (boot device option) i need to open up winodws and restart to be able to get into any of these
before i get started with the repair i resized C partition as it was before Shrinking
the tool made made me able to boot windows 8 sucssesfully  but not recovery
when i try to boot into recovery using F11 stroke it continues booting like i did nothing at all (BTW it says System recovery mode at the lower left corner when i press F11)
I Tried to boot into recovery from Hp recovery tool at windows but it said (Disabled : recovery partition is removed) under the recovery option so i used the same tool i used to shrink the partition to find any lost partitions on the hard drive since there was 400MB unallocated at the beggining of the HDD and it did find partition named WINRE , I restored it then the (Disabled : recovery partition is removed) note was removed and i could initiate booting into recovery mode , when i did it rebooted the notebook but i got the same result booting into windows instead .
i found threads online saying if you hit the restart button while pressing shift key you will get to recovery menu , and it did got me into recovery menue with all the options as before but once i try to do reset or even opening command prompt i got an error with a code 80070490 asking me to restart (Like i had any other option -_-)
At this point i should've known that I MUST ask for help before i make things even worse , but i Didn't
I found another forum suggesting using EasyBCD to correct bootmgr settings,  I downloaded it and i found an option to automatically fix mbr settings (I love anything that says automatically ) i pressed it and rebooted
    now
    I can't get to Bios
    I can't boot Windows
    I can't boot recovery
    I can't boot anyother Device
    (I ruined it)
that was the story of my life
All i ever wanted was a second Partition , I didnt know it was a complicated task undwer Windows 8
Currently i had the Legacy support Disabled so i can't even boot any other usb drive to fix this
removing HDD is not an option (Warrenty will be void)
There was something written about UEFI i didnt really understand it but they said it's a new alternative boot method that will replace Bios so i figured it had something to do with Bios not being able to work
I need help ... my notebook is as useful as A brick right now ...
If any further information is needed just tell me
    thank you

    Hello Rhythm0303
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that the computer appears to be ruined after trying to add a partition. Unfortunately, I do have to agree with you. There is no other valid troubleshooting  can suggest. Since it is new, I would contact HP phone support for hardware assistance.
You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks for bringing this issue to the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Can't boot off Apple Hardware Test disk

Can anyone suggest why my laptop won't boot off of its Apple Hardware Test disk anymore? I have not tried it in years, but want to try now. I have the original, and a copy I made years ago, and neither will boot. I can select them at startup disks in that preference pane in OSX, but then it fails to find it, and boots into OSX. I can boot into OS9 on the hard drive. I was able to partially boot off of a different AHT disk from my 12" Albook G4, but it gave the message that I can't use that disk since it is not meant for the Tibook. One idea is that TechTool tells me that "macintosh startup file was absent", and the Help file states:
"The Startup file is intended for use by systems that do not have built-in ROM support for booting from HFS Extended volumes. The first eight extents of the Startup File are stored in the Volume Header. This makes them easy to locate and read into memory. This file contains information used by the computer’s ROM to determine what program will boot the computer. In almost every case, this will be configured to point to the preferred System."
But it does not tell me how to restore this Startup file.
-how can i get my startup file back?
-my computer boots fine off the hard drive, so is this file used only to boot off a CD?
-any ideas why i can't boot off my AHT CD?

Hi, t. (That alias of yours sure is a mouthful.) I think in your shoes I would pose the question to the tech support people at Micromat (TechTool's developer). It's their error message, after all, and they should be able to explain it to you in as much detail as you need. Perhaps they'll shed some light on the original problem in the process.
