i have had to restore my computer due to virus i have lost all my itunes music when i put on 1 of my ipod's it wipes my ipod like my library how do i upload ipod music into itunes

After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

Ok, I know, I know I should have backed up more frequently etc etc.....but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Basically my hard drive has crashed and I have had to completely replace it. Obviously my itunes on my pc is now completely empty but my ipod has 20GB worth of songs on it..........
....therefore, my question is, how can I populate the itunes library on my new pc with the songs currently only stored on my ipod??Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

How did you get the music onto the iPad if it is not purchased music and it was not imported via iTunes?
Manually manage content is for adding content to the iPad from the computer. It is in the summary tab in iTunes.
If you want to transfer content from the iPad to your computer (if I understand you correctly) - this will help.

If iTunes is open on your computer, then when you insert a CD into its disk drive it should be recognised by iTunes and you should be prompted as to whether to import it into your library or not - there is a video 'how-to' here , and help pages for iTunes 10 on windows and iTunes 11 on windows.
You should then be able to sync it to your iPhone if you want it on it (syncing music). -

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. If you sync with another iTunes library/computer the media from the iPod will be deleted and replaced with the media on the second computer.

Use the computer you normally sync with to download the desired music. Then import them to iTunes on your computer and sync your iPad to the computer to transfer the songs to your iPad.

My PC hard drive died and I have replaced it. Need to import the music on my classic iPod, but get a message that it's synced with another library (old hard drive). How do I import the music onto the new hard drive? Senuti (one respondent's suggestion) is just for macs. I have no old hard drive to copy to the new hard drive (another respondent's suggestion.)

Hi, I lost my entire music library when my hard drive crashed 2 wks ago. It's all on my iPod, though..but the songlist appears gray.
