I have an IPad2 with 4.3.5 and due to some of the newer apps I was forced to upgrade to the newer 6.1.3
before i updated the IOS i backed up with the itune to my laptop.
i than installed the new ISO, when it is finished it acted as it is a new IPad there were none of my old apps. my pics did move over.
I than clicked on restore under the backups and it took about 8mins and when it finished I still had nothing on my Ipad??
is there is a way to restore my old apps or i have to redownload everything due to the newer IOS?

Is this how you restore from iTune Backup?
1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
5. Configuration start
6. Set language
7. Set country
8. Select Network and input Password>Join
9. Enable Location Service>Next
10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup
11. Select Restore from iTune Backup
12. You will see picture of USB cable pointing towards iPad
13. Connect iPad to iTune (make sure iTune is on standby)
14. Tap Continue (computer)
15. Restore iPad from Backup (computer)
16. See progress bar with estimated time (computer)

IPAD - restore apps etc to Ipad post update

I have updated to iOS5 and still have apps siting on my laptop . How can I transfer these back to my iPAD?
I also have notes soemwhere, but want to know how i can restore these to my iPAD?

My current version of Ipad 2 is IOS 4.3.3
After install a games call Munch and play a few level. The screen turn blank. When i press power button to wake it. It show apple logo and the background is black.
On the Itunes side, I try to sync but failed because it does not detect my device.
I run into DFU mode and Itunes detect my IPAD 2 but the device name and the device version is blank.
When I try to restore but it failed.
When try to update, Yes it can download the IOS 5.0.1 but it failed to update my device after downloaded. So wasting my 2 hour time to download it.
I try the customs ways. I downloaded IOS 4.3.3 Restore Firmware and IOS 5.0.1 Restore Firmware

Since this is a built in app, it is always on the iPad. But parental controls through restrictions allows it to be hidden to prevent a child from making purchases.
To get the app un hidden:

Did you sync with iTunes after you updated your iPad? If you have been syncing your iPad with iTunes, simply sync again in order to put your apps back on the device. If you lost them for some reason, download them again using the same Apple ID that you bought them with.

Macbook air, restore Lion after erase

I have a late 2010 Macbook Air that came with Lion (10.7) I wanted to erase and restore so I erased Macintosh HD on disk utility but but now I can't restore Lion. When I restart it to the Recovery HD it takes me to a wierd menu. When I click instal Lion its asks for my apple ID then tells me I have not purchased Lion (which is true, it came with the MBA) from disk utility I can look through the computer and theres is a file called something like "Lion installer" but it is shaded and unclickable. I am at a loss and DO NOT want to purchase Lion for a computer that already had it.
(I do not use time machine)

Yes, I'm sure and you just confirmed it. Whoever gave it to you purchased and installed Lion using their Apple ID. Then they gave it to you but did not remove Lion and restore Snow Leopard. So now you will have to purchase your own copy and download it from the App Store. Since Lion is no longer being sold you will actually purchase Mountain Lion.

I recently restored my iPad after having some problems and did not restore from back up as when I did, I still had problems. I restored and created a new iPad and all is fine... However, I did lose all my info like things I had bought within the apps and game saves etc but I can live with that. What I cant live with is the fact that I lost all my TIME magazines. Anyone know how I can restore them? Where you go to the App there is no option... Other apps have automatically downloaded content I already bought.. surely TIME would do the same?

Actually I just tried to buy one again and after going through the purchase process and putting in password to confirm, it then tells you you have already bought it and can download it for free! Just as well... But you do have to do as if you were buying it again.

Restoring Apps after restoring iPod Touch

I recently restored my wife's iPod Touch and when I hooked it back up to her laptop iTunes kept asking me to purchase the January update. I kept telling it no seeing as we had already purchased the update along with the apps back in January. I read on the forum how it should be restored using the computer that the Touch was first synched to. This solved the problem seeing as how I was using the newest laptop to do the restore. The problem is that her original laptop is close to failing which means at some point I won't be able to restore the apps if the need arises again. Is there some way to transfer the January update files and apps over to her new computer so that next time I should be able to do a restore without having to use the original laptop?

The iPod touch January Software Upgrade can only be synced to iPod touch from the primary iTunes library. If the user is manually managing music and video on iPod, this is the computer where they first set up the iPod or first set it up after restoring the iPod. The "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file can be copied from the computer where you purchased it to your primary iTunes library computer, and sync the iPod from there.

Okay, so me and my friends were messing around with my other frien's ipad and we locked the ipad too many times to the point where it said "connect to itunes." we eventually figured out how to get it back to factory settings but now all his apps and EVERYTHING is lost. He never backed his ipad up into itunes, which is another problem. Now we don't know how to get the apps back restore all his games and high scores.

REstoring settings after erase & reinstall

I had to do an erase & reinstall on my Mac to clear up some problems. Fortunately, I have a valid Time Machine backup. How can I restore my bookmarks and extensions from the backup and avoid having to laboriously re-install them one-by-one? Thanks.

Don't let the first post fool you - new account, long time user; old account login details lost in a keychain somewhere...
Preparing for Leopard I had a good clean out and got to 21gb of free space on my 40gb HD.
Backed up files to Firewire AND USB external drives.
I tried an upgrade installation of Leopard.
Got the blue screen, tried the APE fixes.
Couldn't do an archive and install as the message said there wasn't enough space.
9gb plus 9gb = 21gb+ I guess....!
(Even tried a Terminal removal of some iTunes files, which I knew I had a back up of, but no luck increasing available space.)
So, did and erase and install which worked fine.
But now I am having trouble importing settings from the old files.
Mail for example wants me to start from scratch, and won't see the back ups I made.
I realize each application has library files, plists and other files associations - how to I get the virgin Leopard versions to recognize their older cousins?
Migration Assistant doesn't seem to see external drives except for Time Machine which of course has nothing I want...
How also to import 3rd party apps. with their previous associations and settings?
Hope I don't have to start from scratch...

You can't just replace the user folder with the one from before the 10.5 install. What you have to do is individually drag the items from each folder ie "Music" to their corresponding folders in the new home folder.
Put the Backup "Documents" files to New "Document" folder
Mail is located in username/Library/Mail and possibly also username/Library/Mail Downloads, drag both these to the new walts "Library".
Bookmarks is located in username/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plst, once you find this go to the File Menu in Safari and go to "Import Bookmarks."
I would not recommend copying any settings from the backup to 10.5, this causes errors sometimes. These settings are also easily redone. If you must have them spotlight them or search for them in the preferences or Library/Application Support. Applications Mail settings can also be easily reconfigured for example.

Anyone having trouble updating and loading apps after updating ipad software?

I have an ipad(1st gen). Updated to the latest software a few weeks ago. Shows apps available for update, but wont download and load the app now. Anyone else having this issue? Also, safari frequently wont open a link and says safari is not connect to the network. Have to close the browser and reopen it to get it working sometimes. Frustrating!!! Help!!

OK, sounds like none of your apps are in iTunes yet. What you need to do is go to the iTunes store in the left hand column then go to the App store at the top of the page under the little apple icon, then go to the right hand side of this page and look for the link called "purchased". Click this link and then choose the button in the lower right hand corner called "downlad all". After you have all your apps downloaded to iTunes, you should be able to sync them to your phone again.

Pretty sure this thread was about text messaging and picture messaging.
I'd try deleting the email account and re-adding again, if that doesn't work try restoring from a backup.
