Restoring Backup--lost my I photo library

I downloaded videos from a flip video. I said yes when it asked if I wanted to create a new library. Later I found ALL my previous pictures/events gone.
I put a message in the IPHOTO discussion and received instructions to Restore the previous backup from Time Machine. "Help" in Time Machine was helpful....When I go to the menu...I get several desktops and many backups listed on the right. They are all white characters.. Does this mean I have lost ALL my previous pictures/events? ls there a way to find them?
Thanks,

No.
You can get Time Machine information such as:
Pink/Purple labels = backups saved to an external drive
White labels = "local snapshots" - backups saved to your internal drive. This is only available on portable machines.

Downloaded and installed 5.0.1, killed my phone, finally able to restore but lost all apps, photos, etc. help.  Everything I need is on my iTunes page but I cannot sync with iPhone4. Any ideas how I can sync?

If your phone is in recovery mode, you've already lost ALL of the data on the phone. Your only choice now is to restore it from your most recent backup. You follow this by syncing your content back to your phone. Any data, on your phone, not backed up or in supported applications on your computer, is gone. iTunes content you can re-download for free.

  • Hi, i had backed up my data and then when i restored my phone with the restore backup option, all the photos, music where there but no apps. Al my apps are disappeared. Can you please tell me where are my apps backed up?

Hi, i had backed up my data and then when i restored my phone with the restore backup option, all the photos, music where there but no apps. Al my apps are disappeared. Can you please tell me where are my apps backed up?

Apps (like other synced media like music) are not included in the backup that iTunes makes. Thus, restoring from backup if the apps are not in the iTunes library there are no apps to restore to the iPod.
Redownload the apps into your iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    And then restore from backup.
Make sure that in iTunes>Preferences>Devices the box that say "Prevent iPods..." is checked otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the previous backup (with your app data) might be overwritten.

  • Help "Cannot Restore Backup" - Lost all my sons baby photos from birth

    Hi All,
When trying to restore my iPhone I receive this message "Cannot Restore Backup" when selecting any of the three previous restore points. I had a live chat conversation with apple; they confirmed all three of my backup's are ok their end and recommended that I try the two finger reboot and reset my wifi. None of this worked so they suggested that I tried again in the Apple store using their wifi.... Again didn't work. Made a appointment with the genius bar and they tried a DFU mode reboot with no joy. Next they tried a restore using a new hand set but this also didn't work. Apple has now set a call back for 4:15 tomorrow 3/11/14.
I am now pretty concerned as iCloud has all my photos of my baby sons photo since he was born, which are priceless photos. I don't care about my app etc but I really hope that Apple have a way to supply me with my photos should all else fail. After all I'm paying monthly for a 200GB storage plan which at the moment doesn't appear to be fit for purpose.
Has anyone had any joy in resolving this issue? The member of the genius bar tried to make out that my device or wifi was the problem when backing up. I pointed out that at no point has my phone informed me that the backup failed and that the apple advisor via the live chat said my backups were fine. I said from my point of view I'm paying for a service to ensure all of my photos and videos were safely stored without fear of a home hard drive failing.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
    Carl

  • Cannot restore an older version of photo library from time machine

I save my photos to an external drive and back up to another drive using time machine.  My photo drive has become corrupted (hard disc failing).  I have gone into Timemachine and chosen an earlier photo library backup version (some months ago) and a new replacement external drive for the photo library, but when I then restore to this new drive, Time Machine advances to the most recent backup (with missing photos), and not my chosen backup, and saves this to the new drive. Is thi snot possible, or am I doing soething wrong?   iphoto8, 7.1.5  & snow leopard, 10.6.8.
    iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

As a test, try restoring it to your computer and if successful, then copy the file to the external.

How did you try to restore from Time machine?  Like described in this document? This should work, if your Time Machine backups are complete:
iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later) - Apple Support
Earlier Time Machine versions had a glitch and could not make a full backup of an iPhoto Library, if iPhoto was open during backup.
I am not sure about your iPhoto version, but previous iPhoto versions could browse a Time Machine backup directly from iPhoto. Look for a "Browse Backup" backup item in iPhotos Help. Use this to restore the missing photos.

  • I downloaded the new iphoto to my macbook pro. Now when I open it, there is a message telling me that "your photo library is damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened. Please restore from a backup." What do I do I had 16,000 pictures.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Lost new photos while restoring backup

    Hi,
I recently switched from an iphone 4 to iphone 5. Before changing the phone I had taken a backup on iTunes on my PC (Windows 7). After getting the phone 5, I used it for several days without restoring the backup from iTunes on my PC. I had taken some photos during this time. When I recently connected my phone to the PC, iTunes prompted me if I wanted to restore backup. On clicking 'Yes', I got all my old photos in the new phone but lost all the new ones I had taken. It was so frustrating.. as if you are back to your old phone!!! Are there any ways to recover the new pics?? Please let me know, I really need those new pics!!

Same problem.  My wife lost her iPhone 3Gs while on vacation.  Purchased iPhone 5 on the trip and took pictures with it.  When we got back home I clicked restore from a previous backup and all the pictures disappeared.
I wonder if Apple is reading this thread. ?????????
NO... What did you expect the phone to do when you restore from a backup.
You should've imported the new pics to your computer as you would a digital camera..

  • Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore al photos on iPhoto?

Hi, i can't open photo library on my iPhoto. Now lost all my photos.  How to restore all photos on iPhoto on Macbookair?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
