Restoring defined sites

Hi,
I had a number of defined sites in Dreamweaver MX.
When I start DW MX, my defined sites would normally appear in the site panel/window. This morning they were not there - none of my sites exist any more!
Please can someone tell me how I can restore all of these sites without having to manually re-enter passwords, usernames etc?
I have a full back up using (Mac) Time Machine. I restored the DW MX application folder - this didn't work.
I trashed the Preference file, emptied trash and restarted - no luck.
Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I can see where to get the site pref file on a mac if I was using DW CS3.
However I am using DW MX and the suggestion for older versions ie Macromedia > Common... does not give the same result on either my local drive or removable back up drive. There is only one file in "Common" > Personal Dictionary.tlx.
Below the "Common" folder is another called "Dreamweaver MX". Is it possible that the required file is in there under a different name? Perhaps in the "SiteCache" folder (clutching at straws here).

  • How to restore a site deleted from SharePoint Designer 2010

    Hi All,
I have opened a test server site in share point designer 2010, & deleted that particular site in SP designer 2010,can anyone let me know how to restore the site by using SharePoint Designer?
I followed below mentioned procedure to restore the site using SharePoint Designer
Open SharePoint Designer, File tab, Sites under File Tab, Open site, specified the URL of site,opened..
It is getting connected to the Organisation network & showing "path does not exist, check the path and try again".
Whether, Is it possible to restore the site deleted from share point designer in site collection recycle bin. or
Is it possible to copy the site from Production server to test server.
Waiting for an response at the earlier.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Badri

    Hi Badri,
1.You could not restore site deleted from SharePoint designer in site collection, you can only restore the site deleted from
UI in site collection recycle bin, deleted from end user recycle bin.
2.You can export the site from production server, then import it to test server.

  • Managed Metadata appearing in wrong columns after Restoring a site to a new Site Collection

I've restored a site with some libraries that have Managed Metadata (MM) columns from one site collection into another site collection inside the same web app so it should all subscribe to the same Managed Metadata
    Service Application.
There are two MM columns in one library, one holds a single value which is what type of document it is, the other is a general tag field that allows the user to add multiple MM values to it if they want.
What we've found  is that data has randomly disappeared on some MM fields, on others it appears in the wrong column, and in other cases it appears fine.
I used native out of the box GUI backup and restored with the command line,
I've done it twice with the same result, so it’s not a one off corruption during backup. It's the same story in a different doc library based on different term sets as well.
Of all the things to not work properly, MM was probably last on my list to expect, it's knocked my confidence in it a bit, as well as worried me about future upgrades.
If anyone has any ideas over what may be the cause of this, it would be appreciated, I've read lots of blogs, but nothing quite like this has cropped up.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Most of the ISV offerings will allow you to 'Migrate' content from one SP location to another. I'm pretty sure AvePoint and a few others have tools specifically developed for shifting bits and pieces around SharePoint farms.
It is a limitation but the ISV tools tend to do a good job and maintain nearly full consistency.
There's scripts around that can do much/most of the migration and you could always extend them to do the same things as the ISV migration tools however the cost to do so can quickly get to the same ballpark as buying an already made tool.

  • Backup and Restore My Sites

    Hi,
I was hoping for a bit of clarity regarding this topic.
As I understand it, there are two sides of MySites, the Site Collections that are created through self-service site creation for users content, and then service application that provisions the site profiles.
For site profiles, I believe that the Farm Backup and Restore procedure in Central Administration takes care of this, and a backup and restore can be done by selecting the service application in the long list of tick boxes available in the Farm Backup options.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
For the Site Collections, as far as I can tell, you can either back them up individually using the SharePoint native backup tool (not feasible for thousands of site collections), backup the content db using SQL backup, or Powershell. As far as I can tell,
this has the limitation of only allowing you to backup and restore ALL sites collections at once, not individual site collections. Is this correct?
If so, is there a way of backing up the site collections so that an individual site collection can be restored should it be required, without having to painstakingly backup all the site collections individually? I didn't know if there was a script for this
or failing that a 3rd party tool.
Any thoughts and input would be much appreciated.

Re: SQL backups, yes. When you attach the content database it attaches all the site collections in the database.
There is no out of the box method to restore individual site collections unless you perform individual site collection backups. You can automate this with PowerShell.
    Something like this would work:
    $mysites = Get-SPSite -Webapplication "My Sites"
    $Path = "\\path\to\place\backups\"
    foreach ($site in $mysite) {
    $filename = $($site.ServerRelativeUrl -replace "/", "_") + ".bak"
    Backup-SPSite -Identity $site -Path $($Path + $filename)
This creates a site collection backup of every site collection in the My Sites Webapplication (you could customize this as necessary for your environment). Note that it replaces forward slashes ("/") in the site collection URL with underscores
("_") as you can't have the slashes in a filename.
This is a quick and dirty script as well. You'd probably want to add outputs or set the site locks, or whatever.
Alternatively, most third-party SharePoint backup solutions offer more granulated restore options -- with a single backup you can restore everything that an OOB backup would contain, plus you can get lower within the content -- so site collections, sites,
    lists, libraries, items, documents.

  • How to properly get folders, files into Dreamweaver Defined Site Folder from desktop

I, obviously am a new Dreamweaver user, and I need to know
the proper way of going about getting a folder, files, ect. from my
hard drive into my Dreamweaver defined site folder. I understand
how to insert an image from my hard drive into DW and it shows up
in my site folder in the Files Panel. More specifically, using
Lightbox2, after downloading Lightbox and placing those elements in
a new folder on my hard drive, what is the proper way to get that
    folder into my site folder?
Also, how can I properly add images to an images folder in my
site folder in DW for possible later use, without inserting them on
the page. I know by inserting them on the page from a folder on my
hard drive, Dreamweaver prompts me for DW to recognize them. I
would like to know how I can get them in there and DW to recognize
them without actually inserting them on my page.
And can and how can I move files, images, pages from one site
to another? or should I? Thanks, if anyone can help me with these
    file moving questions.

To restate courtney's explanation, *anything* that you paste
    into the site's
local root folder will appear in DW's File panel, and will be
    considered by
DW to be a part of the site.

  • User Profile Lost - Any Way to Recover Defined Sites

I turned on my PC yesterday to discover that my windows XP
profile was corrupted and had to create a new one.
As a reult my user NTUSER.DAT file is now lost which holds
    many of my PC settings.
Ive just booted up Dreamweaver and to my horror, all my
defined sites (about 40) have vanished !
I ve just realised theres an inport and export sites option
in the define sites menu which I presume is for saving this info.
If I hadnt previously exported and saved this info, Is there
any way to recover it from a previous PC archive - I.e where would
such files be saved outsude of my NTUSER.DAT file.
    Thanks
    John

The site definitions are stored in the Windows Registry. If
    you have never
exported them, then I don't know if you'll be able to find
    them in the
Registry, but that's the first place I would look. Be
    careful!

  • Defined sites in CS3 wiped out - help restore

I opened Dreamweaver CS3 and all of my sites in the "manage

  • Template changes will not propogate out to the child web pages in the defined site.

I have a user in my organization who regularly makes changes to a dreamweawer template in order to universally change content on pages that are internal to her office.  The site that serves her office has been defined in dreamweaver (we're running dreamweaver CS4).  Normally, after saving the template changes on her way out of the dw session, she would be asked whether or not she wanted to propagate her template changes out to all of the child web pages (.htmls) in her site.  This has stopped happening and sure enough she can see that the change doesn't exist on the child pages.  Does anyone know why this might have happened, how to restore that prompt for propagation or, most importantly, how she can get those changes propagated to the child pages?

That may be an eventuality, particularly assuming I'm never able to work on this fulltime...which is likely. =)  Anyway, thanks so much for the link.  We'll try this again.  Hopefully, you'll be able to read it.  Even if it's clear, it may still just be clearly ugly, but please let me know what you think.  Thanks!:

  • Upgrade to CC restore DW sites

    Greetings!
OK, Mr. Bonehaed here, I cleared out all my CS5 installations before upgrading to CC, and now I have no sites in my DW...
BUT! I did back them up...
Is there a way to restore all my sites from files in preferences, or anywhere else?
Please help... I got quite a batch, and the long way will take long time...
    Thanks!

You should have exported all your site definition settings (.ste files) prior to removing CS5.
If you have them saved somewhere, you can import those settings into your new DW.  If you don't have them saved somewhere, you'll need to manually define each site.
    Nancy O.

  • Restored SP2010 site "broken" in an odd way - home.aspx is not accessible, but default.aspx is.

So we are testing out a 3rd party backup and recovery tool. The testing for individual pages and list items went pretty well. However, we are seeing really odd behavior when attempting to recover the sites. Obviously we will be working with the vendor on
the issue from their side of things.
I just don't know if there is something that we might have configured oddly that might be contributing to the issue.
I created a from scratch test site using the team template on our SP 2010 service pack 2 farm.
We have an F5 load balancer handing traffic off two 2 web front end servers, with two application servers behind the scenes along with a sql server.
The product backed up the content, then I deleted the site so that we could test the restore ability.
There are a number of problems that we see right off the bat when trying to recover a site.
    1. The Site Pages/Home.aspx appears to have a problem - attempting to access it creates an error page that the ULS describes as:

    2. What we did find was a
http://myfarm/sites/IT/d27/col/SecondTestSite/default.aspx page that displayed what SitePages/Home.aspx used to be.
However, that page is not marked as the home page. I know I can mark that page as the home page to get around the problem - but why would the original page not load any longer? I tried going into the Site Pages library and the how to use the featurees page
still works okay - just not the home page.
I also am finding that the them of the site was lost, a workflow attached to a list was lost - I don't just mean one instance of the workflow; the list no longer has a workflow attached to it. Also the default view of a calendar part on the front page was
    lost.
Is this common for SharePoint site recoveries - to lose various fundamental settings?
I am just wondering whether this sounds like something site specific or if it sounds like every other recovery out there.
    Thank you

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you used a 3rd party backup and recovery tool.
I recommend to use Backup-SPSite and Restore-SPSite command to see if the issue still occurs.
If not, then the error should be regarding to the 3rd party tool, you need to get help from the experts who are professional at the 3rd party tool.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Trying to restore my site in dreamweaver on new mac and having major issues

    Please Help
My previous Mac crashed and i lost everything. I did have a backup drive. So on my new Mac i started dreamweaver and copied my website files to it. It recognizes the site however no images are showing up on my pages in dreamweaver. They also do not exist when i preview in browser? It also looks like my external style sheet is not showing as well??
unfortunately because my old mac crashed unexpectedly i was never able to "export" my website. I am just copying the files. Server connection is fine. all files are showing in the file tab.
    any help would be great
    Dreamweaver CS5
    thanks

See screenshot.  If your site is properly defined in DW, links to images should not break.  Your server's root directory should be public_html.  That folder should NOT appear in your local Files Panel.

  • Correctly defining site in Dreamweaver to accomodate Contribute

I am getting ready to set up a new Dreamweaver site to work
with Contribute and am hoping to avoid the problem I have with my
current site. Right now, the site definition points to an
"off-line" copy of the site on a local network drive. I make all
page changes, template changes, etc. within that site. When I'm
ready to make the changes live, I tend to use Windows Explorer and
just copy from the site to the live server (I know that I could
just check 'automatically upload files to server on save" and avoid
this step ). However, Contribute is set up to connect directly to
the live site. It seems that was the only way to do it - otherwise
even when I (as Contribute Adminstrator) click "publish" for a
draft, it would only be published to the off-line site - and I
would still have to copy to the live server. But with the current
    set-up, there's a version mis-match as soon as I publish a
Contribute file, unless I immediately go and copy the updated page
from the live server back to the off-line site and that means that
some site changes will copy an old "off-line" version of a page
over a new, edited Contribute page.
How do I set up a site to ensure that I can still have an
off-line "work" environment, and yet not have to worry about
Contribute-edited pages? I do understand that I can define the site
as the "live" site - but then if I make site wide changes that
don't work, and blow something up - I don't have that back-up. It
just makes me nervous to work with the live files.
I've read (and am still reading) everything I can find about
setting up a site, and setting up a site to work with Contribute,
but this is still confusing me.
    thanks for any help.

    Have you ever used Dreamweaver?
How good are you with HTML and CSS code?
Go to Site > New Site and tell DW where on your hard drive you wish to keep your local site folder.
Enter your remote server FTP credentials.
From the Files Panel, Click on the Down Arrow to GET files from your remote web server.

  • Restoring iweb site from idisk

My hard drive from a Mac with OS 10.4.11 recently died a painful death and was unrecoverable. My files were unfortunately not backed up as they should have been (lesson learned). I have a new Mac and am trying to be able to access my iweb site without having to start over again. All of the files are accessible via idisk, but is there a way to restore them so that I can actually make edits in iweb?
    thanks!
