Restoring a SQL backup file

when attempting to restore a backup file to a SQL database file the restore failed and the error message referenced that the backup was from a "different" database.  Trying to restore a damaged database file created in the same version of
SQL 2005.  Any suggestions that would "allow" the restore to work are appreciated.

the error message referenced that the backup was from a "different" database.
When you try to restore to a different database, then you have to use the option "Overwrite existing database (WITH REPLACE)", otherwise you get this error message; it's a kind of protection, see also

Restore Windows 7 backup file to portable hard drive
I have a full system backup on an NAS - 241 zip files.
The backed up Windows 7 laptop failed irreparably, and I now have a new laptop running 8.1.
I have attempted to create a mounted drive of the old backup - but get a compatibility error from 8.1
I would like to make an accessible copy of the original Win 7 drive on a portable hard drive and access the documents, .pst files, and music files.
    Any suggestions very welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi,
To restore your file from Windows 7, you need to restore these file from Windows 7 system, then choose the feature of system restore to restore these file.
Please refer to the link below for more details about how to restore your file. Especially notice "To restore a backup made on another computer".

iTunes won't recognize my password to restore my iPhone backup file after upgrading to ios5.
Tried every password I've ever used and tried resetting my password.  Nothing works!
    Any advice?

Nope.  You obviously didn't read (or didn't remember) the User Guide.  I will include a link for you.  If you use the iPhone as Apple recommends (so that you do NOT experience data loss), frequent backups are advised, as are synching contacts/calendars with an appropriate cloud service or computer-based contact manager like Outlook.

  • SQL Server 2012 restoring database from backup file

    Hi All,

For Ex: Both PROD and DEV boxes are having "A" database. Now I am refreshing database"A" from PROD bot to DEV box with name "B". Now while restoring in SQL server 2012 I used GUI and took database name as "A" by default.
by mistake I executed the request. before completing I notice that "A" database in DEV Box went to restoring mode.
Now, in middle I stopped the query but still I am seeing database "A" is in restoring state.
Please guide me is there any way to bring database online with current data?

  • Lync Backup/Restore with SQL backup

Is it possible to backup and restore the XDS database (Lync topology and configuration information) using SQL database tools?  Technet is very confusing, it describes in great detail how to use cmdletts to export the configuration then back it up with
te regular backups.  But then at link for Backup - restore best practices  it states "The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary,
the restoration process requires only one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202184.aspx
Best Practices for Backup and Restoration
To facilitate your back up and restoration process, apply the following best practices when you back up or restore your data:
Perform regular backups at appropriate intervals. The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary, the restoration process requires only
one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost.
If you use cmdlets or the Lync Server Control Panel to make configuration changes, use the
Export-CsConfiguration cmdlet to take a snapshot backup of the topology configuration file (Xds.mdf) after you make the changes so that you won't lose the changes if you need to restore your databases.
Ensure that the shared folder you plan to use for backing up Lync Server 2010 has sufficient disk space to hold all the backed up data.
Schedule backups when Lync Server usage typically is low to improve server performance and the user experience.
Ensure that the location where you back up data is secure.
Keep the backup files where they are available in case you need to restore the data.
Plan for and schedule periodic testing of the restoration processes supported by your organization.
Validate your backup and restoration processes in advance to ensure that they work as expected.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Can't restore individual iPhone backup file via Time Machine

    Hello,
I was hoping someone here might be able to assist me. I seem to have lost my iPhone backup file, but when I access the backup files in time capsule under user, in library under mobilesync, I can't even make it that far in time capsule, all I get to is a sparse image file of the username, is there a way I can access these files without a complete restore?
    Thanks!

If you mean you're using the Finder, that's not how to restore from Time Machine.
See #15 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

  • HELP! Lost ALL my bookmarks & Bookmark Toolbar is empty. Attempts to restore from the backup files yields an error message that says, "Unable to process the backup file." Have tried opening nearly all 10 existing backups w/same result.

I was in the midst of a Firefox session w/two windows open. Nothing special about the sites. No fancy javascripts or anything. When I closed the second window and opened the "History, Show all History" pull-down, the Library screen had no data in it.
I looked for the Bookmarks.html file in my profile and it is missing. I tried renaming an old .bak file from a couple years ago and I can open it as a file and see the text of it displayed but Firefox will not recognize it as and open it as the Backups file.
Following the directions already posted - using "History, Show all History" then the "Import and Backup, Restore" process - allows Firefox to see all the backups, but trying to restore from any of them yields the "Unable to process the backup file" error message.
I have re-started my machine from a cold start - twice now.

The file that stores bookmarks is probably damaged, for details on how to fix that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox

  • "An error occurred while restoring from the backup.Files can't be restored"

My 4 month old MacBook Pro 15" running 10.6.2 lobotomized itself and I had to have a new HD put in it. I backed up the old one w/ TM on an external HD. I've tried (by the book, and with direct verbal guidance from the Help People at Apple) to restore the system and files but every time it gets to 10.2% in the restoration process and then I get this message: "An error occurred while restoring from the backup. Please restart." and under the frozen progress bar is the chilling line: "Files can't be restored." I've tried restoring from several dates on the TM backup list but it always stops at 10.2% completion. Help!

    Hi.
Start by booting from your SL install disc, and selecting Utilities from the menubar, but before going on to +Restore System from Backups,+ instead select +Disk Utility.+
Make +*absolutely certain+* that your internal HD has the GUID *Partition Map Scheme* and the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ Format (unless you're sure it should be +Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled).+
Then do a +*Repair Disk+* (not permissions) on your Time Machine drive.
If that succeeds, quit Disk Utility, then continue with the full restore (per #14 in the FAQ).
But if that finds errors it can't fix, it's possible that +Disk Warrior+ can fix them. It's about $100, and is probably a good long-term investment, but there's no guarantee.
If all else fails, go back to Disk Utility and erase your internal HD, then install OSX. When your Mac restarts, use +Setup Assistant+ to transfer your users, apps, settings, and data from your backups (see #19 in the FAQ).
Then download and instal the "combo" update to get back to 10.6.2. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959 (or http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 for 10.6.3).
Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility afterwards.

    Yes, you can.
When you list the existing backup you can see the TAG and specify that by restore and recover:

  • IPad fails to restore from iCloud backup files.

My iPad 3 would display Time Remaining from say 20 minutes, 19 minutes, ....., 2 minutes, then ramp up to 3 minutes, 4 minutes, ...., say 19 minutes (sometime to about an hour), then display a dialogue ‘Cannot Restore Backup’.
I have tried many times with my 3 different iCloud backup files.
The background why I needed to restore from iCloud was that I could not restart my iPad after a power off.
Before I powered off, I have as many as about 1,555 apps.
Not sure if this is the reason why I could not restart after power off and restore from iCloud as described above.
Did anyone come across similar symptoms and had fixed and been able to restore from iCloud?
Is Apple going to fix this in next minor iOS 6 version update or iOS 7?
    Thanks.

Your iPad backups are stored in the folder
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, option-click the Go menu. Or, just copy the above line completely and paste it in the Finder's Go > Go to Folder... field.
Quit iTunes if it is open. Navigate to that folder then "Enter Time Machine". The Backup folder will be highlighted. Go back in time and select the one you want. Restore it. Then, you can open iTunes and restore your iPad from backup.

  • Restoring my iPod backup file

Here's the scenario I find myself in: I backed up my iPod on my Windows computer, then moved it via external drive to my new MacBook, and finally restored the iPod to its original settings so that it could now be used on/with the MacBook. Now I need to restore that backup file (the extension is .bkf, which I've never seen before), but when I click on it in Finder, there's no option for me to open it or restore it. I tried importing it into iTunes to see if it would recognize the backup file and restore it, but no go.
I'm new at all this, being a new Mac owner. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've gone through the info you've provided and my problem is still not resolved.
Yes, even if the backup itself isnt for my music and apps, I went through every possible step to save my data ahead of time before the restore.
Like i said, my ipod is regularly synced so my music and apps are backed up. I also let it go through the back up again as i began the restore. Because it is regularly synced, all of my music, playlists and apps are also stored on my computer.
Even if i had to accept that my apps will need to be reorganized, im really infuriated that NONE of those apps have my personal preferences and settings saved.
Ive done ipod restores many times before, and nothing was different when i chose this latest restore. But now none of my saved backups have restored anything of use. What am i supposed to do? Why bother setting it up again if any future restores erase everything?
My internet connection went out during the restore that messed everything up, and thats the only thing that was different but i dont see how that could have affected the loss of all my personal data.
And also, I understand that if I try to download apps that I've already purchased in the iTunes store they will be recognized as already purchased and won't charge me again. But does this apply for in-app purchases? Like I have a free new app, and I chose to pay for the "upgrade to pro" in-app purchase. But since my restore, it says that app is still the free version and not the Pro version. I'm worried the only way to find out is if I purchase it again and hope I don't get an extra charge.

  • Lost booknamrks sub folders including the bookmarks after restoring from a backup file, how can i retore my bookmarks?

I was organizing my bookmarks, by mistake I deleted a folder, after that I restored from a back up file (from the library window), instead of getting my bookmarks restored, I've lost all the sub folders including the bookmarks within!!! Now i only have the bookmarks in the unsorted bookmarks folder. What went wrong here and how can i get my bookmarks back?

For the next time that this happens:
If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.<br />
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).<br />
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.<br />
If it didn't work then you can restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup.<br />
This will replace all current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.<br />
    <br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
In that case you need to export the current bookmarks to an HTML file before doing the restore and import that HTML file after you have restored the JSON backup.<br />
You can remove duplicates with the CheckPlaces extension or you can copy the existing bookmarks to the clipboard before restoring the JSON backup and Paste them back afterward.

If its BO there is a Backup and Restore guide available. Its for Rel.2 but also applicapable for XI 3.x
You should find it in the SAP SMP.
