  • HT4946 When I restore my phone from a backup, isnt it suppose to give me all my apps back as well??

When I restore my phone from a backup, isn't it suppose to give me back all my apps as well?

No it is not, a back up holds App Data but not the app itself
Apps are transfereed to iTunes by a method called "Transfer purchases" aswel as all purchases from the itunes or app store on the device.
If the apps are on iTunes you need to sync them back to the iPhone.
If the apps are not on iTunes on your pc/mac make sure you are signed into the correct Apple ID then go to App Store>Updates>Purchases here it will show you a list of the apps you have downloaded/purchased with that Apple ID. To download them simply click the cloud button with the arrow in the middle to the right of the app.

  • HT201269 I appear to have a software problem and I cant turn off "find my iPhone" in the settings.  I therefore cannot restore the phone from the backup on my computer.  Any ideas or will have to send the phone back to Apple??

My iPhone 5s has stopped accessing wifi. I would like to restore the phone but it will not allow me to turn off "find my iPhone" in the settings tab since I cannot get to the net.  Is there any other way to turn off "find my iPhone"

  • How do I restore my phone from a backup on a hard drive?

I just bought a new iPhone and my computer which had the back up from my old phone broke. I have the hard drive from my computer inside another computer. How do I access my old phones backup from the hard drive, through iTunes and onto my new phone?
NOTE: it's not an external hard drive, it is a PC hard drive that I installed into another PC to access it.

    Hi
This may help it explains where backups are stored on your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Some people have said that they cannot access it directly because of it's format. However, there are programs that will allow you to see and extract data from the backup, a google search for iphone backup extractor might help you out here.
    Hope this helps

  • Can't restore new phone from a backup

I went to the Apple store today and had my iPhone 4 replaced under warranty because the sleep button was stuck. The guy told me to come home, plug it into iTunes and choose the restore from previous phone backup option. I did that and halfway through it stopped, and gave me an error. I had no other option but to click "Ok" and next thing I know it went to the page where you sync it and it already put the phone under my name. Now I can't get back to the screen where you restore from a backup! I went into device preferences and the backup from Sunday night from my old phone is still there, but I have no idea how to restore it to my new phone. I really want my pictures back into my camera roll, contacts, texts, and all that back! Does anyone know how to get back to that screen where you choose to restore?
    Thank you!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago.  I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago;  but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that.  With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
    Best,
    Craig

  • HT2623 I have upgraded my Iphone operating system using IO6. Before doing this operation I have backed up the phone and I cannot restore my phone from the backup since it simply does not accept my password.

I have upgraded my iPhone using IO6. Before doing this operation the advises to me is to back up the phone, which I did using iCloud.
When I tried to restore the back it does not access my password which I have given to restore my password.

if you cant remember the password of your back-up encryption, you can't back it up
You will have to restore as a new phone

  • What content will I loose if I restore my phone from backup?

I need to restore my iPhone4S from a backup, but I am scared that I will loose photos and videos.
Is it guarenteed that everything will be brought back?

If you restore from backup, ALL data, currently on your phone, will be erased. If you have any data that you want to save...pics, etc.,...you need to first import to your computer.

  • Restored phone from old backup have i lost my new photos?

I was given a replacement iphone 4 because mine was stolen. After using the phone for a couple of weeks - and taking lots of photos on it - I plugged in my phone to my macbook in order to back up the new photos I had taken on the phone. While I was on itunes I was asked if I wanted to restore my old phone settings and install new software, and i said yes. It asked me if i wanted to carry on with this while the phone was synching with the computer and i said yes.
But then I saw photos from my OLD phone on my phone and also loading onto iphoto, with the computer asking if I wanted to download them.
I then couldn't find my NEW photos on my phone or on iphoto.
Have I lost the new photos?
I went into 'finder' on my computer, found 'backup; and can see hundreds of files, with the time that I was restoring my phone at same time as i was installing new software -
Are these files my new photos?
And how can i open them?
    Thank you!

yes, you have.  Restoring your phone from the other backup wiped out any previous data you had on your phone.  Since you never backed up before, there's no way to get any of those data back.

  • I have to restore my phone from back up but in order to do it i had to update my software. now that my software is updated there isnt enough room on the phone to back up. is there a way to only restore certain things from the backup like contacts?

Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

  • My dad and i have the same icloud id,when i updated the software (to ios 8.1.3) i have my dad´s photos on my iphone. And want my photos back (i tried restoring my phone from the last backup) but still have my dad´s photos on my device.

My dad and i,have the same icloud id,when i updated the software (to ios 8.1.3) i have my dad´s photos on my iphone. And want my photos back (i tried by restoring my phone from my last backup)but still have my dad´s photos in my device

And that's exactly the problem, because everyone should have their own account for iCloud. You can share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store purchases, but you shouldn't do that for iCloud (Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. ... ...and Photos). The problem of using the same account together could mean that only your dad's photos were stored.

  • I deleted an app by mistake. when I tried to restore my phone from my icloud backup it wasn't there.  I need an older backup. How long are they kept?? Thank you

I delted an app by mistake.  when i tried to restore my phone from icloud I need an older backup. How long are they kept?? I'd like to get this app and it's contents back.
    thanks

Apple states that it keeps your last 3 iCloud backups, which would only go back a few days if you back up daily.  Also, apps are not stored in the backup, only your app data is.  The backup simply notes which apps were on your phone when it was backed up, then downloads them from the App store when you restore the backup.  If the app is no longer available in the App store, it will not be restored to the phone when you restore the backup.

  • HT1766 i had to upgrade my software on my I phone and once completed, my phone was wiped out, it tried to restore my info from my backup but now its asking for a password.  I've tried every password I've ever had, but nothing is working?

Where would i find out what the password was set to?

Your backup became encrypted.  Keep trying various passwords but unless you successfully enter the correct password, you will not be able to restore your phone from that backup
