Restoring Internet Connect settings

How do you restore the Internet Connect settings from backup? I have a new installation and I copied everything over but when I open Internet Connect it doens't show any of my dialups. The usernames and passwords and phone numbers are in the keychain.
Is there any way I can avoid having to reset all this manually?
thanks.

Marlinespike:
Glad you got it resolved. I saw your question, but I had a very busy weekend and hardly got near a computer.

You can install Java from here: http://www.java.com/en/<br><br>
You also need to update your Flash installation since the one you have at the moment exposes your system to attack. It's a similar story for Adobe Reader.

  • Internet Connection Settings Inconsistencies

    Hello,
I have a scenario where a small group of Windows 7 Pro computers are going to be used to administer an exam. The exam will be done in MS Word and the students
will be permitted online access to a few sites for research. In addition to their being a proctor in the room, the web-sites that the students will be allowed to visit must be metered. The easiest and cheapest way I have found to do this is to use Windows
7's built-in Internet Connection settings, much in the same way the settings for IE can be controlled, but for all of the browsers on the operating system. I set a proxy to a bogus address and allow exceptions for sites on a per address basis. A GPO prevents
users from changing proxy settings after they are logged in to Windows.
The problem is that the allow list for web-sites does not perform consistently. Allowing *.abc.com or just abc.com has the differing effects. Also not all of the
sites work on all of the computers. Abc.com will work on one machine but not another even though they are cloned from the same Windows image and are using the same proxy settings. A GPO is not used to distribute the proxy settings. I couldn't find where to
do that in group policy. Also, going to www.abc.com will work for a site but the entry
of just abc.com will not, though it is entered that way in the proxy list. Windows clearly states that entering just abc.com for a site will cover all domains going up and down, but it doesn't in practice. This is very frustrating. Has anyone had to do something
like this in the past or have a way to make Windows behave consistently?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please have a share with the IE version?
We should make sure the GPO works on the Internet Explorer version on all Windows 7 machines.
In addition, regarding proxy bypass list, we may check this article:
Using Proxy Selection and Proxy Bypass Lists
Here is another thread for reference: Internet Explorer exception for proxy

  • Internet connection settings

    Hi,
I recently went on holiday to China for a week and during that period I used airport wifi connections and the broadband connection in my hotel room, but since my return home my dial up connection has been giving me problems. When I go into Systems Preferences and the Network setting and try to change them I get a drop window that informs me that 'Your network settings have been changed by another application' which I can't get rid of. When I press OK it simply returns. I have to use force quit to escape and I can't change the settings. Any suggestions?

I had partial success with your last suggestion in that the pane that dropped down to tell me about my settings being set by another application stop doing so which allowed me to put in the details about using an external modem, etc. Then I locked it,- but when I use the Internet Connect in my dock, it dials okay but the authentication always fails and I have to go through the Network/Configuration to access the internet. ( The 'assist' doesn't seem to be active anymore) Also, all the details on the PPPoE page have gone and the screen isn't active to allow me to insert them. And could you tell me if it's correct for the NETCfG tool box to appear on the lock when it asks me about using the password...Deny/Once/Always use ? I'm always suspicious when I see those little 'exec' boxes appear.
Could the fact that I downloaded the Frostwire sharefiles application just prior to going on holiday have anything to do with my problem?
Thanks for your continued interest. Much appreciated.

  • 700w internet connection settings?

Just subscribed to Page Plus for my 700w Verizon phone. Initially it worked great until I updated to the latest 1.22 version. Now I can't connect to the internet and the pop up window says I need to change settings. I've tried over and over and can't seem to find the right settings it wants. Did upgrading to 1.22 cause some kind of settings change that impacts the internet connectivity? The only thing I can "see" that's changed is that it added the "wireless manager" feature, but that shouldn't have had any effect on the ability to connect right? Suggestions please.

  • FF will not hold internet connection settings when closed

Since upgrading to FF4 and subsequently to FF5:
Each day, after booting my system and starting FF, I have to go i nto preferences to reset the internet connection to 'no proxy'. FF defaults to a manual proxy config when closed. The network connection setting of 'no proxy' just won't hold when FF closes.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

I have a WRT54GS hard wired into my computer, with another computer that is wireless and I probably lose my internet connection 2 to 3 times a day and I have to go through either rebooting my computer completely or go through the process of unhooking the modem for 10 seconds and the router for 1 minute, etc.
Any suggestions?  It gets old after a while.

  • Where does Internet Connect store its info?

I've managed to mess up my Internet Connect settings (which used to work fine, with VPNs etc. etc.). Fortunately I have a complete mirror backup of my disk from before this problem. I don't want to do a full restore; does anyone know if there's a file that stores the Internet Connect preferences and settings that I can just copy over?
    Mike

This sounds like a job for ~/Library/Preferences. And indeed, I have some files there with likely looking names, such as,
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
I don't know if these are the ones you need to recover. You could check there modified dates using Get Info; if the date(s) are about when you messed things up that would suggest maybe they are.

  • ISP Failed, Internet Connection Intermittent

For a long time, my internet connection has gone through phases in which pages, images, videos, etc. stop loading something like every 1-2 minutes. I have seen gifs start loading incredibly quickly, in real time almost, then stop dead. Refreshing in this case yields an endless period of loading. I am fairly certain that this problem extends to all devices on my wireless network, but I rarely use two computers simultaneously, so I'm not certain of this. The problem is usually present for a few weeks at a time, then is stops happening for a month or two, if I remember correctly.
Whenever pages fail to load, I have found that, by opening Network Diagnostics (System Preferences>Network>Assist me…>Diagnostics…), I can temporarily restore internet connectivity. The Network Diagnostics window usually has orange lights for ISP, Internet, and Server when I first open it, though ISP's light is sometimes red. As I proceed through the program, the lights usually change after I select my network from the list. Network Settings will sometimes turn red, at which time all the lights below it will turn red as well. Whether or not this happens, though, the lights end up as green, and I am told that my internet connection seems to be working correctly. Most of the time, my internet connection will then work for some time (the length of which may vary). I have pored over all of Apple's network troubleshooting articles, none of which have resolved my issue. I have restarted my router and modem in the past, though not recently. I do not believe that the problem lies in either my iMac or wireless router (Time Capsule, 2 terabytes, 4th generation or earlier), as my modem (or possibly cable splitter) seems the liklier culprit, but my landline phone service and cable television service has not seen any service disruptions (all 3 services operate over the same cable, and are provided by the same company).
During a recent interruption of service, I used the ping command in Terminal to try to connect to the 8.8.8.8 server. The full text of the command and its output is as follows:
    Rays-iMac-8:~ lorenzocastoldi$ ping 8.8.8.8

I can't find much on this "sendto: No route to host" message, but the few forum posts I was able to find seemed to be made by users of the Linux operating system, or variants thereof, making me even more certain that the issue is with my modem, cable, or ISP. for ping, in that order. I believe I've heard that the second entry in traceroute, with the three asterisks, is my router. Whenever I run traceroute, entry 2 is always like this, and I think this is the case for other people as well. This would mean, if I am not mistaken, that the first IP address, 10.0.1.1, is the weak link. However, I do not know how to proceed from here. When I traceroute other websites, it always appears as IP address number one, and it is contacted before my router, if #2 is in fact my router. I have read that 10.0.1.1 is also a private IP address, though I do not know exactly what that would mean for me. I am tempted to think that this IP address may be my computer itself, but that wouldn't make sense. It may be my router, again, but I do not know this for certain.
Because this is an intermittent problem, it can be difficult to examine it in any detail, but I should be able to answer most questions about it. If anyone has any potential solutions, or even hypotheses as to the nature of the problem, please let me know. I cannot solve this problem on my own.
    tl;dr: What is the 10.0.1.1

I acknowledge that service outages are common, but they shouldn't interfere with my computer's connection to my router, nor should they last for weeks straight or be temporarily resolved by running a diagnostic tool. Plus, my phone and T V would probably go down in that scenario, except for some very special situations. Electromagnetic interference is an explanation I hadn't considered before, but I don't run a cell phone or microwave all day, but only every other month. I'll look into it though—maybe I'll see how my computer communicates with my router during an interruption, or see if any large electronics are running at the time. However, my connection's been fine since I started this thread, when I restarted my base stations. Maybe that's all I needed to do after all. A strange issue nonetheless, though.

  • I receive a message that I am unable to connect and check internet connections. I'm able to access thru Explorer. Tried re-downloading Firefox. Thoughts?

Have been using Firefox for a number of years. About two weeks when I attempted to access a bookmark through Mozilla I got an unable to connect. Have tried multiple things including removing and reinstalling several times. Each time I attempt to got to a site I receive a "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.X. I'm offered choices to retry; check network connection or check Firewall or proxy and make sure Firefox is permitted access to the Web.
To the best of my knowledge I made no changes to the access. I am able to reach the internet via internet explorer and can reach the sites that Firefox is denied. I've tried playing with the internet connection settings but to no avail.

I, too, have used Mozilla/Firefox for yrs and like it very much. After some security issues and my security company worked on the issues, Mozilla/Firefox disappeared from my screen. I'm getting the following when I try to download:
    C\user\Lee\App Data\Data\Local\temp
    7zEEEE.temp\set up. exe
    D:users\Lee AppData\Local
    Temp\7zEEEEtemp.\setup.exe
This system could not find the environment option entered.
Might someone be so kind as to help me please?
    Thank you,
    Leeflea.

  • How can I make firefox my internet connection with Outlook Express

My outlook express currently shares my internet connection settings with Internet Explorer. I want it to share with firefox but don't know how to make that happen.

Hi kentbull, this is a little confusing...
You and your wife have separate Windows accounts, or do you share a single Windows account and just have separate email accounts?
Outlook Express -- the stand-alone email program shipped with Windows XP -- doesn't depend on Firefox except if you click a link in a message in OE, it will open in your default browser, which may be Firefox. Really should not be a problem to open/close Outlook Express whether Firefox is open/closed/installed/missing.
If you have switched to Outlook.com, the latest iteration of Hotmail, the situation may be different. If you are sharing a single Windows account, then you most likely are sharing Firefox and Microsoft probably does not let you be in two accounts at the same time in one Firefox session without logging out of one account and then into the other.
