Restoring backed up info?

How do I extract backed up files, ie. I deleted some important text messages by mistake and need to find them

If you don't want to restore your phone to the backup you'll have to use 3rd party software to extract them, such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

  • How do I restore backed up info

My husband bought a brand new iphone.  I mistakenly backed up my phone info to his new phone when i was setting it up and now he has all my texts and contacts and his phone shows up under my name on call display.  He has used the phone for about  week and has many texts and emails and contacts that he dosent want to lose.  Can I go back into itunes and back up his phone, restore it to the factory settings then pick and choose what i want to put back onto his phone?

It depends what info you are looking for.  If it is info like photos, contacts, or documents, you can most likely do that by backing up the "new phone", restoring to the old version, saving the info, then going back to the new phone setup and adding it to that setup.  If it is stuff like game progress and the game will not automatically do it for you, you will have to choose between the old backup or your current version.

  • Can not restore backed up info to my updated iphone 4

I backed up my iphone 4 up to the latest version of itunes, the backup displayed a message that it was successful. I then reset my phone to factory setting (as told by the verizon tech) since my phone had suddenly stopped sending/receiving emails. when i try to put all my info back onto my iphone i just get a spinning bar on the screen with the estimated time it will take. I let it go for a full 24 hours and still nothing. Please help!!! Im all out of ideas of what to try next and im left with an empty iphone- everything on it is gone How do i restore my information back onto my phone?

Reset it by holding the Power and Home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • Switching SIM, and restoring backed up info...

I have my husband's old iPhone that I put my SIM into, but I can't figure out how to restore all the apps, notes, wallpaper, etc. from MY original phone to his old one. Anybody know how to do this? I'm afraid of wiping out everything I have. THANKS for the help!

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

The voicemail system used for the iPhone is different from the voicemail system used on the rest of the Verizon Wireless network. When you activate the iPhone, you lose your saved voicemails from the other system. When you activate a non-iphone, you lose any saved voicemails from the iPhone voicemail system too.

  • HT1386 When I plug my iPhone into my iMac via USB I can choose to "back up to this computer".  On another sync to my iMac, can I choose to " back up to the iCloud"?  This way I could restore all my info and settings from either source.  Is this possible?

On the phone, under Settings > iCloud you can select to turn iCloud ON or OFF.
One iTunes, it senses that toggle and if you had selected iCloud it will say backup to iCloud. Here you can change the toggle to backup to computer and click "Apply" prior to syncing.
I do both for good measure. I backup to computer and then after i disengage the device from the computer, I set the iCloud toggle back to ON and then perform the iCloud backup over wifi.
I found that using iTunes and saying to backup to iCloud isn't always successful in the "last backed up" time and thus I do it separately.

  • If I want to restore back to snow leopard

I've had it with Lion. I want to restore Leopard. I have never use the backup utilities in Leopard, but I have backed up what I need to manually to another drive. What I want to ask about is app store purchases and itunes purchases and bookmarks. After I do a full restore of Leopard, basically back to "new out of the box" iMac, I have a few questions:
    1. Do I need to use the same user account when first time signing onto my iMac?
    2. After all the updates are applied for Leopard, can I simple sign back into the "iMac app store" and see all my old purchases and simply reinstall them?
    3. iTunes... I keep all my media files on an external USB hard drive for iTunes. Can I simply sign into iTunes with my account and "change back" the iTunes default media location in prefferences back to that external location, and have iTunes find and re apply everything just as it was before?
    4. I was told there is a file "Bookmarks.plist" that I can first backup, then after the full restore back to Leopard, I can simply copy back that Bookmarks.plist file and get all my bookmarks back? I know you can do an bookmarks export from safari, but I was told backing up your Bookmarks.plist files does the same thing, only slicker and better?
    5. My iCal is synced to my iPhone. Would my iPhone sync back all the events to the iCal? Can I use the iPhone to sync back info to the system?
Or do I need to first backup the iCal data somehow, also?
    6. Stickies... I believe I can backup the stickeis database file, then restore it and all my stickies notes will be intacked?
    7. Im also wondering about 3rd party software i've purchased, if that can be reinstalled and would the original activation or register codes or keys still work?
The same with "MS OFFICE for the iMac" and "PARALLELS", would their ownership register codes work as if I were simply reinstalling the program back onto the same old machine? Or would these 3rd party programs purchased with register codes think I was trying to install on a completely different system? Thus the original codes might not accept?
So thats my only real concerns...
Using the same user info when starting up my fully restored system for the first time?
Reinstalling already purchases iMac app-store items?
Re-installing 3rd party purchased software that will ask for the original activation or register code. WIll they still work?

See Kappy's going back to SL from Lion guide.

  • HT5824 where can i found the back up info that I have backed up from my iphone?

where can I found the back up info that I have backed up from my Iphone?

If you mean your iPhone backup, you can't see any files in the backup, you can only restore it to your phone.  You can confirm that you have one by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage and seeing that your phone is listed at the top under Backups.

  • Why wont my itunes recognise my iphone? its telling me to restore back to factory settings but know this i will loose everything!! ??

I really dont want to restore back to factory settings and loose all my info!

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • All my contacts were erased when I completed software upgrade to 6.0.1. Is there a way to restore my contact info?

All my contacts were erased when I completed software upgrade to 6.0.1. Is there a way to restore my contact info?

Sync them back to the device from the supported application on the computer that you are using. That would be either Address Book, Windows Contacts, Outlook, iCloud or other cloud service. That is done either through iTunes, or iCloud.

  • I don't have my phone anymore and need to get access to my contact list. Is there a way to get into my backed up info from the PC I'm using right now?

You can use another iPhone (or iPad) to restore it too, or you can login to www.icloud.com (assumng you weer using iCloud) and export your contacts from there.

  • Back up Info etc. from iPhone

    Hi,
Pardon me for being ignorant but I'm in desperate need of anybody to assist me.
Right this minute, I am backing up my iphone to my computer although, I am not sure of  a few things and they are:-
    1. Once I have backed up to my computer, where can I view this back up info etc. in my computer?
    2. Once I have backed up, what do I do next? "Revert" or "Apply" or Neither?
Please assist me, thank you kindly.

If you are backing up to a computer via iTunes, the backup information is stored in files that are not meant to be accessed directly. They are in a format that is intended only for restoring to an iOS device in the event of a problem. There is information on their location and content in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
I regularly backup to iCloud -- happens automatically when the phone is plugged in (charging), locked, and has Wi-Fi connection. But that backup is also meant only for restoring in the event of a problem.
In addition to a backup, I routinely import my Camera Roll photos to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
That way I can verify that they actually are on the computer and I can include them in my regular computer backup.
I also sync contacts to my computer via iCloud (for the same reasons as I import the photos). Information on setting up iCloud to sync contacts: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
The "Apply" in iTunes has to do with syncing. More information on iTunes sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386

The iCloud backup includes most things except non-iTunes purchased but the iTunes backup does not include those either. For what iCloud includes see:

  • Hi All, I am using iphone in UAE and ipad in India usinging same apple id. Earlier I could do imessage  to my Ipad with different name but with  software update,I am unable to do, as signing id for the iphone and ipad is same. How to restore back

Hi All, I am using iphone in UAE and ipad in India usinging same apple id. Earlier I could do imessage  to my Ipad with different name but with  software update,I am unable to do, as signing id for the iphone and ipad is same. How to restore back

I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered
    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Manage your Apple ID and see if that does the trick
    Hope that helps
