Restoring backup after upgrading to sys 5.1

I backed up my iphone 3gs and upgraded to 5.1. When prompted to restore backup, I was requested to key in password. But I didn't key in password at all b4 backup. Does anyone know what password is required? I tried my itunes acc password but not it Thanks so much

See this tip --> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

  • IPhone 2.1:  Cannot restore backup after upgrade?

    OK, here's my scenario:
Had 2.0.1 on my 3G. Decided to upgrade to 2.1. I have a PC, and I do not sync my contacts with any email account (yet). So, I made a backup of my iPhone with iTunes prior to the upgrade. Good strategy, I thought: Backup, Upgrade, Restore. Hah, what was I thinking?
Made the upgrade. iPhone started up just fine, but it was empty. Restore my data.... thunk iPhone decided that something wasn't tasting too good and refused to accept the restore. In fact, it froze my iPhone every time, causing it to get stuck in a loop of vibrate every 10 seconds with the Apple logo on the screen. Hmmm...
Several attempts to factory restore / DFU and re-upgrade, downgrade, but the restore messed it up every time. gulp I've lost my contacts!?
    Nah-uh...
    No way....
    I refuse to accept it..
Using a method of search, I searched those recent MDBACKUP files for the word "addressbook" and found two files. One for contacts, one for contact photos. The filenames are just ridiculous. Anyway..
I moved the backup folder somewhere else, created a new one with the same name, and added these two files along with the three PLIST files which they're matched with.
    I started a manual restore.
It copied and restarted.... and it restored my contacts. Wow.
I tried this trick again, this time adding the files with my Safari bookmarks.
    Presto.
    Thank goodness.
So, if you ever need to just restore your contacts or bookmarks or the like, this is one way to do it. Anybody have a better method?
    -- dijitul in Hawaii

What do you open the folder with to find the one with contact info... test edit? Also... how do you find out what plist files they are associated with? This may sound simple but it's not really for a basic Mac user. I shouldn't have to do this after a standard update. Not good..
But if I can get more in fo I will give it a shot.
    Thanks.

  • Not enough space to restore backup after upgrade

    Hi,
Just upgraded a phone (4/4s) from 4.3.3 to 7.1.2 but I can't restore from iTunes Backup when going through the "set up iPhone" process.
Its telling me there isn't enough space on the iphone.
There is 3.27 GB free on the phone. I can't get into Setting on the phone at the moment because its in set-up mode.
To free up space - is it ok if I delete photo's from the phone via windows explorer ? If I restore from backup - will the photo's I have deleted be restored again ?
I have backup of the photo's
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

Difficult question... I think you will have to set up your iPhone as a new iPhone. If your backup is too large for the iPhone, you won't be able to restore it.
I have a couple of questions for you:
    - Which iPhone do you have, the 4 or the 4s (the 4 has a stripe next to the headphone minijack, the 4s not)?
    - How much gigabites storage has your iPhone?

  • I am experiencing low battery backup after upgrade to OS X Mavericks

i am experiencing low battery backup after upgrade to OS X Mavericks

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Imac keeps crashing in time machine backup after upgrade to mountain lion

2008 imac kept crashing (shutdown and restart) during first backup after upgraded to mountain lion. The backup size was about 10GB but time machine crashed after a while (at most 2GB) and never completed backup. So, I don't have any backup since right before I upgraded from Lion. Any suggestion?

Something strange happened. I was able to get time machine to work by going out to the login screen (the account kept logged in) and let it run the backup with the screen off (screen auto off after a few min). I tried it on two different external drives and that did the trick on both. Since the initial Mountain Lion backup was huge (155 GB), I was quite surprise that it worked at all. I assume your MBP was a Lion to ML. I also just did a 2012 MBP upgrade but that one was smoother. I did not recall having crashing issue. One thing I did find during this was that my WD passport USB drive was corrupted. Not sure it was the cause or not. I had to erase and reformat to get it back to work. Maybe do a verify disk to confirm. Good luck.

  • Unable to restore backup after updating iphone 4, because "not enough free space"

I updated my iphone 4 to v7 via itunes (v12), and in doing so, my camera roll was erased as were most of my calendar events.  I am trying to restore the backup that I created just before updating, but I get an error message in itunes that says "itunes could not restore the iphone" because "not enough free space".  There is 2.5gb free on my iphone, and I created the backup just before updating so there should be plenty of room.  Does anyone know how to get the iphone to restore and/or how to put my pics & calendar back?  itunes hangs up at the end while syncing too...

hello again, don't post twice the same question, it won't be answered faster.

To make it short and sweet, yesterday I updated my iPod Touch 3G to iOS 4.0.2 and today I tried to restore a backup into it, and everytime it gives me an error (no numbers or anything). What's wrong? I've read similar problems and very few legit solutions...please help!!

  • Extremely Slow Time Machine Backup after upgrading to 10.8.3

Time machine backups are taking an extremely long time on my retina MacBook Pro 13 inch after upgrading to 10.8.3. It's taking many minutes just for a kilobyte to be backed up. I've tested transferring something to the disk and it's lightening fast so there's nothing wrong with the disk.
Is anyone having similar issues or know of a fix?

I had the same problem with slow backups. Called Apple 5 times and went through all the hoops checking plists, airport, and then erasing using my airport utility and the first backup of about 25-30 gigs went fine, but the second backup would take between 1-2 hours. By the time it was finished it was ready to do another backup.
After looking at community fixes I found that my Comcast Norton Anti Virus was the problem. Upon speaking for the 6th time to Apple I was told that should have been the first thing they asked, since antivirus programs check each file going to the time capsule. Even unchecking the scan external drives did not help.
I removed the Norton AV from my system and replaced it with the IAV from apple store (free) and my backups are back to normal. I timed a 100 meg using Ethernet/LAN and it took 9 minutes 32 seconds from clicking backup now, searching for backups, preparing backup, backingup, and cleanup. My Wifi connection on 10 megs took only 1 minute 29 seconds.
Now my backups run so fast I don't even see them working. Also the constant updates to Norton were casuing my backups to be 100 megs or more each time due to daily Norton updates. Now I get backups in the order of 10-20 megs - depending up what I have put on the machine. If I put music on it increases the size of the files installed.
I recommend anyone having this slow time capsule problem to turn off your full antivirus program no matter what you are using and watch the difference in speed. I am so happy! No more 2 hour backups and 45 minutes to 1 hour preparing backup! good luck

  • Time Machine backup after upgrading from 10.6

    Hi all,
I'm planning to upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.7 on a MacBook from 2007, and I have a question about my Time Machine set-up. I have this backing up on an external HD, and I am wondering if, when I've upgraded to 10.7, the Time Machine software will access the same set-up I had in 10.6.8? Will it just pick up from where 10.6.8 left off or will I have to start again?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Not enough space to restore my backup after upgrading to iOS6

i have an iphone 4s which i decided to upgrade to the latest software. unfortunately, after itunes upgraded the OS, there's not enough space to restore my phone from the latest backup. looks like iOS6 has a bigger usage than the previous OS im using. now im stuck with using my old backup files which obviously something i don't want to use. i want to restore to my latest backup which contains some of the important files i want to access. what should i do???

You're saying I should put the backup on another, bigger external drive, erase everything on my computer and restore from the 2nd external drive? Sounds a bit risky, especially if I erase my computer and the problem is with the backup.

  • Can't restore backup after OS upgrade

I just did an OS upgrade on my Z30.  Before doing the upgrade I synced contacts with Microsoft Windows contacts and did a complete backup, using default settings.
After the upgrade, which naturally wiped the phone, I synced the contacts back without any problem.  But when I try to Restore Device in BB Link, the backup file shows up in the Restore Optoins window of BB Link but a warning says "There are no items available to transfer" and the Restore button is greyed out.  I have about 1.5G of documents saved that I need to restore.
How do I get them back?

I see your post has gone unanswered for 2 weeks, could be because no-one knows the solution or your post is confusing.
I do not know the solution but what is confusing about your post is you said "After the upgrade, which naturally wiped the phone" Upgrades do not wipe the phone, how did you update ?

  • How can I restore my old iTunes Time Machine backup after upgrading to Mavericks?

I previously had Snow Leopard, and am wondering how I can simply restore ONLY my iTunes library from my Time Machine backup, last made only a few days ago when I had Snow Leopard. However, I seem to be unable to access anything backed up before I installed Mavericks. Any help would be great, because I'd hate to have to struggle to locate 160GB of music manually.
    Many thanks!

Your choice really. Either way will work. Retaining the older backups gives you a way to restore older files. When I upgrade from 10.8 to 10.9, the backups continued without errors. Depending on what you upgraded from, in 10.8/9 you have the option to backup to 2 separate drives thus giving you some protection in case one drive fails. You can either copy the old backup to a new drive (Disk Utility/Restore seems to work best) or start a new one.

  • IPhone will not restore from backup after upgrading to iOS4

    Hey guys,
I updated to iOS4 just fine on my iPhone 3G 16gb model. Unfortunately, what occurred after that is what's giving me a headache. Whenever I try to restore my iPhone from the backup I created, my laptop keeps freezing when it hits about 8-10% completion. It has no major problems with freezing or locking up, and I'm pretty sure that my iTunes is the problem. My phone will now no longer play my music, nor will it even display half of my custom ringtones(even though they appear on my ringtones list under my iPhone in iTunes), nor will it display any of the songs that I purchased through iTunes on my phone recently.
Most of the other features are working fine, though I have not tested everything. I still receive text messages, phone calls, and can access the internet, so it works how I absolutely need it to, but this is becoming an extremely frustrating ordeal. Please let me know if anyone has experienced something similar or knows of a solution.
    Thanks!

I can't find anything specific on that error code, but this Apple article may give you some ideas on how to fix it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
You may have to "Restore as New" if you cannot get it to restore from a backup. You will lose your game data but that is about the extent of the effect.
