Restoring calendar backup block iCal from sync

So, the issues with iCloud calendar never ends. After the beautiful discovery i did in my other post, now i'm trying to recover my calendar backup. When i restore my .icbu file, iCal restore all then it get stuck while trying to sync with iCloud. So now, it's my Mac that can't sync with the other devices.
I try recovering the entire directory in the library with time machine, but nothing. Deleting the .plist file and nothing again. It doesn't talk with iCloud anymore, if anybody have some idea, would be glad.

Ok, seems i've found a way to solve the problem. For what i know the problem is with iCal of Mavericks 10.9 that's the system i'm running now.
Issue: you were previously syncing you calendar with your iCloud ID (with mac/me/icloud domain) and for some reason now, you need to log in with another apple domain and you can't sync your calendar or restore your calendar backup done with your previous login.
- go to iCloud panel in the preferences and disable the syncronization with iCal. It will delete all your calendar from your pc.
- go to ~Library/Calendar and delete all the directory inside it. To be able to empty the trash you need to restart the computer.
- after the restart open iCal again, you will start working locally. Create as many calendar you had in the past because you are going to move manually your old events over them.
- now, go in the directory where you saved your iCal backup and right click on the file, and select "show content" of the package, or use timemachine to recover your old calendar directory always under ~library.
- you will find a lot of directory name with letters and numers. Enter in the one that ends with ".caldav".
- now: every other directory you find inside contains the events of each single old calendar you had before. To see what calendar are you looking at, open one directory and open the info.plist you find inside it.
- on the bottom of the file you should be able to recognize the name of your calendar, so all your past events are in the directory "events" of the same directory.
- select all the events and move them over the calendar you've created locally on iCal.
- do this for each other calendar, you can forget all the others directory.
- when you are finish, go back on the icloud panel and activate the iCal sync with iCloud and let the two calendar merge. It will take a lot of time, more than you expect. Just be patient, because for a few events on two calendar, mine took several minutes.
- you are done, you should be able to sync everything again!
Remember that to be able to receive events and badge on the calendar of your iDevice, you need to use the original iCloud email you used at the moment you opened your account! No alias will work and even if you are like me an old mac.com members, neither me.com or icloud.com used in combination with your original username will work! They are like alias, with the difference that you can use them to log in your account!

  • Blocking users from syncing calendars and contacts from itunes

Is there a way to block users from syncing the corporate GAL and their Outlook calendars from their company computer?

Thanks for the answer Simon. That seems simple enough but there are some things which aren't clear.
If I create accounts on the server for the users independently (ie not ownership of the home folder) they're going to have different UID's. Surely this means that even with the same account name and password, they're going to be treated as unique users. Does that not affect who has write access? I don't know how the Calendar and Contact servers work so this may be irrelevant.
How do you "have the server host their calendar and contact details"? Copying the files for the existing local users to the new users on the server will leave them with invalid permissions.
I have read that using the Calendar and Contact components of Server.app is not a supported way of syncing across machines and that they're intended to be used for shared information rather than syncing. But maybe there is no way to avoid an "unsupported method" without moving the home folder. Is this a method you're using?
I'll do a bit of testing with this but would also be grateful for any additional hints.

  • How do I restore calendars in Lion iCal Server? Where are the files?

I am ready to pull my hair out.
I am an Apple Consultant as well.  However, Apple's choice to move to a postgres database without proper management tools is astounding.
So, Apple makes a dump file every night into /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup.
Note from the Advaced Admin help doc on apple.com:
"Calendar event data is stored in a postgres database, with some support files in the file system.
This is different from Snow Leopard Server, where all calendar data files were stored on the file system. Now only attachments and the proxy database are stored on the file system. All other calendar data is stored in a database.
When backing up calendar server files, make sure to back up the /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/ directory and the postgres databases.
    Database files
iCal Server uses database files for various purposes. It uses a postgres database to store calendar data. It uses sqlite files to store proxy relationships. To troubleshoot or resolve problems, an administrator needs to use postgres database queries. Teaching postgres database manipulation is beyond the scope of this topic.
To access the database, you need to use postgres and pg_ctl command-line tools."
I had a server crash at a client, and after TWO-THREE HOURS on phone with AppleCare Enterprise support, they said it would need an $895 support agreement to restore the calendars.  YET APPLE'S BUILDS IN THE BACKUP, BUT NOT THE RESTORE??
Yes, Time Machine has been working.
Anyone else have any bright ideas?

Thanks for catching that. I didn't notice my signature. No, I'm running 10.8.1 and have everything updated to the very latest versions.
I'm syncing many calendars to iCloud now, but there are about 10 that are not. They're still listed as "On My Mac" and I need to move them to iCloud.

  • How do I publish calendars imported into iCal from a .ics file to iCloud rather than MobileMe?

Having upgraded my iPhone4 & iPad to iOS5 and my iMac to OSX 10.7.2, I have been having trouble with duplicate calendar entries. Unfortunately, having deleted all but one calendar from the iCloud web interface, I heeded the mistaken advice to disable Calendars in the iCloud preference pane on the iMac and it deleted the calendars that had been removed from iCould from the iMac as well.
A few false starts later, I was able, after disconnecting all my devices from the net, to restore my iCal calendars with TimeMachine from before the chaos started then exported them as .ics files. After rebooting and re-enabling the network to the iMac, iCloud sync purged the restored calendars from iCal again, so I imported the .ics files into iCal and published them again, but the publish options only include MobileMe or a private server, so I chose MobileMe. iCal now happily shows all my calendars on the iMac again, but the iCloud web Calendar app can't see them.
How can I get iCloud to see the published iCal calendars again?

Solved, I think! What you need to do is log on to your icloud account at www.icloud.com, go to the calendar screen, click the gearwheel and choose New Calendar. Create a calendar here (ie up on the iCloud) with the name you want for your imported calendar data. Then switch to iCal - you may have to quit and relaunch for the new iCloud calendar to appear (or it will probably do so automatically if you wait long enough) then import the data using File->Import->Import... When you get to the step where it asks which calendar you want to import the data into, choose the new iCloud calendar you've just created. Job done!
To be complete in my answer, I don't think you can exactly do what you want to do, at least not at present. There doesn't seem to be any way to publish a calendar to iCloud after the first time you set up iCloud on your Mac when it exports any calendar data that is on the Mac at that time. I suppose that Apple feel that the way I have described works by exporting from one calendar and importing into another, so no need to provide a way of doing it directly.

  • Duplication of events in Entourage/iCal from syncing iPhone

Okay, I am sick to death of this..... I have all the latest software - Entourage 8, OS 10.5.5, iPhone 2.2.... When I sync, iCal is not smart enough to recognize that events in Entourage are the same events... and Entourage is the same way, so I have ended up with as few as three and as many as 35 of the same event on a given day. I have changed every setting I can find. Also, although I've told iCal to delete tasks & events over 30 days old, it's not doing it.... so the cycle is perpetuated and I end up with MORE of the same event on my calendar.
does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? And why in God's name won't iPhone just sync with Entourage without the middle man of iCal and Address Book?
    Thank you!

Okay, here is what I've found.
First thought two disclaimers: 1. I am no tech support person - by any means. 2. I'm not even sure if I can recall how I corrected this since I had to go back and forth in so many settings so many times (spending 80 minutes on the phone with a tech support buddy of mine).
    But, here goes:
iPhone has to use iCal to sync with Entourage. It's a work around, it *****, but that's the way it goes.
So open iCal and make sure that there is only one Entourage calendar that has been created (there should be a list of calendars with check boxes on the left side), if there are two or more, delete the extra ones (right click, choose delete). I think that if you look in Entourage preferences and under Sync Preferences ever clicked 'sync to iCal' off and then on again, you may have created a second Entourage calendar in the process. When I was doing this, I accidently deleted the original Entourage calendar that I had and the one left over was actually empty - which may have helped me in this process to start 'fresh' and perhaps stop the constant loop of repopulating events between iCal and Entourage.
Make sure that in Entourage preferences under Sync Preferences 'sync to address book' and 'sync to iCal' are both clicked on.
In iSync Preferences, I had to reset the sync history there and start all over again then hit sync on iTunes.
Leave iCal preferences alone. They should be fine.
If ever told there is a conflict in your syncing the calenders, choose Entourage over iCal for all (if this is an option - at first for me, it wasn't and only iCal and iSync were listed as options until eventually, somehow, one popped up with the options of both iCal and Entourage).
If/when given the option to use Entourage as the primary source, iCal as the primary source, or merge the two, choosing merge should allow you to either update your phone or Entourage and have it populate the other. Choosing 'entourage' will only allow you to update entourage and have your phone sync, but not the other way around.
The worst part of all this? I've found no work around to delete the extra events listed in Entourage. You still have to delete the new ones by hand, one by one, even if the above fix works.
I can unfortunately pretty much guarantee that I've missed several key points, verbatim language, or even a modicum of logical steps in the above, but again I was going back and forth so many times that I can't even begin to tell you how best to solve this in a linear manner. I'm hoping that this provides a little direction, maybe you post a follow-up question (or eight), and then I can provide a few more tidbits to hopefully get you back out of this miserable loop of re-populating events.
    Good luck!

  • How to restore my backup in laptop from external drive

How to restore my backup in my macbookpro from external drive

    Hello Jayrajjpatel,
It sounds like you have a Time Machine backup on an external drive that you would like to use to restore your computer. The following article will help you get that done, named:
OS X Mavericks: Recover your entire system
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14185
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your disk is on a network, make sure your Mac is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” then click Continue.
    Do one of the following:
External backup disk: Select it, then click Continue.
Time Capsule: Choose your network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
Network backup disk: Select it, then click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Google Calendar Delegates in iCal Not Syncing

    Hello Everyone.
I've been stumped on my issue for some time and have been researching but found nothing.
    OSX: 10.6.8
    iCal: 4.0.4
My boss uses google calendar.  I'm his assistant and he's shared that calendar with me so that I have access to it through my google account and I can add and delete events.
I like using iCal.  So I synced my iCal up with my google Calendar.  I used the calDAV method of syncing.  I can add and delete events to my calendar just fine.  I was able to add and delete events to my boss' calendar by creating a delegate calendar through iCal.  Everything worked fine.  However my boss added another calendar to his google account.  I didn't think this would have any effect on my ability to edit events as I simply set up my boss' new calendar as another delegate in iCal.
The problem now is that I cannot get either of my delegate accounts to sync.
I deleted my calDAV and started from scratch in iCal.  I added my googole account and delegates.  Everything works fine.  All of my boss' events load into my iCal but as soon I I try to edit one of them my delegate will no longer sync.
It seems like this should work and be easy but I cannot find a solution to keep my delegates syncing.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I also have a mobileMe calDAV that syncs just fine with iCal.
    Thanks!
    -Drew

Similar problem here. I can select the delegate calendars within iCal, but it simply doesn't sync any events for the delegate calendars. I'm also returned an error if I try to manually subscribe to the calendars, e.g. using a direct link from the Google calendar settings.
Either way, I think it's all related to a known block Google have implemented to deal with an iCloud conflict. Keep an eye here for a solution...although it's been several months already obviously:

  • How to restore or backup Apex application from Command line ? URGENT

We have Oracle apex 4.1 installed in Oracle 11g R2 database (windows 64-bit) 2008 R2
For some reason our database dictionary objects are corrupted.
We wanted to backup our Apex applications in some workspaces ASAP.
We are not able to access apex from http://localhost:7777/pls/apex/htmldb_login
We have an underlying database schema export (expdp).
    1) Is there a way to export or backup the apex application without logging into the apex URL ? if yes how ?
    2) Does Oracle has any of its own native tool to backup and restore from command line ?
    Thanks in advance

My (MS Windows) experience, if I may; perhaps you'll find something useful.
You'll find the README.TXT file in /apex/utilities directory. Read it.
In order to use APEXExport, you need JDK version 1.5 or higher. Check your version by typing (and viewing the result):
    C:\>java –version
    java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode, sharing)Its directory should be part of the PATH environment variable: on my computer, directory name isC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\binFurthermore, Oracle JDBC class libraries must be part of the CLASSPATH environment variable. Check whether it exists (in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables). For my 10gXE, it is here:C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarI couldn't make it work; didn't know that ".\" directory must be entered into CLASSPATH as well (found that information in Arie Geller's book). Therefore, my final CLASSPATH version is:.\;C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarOK, setup is done. Now, go to your /apex/utilities directory and, from the command prompt, run (mind the upper case!)java oracle.apex.APEXExportwhich will show a short help.
I chose to export the whole workspace. In order to do that, I need the workspace ID (got it from Apex's SQL Workshop; that might be a problem as you can't get there, can you? I can't tell how to find that information apart from SQL Workshop, but I'm pretty sure someone, who is much more experienced than me, will know it). OK, here's how you find it:select v('WORKSPACE_ID') from dual; Finally, here's the final step - export:C:\apex\utilities>java oracle.apex.APEXExport -db localhost:1521:xe -user scott -password tiger -workspaceid 1038408092496568The result are fxxx.sql files (where "xxx" represents application number).
I hope you'll manage to export your applications; basically, nothing special here (except that ".\" directory in the CLASSPATH variable).
    Best of luck!

I just got off the phone with verizon rep and did a backup and reset.  My calendar has nothing anymore, i go online and log into gmail calendar and see nothing.  So frustating had so much and relied on that everyday.  Is there anyway else to retieve? It said back up successful. Oh and all the pics that were on my camera I dont see either.

        vbriley,
We understand the importance of having a functional calendar. I rely heavily on my calendar as well for my family activites. If your calendar was saved to the Google calendars when you sign back in it will bring everything back. If you are not able to view your calendar when you sign back in it does mean your calendar was saved to the device. This would have been erased when the phone was reset. We apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Why can't get iCal to sync on my touch?

If I uncheck iCal from sync in iTunes my touch will sync. If I check sync iCal in iTunes it like the syncing freezes and it will not sync at all.

Click (or touch) the "Calendars" icon in the upper left corner.  You should see something similar to this:
"ICLOUD" should be the only calendar set indicated on each device (otherwise, you'll get double entries).

  • Restore iCal from Time Machine Backup

How do I restore iCal from a Time Machine backup?
I read that I was could restore from the following folder: ~/Library/Application Support/iCal
But this folder doesn't exist on my system.
    Any ideas?

    From home folder: library/calendars.
Then get this update. A senior tech at Apple today had me get this more comprehensive update and it restored all my calendar entries which were totally gone. I restored the calendars folder then did the update. Problem fixed. You need this update anyway.

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created a sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, download the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (and add apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps when the phone is plugged in for the first time will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be any less painful options to setup a new device from an iCloud backup of an old device. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.

Edit: Going to repost this in iPhone discussion. You may discard this posting here. I unfortunately couldn't delete the post.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.
