Restoring 2nd audio track after deleting?

In a recent shoot on a Red One, I put the lav audio on mono track 1, and a boom mic on mono track 2.  After importing it into Premiere Pro and placing my clips into a sequence, I felt the boom mic track 2 sounded too echo-y, so I deleted it from the sequence timeline and proceeded to editing my video using track 1 audio only. Well, now the client wants to use the boom mic track.
Is there an way easy way to restore the the 2nd audio track while keeping my edits in place?

Well, it's not really easy or automatic, but if you park the playhead at the first frame of a clip in a sequence, target the track, and then hit M to match frame, you'll load up the master clip for that clip instance into the Source Monitor. From there, you can edit the whole clip or just the audio portion back into the sequence; it should be already marked with an in and out point to match the duration of the sequence clip.

how do i mute an audio track without deleting it?

There have been a few recent posts, where Audio Mixer settings are not "held," in PrE 11. Those cited problems seem to be Project-specific, in that Audio Mixer works, as expected, in a new Project - just not the one, causing issues.
I do not know if there is a glitch/Bug in Audio Mixer, or if the users are doing something that is "disconnecting" Audio Mixer in some way.
As a test, create a New Project, Import a Video file with Audio (Muxed Video Stream and Audio Stream), and test Audio Mixer, and the Mute function there. How does Audio Mixer work in that Project? Does the Muting of the Audio "stick?"
Second test: in your existing Project, Select all the Clips on that Audio Track #1, and drag them to Audio Track #2, or another, empty Audio Track, and test the Mute for that new Track, in Audio Mixer. How does that work for you? Does the Mute stick?
    Good luck,

  • 2nd audio track at 12-bit lost when importing into FCE?

I have got some DV-tapes with finalised movies which I would like to import into FCE for a) applying some enhancements and b) then burning them onto DVD. These movies once were created with FCE but after they had been exported to DV-tape (in 12-bit manner) some additional audio was added, directly via camcorder. The issue which I have got now is that although I can easily re-import these movies into FCE, the additional audio does not appear in FCE. Also, when directly checking the imported files in FCE's Capture Scratch by using the Quicktime Player the additional audio is not there.
I tried importing into iMovie and here (as opposed to FCE) the complete audio is available, both the audio originally composed via FCE and the additional audio which has been added afterwards via camcorder. Unfortunately iMovie will crash multiple times at importing due to the large number of individual clips, btw this is the reason why I once had to give up working with iMovie and bought FCE.
Anybody has an idea how I can import into FCE the movies along with the entire audio, or is this a weak point in FCE? In case of the latter, anybody has an idea for a workaround?

"Do you have an idea how to fumble out the 2nd audio pair at a Sony TVR900 i.e. how to proceed corresponding to your advice "configure the camera to ouput the second stereo pair to another DV camera with it's audio set to match the existing"? Or did I misunderstand your advice? The user manual of the Sony camcorder is ridiculously poor.."
The user manual of course is the best (should be) place to go for info on how to operate your camera. Might be one of those direct to English translations.
My idea is to use a camera that can access the 2nd stereo pair seperately. Then dub to another camera. Usually this is done via a switch or menu system.
That's where that camera manual comes (should) in handy. Also, some cameras allow you to MIX the four tracks, if this feature is available, you could dub the MIXED audio (all four tracks) to another camera.
"e.g. iMovie (provided it does not crash)? Because then I could capture the missing audio pair 2 like that in a separated manner and import it into FCE?"
iMovie to FCE is not my first choice as the importing is accompanied with quirks of all sorts, the audio is multiplexed with the video, the audio will always need to be rendered as well. Use it as a last resort IMO.
I have have heard of third party applications that can do this job, sorry, can't recall the details.

In logic Pro, when I open up an audio track or software track and load an audio file/loop or software file loop, there is no sound. I will finally get a sound out of one of the audio or software tracks after opening at least 5 of them alternately. Is anyone familiar with this kind of bug? It's really frustrating as this takes much time to complete work.

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. • Can't switch audio tracks after updating to Yosemite

Previously, I was able to choose different audio tracks in the QuickTime Player (for instance, director commentary or stereo vs. surround sound) in Mavericks, but now after updating to Yosemite, whenever I try to change the language/track by using the on-screen shortcut or by going to View -> Languages, it shows "English" listed twice with check marks next to each.
There is no way to select one of the other because it seems both are checked, though, obviously, it only uses the first in the list.
I have used QuickTime Player to switch audio tracks on all my files before updating to Yosemite, now it doesn't work for any. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Seems like a bug. Are they aware of the issue?

Favor the route via iTunes and local storage on the computer. MUCH faster than any cloudy backup, no matter the speed of your Internet connection. No network beats the speed of a hard drive. Just make sure there's enough room on the computer before you start, must contain all that's on the iGadget.

  • Grouping a clip's mono audio tracks after capture

Every time I drag a clip to the timeline, I have to click on the clip, and link the audio tracks as a stereo pair, which is really annoying. After a while, I realized that this is because whoever captured the clips forgot to group tracks a1 and a2 together, so now the clips all have two seperate mono tracks.
Now that the clips are already captured, how do I group the two audio tracks into a stereo pair?

    Hey Red Truck,
It sounds like you're pretty much doing everything right. My guess is that if your footage was shot, "logged and transfered" with 4 mono audio tracks (like a lot of HD tapeless stuff does, XDCAM, P2) then this little trick might not actually work. If your footage was shot, logged and digitized as 2 mono tracks (again, maybe the diff being a 2 channel miniDV tape as opposed to the common 4 channel HD stuff) the trick usually works. But truthfully, once in a while I noticed it doesn't work and am still unable to explain why.
I kinda have a feeling that I've only ever used the trick on DV-NTSC and DVCPRO 50 two-channel footage and not on HD footage that typically comes in 4 channel mono off P2 and XDCAM.
I'll try to do a test at my end and see if I'm even in the ballpark on this guess. I'm also assuming you're trying this on 4-channel HD footage since you mentioned "...(or four) mono audio tracks" in your post. If you are, for the fun of it, media manage an HD clip down to DV-NTSC with 2 channel stereo audio and try the trick.
It does work as I've done it numerous times on shows in FCP when assist editors accidentally logged and batch captured hours and hours of footage as dual mono instead of stereo.

  • Can audio tracks be deleted from clips?

I would like some nice classical music playing behind my first video project. The way it is, all the clips have random voices and ambient sounds that are quite irritating. Can I simply delete the existing audio tracks (without the video being deleted with it) and replace it all with a track of music behind the entire video?
I see the audio can be turned off, and maybe that is the way to handle it but I'm worried that the bad audio may come back somehow (get unchecked. I just want to know that I am approaching this in the correct way.
    TIA,
    Ken

Tom, I've jumped into Final Cut Express HD without reading the getting started manual. What you are saying lets me know that I am going about things in the wrong way. I like the timeline because I can visually see the sequence of events and it seems natural to work there. I'll curl up with the getting started manual now that I have it printed out, and see how I am supposed to begin working on a project - doing it the right way.
Extreme thanks for all of your help. Because of the answers you and others gave to my questions, I was able to put enough together to show that indeed, this software is going to be right for a project we want to do in our company.
I'll start out by finding out what the patch panel is.

  • Restoring stereo audio track link to video track as source/destination

I've read everything I can find relevant in discussions & manuals but can't figure out how to get my two audio tracks (stereo) linked back to video track as destinations, as they once were, with video and audio source/destination tabs joined. In the patch panel (when I started this morning) I noticed that only A1 destination button had an a1 source. There was no a2 Source button to join to A2 Destination.
In my groping around I managed to also make the a1 source button dissapear as well. Link and Stereo Pair are checked in the Modify menu. Linked Selection button is on in Timeline.
What the heck am I doing wrong here and how do I get those Source buttons to reappear? Thanks for whatever advice you guys can give.
    - Frazzled Idiot

"how do I get those Source buttons to reappear?"
The vn and an source tabs appear and disappear in the timeline depending on the clip in the viewer: if it is only video, there is only v1, if it is only stereo audio you have a1 and a2, if you have a standard clip audio + video you have v1, a1 and a2, and so on. Just depends on the clip in the viewer.
If you had only a1 source, it means that you probably had your clip unlinked, your stereo pair unlinked and you loaded only one of the 2 stereo tracks to the viewer. If you want to edit them back together select the video and 2 audio tracks in the timeline and cmd-L (link video to audio) and opt-L (link stereo pair).
After that when you load the clip in the viewer you'l have again v1, a1 and a2 source buttons ready to use.

  • How to make a dvd with audio track after exporting using media encoder? I have 2 seperate files??

    Hello,
I need to just burn a video I finished. It's a m2v file and so I have a AC3 audio tack and a video track. I thought I was good to go, but I cannot figure out how to burn the audio and the video to the same disk! This is very annoying as the settings I have to use for export to keep video quality will give me 2 seperate files.
So, what programs do you use or recommend that allow me to add an audio track? I don't want people to have the option of switching between tracks I just want a normal track like you have when watching a movie, I mean it just plays by default.
    Thanks in adv.
    Mark

The caveats that I would issue to others are:
1.) muxed Assets often work fine, but can cause problems. Properly spec'ed. elemental streams seem to never cause problems.
2.) Encore will allow one to populate a Timeline with multiple Assets. However, it can get very confused in some cases. One is where an Audio Clip is just an Audio Unit, or two, too long, and one has a tiny gap, between their Videos. Using one Timeline per Sequence will always work, so long as the Assets are properly spec'ed.
I'm not saying that either of these WILL cause problems. Many do similar with zero issues. However, there is the potential for problems. Just use with care.
    Good luck,

  • Trouble with 2nd audio track when exporting to Quicktime - please help!

Ok - I've made my DV movie in IMovie - all ok. When I export to Quicktime the second audio track (an mp3 imported from iTune) jumps up in volume unexpectedly but always in the same place. There is no such jump in the original and I haven't put in any nodes to boost the volume etc.
    Any ideas guys??

why do you want to merge them?
If it's to apply a common fx chain, then send them to a buss, put fx on the buss, send that to another free audio channel and record it, so that you've effective bounced within Logic. Then mute the original tracks so you can change whatever you need to.

  • 2nd Audio track from merged .m4v files does not play on iPod Touch

I used Handbrake to encode two .m4v files of a concert DVD that spans two DVDs. I then took those two files and combined them into Quicktime Pro to create a single .m4v file. The file plays fine in QT but when I transfer the file to my ipod, only the first audio track (from the first file) plays. Once the video from the second file plays, the audio is silent. Here's what the movie properties look like:
Enabled Name Start Time Duration Format
    ====================================================
    Y Video Track -- 0:00:00:00 -- 2:21:53:90 -- H.264
    Y Audio Track1 -- 0:00:00:00 -- 2:21:53:90 -- AAC
    Y Audio Track2 -- 1:27:28:87 -- 0:54:24:02 -- AAC
    N Text Track -- 0:00:00:00 -- 2:21:53:90 -- Text
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dan

So basically, anytime I combine more than one mp4 file in QT7 Pro, it will always create multiple audio tracks when doing a simple "save as" (vs. export as)
Not exactly. QT has it own set of rules. As you noted, the video track had no problem merging into a single track. This would not have happened if you had merged video compressed differently or added an image/stretched image sequence. Not knowing your specific work flow or settings, I hesitate to make any claims here. Frankly, when merging audio, I normally prefer to use GarageBand when I want to create a single master audio track and still retain control of the other tracks for mixing purposes. However, I could just as well have exported the audio in the original file using QT Pro to a single audio file and used that audio track to replace both original tracks keeping both the original video and chapter tracks. It is all a matter of which work flow you consider easiest for a particular job or project.
If I've exported out my chapter file as a plain text file, how do I go about reintegrating that withing the final mp4 file using QT?
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/chaptertracks.html
The above link is a somewhat old tutorial explaining how to create a chapter text track from scratch. Since you already have the chapter track, just refer to the steps indicating how to add the text file back to your main movie file. (Ignore the step that says to set a "Preload" option as this pop-up has been removed.)

  • /new phone syncd to old /how to restore a back up after deleting it

i recently purchased a new 3g and had been using it before i synced it with my itunes. When i went to set it up it automatically syncd with my old iphone and i now have the old contacts, pics and messages and have lost everything (new contacts, pics/videos, and recent messages.) How do I restore my new phone back to the settings.
after reading apple online i deleted the old phone back up and now cant restore from that back up.
is there anything i can do?????

Transferring the backup for an existing iPhone to a new iPhone is different from syncing. The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that was being used to sync another iPhone, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone to the new iPhone, which can be declined.
Unless you created a backup for your new iPhone before transferring the backup for your old iPhone to your new iPhone, all the data that was on your new iPhone is lost and cannot be recovered.

  • How to restore Notes to I6 after deletion from I5?

I got a new iphone 6 and all notes would not transfer after quite some time. Last night I hand transferred notes one by one from old iphone 5 to new Iphone 6 using air drop. Then I deleted all notes from Iphone 5. This morning I discovered all notes were gone from iphone 6 and Iphone 5. Panic!!!
Before all this I made a back up of old iphone 5 about a month ago.
I only want to restore notes only. My son says i have to restore entire phone and he suggests restoring old iphone 5 and then air drop again. But then any new notes would be gone??? (which would be aceptable.
Looks like I was probably using live.com as the sync agent?
Any suggestions? Can I go to apple store with both iphones and will they be able to help me?
    Thanks Tom

To recover iCloud data from Time Machine, close the application and also turn wifi OFF during the recovery, to avoid syncing back the old data.  When found, copy the file and give it a new name.  Turn on WiFi, the original file will disappear again. A short time later the new file will appear in iCloud.

Alternatively, go to the home folder and select the "Show View Options" at the gear wheel icon.  Then select "Show Library Folder" at the bottom of the dialogue box.
That will take you to a folder in your user library. Then enter Time Machine with the folder highlighted.
