Restoring computer back to factory settings
I recently purchased a used Powerbook G4 12inch and the it still has the previous owners user account and password on it. I want to delete the profile but i cant because it is password protected is it a way to restore the computer back to factory and delete the profile so i can put my own information on there.
i dont have the original discs that comes with the computer. i brought the computer off of someone.
You can call Apple support and see if they have discs available to sell. Someone posted recently that discs for an older Powerbook were NLA. As I recall, they charge around $60 for the set.

Restoring computer back to factory settings ater upgrading to Maverick
I'm going to be selling my computer so I want to restore it back to the factory settings. I upgraded to Maverick so will that be a problem or do I just restore it as though no updates were done?
It would have helped to tell us you used Snow Leopard instead of us having to guess.
Do this, then:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -
I tried to set my computer back to factory settings by holding down the command + R key and when I turn on the computer it brings me to mt login page for my password
In order to return your computer to factory spec you need the discs, there is no other way. You can call AppleCare and give them the serial number and they'll ship you a set of the original discs for a fee, or providing that you have at least 1gb of ram you can purchase and install 10.6. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

I'm trying to set my computer back to factory settings, to make it like new. How do I do that?
Throw away any files which may contain sensitive data and securely empty the Trash.
If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, connect its original thumbdrive and restart the computer with the Option key held down.
If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Command and R keys held down.
Use the Disk Utility to erase the partition with Mac OS X installed, and then install a new OS onto it. If you used a disk and are going to sell or give away the computer, include the disk with it.

Restore iPhone back to factory settings
I have a question. I have been having problems with my iPhone 4 locking up. I wanted to try and restore it back to factory settings. It's still
running 4.0. Will it automatically update the os or just restore back to my last syncThe OS is not included in your iphone backup, thus if you restore your phone as a new device iOS 4.1 will be installed on your phone. Be sure an update to itunes 10.0 before you do so.

Restoring Mini back to factory settings
Hi all,
If I were to sell my Mac-Mini, how can I set it back to factory settings?
I want to delete all my personal stuff, mail, favorites, music, photos, etc.
Thanks
Web dudeInsert your original install disk, and reboot, holding the C key down after the startup chime to boot the system to the installer. Select your language, and in the installer screen, click the button for custom install options. From those options, select 'erase and install'.
This will reformat the drive and install MacOS. When the system is restarted after that, it will be as if it had been just unpacked, asking the user to go through the initial set up. -
How do i restore phone back to factory settings if there is no sim card and no internet connection
There is no sim card in my phone and no internet connection. How do i restore the phone back to the factory settings?
That is about all a user can do
One last thing ,try this thread
how to put iOS 7 into DFU mode
and try that although not an Apple supported process and read the posts carefully
but it does look as if it now is a hardware issue .....sorry
Did you not clear it before sending to the online Co
just a thought was it carrier locked ?if so I would guess the online Selling Co may have hacked it to remove the lock to sell it as a not carrier locked device -

I've used this same iTunes account multiple times to back up phones and restore them when I've gotten new devices. I have restored this device as well once before, but i want it as up to date as possible becuase I am getting the iPhone 6 tomorrow. I've run a diagnostics test and under the connectivity test its saying there is no iPhone found, as well as under the sync test. I've gone through all the steps and what the possible problem could be (un-installing and re-installing, making sure all the software is active and up to date on my computer and making sure everything is installed correctly and running properly) and I'm still getting the same error message. I'm out of options and idea. Please help!
Hey avitz99,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

gday i erased my imac from my ipad using the find iphone app,how do i restore it so it can b used again
What OS did the Mac come pre-installed with, or have you upgraded it to Lion or Mountain Lion? You should be able to re-install using Internet Recovery, if you were on either of those OS's.
Restart holding down Command + Alt (Option) + r
You'll probably prompted for your Apple ID and you'll need to have the Mac connected to the internet - ideally via ethernet cable, although wifi should be OK if you have a reliable connection.
More details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If you're on an earlier OS you'll need to use the grey restore disk that came with the Mac. Post back if you need more info.
P.S. Pleased to hear you got your Mac back. -

I have an old HP G5056EA Notebook PC.how do i restore it back to factory settings
is there an F KEY that i can press when i switch the laptop on?
Follow the instructions on this HP web document.
After pressing the power button, immediately start tapping the F11 key every second.
If the recovery partition is ok and no changes were made to the partitions then the recovery manager should start up.

How to restore an early 2009 iMac running Mavericks back to factory settings without discs
Today I got an early 2009 iMac from a family member, I would like to restore it back to its factory settings as if I was setting up a brand new computer. He does not have the discs that were originally with the iMac when he first purchased it. It is currently running on Mavericks OSX. Is it possible for me to restore this computer back to factory settings without the discs?
No. Phone Apple and order replacements, or if you don't need iLife, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store; the retail DVD can be used to create a bootable OS, but not to perform a true factory restore.

I had to take my computer back to factory settings and I lost my music. How do I get my music that I previously back on Itunes?
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Certainly you did not restore your computer without making sure that your backup copy was up to date.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
