Restoring deleted iCal calendars and reading iCal log?

Hello,
I am running OS X Server 10.6.8, and one of the features I have enabled is iCal.  Several people at our office have access to this Caldav account (just one account signed in on multiple machines/calendars).  Over the weekend something (or someone) happened and now all but 1 of the calendars are gone!  So I have a few questions, and I'm hoping someone can help answer them...
1. If a user deletes calendars, are they actually gone?  Do they remove themselves from the server/user machines, or is the information still there just not being displayed?
2. Can I restore the calendars from a Time Machine backup?  According to this article from Apple, I cannot: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH8417
3. The log has been running at Debug for a few weeks, so theres a ton of information to sort through.  I have little to no idea of what the log is saying, I can't really make heads or tails of it.  The only thing I am interested in is the deleted calendars - who, what, when, and where?  Does anybody know how to weed through the logs to find this information?
Please let me know if anyone can offer any help, it would be much appreciated.  If you need more info/system specs please let me know.  Thanks!

In answer to my own question, you can indeed restore the iCal data from Time Machine.  By restoring the entire /Library/CalendarServer folder I was able to re-attained my missing calendars.
But the question of reading the log still irks me - can anyone help me sort through these logs to find exactly when the calendars were deleted?  Any tips for sorting, or keyworks to filter, to help me locate what happend?  Many thanks in advance.

The only way is to login to iCloud with your computer browser and wipe the iPhone.
If you can't then you have a brick, Apple won't help and AL cannot be bypass.

  • How can I restore deleted iCal events without removing current events?

I have just discovered that iCal on my Laptop has been deleting events older than 30 days (as per the default), even though it's supposed to be syncing via MobileMe with my iMac which has this disabled.
I have made backups and exports from iCal in the past. The former, iCal backup files, will apparently overwrite the whole calendar and restore it back to that point in time, which is surely rather useless? If there's a way to use one of these files without deleting new events, then please let me know.
I did import a previous export taken in August 2007, but that still leaves a large gap.
I have also been backing my iMac up in TimeMachine for the past year - is there a way to restore my Calendar this way without reverting new events?

    Hi crcamp1,
If you have multiple backups, your previous backup may still be available.  Details are found in this article.
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes - Apple Support
    Where your backups are stored
The folder where your backup data is stored depends on your computer's operating system. Make sure the backup folder is included in your data-backup routine. iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.
Restoring is further discussed at the bottom of this article.

  • Restoring Deleted User Calendars 10.6.8

We manage several public event calendars in OS X Server 10.6.8 via a single user called "Calendars" that publishes all its public calendars to the server. To facilitate ease of management in users' iCal, I also created a second user - called "Almanac", to whom I have delegated "read only" access to these calendars via iCal's delegation tab in the "Calendars" account. Thus, most users view the calendars by authenticating iCal using the "Almanac" account, while two or three privledged calendar managers view and edit that same data by authenticaing using the "Calendars" account.
This worked flawlessly for years, until recently when for no apparent reason, the "Calendars" account was getting automatically disabled on the Server, causing authentication errors in users' ical and of course presenting event updates. At first I thought the fault lay in my OD policies, which are set to delete accounts after 90 days of inactivity. However, this particular account has been excepted from this policy in Workgroup Manager via the Avanced Tab/Options.
In the past, I've cleared up similar niggling problems by simply deleting and recreating the problematic user account, making sure to use the same short name and then running chown -r on the appropriate user home folder.  I did that with this account, and indeed it is no longer being disabled. However, all of the precious iCal calendar events have disappeared. I can see the calendars themselves when I log into the Calendars user account and start up iCal, but there are no events present. When I try to access the calendars on the server via a privledged or unprivledged user in iCal, I get the message:
"The calendar http://<my.server.FQDN>:8008/principals/__uids__/00C48532-BA77-478C-A4D3-17A848DD9F6D/ was not found on the server. Make sure the URL is correct."
Looking at the Calendar user home folder, it looks like the data is all still there in ~/Library/Calendars. On the server, I also see what appears to be the Calendar Server documents that match the above UID in /Library/CalendarServer/Documents/Calendars/_uids_/...  Of course, I also have multiple backup copies of all of these directories via TimeMachine, SuperDuper! and PresSTORE.
I've already tried rm all the user calendar cache files and resyncing, also tried trashing all the user iCal preferences. Also tried a full restore of the users home folder via TimeMachine and running chown -r again.
    Thoughts anyone? Thanks.

Sorry - I meant chown -R of course.

  • Had to wipe and restore 5S now calendars and reminders are not showing

No calendars or reminder lists are showing on the 5S and can't seem to be able to create one (+ is greyed out) even Fantastical 2 can't create event.  iCloud synch is turned on but nothing.

There are no calendars and reminders mostly because that you had not backed up to iCloud or iTunes before you wiping your iPhone. If you had backed them up to iCloud or iTunes, then after wiping your iPhone, you can restore your iPhone with the backup file.
And you said that you can't even create event, I can see that the iOS version 7.0.2 on your iPhone is low, to ensure your iPhone works properly, you should update the operating system to the latest version.

  • TS4605 restore deleted icloud calendar

I was on my laptop and accidentally deleted my main icloud calendar (which synchs across my iphone and ipad)
I took my calendar on my laptop off-line, and then I grabbed my iphone and restored it from the latest icloud backup (which was 10pm last night - so I'd only lose any calendar changes I made in the last day).
The restore worked, but my main icloud calendar (and all of the data) are still missing?!
Help! I can't make it to the Genius bar for 2 days and I need my calendar now! I am lost without it.
I don't care what device the calendar gets put back on - I just need it on at least one!
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!

The backup to iCloud is done only if you have set it up.

  • Restore deleted iCal To Do Item

Ok, so I have deleted a To Do Item, by mistake. I have also deleted some To Do Items on purpose.
Can I use Time Machine to go back, find the incorrectly deleted item, and restore it? Or do I have to restore all of the To Do Items.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Here's what I'm finding.
    I go to user/library/calendar.
I open the nonsense folders until I find a recent plist file.
Then I open the accomanying Events folder.
I sort by date and proceed to use quicklook to see that is in each file.
When I located the file with my edited item, I copy the name and then use Time Machine to find a file by this name (copy to search).
When I quicklook this file, I don't see the data I lost under Notes, but presume maybe this will appear in iCal when restored.
    Select Restore.
    That doesn't work.
I'm guessing I've simply restored the altered event file.
Since I don't know when I would have last edited this event/to do, how can I find the previous version? the nonsense names make a manual search impossible.
There must be a better way?

  • TS3999 Deleted my calendar and need to restore it.....can I do this?

I accidently deleted my entire calendar entries and need to know if I can restore it myself?  I run by entire business  by this calendar so I need immediate help!  Thank you!
    Cindy

If you sync your iPad with a computer, then the calendars should be there (assuming you sync the events with iTunes).
If you back up to iCloud, then the only way of getting it back is to reset the iPad, which means wiping everything on it and then performing a restore from iCloud.  You can't just restore some data from iCloud, it's all or nothing.  But before performing a reset (Settings>General, scroll to bottom of page, reset), I'd make absolutely sure there's a backup somewhere.  Yesterday I "gave up" my iPad 1 and migrated to an iPad 2.  I've read of some problems people have trying to do a restore from iCloud, so I used iTunes and set the iPad 1 to perform backups using iTunes and not iCloud.  Then I did a backup.  With the iPad 2 (it was reset, wiped), I connected to iTunes and did a restore using the iPad 1 name.  All worked.  So, if you have an iTunes backup of the device, then use it to perform a restore.  I assume the backup is relatively "fresh".

  • HT204150 I mistakenly deleted my calendar and my shared calendars from my I pad. Is there any way to bring the data back

I mistakenly deleted all y calendar entries. And shared calendar eateries.  How can I get this data back onto my iPad

If you've been making backups to icloud, then you should perform a restore to the ipad, unless you had the data on a computer, in which case you could try to restore the calendar file from a backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your phone.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your phone is new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • Restoring Deleted Cloud Service and its Deployments

    Hi Everyone -
Is it possible to restore a cloud service together with all its deployments?
I accidentally deleted one of our environment and I was just wondering if it is possible to restore it.
    Appreciate anyone's help.
    Thanks
    Frankie

    Hi Frankie,
How did your delete the environment? If it is a VM and you choose the "keep the attached disks", then the disks on the VM would be kept on the storage account and you can use the disk to recreate a new VM. However, the data on the D:(temporary
    driver) would be lost.
In addition, if you delete the cloud service, which option did you select? If you choose "Delete the cloud service and its deployments", then all the virtual machines will be deleted, along with the attached disks, their associated
VHD files, DNS name and VIP. In these scenario, it is impossible to restore them.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Restore deleted ICloud Calendar (NO backup!)

I accidentally deleted my ICloud calendar (IPhone on in my pocket!).  I do not have a Time Machine backup (I know, I know).  Am running OS 10.7.4 on an IMac, IBook and an IPhone.  Most recent .icbu file is from 01.2012 so not a perfect restore option.  Is there a backup on the ICloud?  Somewhere else?

The backup to iCloud is done only if you have set it up.

  • Can't delete/update calendar and to-do items

    Hi,
I am trying to use my phone with my Outlook calendar, but PC Sync does not seem to work properly when I delete or change a calendar or a to-do item - either on the phone or in Outlook.
If I try to delete an item on either side, it gets re-created at the next sync. If I change the name, I get a duplicate on both ends - one with the old name, one with the the new one. If I modify another property - e.g. recurrence - on either side, it gets reverted to the old value - whichever side I change it on!
This happens even with default PC Sync settings...
    My versions:
    PC Suite: 7.1.18.0
    Phone: 3120 Classic, FW 10.0
    OS: Windows XP SP2
Connection: Bluetooth or USB cable, the behaviour is the same.
Thanks for any help on this!

    More on this:
    - The problem is exactly the same with PC Suite 7.1.30.9
    - My Outlook version is XP (2002), SP 3.
    Thanks for any input...

  • I keep getting the same emails twice, after I've deleted from device and read on desktop!

While at work, I usually read my email on my computer, but I still get them on my BB, which I delete right away. However, even after it's already been read on my computer and deleted from my Curve, I end up with another alert for the same email, and the email as unread in my Curve inbox.
How can I make that STOP? I don't need to be told more than once that I have a new email, and even less so if I've already read it!

is the email imap, pop, owa/exchange?
do you have redirector installed (in DTM is there an email settings icon)
    who is your carrier?

After you restore you will have the option to restore from your most current iCloud or iTunes backup.
