Restoring ipad to new without iCloud details

Hi all..
Hoping someone can help me out.
We have a second hand business which lends on iphone/ipads etc.
People have left iPads and iPhones behind which make them the businesses legal property.
I've tried to reset the phone to new but am roadblocked by iCloud which requires "Find My iCloud" to be disabled.
That all sounds great except the device is locked into the previous owners accounts and I don't have their passwords.
Since these customers have "dumped" their devices at my store I'm not in a situation to ring them and ask them to disclose their personal information by means of
an iCloud password so I can reset their phones/ipads.
I have proof that I am the legal owner of the devices and I'm sure I could take that to a Genius Bar and they would reset them but I was wondering if there is something I could do at home to save me a trip to an Apple Store.
Thanks in advance.

You can take them to Apple themselves and they won't help you because you are not the original owner. Removing the Apple ID lock is your responsibility. You need to be sure the seller does this before you take ownership. Otherwise, you need to contact them to remove the activation lock.
Find My iPhone Activation Lock- Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
The Apple Store will not help you. We cannot help you and neither will Apple.
These devices are worthless to you and anyone to whom you sell them.

  • Synchronize Ipad & Mac Ical without Icloud

How could I synchronize Ipad & Mac Ical without ICloud? Mac Ical duplicates in Ipad Ical while Ipad Ical is not updated in Mac Ical ...

    splithsc wrote:
First uncheck syncing iCloud with calendar and reminders in System Preferences, and then set up a new calendar in iCal under On My Mac (this may not be necessary at all, but that's what I did). Then choose Find > New Calendar. Enter your iCloud account and set it up from there. In this way you will keep both On My Mac and iCloud. Hope this helps.
Attempted your method, splithsc. There are a couple of things that seem a bit unclear to me in your procedure. Besides that it didn't work for me.
I can set up a new calendar in On My Mac, but in order to do so, I had to unsubscribe from ALL shared calendars (I share some Google calendar events too) first AND turn off iCloud in order to create a calendar in On My Mac. Once that was accomplished I was able to create a calendar and an event in that Calendar that way though.
Curiously, shared Google accounts do not delete the On My Mac created calendar when they are re-enabled.
When entering iCloud again the "merge" action somehow replaces calendars On My Mac not merge them as the menu states, merges the calendar created in On My Mac and deletes the entry sort of as it says! Events created in the Calendar are gone but the calendar is gone!
Turning off the iCloud doesn't bring back the missing "On My Mac" nor data in it, however.

  • An unknown error occurred (-1) while trying to restore Ipad 3 new

Happy iPad users, I may need some help from you please.
I’ve got a problem with my iPad new 32 GB WiFi + 4G LTE.
I bought it just recently in China and was using it for nearly one month without any issues.
Then at some point i started getting synchronization problems with iTunes and applications that I have downloaded did not run properly or simply won’t start on my iPad. Then I’ve lost cellular signal.
Trying to resolve the issues I had to reset iPad to factory settings and after that I could not register it with apple. I tried many times with no success.
Then I went through some internet articles and decided to restore my iPad and finally I’ve got my almost new iPad stuck is restore mode!!!
I cannot get it out of restore mode and I cannot get it restored.
When I try to restore it I get the following message:the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)the ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
The ipad "ipad" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)
Here are the things I’ve done so far trying to restore it
Tried to restore in on Windows XP – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on Windows 7 – no luck, same message
Tried to restore it on MacBook – NO LUCK, SAME MESSAGE
Tried to use recovery fix option on redsn0w. Did not help. I tried different versions of this program with no success. Maximum what I had is my iPad was entering “white apple mode” after clicking fix restore button.
Tried to restore iPad from DFU mode both on Windows XP and Windows 7, no luck, same message (error -1)
I suspect that my iPad may have a hardware issue however I still hope it can be fixed with your help.
We don’t have an official apple support centers where I leave and I would like to try all the options before I send it to abroad apple support center or to a shop where I bought it.
Please can anybody help me with advice on how to fix my iPad?
    Thank you all in advance.

I am facing the same issue, have you had luck getting it solved?

  • Shall I restore as a new iPad then sync from iCloud?

I've been having a frustrating few days trying to get music, photos, books ey to sync after the software updates with absolutely no joy. Been getting loads of different messages via iTunes from stopped waiting for sync to start, to sync cancelled. My iPad does have nearly 1gb of yellow other content and I'm wondering whether to restore as a new iPad to get rid of this. My question is, if I do this and then can successfully sync, if I then back up from the cloud will my settings revert to including the yellow mystery content? Any views appreciated: it's becoming a real pain to manually load apps from the cloud one one by one after each unsuccessful restore and sync. ITunes is running on Vista and it's an ipad1.  Please help.

    Suggest you do this:
    1. Backup iPad to iTunes or iCloud
    2. Restore iPad to Factory Default (setup as new)
    3. Update to IOS 8
    4. Restore backup from iTunes or iCloud
Note: This way you get a clean install

  • How do I restore addresses from archive file or time machine without iCloud overriding?

I recently had an issue with my address book contacts.  About 90% of the contacts disappeared, then synched through iCloud to my iphone and ipad.....so nearly all my contacts were lost on all devices.  I have both time machine and an address book archive file.
When I tried restoring from time machine, the iCloud synching saw it as an older version of the file and went to the deleted contacts version....i.e. I was right back where I started.
When I tried importing from the address book archive, the same thing happened.....iCloud saw the imported version as an older copy of the contacts file and deleted out everything I had just imported.
The only way I was able to get the contacts back was to go to time machine (with address book application open), select all the contacts, copy them, cancel out of time machine, and then paste the contacts into the current version of address book.....I guess the system sees that as a "new" version of the contact and doesn't overrite it.  Problem is that it doesn't carry over all the different groups that way, and I have to move addresses into the groups all over again....kinda time consuming.
Any ideas on how to import from archive or restore from time machine (the normal way) without iCloud synching overriding the "older" and desired version of the file?  Address book doesn't have any option to "override current contacts with imported ones".....
    Thanks.

    Try this:
Turn off your internet connection completely: check it's really off.
Import your backup into Address Book.
    Select all your contacts.
From the File menu choose Export>vCard and save the file somewhere convenient.
Now turn the internet connection back on. Your contacts will disappear from Address Book again.
From the File menu choose 'Import' and select the file you exported to.
Hopefully this contacts list will stay in place: wait until it's synced to iCloud and check that it's on the website and syncs to your Phone.

  • Names of contacts without their details appear on my iPad (iOS5).

I have upgraded my iPhone 4 and iPad to iOS 5.
The contacts on my iPad show only the names without any details whatsoever.
Contacts on my iPhone are complete.
I have swtiched off contacts, then rebooted, thne switched on again, all to no avail.
Can anyone help to solve this?
    Thanks
    Jon

I couldn't do this because I didn't have any groups defined in the first place, however a workaround (for the workaround) would be to create a group from iCloud.com (select more than one contact at a time and the option appears) and then do it.
What did end-up working for me was clicking on the "+" button under the contact list.  When the new contact form came-up, I tabbed around in a few fields and then clicked "Cancel."  When I did, my contact details appeared!  I'm SURE I tried this same thing last night and it didn't work, so your mileage may vary, but it did do it for me this time.

  • How do i delete the icloud account on my iphone without login details

How do i delete the icloud account on my iphone without login details or access to the email account which it was set up with?

While you can delete the existing iCloud account by forcing the phone into recovery mode & restoring it, or logging into iCloud.com & erasing the phone, you won't be able to activate the phone unless you you know the original Apple ID/Password that was originally used to activate the phone. The phone will be useless.
    This is called Activation Lock.

  • Can I send pics on ipad to icloud without icloud importing existing pics to ipad?

    Hi there!
Is there a way to set up my ipad so that pictures and video I take on my ipad will go to my icloud account without my existing pictures and video (in icloud) appearing on my ipad?
I just set up my new ipad mini and it started importing hundreds of photos from my icloud account. I'd like to keep storage space on the ipad as free as possible so that when I go to take a picture or video of my newborn, I don't get the "not enough storage space" error message that I've been getting on my iphone 4S (and then missing the opportunity to capture a moment with my little one!).
I currently subscribe to the 20GB ($40/year) icloud storage plan.
    Thanks so much!

You could go to Settings>iCloud>Photos and only turn on Photo Sharing (not My Photo Stream).  Then add the photos/videos you want to a shared stream as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99.  (If you only want to see the shared stream on your own devices you don't have to add an email address; just tap Next to skip that step.  As the owner of the shared stream you are automatically subscribed.)  That will allow you to not download existing my photo stream photos to your iPad and still use iCloud to stream the photos/videos you want to your other devices.  Note: you can only add videos up to 5 min. in length.  Also, videos in a shared stream cannot be saved on another iOS device; they can only be saved on a computer.

  • HT4859 How can I restore a previous backup in iCloud storage for my iPad?

How can I restore a previous backup in iCloud storage for my iPad?

Restoring an iCloud backup requires you to first erase your iPad.  If you have any newer data that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the iPad and when given the option, choose Restore from iPad backup.

  • HT201263 I have restored my iPad (first generation without retina display) and it finishes restoring software but will not stay on for me to restore the data and then shuts off whenever I try to turn it on. I don't believe that it is charging! HELP!

Long story about what happened but basically I was using the iPad (first generation without retina display) to watch TV at one point it had 20% battery so I plugged it in then it wasn't charging and I didn't realize so it got to 5% and shut off. I plugged it in to charge it but it just kept shutting down and showing the apple logo, then briefly showing me my home screen before shutting off again. I waited a while to see if it would charge, while it continued to turn off and on by itself. Finally, I unplugged it to see if it had gotten any charge but it just told me to plug it in again. I plugged it into a different charger, same thing. I decided to try connecting it to a computer and it stopped turning on but it did not seem to charge. I tried restoring it as it said in the article. It worked until it got to restoring the iPad from the backup that I had because it immediately shutdown before I could continue. I tried to restore it a second time but still it shut down! I'm so frusturated and I cannot afford to get a new iPad, I need it for school and there is no Apple store for 80 miles nor do I have any insurance or warranty on it! (Obviously considering it's the first iPad to ever come out.) I really don't know what to do! HELP

I backed up my ipad to the cloud as it had a broken screen so I swaped it out for a new one and now I cant restore because the new Ipad has IOS 6 and my back up is 6.1!  This is what I get for buying an Ipad twice in a week because of a broken screen? $500 the first buy and then another $299 plus tax for the swaped out one that I can't restore with my backup data.

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.
Copied from the article that linked you to this discussion ....
    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.
