Restoring and keeping my "stuff?"
Based on some advice in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1609372&tstart=0 I think I might want to try a restore to get the "newest" version of the firmware.
Questions though:
- If I sync/backup the iPhone before I restore it, will I be able to easily get all my stuff BACK on the iPhone when I'm done?
- Assuming that the backup does keep all my "stuff" the way it is, will it also keep all my system settings and stuff as well?
- I guess a better question might be: What will I have to "REDO" after a restore for the firmware upgrade?
iTunes creates and maintains a backup of your iPhone when syncing. The backup stores data not included with the sync process such as iPhone settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, recent calls, call favorites, and photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on the last one.
Import any photos captured by your iPhone and then sync to update your iPhone's backup if needed. The backup is updated if any of the data included with the backup has changed since the last sync as the very first step during the sync process.
iTunes content, photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone, contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks should remain on your computer and must be re-transferred to your iPhone after your iPhone is restored from the backup as part of the sync process.

Yes - all settings and data available on your iPhone not included with the sync process.

You shouldn't have to redo anything after your iPhone is restored from your iPhone's backup followed by the sync process.

My phone has stopped receiving a carrier or 3G signal from EE. Have decided to try and restore phone to factory settings, but it wouldn't let me unregister from iCloud - so I then followed advice on this forum which said to restore the phone using iTunes. The phone now keeps getting to a certain point in the restore and then error code '1669' appears. I have tried to restore on many occasions now and still nothing. How to restore and keep updated OS
Hi,
I'm looking at selling my iMac, so will obviously need to restore it and wipe any trace i ever existed on it.
I brought the iMac with Snow Leopard, then upgraded it serveral times until what im at now, Mountain Lion.
I only have the install disks that came with it, whcih are obviously for Snow Leopard.
If i sell my iMac after restoring it, it'll only have Snow Leopard on it, not Mountain Lion.
Is there a way around this?
If so can you point me in the direction of the instructions for trestoreing and keeping the latested OS intaked.
ThanksYou must sell the computer with Snow Leopard. OS X Mountain Lion is registered to your Apple ID and you can't transfer it to anyone. Apart from that, the new owner won't be able to reinstall Mountain Lion.
Follow these steps:
1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your Mac is starting.
2. Choose your language, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility.
3. Select "Macintosh HD" on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the drive.
4. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X.
5. When the installation finishes, hold the mouse while your computer is starting to eject the DVD, and turn off your computer. Remember to give the discs to the new owner.
I suggest you to tell to the new owner to update Mac OS X to the most recent version (open > Software Update), and if he/she wants, purchase OS X Mountain Lion -
I feel this way because i have an ipad. It had a passcode and now i seem to have forgotten it. I wanted to restore it but it wants me to update to IOS 7.0.4 and i dont like IOS 7.0.4 so i have IOS 6.1.3 and i like it cause IOS 7.0.4 is very bright i cant seem to be able to see in it proper. when i turn the brightness low i cant see anything it becomes too dark. Can you give itunes the capability of asking us if we want to update and restore or just restore but keep the firmware/IOS you are on.
You seem to think you are talking to Omnifocus here. The odds of actually reaching them here are practically 0%, I would guess.

I'm attempting to recover a group of lost files from Time Machine. The files are backups from a mobile app within User/LibraryMobile Documents/.
I'm able to find the lost files, but Time Machine failed to restore them after I select 'Keep Both' and then enter my Admin Password. The screen returns to the desktop and the finder window for the file I'm trying to recover, but nothing else happens.
I hope someone can help.

I had my iphone 4 stolen and have been lent an iphone 3G, I have tried to restore the phone but its coming up with error 1015 and wont restore. I have the current Itunes software on my computer and there are no further updates to be done. Please help
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state. Very rarely this error is caused by a hardware issue and requires service.

ok, so I transferred my 3S info to my 4S by restoring from an old phone backup. But SIRI is gone and god knows what else?? Can I get my old stuff into the new phone and keep the 4S new functionality?
I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone. Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

My ipod keeps restoring and wont show up.
Everytime i plug in my iPod a message keeps coming up telling me to restore it well i restore it and the message keeps coming up i tried going into the control panal and all that stuff but my ipod doesnt even show up in there or in my computer folder. please help.
Is that a "recovery mode" message, littlehippie?
If so, and the iPod otherwise seems to be working fine, it's probably worth checking on a Windows drive letter confusion, as per the following document:

If the developers of the apps have followed Apple's guidelines, the data should be in the backup made in iTunes, so you should be able to just restore the iPhone 4S from the most recent backup of the iPod touch, re-sync your apps, and you should be good to go. If any of the data is critical, though, you may want to confirm with the developer of the app, just in case they have some special procedure.

I would like to restore my PC back to factory settings.
I've once before transfered my iTunes Library from one to another computer and even restored it on my old desktop PC, though i had some problems...
--> most of my songs got little "?" in front of them and iTunes tells me it can't find them, which is really annoying cos i am not gonna put them all back in (45gb music is no fun...)
Is there any way i am too stupid to know to prevent that from happening?
But second of all and even more important is what will happen with my iPhone and my iTouch? All the Apps and all that stuff? I would like to keep my iPhone as it is but still restore my PC...is that possible?

The password is set on the WiFi router providing the service, by the owner of the network to prevent unwanted "guests" accessing the network. The only way to know it is to ask the owner permission to use the network. Otherwise, you have to find a free WiFi hotspot that doesn't require a password.

Please help. I simply connected my iPhone 4s to my Dell laptop (Win 8) which connected to iTunes automatically (which it normally does) and was told that I needed to update my software (I believe for both iPhone OS and iTunes). I tried to update and now my iPhone won't work at all. I just keep going in circles trying to restore and recover and I keep getting the error message: The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14). All I see on my iPhone 4s screen is a cable connector, a little up arrow, and an iTunes symbol--and nothing else works.

My old hard-drive has corrupted and i have lost my library. i lost my back up too. I have restored all my purchased stuff but had 5000 songs uploaded from my CD collection. Is there anyway of transferring the CD tracks from my ipod or ipod to my iMac? Or do I have to manually upload the CDs again?
