Restoring backup to iPhone 4?

On Thursday 24th I have to catch a flight, and if I'm very lucky I might manage to queue to get a new iPhone 4, get home, restore to the new iPhone and head straight to the airport.
Am I right in thinking that backing up my iPhone 3GS prior setting off to queue, then restoring to the iPhone 4 is going to be the quickest way of getting it done? Should this put everything on the new iPhone?
Any ideas how long this takes? (Assuming the 32GB iPhone 3GS is full).
I did consider backing up to my MBP and having the restore run while driving - but I read that it wouldn't put music etc on the restored device.

You shouldn't need to restore the iPhone 4 from the backup for your 3GS. The first time you connect the iPhone 4 to iTunes, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for your 3GS to your iPhone 4. This must be followed by a sync with iTunes to transfer your selected content under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, which should be pre-selected for your iPhone 4 based on the same for your 3GS after transferring the backup for your 3GS.
Depending on how much music, videos, and 3rd party apps, the transfer to your iPhone 4 will take an hour or so, maybe longer the more music, video, and 3rd party apps is transferred.
You should sync your 3GS with iTunes immediately before connecting your iPhone 4.

  • Restore backup to iPhone 4S from iPhone 4 backup but apps are missing now.

I backup my iPhone 4. Then I setup my new iPhone 4S by selecting Restore from backup and selecting the backup of the iPhone 4 that I just did. When it is all complete, most of my apps that were in stalled on the iPhone 4 are not on my iPhone 4S. A few of the custom folders are there with only one of two of my downloaded apps but most are nowhere to be seen. I have rebacked up the iPhone 4 (which I confirmed still has all the folders and apps) and repeated the restore process but it turns out the same each time. Any tips? Thanks,
    Marc

Figured it out. "Synch apps" was unchecked in iTunes.

  • Restoring Backup from Iphone 4 & transferring to Iphone 3

Recently my iphone suffered water damage. The phone no longer works so I had my number transferred to my old iphone 3. The last update and back up that I did on the iphone 4 was in November. Being that the iphone 3 does not have iClouds, How do I get the last back up of my contacts, calendar, and notes transferred to the iphone 3. I visted the apple store and the tech. made it sound like it was an easy solution. He said all I needed to do was plug in my the phone to the computer that I did the last back up, restore the phone to the original setting and when prompted to restore to last back up, do so. The problem that I have, is the only prompt I asked to restore the last back up of my husbands phone/number. My last back/number is not an option. Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

You can notrestore a backup made on a newer version of iOS to a phone running an older version of iOS. You can't restore a backup made on an iPhone 4 or 4S to an iPhone 3G at all.

  • Restore backup of iPhone 4S to a new iPhone 6 Plus

I have current backups (iCloud and computer) of my iPhone 4S (64 GB).
Am purchasing a new iPhone 6 Plus (128 GB).
Can I just restore a backup of the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 6 Plus to set-up the iPhone 6S.
Which backup should I use to  transfer all or most of what is on my iPhone 4S to my iPhone 6 Plus?
What items are not backed up & will have to be put on the iPhone 6 Plus by another method?
I have a handful of games on the iPhone 4S.
Will the current status of each game be correctly transferred from the 4S to the 6 Plus?
I am especially concerned about 3 different Slot Machine games where I have luckily accumulated "Millions" of "fake" dollars over a long period of time.
I certainly do not want to have to start all over at $ -0- on these games.
Any other "tips" for a successful transfer of all of my information to the new iPhone 6 Plus?

Does anyone just let AT&T set up your new phone in the store?  Or, is it safer to just do it myself?
If you know what you are doing I wouldn't trust AT&T who may not. And remember the only way to do it is to back up your 4S to a computer (AT&T's?) and restore it to your 6 Plus. Do you really want your possibly private data on AT&T's computer?

  • Do I need to update iOS3.1.3 to iOS4.0 before restoring backup on iPhone 4?

Here's what I plan to do: I have a 3G 16gb with 3.1.3 on it. I wish to back it up and restore the back-up on a new iPhone 4. Since iPhone is going to be preloaded with iOS4, do I need to update my current 3g to iOS4 before I backing it up to restore it on the new phone? I think I do have to since iOS4 is being released a few days prior to the iPhone 4 launch, but I want to double check.
My main reason for asking is I wish to sell my 3G on eBay. I am worried having it updated to iOS4 won't be desirable to the people who want to jailbreak or unlock it. I'm sure there will be a jailbreak for iOS4 coming soon, but would I have a better chance of selling it with 3.1.3 on it? Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks!

You do not have to upgrade your 3G to 4.0 before backing up for use with the iPhone 4. Of course, 4.0 specific settings aren't backed up.
Unless you are living in a bubble, 99.5% of iPhones sold on eBay are sold to people you intend to jailbreak/unlock them
This is undoubtedly based on independent, statistically verified surveys, and not a self serving wild guess based on you and your school friends predilections. Of course.

I backed up the 5s onto my computer, which iTunes recognized as it gave me a time stamp. When I plugged in the iPhone 6 it uploaded the information from before I even had the 5s. It's like the 5s backup didn't exist. There's a lot of information that I need transfered onto the 6 from my 5s. Good thing I didn't wipe the 5s. Why does the iPhone 6 not recognize the 5s backup?

  • PLEASE HELP! iTunes won't restore backup for iPhone 5

I get the error message that the backup is corrupt or not compatible. Anybody knows why?

Do you have any older backups, or was that the only one. While iTunes will overwrite regular backups that are done, if you have done a restore in the past, those are kept with a date/time stamp. If one isn't too old, you can try that, but remember that anything done since that date/time would be lost.
The only other alternative is to restore the device as new and sync whatever data you can back from the computer.

  • Password not working for  restoring backup on iphone

When I enter my Apple password in Itunes to install a backup for my I phone  it doesnot recognise the password.

We are having the exact problem with our smtp outgoing mail too for the last couple of days. Each and every time we attempt to send outgoing mail, we get an error that the server is not available. IF we select "try again later," sometimes we will discover that the email doe sin fact get sent...eventually...but not always.
The problem actually started about a week ago when mail would periodically not send. Now the OSX 10.5.8 mail app shows all of our outgoing servers as being offline. Settings have been double and triple checked, changed to custom port, non-SSl, with SSL, automatic, re-input passwords, rebuilt mailboxes. Nothing so far as worked. Even went to AOL's website and did the image verification as a last resort, but nada.
We can send using webmail, just not from within the OSX email app. We're thinking about switching over to Entourage that is part of Office 2008, which we have. This can not go on since we rely on email for both work and personal communications.
As an aside, I'm not sure if I can send email using my ipod touch hooked to wifi...will try to see if problem is replicated there, as in theory it should be.
WHy doesn't Apple step up and contribute to this discussion? This appears to be a problem that has occurred in the past with updates,t oo.

Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

  • I changed my iPhone lately but i can't restore my last backup since it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I don't know where to put the password to make it happen... Any suggestions?

    Hey guys,
I just bought a new iPhone but i can't restore my backup files beacuse it keeps saying "itunes could not restore backup because the password was incorrect" but I really don't know where to put the password to restore it. I really have some files that are meaningful for me so I really need help. Any suggestions anyone?

Select your iDevice in the iTunes.
Choose the Summary screen (tab) and scroll to the bottom of the screen.
    Then un-select Encrypt iPhone backup.
iTunes will then prompt you to “Enter the password to unlock your iPhone backup”, enter the password you set originally.
