Restoring eMail messages using Time Machine?

My lady uses MS Office for the Mac and accidentally deleted email messages can these messages be restored using Time Machine?

My Outlook 2011 shows no messages which started right after I ran SyncMate. I decided to restore my system using Time Machine, but that did not make Outlook show my emails. Outlook indicates that I have several messages, but none appear. Suggestions please.

Apologies for not replying back sooner - I've been away.
Although your suggestion helped me in getting a copy of Lion that I could use, it didn't help with the restore from Time Capsule issue. I had to download the Lion app onto my MacBook & then transfer it across but it wouldn't let me upgrade my OS for some reason, so I ended up wiping the iMac completely and restoring via my Snow Leopard install disk. For some reason, this time, it let me have the option of using Setup Assistant to access the Time Capsule for a complete restore.
Now, over a week later, with various bits of tweaking and reinstalling some apps that didn't seem to come across, I have my system back.

I need to restore my email settings using time machine but can't find the mail.plist in the backups

Hi, i can find my mail.plist by opening library/preferences holding the option key, but I can't replicate this when i'm searching for the same file in time machine. I have somehow deleted my mail settings and am trying to restore using time machine. Any ideas? Thanks

In Finder under Library/Preferences/ i found the following which I think is what you are looking for:
I "highlighted" this file in Finder FIRST, and then leaving Finder Open, I also opened Time Machine and when TM opened, Finder was displayed in it as seen above and I could then select dates going back to Restore this file from just fine.

I've just backed everything up to an external hard disk using Time Machine, but when I explore the external disk, I can't find my email messages. Any suggestions as to where they might be?

Hold Option and Use the “Go” Menu to Show Library
Holding down the Option key will show the “Library” directory as an option in the Finders Go menu. The other nice thing about the Go menu is that after you have accessed ~/Library on multiple occasions, it will start to appear in the “Recent Folders” submenu for easy repeat access.

Can't restore Junk Mail using Time Machine

As I was executing the command "delete junk mail" I noticed some files in there that I never saw, and then they disappeared. I tried restoring them using Time Machine but the Junk Mail folder is greyed out. All the other folders are recoverable, but not Junk. Can anybody help?

I see the same thing - junk mailboxes are grayed out in TM. However, the actual mailbox folders in finder are backed up. in finder go to homedirectory/library/mail and look for junk mailbox folders inside your account folders. start TM while in there and recover the messages you need.

I am using time machine and need to restore my hard drive from a time machine back up. I have messed up the drive by draging things over.

Restoring Safari Windows Using Time Machine?

I had a number of windows open in Safari for a research project. While traveling, I accidentally let my machine run its battery down and had to restart. I restarted in a hotel with an annoying internet login splash page so when Safari opened, all of my browser windows re-directed to the hotel splash page. On some tabs, I could navigate back to the page I'd had open but others were lost.
I'd like to restore the session I had open before my trip using Time Machine. I closed Safari, went to Library/Safari/LastSession.plist in Time Machine and restored the file from an earlier version. But when I opened Safari back up, my pre-trip session did not open. Instead, the session from right before I closed and restored opened. I tried restoring the entire Library/Safari folder, but still the same thing!
Though a relatively minor problem I had some important research articles open that will be a pain for me to find again.
Also, I can't understand what's going wrong. From everything else I've read, restoring the LastSession file should do the trick.
Any thoughts on where I might be going wrong / how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

I have restored the same file (~/Library/Safari/LastSession.plist) from a Time Machine Backup. Then I restarted Safari and selected "Reopen All Windows from Last Session" from the History menu. That worked for me. I'm running Safari v6.0.5.
Does anyone know what the SessionState key is for that this file lists for each tab?
LastSession.plist lists for each previously open tab:

How do I restore emails from my Time Machine?

In restoring my wifes email account on her Mac Book Pro, she has lost the emails that were in her in box. How do I restore those emails from my Time Machine backups?

Open Mail and select the Inbox
Click the Time Machine clock icon at the top of the screen and then click Enter Time Machine
Select a recent date when the Inbox was intact from the timeline on the right of the window
Click Restore

I cannot restore my backups using Time Machine - please help!

My iMac has been returned from repair and as part of this was reset to its factory settings, depeting everything. I took backups using Time Machine to an external hard drive before it went off for repair, and after it came back I restored the data - so I thought. It seemed to work for a long time, but on completion no files had been restored, and all the backups from before the iMac went for repair are now inaccessible in Time Machine. However as far as I can see they are still on the hard drive however.
The iMac has since been backing up the now empty machine to this hard drive, over-writing the data, but I have now switched Time Machine off.
How can I restore my back-ups and recover my data please?

I plan on getting a bigger hard drive soon so I just used Time Machine to set up and back up everything to an external hd. If I install a new hard drive will I be able to seamlessly restore off of that external hard drive?

Sort of. You will need to install the new drive and prep it:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Then begin installing OS X. You will have the option to restore the system from a TM backup.

Restore external HDD using Time Machine

Hello Apple users,
First let me explain my time machine set up so that you guys will be able to help me out. I've 2 external USB hard drives: one is 1TB and the other is 500GB. In the 500 GB USB HDD I store my main Aperture 3 library and other things like music, movies etc., and I use the other external hard drive to backup my files using Time Machine.
So after, I've backed-up my external hard drive as well as my mac using Time Machine, I can't access my backups in my external hard drive without connecting the 500GB hard drive. What I mean to say is that, when I enter Time Machine without connecting my 500 GB USB hard drive, I'm unable to see the files that are saved in the backup. Does that mean if my 500 GB hard drive goes kaput, I won't be able to restore those?
When I do connect the 500 GB hard drive, I can see the files that are stored there and the changes that took place using Time Machine.

I used Time Machine to back up everything on my hard drive.
I went to the Apple Store, with a question about iWeb.
The guy moved a bunch of stuff around, and "tried" a bunch of stuff.
When he exited out of iWeb, he automatically clicked SAVE.
I want what it looked like Before he touched it.
With every other application, you just need to open the app, then click Time Machine, and it will search for the Backed Up Versions.
Time Machine does not do this with iWeb!
When I search for an "iWeb" folder, I CAN NOT.
I can only search for FILES with the word iWeb. Why?
I know there is a folder called iWeb under Library/App Support/
but that is the Domain.
How do I get my old files back?

You were on the right track.
The domain-file in Library/Application Support/iWeb is the file you need to put back with Time Machine.

I'm attempting to recover email accounts that were lost in a clean install. I have opened mail, launched time machine and accessed the latest backup. I selected restore. It appears that all of the archived mail on my mac was recovered, but not the accounts (there are three.) Do I have to recreate the accounts manually or is there a way to restore them?

Restoring in Lion, using Time Machine saved in Snow

I just replaced my HD and am in the process of reinstalling numerous items. I now have Lion, but prior to replacing the HD, I had Snow. I simply imported my vcard into address book, but it combined all the groups. I must have them separated, and there are over a 1,000.
I'd like to do it the easy way: open address book, open time machine, choose last address book back up and voila! Um yeah, apparently you can't since I'm now running Lion.
I do still have the vcard on one of my many hard drives.
I need assistance w/getting the music in iTunes as well.

iTunes is easy, just remove the originals out of your iTunes Library, diddo for iPhoto Library by right clicking on it and "show package contents", re-import into Snow iTunes and iPhoto.
Thing is not to use TimeMachine. Apple doesn't expect you to "go back" and naturally places blocks in the way as it moves forward improving it's bundled programs, so avoiding TimeMachine and transfering manually or via cloning methods.
Now if you have extensive playlists, it might be easier to do this:
If you back on Snow, clone it and disconnect.
Then downgrade to Lion again by hold option clicking on Purchases in AppStore
Once back in iTunes Lion, choose View > Show Groupings.
Tag your music with the Groupings, it's a tag on the song itself, instead of being a iTunes Library playlist.
When your done importing the music back into Snow iTunes, use the Grouping tags in your Smart Playlist criteria.
Now boot off the Snow Clone and erase media, reverse clone. Carbon Copy Cloner or Superdupes.
Also while you got Lion, make bootable DVD's/USB from the Lion installer before installing Lion

How do I perform a complete restore to Mac using Time Machine

I need to restore my MBP (10.8) from Time Machine backup. Problem is, when I attempt to perform a full restore it says the last full backup available is a month ago.
How can I recover all the changes since my last full backup?
I've reestored the last full backup, but I've now "lost" all changes made since the last full backup. I can open Time Machine and view or restore individual files, but that's tedious and error prone (bound to miss a few).
How can I perform a FULL restore. ie. Back to the last backup (the full backup from a month ago), and then recover all changes made up until the last "incremental" backup - which only included the changes?
Alternatively, how can I identify all changes from last FULL backup to the last "incremental".

Insert its first original DVD, restart with the Option key held down, click on it, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a new OS.
