Restoring Default Fonts After Installation Issues

I tried to install a bunch of fonts on my new MacBook Pro. When I was installing them it warned me that a few fonts had problems. Then it hung up for several minutes before crashing. I would very much like to get my machine back to the default factory-installed fonts. Is there a simple/fast way to do this without messing up anything?

Okay, here's what I learned from AppleCare.
Before doing this go to Library>Fonts and drag the fonts folder to your desktop to back it up. Then proceed with the following.
1. Go to Applications>Utilities>Directory Utility.
2. Enable the Root User by going to Edit>Enable Root User.
3. Log out and log back in as the Root User.
4. Go to Root's home folder>Library>Fonts.
5. Trash the fonts folder.
6. Log out and log back in as your normal user.
7. The fonts should rebuild themselves.
8. Be sure to go back to Applications>Utilities>Directory Utility and disable the root user to prevent other problems.

    Sankalp,
I too have the error 0x81000033 when running the full system image backup.  I could not assign a drive letter to my 100mb drive with the Disk Management.  So, I went into the diskpart and ran the following commands:
    diskpart
    list disk
    DISKPART> list par
      Partition ###  Type              Size     Offset
      Partition 1    System             100 MB  1024 KB           ( 78.2 of 96.0MB free )
      Partition 2    Reserved           128 MB   101 MB
      Partition 3    Primary             73 GB   229 MB
      Partition 4    Recovery           423 MB    74 GB
    sel dis 0
    list par
    select partition 1
    assign letter=q
    fsutil usn queryjournal q:
    fsutil usn deletejournal /D q:
After diskpart, I opened the "My Computer" and see that I have 78.2 of 96.0MB free.  Despite that, I ran these commands on the new q: drive:
    C:\Windows\System32>q:
    Q:\>fsutil usn queryjournal q:

The FSUTIL utility requires a local NTFS volume.
    Q:\>fsutil usn deletejournal /D q:

  • Need to restore default fonts

I have really messed up my fonts and its affecting my system. After installing tons of third party fonts, resolving duplicates, disabling random fonts, I give up. How do I just wipe out all fonts and reinstall the default fonts?

I just encountered the same problem, and here was how I fixed it:
    1. DownloadLinoType FontExplorer X from
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27903
    2. Run the program
    3. Select Clean up System Font Cache (restore to original setting)
    4. The fonts that you added recently would be removed from the system and put into a file on the desktop and you can reinstall them later.
    I hoe this helps!
    Cheers

  • After installation: issues with TOC subchapters

    Hi all,
I noticed that after installation on a device there were two issues with subchapters in the TOC (i.e. what would be books in a classic Webhelp or HTML Help).
    1. Wrong jumps
When jumping into the submenu of the TOC and when returning using the 'back' button at the top of the submenu, there is often a wrong jump to an arbitrary topic of the project. This was consistent in a particular output, but if I simply generate and install the apk again then it is usually gone or a different submenu show this problem.
    2. System default styles applied
Instead of using the hover and active colors defined for toc nodes in the Screen Layout (e.g. brown in the iPhone layout), the default highlight colors of the mobile device (e.g. green) are applied. This is only the case when jumping into a submenu or back, not for other actions of the apk's UI. It seems that perhaps a CSS definition is missing in the mobile.css?
I tested this using the Android phone and iPhone layouts. None of these problems occur when viewing the HTML 5 output in the browser. Does anybody else encounter these problems / know a solution?
    Robert

Solved: the mystery of the erratic jumps.
The reason is an inaccurate control. If I touch the display with my finger tip at the vertical middle of a TOC entry and with the lower part of my finger tip also touching into the next TOC entry, then the app highlights the first entry but jumps to the second target.
Maby an issue of the HTML5 code, maby an issue of my device..
Addition: I tested it on two other devices and they show this issue too, although to a varying extent depending on screen resolution. The problem remains that if the user touches the fields inaccurately then the software sometimes highlight one TOC entry but jumps to the next entry's target.

  • Restore default Font

it's possible to restore to fonts to default?

when I have restore the fonts to the default, how can I recover the custom fonts? (fonts that installed by Office 2008 & Adobe products)
That's a bit different than the initial question, which was to "restore fonts to default". Which I think most people would read as you only want the original OS X supplied fonts on your system.
If you placed the fonts you cleared out of the two folders noted above into another folder, you can just drag and drop the non OS X fonts back into the /Library/Fonts/ folder. If you'd rather have pristine copies of the fonts you mention, you can grab them from the original disks.
For the Adobe fonts, I'm looking on the CS4 Design Premium disks, though you should be able to find them pretty much the same way with any of the CS applications. Insert disk 1 (that's where mine were). Double click the desktop icon of the DVD. Double click the application icon, then the folder "payloads". That folder may be on a different disk, depending on what Adobe software you have, but if you find "payloads" on that disk, the next folder to open is "AdobeFontsAll". In that folder, double click the disk image "AdobeFontsAll.dmg" to open it. Now open the folder "Assets" and then "contents". Drag and drop all of the fonts from the disk image "contents" folder to the /Library/Fonts/ folder of the hard drive.
For Office 2008, insert the installation disk and run the installer. When you get to the Installation point, click on the Customize button. Uncheck "Microsoft Office 2008" and "Dock Icons", so only "Office Fonts" is checked. Click the Install button.

  • Restoring default fonts without reinstalling OS X?

I recently uninstalled a trial version of Microsoft Office, and followed an online tutorial to delete any and all files associated with it. However, by mistake, I deleted some of my default fonts. I've tried using Font Book to recover them but it keeps returning the same error message; "Please reinstall Mac OS X to recover default fonts". I am currently running Mountain Lion, and do not have a bootable version of it with which to reinstall.
I'd like to know if there's an easier way of restoring all my fonts at once, or at least determining which ones are missing so that I could reinstall them each at a time.

There is an option in Font Book to "Restore Standard Fonts"
    Check attached image:

  • Restore default fonts?

I played with my fonts a little while back and I'd like to get back the default fonts. I can't find a restore "button" for that, so does anyone either have a list of the default settings, or a quick way to restore those defaults?

Your Mailbox font and Message list font are Lucida Grande, and your Message font is Helvetica; you pick the size that works best for you.

  • How can I restore default fonts?

Today I installed a Greasemonkey script called Gmail Super Clean in Firefox and I installed these; http://www.osx-e.com/downloads/misc/macfonts.html new fonts as well. After doing this the fonts on my system have been very screwy i.e. there are mixes of Arial and Times New Roman on several apps and I am seeing what I think is Hebrew text on all of my iTunes library as well as on any text I type into the Google.com. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get back my default fonts for the whole system or at least stop seeing foreign languages. Thanks for any info or help.

Re-install the font packages. You can see which ones you have installed with
    pacman -Q font
You could probably just do this:
    pacman -S $(pacman -Qqes font)
It may re-install a few packages unnecessarily, but it should include all the currently installed font packages.

  • Change of font after installation of firefox 9

Because I had problems with the view of most Web pages in Firefox, I uninstalled the program. Then I installed 9 Firefox.
Since then, the Web pages are not good with the displayed font. Almost all text is bold or italic.
This is, after installation, also the case with Google Chrome and even in Microsoft Word. In Microsoft Word could I still only get letters bold font Times New Roman

If I step through the control panel, which you recommended me, I get the following message:
The font is already installed. If you want to install a new version you must first remove the old version.
If I open the microsoft link, I see the following message:
As one of the standard Windows fonts missing, you can run Windows Setup again. The missing or modified files are then reinstalled. If these standard fonts are missing, this is possibly also for other Windows files. These files are also reinstalled, Setup.
Warning If you run Windows Setup, start programs and hardware drivers that you installed since the last time that Windows is installed on your computer may be lost. Please contact the support department for more information about the files that you can lose. On the following Microsoft Web site provides information on how to contact the support center:

I dare not to run Windows Setup again. What you counsel me?

  • Restoring Default Fonts without Mac Installation Disk

I am stuck away from home on business and I mistakenly deleted some of my core fonts now some of my programs are not working correctly. Is there anywhere where I could download a file with all the fonts included in OS X 10.5 startup disk? I guess that it is possible to make a trip to the Mac store but the nearest one for me is a four hour bus ride... So ideally this would be avoided via internet if at all possible. (I would have guessed that the Apple page would offer this type of service but all I could find is a listing of the fonts that are "supposed" to be there)
    Any help please?

no, this is not possible. distributing any parts of OS X via internet is a clear violation of leopard ULA. anyone who tries to do that on this forum will be quickly stepped on by the moderators. you need to get the fonts off the leopard dvd when you get it. and be careful what you delete.

This is the last paragraph of the error code as i cant display all because of the restriction, i really dont understand what going on though. My guess is there is a problem with some java script not applying properly.
But i will welcome any suggestion or possible solutions.
    Thanks

  • How to restore missing fonts after Mavericks upgrade

If your fonts are not working in Pages and other software after a Mavericks  'upgrade', it might be that you still have them, and simply need to turn them back on...
    1. Go to Font Book
    2. Find the failing fonts.
    3. If they are marked 'Off' then right click them and highlight 'Enable Fonts' option.
    Hope this helps!
    Dan
FWIW Mavericks has wasted DAYS of my time this week... it disabled fonts, made my WD HDD incompatible, trashed Time Machine and lost my Google Drive folder, so my files don't sync etc.

There's a very old thread about this for CS2. Domingo Chavez listed the required fonts and where they belong for that version, and even posted them for others to download and replace. I don't know if the collection has changed, but judging from my system I think not, so it would be worth trying the older files. As always, back up first..
Start reading at http://forums.adobe.com/message/1308262#1308262 where you'll see the lists, and a bit further down you should find the links to where the files were posted. The first link is to a.rar archive, further down is a link to a slightly freindlier .zip version. What the heck, here's that link, which still seems to be active: http://public.newrandom.com/Reqrd.zip
But read the thread, anyway, so you understand what's up.

  • Default passwords after installation BPA Repository

I Installed the BPA Repository on my Windows server succesfully using an existing database.
Now I try to connect to the server using de BPA admintool. I connect to the server 'localhost' and password CFGADMIN. But the connection is refused because the password in not correct.
I am sure the repository is running because I started it manually (and the window doesn't show any errors and when I shutdown the repository I getting a server error when using the admintool instead of a password error).
What are the default passwords for configadmin and siteadmin?
What is the difference between siteadmin and configadmin?
Is localhost the correct one (I am running the BPA admintool on the server where the Repository is running).

    Gertjan,
What are the default passwords for configadmin and siteadmin? For siteadmin the default password is: SITEADMIN
for configadmin the default password is: CFGADMIN
What is the difference between siteadmin and configadmin?Site administration tool lets users manage multiple Business Process Repositories from a single tool.
The configuration admin is local to a server and is for controlling method filters, evaluations filters and for controlling user access.
Is localhost the correct one (I am running the BPA admintool on the server where the Repository is running).Yes, you can use either the local host, or the name or the IP address.
    Best Regards,
    Sidda
