Restoring data from Itunes to Ipod

I have the 5th generation Ipod Video. In trying to add some post cast and music to my ipod...I loaded the music, etc. on I tunes...then pluged my ipod in...it walked thru the loading process....and said that the update was complete. However, non of the new stuff was on the ipod. I reset it...and decided to restore my software on the Ipod. Now I have a clean Ipod...with no data. None of the data is syncing...it goes thru the steps and tells me that it the update is complete. There is nothing on the ipod. On I tunes my Ipod name is showing...and under the menus it show everthing that should be on the Ipod..Any ideas??

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure you are updating automatically. Go to edit-->preferences with the iPod connected and hit the iPod tab. Make sure automatically update is checked.
Also, make sure everything is updated...
iPod Updater Download Page
iTunes Download Page
Finally, when it says update is complete, try going to file-->update iPod.

  • HT1766 Manually restore data from iTunes to iPhone

My 64 gb iphone 5 had the sleep button defect, and it is being fixed free. They gave me a 16 gb replacement to use until mine is back from being repaired. I backed up my 64 gb to itunes before I let them send it in, but when I try to put everything on the replacement 16 gb, it is to much data and I can not find where I can manually choose what I restore (such as just contacts). That is what I need help with.
However, I want to MAKE SURE that if I restore (only contacts) on this lended iphone, that it will NOT overwrite my original backup on the 64 gb iphone because then I would lose the data that won't fit on the 16 gb. I set the lended iphone up as a new iphone to ensure that it should have seperate backup than my 64 gb iphone, but I wasn't sure if it would overwrite my 64 gb backup once I manually restored it.
If anyone could help, I would realy appreciate it.

No, you've got it right. I used the Restore feature in iTunes to wipe my iPhone. From there, i restored the latest backup (Last Synced- Today) as opposed to creating it as a new device. Now, I want to put the synced data that is in iTunes back onto my iPhone.
What I am worried about is that by pressing "Sync," the data in iTunes will be replaced by the data - or lack there of - on my device. Basically, I want to make sure that by pressing "Sync," my iTunes data isn't going to be deleted.
Thanks for all the help Dave, sorry this is so confusing

  • Restoring data from iTunes backup (only contacts and messages)

Hello!  I've seen a lot of threads about restoring via iTunes but haven't found my particular situation yet.  So hopefully someone can give me some insight into my predicament.  I updated my iPhone 4S with io7 and my wifi broke.  So I got a new iPhone 4S with ios6 loaded on it.  I want to keep ios6 until Apple can figure out how to fix the wifi/bluetooth chip running hot.  I backed up my phone right before I swapped to the new 4S.  But when I try to restore from backup it won't let me because the backup I did was with ios7 and it wants me to upgrade my ios6 to ios7.  Obviously I don't want to do that only to have my new phone break again.
Options I see is pay for some 3rd party software that can restore my contacts, texts, etc. Upgrade to ios7 and pray it doesn't break again.  Get a new phone.
But I don't like any of those options.  I want to keep ios6 until they make me upgrade it.
    Anyone have any ideas???
    Apreciate the help in advance.

No it isn't something you'd find on the computer, it has to be custom installed from the 10.6 installer disc or Software Update if it wasn't before.  It allows you to use older PowerPC applications on your Mac.   On the other hand double check the version of iTunes you have does not require 10.7 minimum either.

Select setup as "New", the next screen should prompt you to rename your phone. Just name it what you already have it named. After that, you should be able to sync and all of your data & settings will still be exactly as you've already set them up on your phone. The message is more threatening than what really happens.

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

Thanks for replying, I'm a real techno-cretin.  What do you mean by not using the backup?  I'm busy trying to restore my new phone and it's doing a 6 hour download with updates.  Can I restore the data from my old phone backup onto the new iPhone 4S when the download is done?

  • How can I restore data from iCloud

My iPad locked up last night and I had to restore to factory settings to make it operable.  During the process it asked me if I wanted to restore my data and it told me that the latest and only backup was from a few minutes before that time which was AFTER all my stuff got wiped out.  I was able to resync some apps and all my music from iTunes, but I lost a ton of pictures and other files that I thought were SUPPOSED to be safe on iCloud.
So I start reading about restoring data from iCloud and apparently Apple only does this on a NEW device.  What a load of crap!
Does anyone have any idea how I can get my data from the stupid iCloud to my stupid iPad?

The "Apple data" such as contacts, calendars, notes, etc. are not backed up to an iCloud backup, since they reside in the special databases on iCloud.  If you delete some data from a device (e.g. one contact), it is deleted from that device, from iCloud's database and thus from all other devices connected to that iCloud account.
Hence performing a restore from an iCloud backup will not help.
However, if that data was ever on a computer (assuming the computer also synced data from iCloud) and if you consistently perform backups using something like Time Machine on a mac or any number of backup programs on Windows, then you should be able to restore the data from that backup.  For example, on a mac, invoke the contacts app then choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine icon on the main toolbar.  That will allow you to go back in time and choose an older backup to restore.
If you have an iTunes backup on the computer, I'm not really sure that also includes the Apple data stored on iCloud.  It should have the local data.  For example, Contacts can be under "iCloud" or "On My Mac" (or whatever computer you use).  An iTunes restore should restore the data on your computer.
The whole idea regarding an iCloud backup is that if your device ever fails and must be replaced or reset, the backup will restore all the data as it was at the time of the last backup.   The restore will return all the device's settings such as iCloud login, on/off states of data to connect to (like contacts).  Once that's done, the device will connect to iCloud and download the current data.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • Recover deleted songs from iTunes using iPod

I will preface by saying, I am an idiot, so please phrase your answers like you're talking to a 10 year old. I have a new Mac (my first) and I had iTunes all set up and working correctly until somehow I deleted a folder with half my music in it. It is all on my iPod, however. How do I get it from my iPod back into iTunes? There is some SINCERE gratitude here for anyone who can help.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent it auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
Change your update setting to manual so that you can use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article:: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    iPodAccess Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    PodUtil Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are relatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I dont have imovie on my iphone 6 64gb now after that i restored it from itunes

i bought my iphone 6 64 gb and i had imovie and all the apples on it preinstalled now that i restored it from itunes i dont have the apps and when i go to app store it asks me to buy them i want them for free as i had them when i first used my phone

    Hello there, heavendevil.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for how to download previously purchased content to your iOS device:
Download past purchases - Apple Support
    Before you begin
Sign in with the Apple ID that you used for the original purchase. Use these steps to see which Apple ID you used to download an item.
See if the content is available for redownload. Previously purchased items might not be available if they're no longer on the iTunes Store. If you changed your Apple ID from one country to another, you can’t download items you purchased in a previous country.
If you're using Family Sharing, you can use these steps to download your family member's content.Download previous purchases on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Make sure your iOS device meets these system requirements:
    iOS 4.3.3 or later
You need iOS 5 or later to download items to iPhone (CDMA model).
iBooks 3.0 or later to download books
    Apps
    Tap App Store.
If you're using an iPhone or iPod touch, tap Updates, then tap Purchased.
If you're using an iPad, tap Purchased.
Find the item that you want to download.
Tap the Download icon. After the app downloads, you can open it from the Home screen.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • When I turn on my new iPhone 5s, I have to select a language and county and then my only options are to restore backup from iTunes or restore from iCloud.  I have already restored form iTunes, so what am I doing wrong?

When I try to turn on my new iPhone 5s, the ONLY options it gives me is to either backup from the iCloud or restore backup from iTunes.  I have already restored the backup from iTunes, so I don't know why it keeps telling me to restore the backup.  And why won't it give me any other options?  I can't text, call, etc.  My phone will do NOTHING.
    Any suggestions?

It seems you restored from a blank back up if it is still asking you to choose one of those options. Set it up as new then manually restore from back up with iTunes on your computer and be sure to check the date of the back up an which phone the back up is from.

    Which password?
If you mean the passcode to your iPhone, here's the solution:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you mean the encryption password to your backup on your computer:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
