Restoring backup content from N9 to N8

Hi all.
Previously I owned a N9 and then changed to N8 as N9 did not feel to be "my thing" even if it was a really good phone. I also needed some extra money by selling my 64GB N9.
Well, now I try to restore my personal content from the backup file which was created of my N9. Names and phone numbers were successfully restored but the messages stubbornly won't show up in my N8. What's the problem? It can't be the different OS's as the names and numbers were successfully restored.

Yes, it is possible. Use the latest PC Suite when you do it. (PC Suite 6.85.14.1)

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above covers your purchased content. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

  • Restore backup pieces from tape to disk

    Hello,
I want to restore the backup pieces from tape to disk.   Is there any way of getting those bacup pieces to disk.
I have contacted storage team, that they can't copy the files, only through rman utility the files can be used.
I just need to restore the files from tape to disk.  No, need to restore the database.  I just need this for future purpose...
    Thanks,
    Ramesh G

You can try to use LIST BACKUP to get the backup piece name and then use Veritas tool to restore the backup piece from tape to disk.

  • Device dead, need to restore backup files from Palm 515 desktop software to Centro desktop software. Can it be done??

Ok, here's the story:  My palm515 died about a year ago and since then I've been operating exclusively from my desktop software, until I recently bought a Palm Centro.  Instructions said to hotsync to device, install new Centro Software, then hotsync back from device onto the desktop program.  Problem is, I don't have a device to hotsync to because it's dead!  I have backups of desktop, so I tried installing Centro Software per instructions.  Centro Software said that it couldn't overwrite the old program, that I would manually have to uninstall it.  Ok.  But when I tried to go back into my old desktop software, it wouldn't even execute, like the Centro software had already begun to delete it.  So I reinstalled the old 515 software thinking I wanted to at least do another triple-dog-check backup to two different locations, maybe even print stuff out in case it woudn't restore to the new software.  Worst case scenario I have to type everything back in but at least I still have it.  But now i can't figure out how to restore backup files to the 515 software!  It keeps looking for .ada files but the backup files are .bak and it won't recognize them.  How the heck do you restore a backup on this thing!  OR, can I just install the new Centro software and restore the files from there.
Somebody PLEASE tell me how this can be done.  My entire life, my business, all my clients, my appointments, my phone numbers, addresses, my records for my taxes, EVERYTHING is in there!
    thanks,

    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Assuming you are not running Vista, and that you have copied the User folder with the .dat and .bak files to a safe location outside the Palm folder, completely uninstall the Access Desktop that came with your Centro and download and install 4.1.4e from Palm's download page.
If you can get the m515 data in there by copying the User folder or Importing Data and sync the Centro you should be fine. Once it all appears where it should (Desktop and Centro) you can delete the User folder copy you copied for the process.

  • Anyway to restore backup files from s40 to s*3 dev...

I made a backup of nessages in my nokia 2730 device. I have the backup file its in .crt format.
Now i have nokia c7 and i want to restore that backup file in c7. but it dont support ?
any idea, how to get messages in c7 ?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
How did you back up your messages? Did you use the Nokia PC Suite or the Nokia Suite to back up your messages? Note that you can use both the Nokia PC Suite and the Nokia Suite to back up your files but there's no guarantee if your C7 will recognize it. Since both devices are different in terms of software.
If you still have the 2730 Classic, another way to transfer your messages is by syncing or exporting/importing it using the Nokia Suite.
You can download the latest Nokia Suite from this link: www.nokia.com/nokiasuite
Transfer all your text messages to the Nokia Suite:
Connect your Nokia 2730 Classic to the computer.
In Nokia Suite, go to the Messaging tab.
To get messages from the phone, press Sync messages and follow the instructions on the screen.
Once your messages imported to Nokia Suite, you can view them under Conversations.
Alternatively, choose a file to export the messages, select File > Export all text messages.
Browse to the folder where you want to save the file. Then, type a name for a new message file in the File name field, or select an existing message file to overwrite it.
Click Save. All your text messages are stored to the file.
    Disconnect the phone.
Open the message file and sync the content to your Nokia C7:
Connect your C7 to the computer.
In Nokia Suite, go to the Messaging tab.
You can view your messages under Conversations.
Alternatively, choose a file to import the messages, select File > Import text messages.
Browse to the folder where you have the CSV file that contains your messages and select it.
Click Open. All your text messages are copied from the file to Nokia Suite.
To sync the content to your C7, press Sync messages and follow the instructions on the screen.
The text messages appearing on your C7.
    Hope this helps.

  • Restoring iPhoto contents from an external hard drive results in duplicates! Please help!

    Hi Folks,
I have an iMac 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo computer that had it's DVD fried and I gave it to Apple to fix it. They did and they also upgraded me to the Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4. I am not sure if I am a fan of this OS but that's a different story. I had backed up everything to an external hardrive (not using time Machine). The external drive is a Hitachi and came with it's own back-up software for the Mac. I was able to restore everything except iPhoto properly. By the time I specified the directory that contained my library information, I ended up getting duplicates events/pictures of EVERYTHING to the point where it has eaten up more than 100GB of my 350GB hard-drive
Now I have been looking through all of the duplicate events that iPhoto created, I see that most of them are thumbnails. I also downloaded photosweeper Lite to find duplicate pictures and that didn't help. I am a Unix hack and could write some sort of script to compare the fine names etc but I know that's not a practice that's encouraged and I really don't have the time to putz with it.
So can you please let me know how can I re-restore iPhoto properly please given what was in the back-up hardware? Here is what the directory structure looks like in the external drive:
    Hitachi Restore/Users/mrghoo/Pictures/iPhoto Library
The content of the above directory is:

I am sorry for the long winded request but if anyone could help, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear of your difficulties.
Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the back up to the Pictures Folder on the MBP and launch iPhoto. It will do the rest.
Alternatively, you can leave the library where it is and hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the Library on the Back Up disk.

  • How to Restore iWeb Contents From iDisk?

After a format of my MBP I need to find out how to get the contents of my iWeb site back onto my Mac. Which directory does it belong to on my Mac for iWeb to recognize everything properly?

    So basically I'm screwed, right?
Unless you have a backup of your Home folder, otherwise yes
I can't copy the files from my iDisk to my Mac and have iWeb recognize them?
    No.
So when I start from scratch, will iWeb erase my current site from my iDisk?
If you give your new site a different name to the old one then NO, if you use a different name you will end up with two sites.

  • Restore & Backup gone from iTunes

My backup options have disappeared in itunes on my MBA - I cannot backup or restore from backup, when I right click on the phone all I get is... Eject, Sync, Transfer Purchases or Reset Warnings...
However I can on my MacPro...
This is on my 3GS, my fiance's 3G and my brother has tested it with his 3GS on his laptop and gets the same - interestingly on his 3G he can backup...
    Anyone heard of this before?

iPhone and iPod touch: About backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    Creating a Backup
Backups can be created in the following ways:
If you have configured your iPhone or iPod touch to automatically sync with iTunes on a specific computer, iTunes will back up the iPhone or iPod touch after you connect it to that computer and sync with iTunes. iTunes will not automatically back up an iPhone or iPod touch that is not configured to sync with that computer. iTunes only makes one backup each time you connect, even if you sync multiple times before disconnecting.
If you do not have your iPhone or iPod touch sync automatically when connected, iTunes will create a backup when you choose to sync.
Right-click (or Control-click) the iPhone or iPod touch in iTunes under Devices and choose Back Up.
If you choose to update the software, iTunes will back up the iPhone and iPod touch automatically.
If you choose to restore the software to factory settings, iTunes will ask you if you want to back up the iPhone and iPod touch.
From the above I would suggest Sync and see if it creates a backup. Once it does do you have the option back?
Also from above if you have already sync your info then it is safe so you could restore the iPhone and your will get prompt for backup. Once backup made can you then control-click or right-click and see the backup option?

  • Restoring backup files from Time Machine without system preference/Library files

Hi all. I recently ran into some trouble with my MBP and had the Apple store do a erase/install for me. At the time when I got my laptop back, I was told it would be best if I transferred my files including applications the drag and drop way to avoid restoring library/system files that could've been the cause of the problem in the first place. I'm currently still at the setup assistant stage and I'm really unsure of what to do to be honest because I'm under the impression that my application settings would pretty much be gone if I did the drag and drop method.
I read that setup assistant transfers only files that you want but I also read something from user Pondini that the Library files are automatically restored even if I unchecked everything. Which is problematic since that's what I want to avoid in the first place. If possible can anyone recommend a better option for my dilemma? I've read in one of the forum boards that dragging and dropping files can also cause some problems with how applications will work and I really don't want to have to deal with that after the trouble I'm going through with this. Is there a way to just restore Applications and the user folder (desktop, documents, downloads, etc) without including the library system files and folders through setup assistant?
Or do I really have to deal with dragging and dropping files instead? Would you recommend doing the stars wars method of Time Machine and picking only the files I want? Would that be most advisable?
Also, it would be really helpful if anyone can explain to me what the "other files and folders" mean exactly. Thanks very much!

Well what happened was my laptop ran into 2 kernel panics within 2 days (I posted a question here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25605663#25605663). Which sent ME into a panic. I couldn't trust myself to go any further so I went to the Apple store who then helped did an erase/install for me because they suspect it could be a software issue (maybe it was missing codes or something) and suggested that it would be best for me to drag/drop restore my stuff manually. I'm not very keen on a full system restore either because I know there are some system files which I'd rather not have sticking around (like com.rims which are super stubborn to get rid of) and which could even have been the source of my trouble right now.
I was reading through every single page of Pondini's articles and I'm couldn't find anything which said I could just restore the apps in my apps folder without transferring anything else (ie. the library folder in the macintosh hd folder) since i'm assuming anything from the library folder of the user would be obsolete if I choose not to restore those files using setup assistant. But I'm more reluctant about not using setup assistant for restoring my apps because I don't know how bad it will turn out. Not to mention I won't know if they would restore system root files that should've been long gone since I uninstalled them.

  • Restoring backup discs from old computer

Our old computer had died but luckily i had my i tunes library backed up. i have downloaded the new i tunes on my new laptop. When i put in one of the discs it recognises it as a back up disc, starts copying into my library but keeps stopping and won't go any further - e.g stops at 118 of 135.
i don't know if anyone knows why this is.
    Please help
    Thanks

You should be able to accomplish what you want. First, open a Finder window and locate the "other" sparsebundle, from the now thrown away Mac. Double mouse click to mount it (or open it). Once is it mounted, you can either click the Time Machine icon in the upper right of your screen (and then press the 'option' key) or right mouse click (or hold 'control' while clicking) on the icon in your dock. The option you want is 'browse other time machine disks'. In the new window you should have the option to browse the other backup and retrieve the file you're looking for.

Guys please help, I'm so gutted about this. My 6280 is damaged & I have no screen, so haven't been able to read any text messages for the past two weeks. However I've constantly backed all these up via PC Suite & have the copier files on my system. But when I try to locate these via the backup application within Suite, with my N73 connected, it doesn't show?! What'd I do?
