Restoring ios 6.0.1 backup to ios 6.1

So i have a backup saved of my iphone 4 which was running 6.0.1 before selling the phone.
I am now going to get a 4S very soon and if it is running ios 6.1 will I be able to restore the backup?
If not, is there a workaround?
Thanks!

If the message says "This iPhone is currently being restored and will automatically back up when it is done" it means that the phone is waiting to finish restoring before it will back up.  However, I'm not sure you can cancel this without creating other issues.

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

  • How can I restore my iPhone 4's iOS5 backup without restoring iOS if the option to "Restore from Backup" doesn't appear when I right click it in the device list?

(Lengthy question, I know Let me explain.)
A few days ago, I decided to clear out the music on my computer. So, I copied everything out of iTunes to my external hard drive (podcasts, music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps) and deleted all that I could find, including the iTunes folder. I forgot that the iTunes library files were in there, and those went too; unsurprisingly, I was greeted with an empty library when I next opened iTunes.  After adding all my files back from my external hard drive, everything's all good there - no lost files, everything seems fine. However, since my library is a "new" library, iTunes wishes to erase everything on my iPhone 4. Which is also fine, for everything except my apps.  I'd really rather not lose all my application settings and data that are saved in my backup.  But, I cannot just "Restore from Backup" by right-clicking my device in the list in iTunes, so... I haven't synced my iPhone since I did this, so all of my data is still on there, but it's in the backup as well.  If I have to erase all iTunes content, I definitely have to be able to restore the backup over it since I don't want to lose all my settings and Springboard layout.  I'd prefer not to restore iOS because I don't want to go from iOS5 to 5.0.1, nor do I have 8 hours to download the IPSW file on my super-speedy internet connection   Any guidance on restoring my iPhone from its backup?

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

  • HT4972 After upgrading iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1 getting the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored" HELP!

I attempted to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1. I selected 'back up' from the phone in the device menu and iTunes confirmed that the phone had been backed up. I then installed iOS 5.1.1 which wiped everything on the phone & now I am getting the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored".
I have tried restoring factory settings but iTunes simply will not restore from back up & I'm not sure what else to do!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have the same issue and I KNOW my backup IS good. What happen is when you try to restore your phone apple says something like can I check for new updates and if you choose no, it just takes you back to the restore screen and a loop from then on.  If you dont update from you phone then when you back up you will have the 5.0.1 back up and then when you update to 5.1.1 and then try to restore the backup from 5.0.1 it say it EITHER corrupt or incompatible.. It is incompatible and its hard as **** to restore back to 5.0.1. I followed the restore to a T and still getting errors. I lost all text history and have to reset up email. All just because I wanted a 1.2 Gigs of "other" space back.

  • ITunes can not restore iOS 5.1.1 backup on iOS 6.0 with iPhone 4S

I have created two backups of my iPhone 4S under iOS 5.1.1 befor upgrading to iOS6.0. The upgrade with iTunes 10.7 gave a dozen error messages but eventually iOS 6.0 was installed. But all SMS Messages are gone, all apps and their data, ...
I tried a restore (synch) of the two backups. None complets. The one just hangs before completion forever. The other one report close to completion "because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored".
I have saved both backups, tried with another Windows PC and iTunes there (transfeeered the backup files) with the same problem.
Also the Windows PC becomes unstable after the iTunes restore. It reports "low on memory resources" (I habe GBs) and applications wont start. I have to reboot to get a stable system again. iTunes behaves like a virus.

  • I restored my iPhone 3GS without backup I lost everything that I had on iOS photos, contacts and messages. All I have are the apps and files I had before I upgraded to iOS. Is it possible to get back all that I have lost?

Hi all, I restored my iPhone 3GS without backup and it took all recent messages, contacts, photos and videos. All I am left with is the content I had before I upgraded to iOS. Can these lost files be retrieved? Please help.

Look... I don't have my crystal ball handy. I don't know how or if you had your backup set up. You don't adequately describe what you're missing. Stating that "All I am left with is the content I had before I upgraded to iOS" doesn't tell me anything at all... When did you upgrade? Apparently, you had a backup from that time, and when you restored, you restored from that backup. If you had no other backups in between then and now, then anything since that time is gone. Permanently.

  • Error (3) in iTunes. iPhone 4S cannot be restored [iOS 7] Please Help.

It all started a couple of days ago. My phone was already on iOS 7 only, as in 7.0. I kept checking for software updats. Your phone is on the latest version it told me. No it wasn't. I wanted to upgrade to 7.0.2. but it wasn't showing that I need an upgrade (on the phone itself or in iTunes) thus, I couldn't update. This is when I INTIALLY RESTORED my phone.
    1st:
Restored my phone. Finally updated to  7.0.2. but it COULD NOT pass the activation screen when setting it up as a new phone.
    2nd:
I did a full restore again - not from a backup and somehow got my phone completely back to the way it was before I started ANY of this process only difference was I was FINALLY on 7.0.2. like I wanted. Great, just what I wanted. My phone worked fine I was able to recieve / make calls, texts, etc. I was connected to my (Sprint) network and it was all normal...until the next day.
    3rd:
My phone lost signal (so I thought). All it said was "Searching..." and contacted Sprint. They tried to fix the issue but couldn't. After a long while the Sprint Rep reccomended that I should restore my phone again. He told me to do it from my phone "Erase all data or whatever" but of course I didn't listen, not to be defiant but I didn't know how much to trust the phone vs the computer backup...BIG mistake. I figured I should backup my phone from my computer so I attempted to restore my phone through computer / iTunes anyways.
NOW my phone will not restore no matter how hard I try.
I tried DFU mode and restore it. I erased and updated the hosts file via the users> windows>system32>etc>hosts. NOTHING is working.
I'm stuck in recovery mode with the plug into itunes symbol.
Every time I do attempt to restore hoping MAYBE this time might be different the restore progress bar goes all the way full nearly...with the tinest sliver almost not even visible left that won't be completed when iTunes then pops up with the error message.
I used to get error message 3194 but now I'm just getting error message 3.
*ABOVE ALL I want to be able to access into my phone again but **KEEP IN MIND** somehow, as I previously explained, I skipped the activation screen. So I don't even know if my phone is activated any more.
Luckily my iTunes still recognizes my device and that it is in recovery mode and tries to restore it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH if you can help me! I really appreciate it all!

I have purchased unlocked phone which i had a broken rear glass and got the same replaced at Apple for $200 and have had a problem with network it was going to searching for eternity. For restoring had to disable Find My iPhone which was not working and so was advised in the community to erase the phone and restore it from iTunes on Mac. I did the same and even took the help of Customer Care Executive who tried along with me to hard reset the phone and restore it.
It would throw up the Error couldn't restore Error (3)
Tried on multliple Macs ( Thankfully have two of them) wouldn't work and then also tried on windows 8 machine wouldn't work even then.
Now i will have to go to the Store again.
Somehow suspect if the replacement phone i got was a refurbished one not a brand new one. moreover consistent issues on the network suggest that the activation wouldn't have happened in the first place.
Need help if my assumptions are true. Else would have to sue Apple in India for supplying defective handsets.
I will sue them the moment they want me to pay again for the replacement.

  • Want to Fresh Restore iOS 7.0.4 ....

I am using iOS 7.0.4. Using since 1 year . Now I want to restore fresh iOS7.0.4 again. Is it possible to do now without os upgrading to iOS8.1.2 .
    Thank You

You cannot "restore" iOS 7.0.4 as a new device through iTunes as the newest iOS version that your iPhone qualifies for (currently iOS 8.1.2) will be downloaded and installed.
You can do virtually the same thing from your device itself without having a forced iOS update if you do the following on the device:
Go to Settings/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings
If you wish to make a backup before performing this operation, go ahead and do so.
This will wipe out all user data/apps/media/music/etc and will return the device to a clean state without updating the iOS...your device will remain at the iOS version that it is currently on. If you want to restore from a backup later (however, it sounds like you do not want to), you can do so after the "Erase All Content and Settings" is completed and the iPad is being set up as a new device. Otherwise, just proceed with setting up the device from scratch.

  • Why app in my iPad 2 often quit itself? Restore iOS 5 already.

Why app in my iPad 2 often quit itself? Restore iOS 5 already.
It's happen during I use the apps even Safari too.

There have been other users who have reported frequent app crashes after installing iOS 5. If you have restored your iPad already, but you restored from a backup, the next step maybe to restore to factory settings. Then try syncing your apps back onto the iPad a few at a time. This way you can maybe pin down any particular app that may be causing the iPad to crash.
Before I would go to all of that work, I would try some basic things in hopes that something not quite so drastic will help.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Another way that you might be able to figure out which app is causing the problem is to close each app after you are done using it. It may seem tedious - and under normal circumstances you are not supposed to have to close apps since the iPad is supposed to allocate memory wherever needed and do all of this behind the scenes - but it is less drastic than removing all of your apps and syncing them back to the iPad a few at a time.
To close open apps, Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If you are only using one app and the iPad crashes while you are using it, that may indicate that there is a problem with that app. If the iPad continues to crash no matter what you do, then a restore to factory settings, a trip to the genius bar or a call to Apple may be in order.

  • Unusual iTunes problem when restoring iOS firmware(s).

As the topic says, I am having a very strange issue with iTunes and restoring iOS to not only my iPad, but also to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. So far the only way I have been able to remedy the problem seems to be manually removing iTunes and all API's and/or Frameworks via Terminal; and then re-installing iTunes. For the last several months I have been using iTunes 10.1.1/2 and when I've had to restore my iPad, I have ran into the following problem:
I put my device info DFU Mode to update and here is what happens, it extracts the software as usual and proceeds to restore. It gets nearly to the end of the restore, approximately 97-98% in iTunes, just before the Verifying Restore phase. And it simply hangs there, I have let the device sit for 10+ minutes and does not move. As I said, the only way I can fix it is to completely remove iTunes and re-install. And here is where things get even stranger yet.
A day after I had previously restored, I had to restore again because the iPad AppStore would not open properly on my iPad, and also on the previous day I had uninstalled/re-installed iTunes. And the hanging problem once again occurred, I am not sure why, _*but it seems like every time I restart*_ my MacBook Pro something in iTunes becomes corrupted for some reason and the only way to resolve the issue is a(n) uninstall/reinstall of iTunes.
If anyone has anything to add to help with, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, and 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
