Restoring default console font size

I recently performed a long overdue series of updates, and now I'm facing the same font size issue that was discussed in this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=96768

But the thing is I actually like the font, it's just the size that I'm trying to change. When the system starts to boot, the size is great. It's only after "waiting for udev uevents to be processed" has finished that the font gets tiny. So I know the right settings are somewhere in there, I just don't know where to keep them the way they are without getting changed.
I have a sneaking suspicion the fix is easy, I'm just missing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As far as I can tell, the default font is called, oddly enough, default - and if you look in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts you will see only two options: 8x16 and 8x9 - use setfont to confirm.
If neither of those is large enough after KMS kicks in, you might try one of the other older school fonts in that directory.
Oddly enough, it is called default, haha. Played around with a couple of the font settings, but what wound up happening was that it would load the font, and then after ""waiting for udev uevents to be processed" finished, the font got tiny again.
So it might be a resolution thing. Will look into that.

I'm a Slackware user, and I have a cross-distro question to the Arch gurus here. I like using a custom font (Lat2Terminus16) in the console, on servers. Now I remember having defined this font as default in the Arch console when I gave it a try, and then added it not only to rc.conf, but also to the configuration file that drives the initrd creation. Thus, the console font was defined very early in the boot process.
Now here's my question: is there any way to achieve this on a stock Linux distribution like Slackware? The man page for mkinitrd and mkinitrd.conf doesn't say anything about custom console fonts. So how do you guys do that?

Yes, but there's no HOOKS and no FILES section in a default Slackware install. My question was more or less to the Arch devs, to know if there was a *generic* (e. g. non-Arch-specific) way to achieve this.

Consolas font size (system vs. xfce4-terminal)

I use infinality's patched fontconfig and the Consolas font for monospace. The problem I have is that 10pt Consolas is, imo, too small, whereas 11pt is too large.
The screenshot below shows how they look on my system (in Sublime Text, but its the same in e.g. Eclipse). The thing is that xfce4-terminal somehow displays
Consolas differently. I really like the style, but I dont know why this is the case and how to get the style in Sublime Text and Eclipse (or systemwide). Screenshots:

As you can see, the terminal version is smaller than 11pt but larger than 10pt. It is indeed Consolas, I checked multiple times.

The first two images are using the Truetype hinter, whereas the third image is using autohinter. Not sure how some of your programs could be using one, but others using the other one? I would check your fontconfig settings. Also, unless your DPI is set to 72, pt heights are different than px heights (points vs. pixels). So, there may in fact be one size inbetween the two you mentioned if you're using 96 dpi.

Console font size in console mode Arch x86_64

i do fresh install Archlinux 2013 x86_64. so i see some change btwin that and 2011, any way , everythings work OK, fast (KDE) but sometime i need work in console mode (ctrl+alt+f1) but i cant change resolution of console font, because now is settingsome basic and so big. i have nvidia card and drivers. i try read ths https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Uvesafb but i cant find some solutions how setting everything with grub2 etc. in my old laptop i have arch 2011 and grub1 but everything work OK include console font, that was much better to setting, in that arch i cant find any working solution, so please help me if somebody know about this.

I suspect that it's still the case. You may even have this message in your own dmesg.
Switch console to VGA mode and use xterm instead.
This has nothing to do with resolution setting in a framebuffer, which is what the title of the thread suggests.
I'm pretty sure it does - it looks like the console is being switched to VGA text mode; nvidia has no reason to touch fonts.

Changing default interface font size has no effect

Just setup my shiny new iMac with 5K retina display. Images in Lightroom, of course, look stunning on the display. Problem is that all the interface elements are now displayed at a very small size. I've tried setting the font size in Preferences/Interface to "Large", but nothing changes. Any suggestions? With the increasing use of 4K and now 5K displays, I'd think being able to set a more easily readable font size for the interface elements (while still displaying images in all they retina-resolution goodness) would be an important option to have. Lightroom 5 the font sizes changed to Small, Medium, Large 150% and Largest 200% (the last one is what you want for QHD displays.)
LR4 only had 3 font size choices (Auto,Small and Large) and does not support QHD/4K displays.

I am assuming you mean the font size in a table.
I have not made many templates but here is what I just did:
New document
Selected the table and set the font size to 18pt
In the sidebar next to "Basic" I clicked on the triangle and chose "redefine style from table"
Saved the document as a template
A new document created from this template has 18pt text in the table. New tables I create are created with 18pt text.
Is that what you are looking for?
If you use one of the other table styles from the sidebar, you will have to do the same thing to them as you did for the basic table style before you save it as a template.

What's the default console font?

And what size/weight is it? I used to think this font was ugly and unfriendly, but I've grown more attached to it over time. I would also like to use this same font in X, as my urxvt/xterm default font. Is this possible?

I tried various combinations of Fixed, and I think that's the font, but the closest I got was size 15 bold. The problem is it's still too wide and some of the glyphs are off. I remember reading about the default font in Windows Powershell and most Linux Consoles on Wikipedia, but I can't remember what it said
If only I knew! There might even be a truetype version floating around the net.

Try to set the Boolean pref gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false on the about:config page.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

How do I set default font size?

Some programs (most importantly for me, Thunderbird) use a default font size that is too small for my eye comfort. Some (such as Firefox) allow me to change the font size, but Thunderbird does not (though there is a menu item to change font size, which does not work).
I gather that such programs are using a default system font size. So I would like to change this. Some Help articles suggested that I could do this from the Font Panel, but they give no indication where to find the Font Panel. I cannot find it in System Preferences or via the Spotlight.
I am using OS X 10.4.7
I am computer-literate, but new to the Mac, having had this computer for about a week and a half.
P.S. In Thunderbird -> Preferences -> Fonts there is an option to configure the fonts used by Thunderbird. The settings affect messages, but not the main window with the message list. However, at this point I'd really like to set the system default so all programs that use the system default will be affected.

It only works for that page of that web site, as soon as you leave you start all over again.
Can't we just say Firefox messed up and needs to revert to the way it used to work without have to do ANYTHING to adjust any sizing.
This is utterly ridiculous.
It's a web browser for GOD sakes...not the OS. It shouldn't be doing anything but displaying web sites with NO INTERVENTION by the user for each and every page.
Why are programers always looking for ways to take a working product and make it useless???

Default font size for exporting CSS styles?

I make the layout of websites in indesign cs3 with all text properly set to be defined by paragraph styles.
I then export to an epub file from which i can extract a css file. Problem is all sizes are in em units.
Those em's seem based on 12pt, while the default font size of most (all?) browsers is 16pt.
For example:
p.body {
     font-family: "Verdana";
     line-height: 1.64em;
     font-size: 0.92em;
     margin-bottom: 0.00em;
     margin-top: 0.77em;
     text-indent: 0.00em;
     margin-right: 0.00em;
     margin-left: 0.00em;
     text-align: left;
     font-weight: normal;
     font-style: normal;
     color: rgb(0,0,0);
The correct font size (the one set in indesign) should be 11pt. In the css file i get 0.92em. (so indesign assumed 1em = 12pt)
With a browser default size of 16pt, the text displays too big: 1em = 16pt so 0,92em = 14,72pt.
In other words: all text is displayed to big, text that should be 11pt is displayed at 14pt.
So is there a way to tell indesign when exporting css 1em = 16pt instead of 12pt?
I tried adjusting the default paragraph font size to 16pt (it is 12 pt by default) and base the body paragraph style onto this one, but the css file doesn't change.

Well i found a workarround on another forum.
Instead of making indesign think 1em = 16pt, make the browser think 1em=12pt.
Adding this line of code to the css file makes the font sizes in indesign and website match:

    font-size: 0.75em;

Is there a way to change the font-size in the html element

I notice that by default, the font-size in the boilerplate.css file is set to 100%. Is there a way to set it to something else such as 62.5%? I would like to see exactly what my content will look like in my WordPress theme. I build my themes using a font-size of 62.5%. This make's it very easy to do the arithmetic when using the "rem" unit.
I tried manually changing the size in the css boilerplate file but that did not work. If this cannot be done in the current version, I may be a usful feature in a future version. Thanks.

If you click on "Body" in the status bar and select the Styling tab, you can set the text properties that cascade from the body element.

But this doesn't work when I just wrire text after creating annotation.
And suprisingly it works fine when I click first outside of the annotaion and then double click to write text inside annoatation.
Is this bug of Adobe ? if not then please let me know the fix.

Font size in Photoshop looks totally different in Web

i have a very strange problem. Im using Photoshop CS6 right now to make some modifications to my website.
We are using font type Arial 12pt in the PSD file and also Arial 12pt in the web. But in the web the font looks much bigger than in the psd file.
When we save the PSD as a JPG file in browser and compare it to the website the fonts of the JPG file look fine but in the web they look much bigger.
It seems we have to use 12px in the Web so it will look same like 12pt in PSD.
But im very confused by this. How is that possible? Or what are we doing wrong?

The web runs on pixels, not point. Depending on the default browser font size, system font sizes and a million factors the dynamically rendered type in the browser can always look different. Even assuming 72 dpi isn't exactly true any longer due to high-DPI displays and browsers using other logic internally. that and of course the CSS formatting on the web site can override certain things as well... Complicated subject with no easy answers. Generally you should expect that it will look off more than expecting it to look right under all conditions. Therefore make up your mind how you render certain texts and don't intermingle image-based text them too much with normal text.

We have a new iMac and the font is so little that it can hardly be read. This happens on everything. How can it be increased so a normal person can read it. Help!

Select the Desktop and press COMMAND-J to open the View dialog. Set the desired font size from the dropdown menu. Now select a Finder window and set the desired font size there. Do the same for all your windows until you have it set as you like it.
When you open any applications there usually is a default display font size you can set. In Safari you can set a minimum font size in the Advanced panel of Safari preferences.
Open Accessibility preferences in System Preferences and turn on Zoom so you can enlarge any window or screen if there is no other way to make it more readable.
These techniques do not require changing the display resolution. I would only suggest that as a last course because LCD displays have default resolutions that provide the highest quality image. Changing that also can reduce image quality.
