Restoring Contacts by using OviSync

Hi all,
I just got my phone from Nokia center due to unable to register SIM problem. It has been fixed.
Before I send my phone to the Nokia center, I've created (1st time) Ovi account and sync my contacts in my phone to my Ovi account. (Note that I did not sync it with PC but by using OviSync only).
After I've got it from the Nokia Center, I use the OviSync function to restore my contact. All my contacts return but some contacts seems to be over-lapping (some contact has 2 numbers which originally they had 1 only).
So I decided to Mark all contact, delete them all, and resync again. But this time, my OviSync failed. 0 contact(s) were restored.
I've checked through the internet Ovi (https://contactsui.ovi.com/) and it seems that I have 0 contact.
How do I recover the previous Sync?
Thanks.

Personally I use the Ovi suite desktop, but do use the site as backup, but you need to set priority for change ie if conflict exists decide whether to keep detail on phone or detail on Ovi . Bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, but it's always adviseable to do a backup of the phone occasionally !

  • Nokia 6280 failure restoring contact list using pc...

    Hello,
    I own a Nokia 6280. Firmware - v3.81
    OS: Win XP.
I took the phone to my local phone provider(partner orange, from which I bought the device) to update the phones version. This action has deleted my entire contact list.
Beforehand I made a backup using the pc suite back up feature, and the backup went smoothly. Now, when I try to restore my info using the restore function in the backup(content copier),it restores everything except the contact list. Somewhat in the middle of the resotration of the contact list, an error jumps saying the connection to the phone has been list. A few seconds later the connection restores automatically.
I tried solving the problem using this thread:
    http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=7746&view=...
    But it didnt quite work
What can I do to solve this problem? How can I restore my contacts?
And if not, Is there a way to convert the Backup NBU file into Outlook VCF format?
    Best regards,
    Uri

I've got my entire contact list on the backup file.
except notepad can't disipher the the names into english, and so cant hexedit's of their sort.
Example from the notepad of the backup file:
    BEGIN:VCARD
    VERSION:3.0 /*jibrish should be the nemes*/
    N;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE;CHARSET=UTF-8:׳’׳ ׳¢׳“;׳¨׳‘׳™׳ ׳ ;;;
    TEL;VOICE:*phone number*
    TEL;HOME:*phone number*
    TEL;HOME:*phone number*
    TEL;HOME:*phone number*
    TEL;WORK:*phone number*
    END:VCARD
note. *phone number* replaced by me for confidentiallity.

I tried to recover the phone as soon as I recieved it from the phone provider with the new v3.81. That is , the manufacturer's settings were the default. Unfortunantly that didn't work.

There is no such thing as a "Factory Unlocked iPhone "
They are either locked to a carrier who may at some stage offer unlocking
or sold direct to a user by Apple (from their own Stores or online .)
    Those iPhones are NOT locked
Where did you get your iPhone
    If from Apple try this

  • How can I restore contacts from Backup Assistant

My contact list has been corrupted. I have been using Backup Assistant for some time and want to restore my contacts from a previous backup.
Verizon seems to have changed BA since the last time I used it and the only function seems to be to take my corrupted contact list from my phone and store it.  Any suggestions on recovering my non-corrupted contact list?

Here is a reply from a VW CS regarding the same question a few months back:
Click this link Backup Assistant (sign in) to check if contacts are available. You may sync directly from the site, by simply clicking sync on the right hand side (above contacts).
You may also try to sync by adding your G-mail account to the your device then go to Settings > Accounts & Sync > Ensure Sync is on for G-mail account. You may also select Auto-sync.

  • How to delete restored contacts in iCloud?

I've encountered an issue that's a 180 from the typical inquiry:  how to delete restored contacts.
Several months ago I deleted many of my iCloud Contacts as the list was becoming unwieldy.  (Used as a contact management database for business, it was numbering in the thousands and slow to search, load, etc.)  All of my devices were synced and the process was smooth.
Until yesterday, when out of the blue, all of the deleted contacts returned to iCloud, iPhone and Address Book.  No settings from the day prior had been changed.
So, is there a way to re-delete all of the unwanted contacts?  Yes, I can go back and manually delete all of them, but that's time consuming, and what's to prevent them from magically returning?

    Hey mzhill78
Remove you icloud contact information on all your IOS devices, go to the icloud setting on you ios device and turn off the addressbook syncing, when it asks you "do you want to remove keep the address on your ips device you say NO...  So now your MacBook is the only thing syncing too the icloud.
Go to Addresbook and look for the menu option find duplicates.
After that wait for your laptop to sync this too icloud.  to check give it about 2 min depending on how many changes log into your icloud account at www.icloud.com and check too see if the syncing has updated whats in the cloud.
If it has then urn on your addressbook syncing in iclouud settings on your IOS devices and all should be back too normal.
    Hope it helps,
If this has sloved your problem please mark it as Solved thank you..

  • Restoring Contacts

Need help restoring contacts.  I accidentally deleted all my contacts when trying to create an archive.  My "empty" address book then synced, of course, to all my devices.  I tried restoring a recent back-up of my iPhone.  My contact list gets restored, but when I connect to a network iCloud recognizes my empty contact list and proceeds to wipe it clean.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks a lot.

No, cod files are not backup files.
You need to search your entire PC for any IPD files, not IDF files.
So, when you go to restore, use the restore function to navigate to the most recent IPD file you find.

  • Restore don't restore contact, etc on my 6233! :(

hi, can some one please help me.
I backed up my 6233 using the latest version of PC suite (everything was backed up without problem).
When i tried to restore everything back, after the nokia service centre updated the firmware on my phone from 3.9x to 4.91, it won't restore the contacts, messages, callender or bookmarks (all the important stuff), so it's completely useless, the only thing it restored is the user files which i could not care less about!
Please help me, as i NEED my contacts at the very least!!

  • Restore contact on iPhone?

    Hi Supporter,
How can I restore contact on iphone?
    Camaritas

hmm, ok. then  guess I'm missing why iCloud is called a backup system. It's basically a synching mechanism in case you need to look something up when you don't have your phone with you.
I just mentioned kids, but it's easy enough for anyone to delete something by mistake. and if that get synched right away to icloud with no version control, what's the use for it besides what I mentioned above unless you just loose your phone. But even then if someone finds it and deletes your contacts that will get synched to iCloud and gets deleted from there as well.
SugarSync works in a similar way (instantaneous synching), but it keeps deleted copies so you can always get it back. I understand that it might take some extra space, so may be it should be limited by number versions kept or days or people would have to pay extra because otherwise it's confusing as it;s really not a Backup system at all...

  • Restore contact groups from time machine

We have had enormous problems restoring contacts from a TIme Machine backup. Does anyone know how to do this so that it works?
    1. All contact data disappeared. We still don't know why
    2. Opening the contacts program and then opening Time Machine allowed me to restore all contacts but not the contact groups
    3. Resptoring Username/Library/ Appication Support/ Address Book failed repeatedly because OSX kept recreating the Address Book folder with Configuration.plist in it before the restore took place. This obstructed the restore process
    4. After checking the user groups we turned off iCloud. OSX still kept on recreating Configuration.plist making it impossible to complete the estore from TIme Machine
    5. The process that worked (below) is very messy and demands a very quick hand. Please can someone tell me that there is a better and more foolproof method than this:
5.1 Disconnect Contacts from iCloud  and Shut the Contacts Application
    5.2 Delete Username/Library/Application Support/Address Book
5.3 Restore the Address Book folder from Time machine to a different location
5.4 Rename the restored Address Book folder to "Address Book 2"
5.5 Move Address Book 2 into the Application support folder
5.6 Select Address Book - you've just deleted it but OSX will have put it back. Press Get Info
5.7 Select Address Book 2 (the one you have restored from Time Machine) and press Get Info
5.8 Quickly before OSX has time to think using the two Get Info windows rename Address Book to Address Book Old and IMMEDIATEY rename Address Book 2 to Address Book
5.9 If you are lucky / fast enough the restored Address Book will now be there when you open Contacts
    6. I have not yet checked to see what happens when we reconnect to iCloud. According to another user group post we may have to
6.1 Export the (now correctly restored) Address book
    6.2 reconnect to iCloud
    6.3 Delete all the contacts
6.4 Reimport the exported address book
Please someone tell me there is a better way than this. When it works Time Machine is marvellous. But this isn't how it is meant to be
    Many thanks
    Julian

With Mail in the foreground and the browser window showing, enter Time Machine. Scroll back to a snapshot that contains the messages you want to restore. Select them, then click the Restore button in the lower right corner of the screen.

  • Can I restore contacts from I tunes deleted by mistake

while having my new I Pad connected to the pc and while synconizing, some of my ontacts were deleted by mistake manually! However, the contacts were available on the IPhone but when I connected the IPhone to the computer, the same contacts were deleted from the IPhone!
Is there away to restore the I Tunes status to retrieve my missing (deleted) contacts?

Contact are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.  Do the contacts still exists in that application on the computer or the cloud service (i.e. iCloud, Gmail, Exchange)?
If they do not exist there, then there is nothing to restore.
If you have not been syncing them as designed, you can try restoring the device using a backup created prior to the contacts being deleted to see if that restores them.

i restored contacts from time machine for my address book. my restored contacts show up correctly in the "last import" section. my "all contacts" i want to delete and replace them with the restored contacts. do i delete all the "all contacts" and then make the "last import" take their place?

How did you do that? See the yellow box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If you did something else, that's probably why you're seeing what you are.

That will probably work; if not, use the procedure in #15.

You should be regularly syncing your contacts to your computer using iTunes, therefore just sync them back to the phone.
