Restoring iphone 3gs to 4s running ios10.4.11 on mac...HELP!!

I am currently running ios 10.4.11 on my Mac and itunes 9.2. I had a 3gs and i am trying to restore everything onto my new 4s. The problem is that itunes will not let me download itunes10 without ios10.5. is there an easy way round this?

The iPhone, by design, will sync or manually manage iTunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to do so on a second computer will result in all iTunes content being first erased from your phone, to be replaced with the content from the second computer.
You can, however, update iPhone software on any computer. What you don't want to do is sync if this is not the computer you normally sync with. Updating iPhone software does not touch any user data or settings, unless something goes wrong(rare). If you used a different computer to update your phone, that would work, as long as you don't sync. The real danger is that if something goes wrong, you could lose all of your data.

  • Unable to restore Iphone 3GS 1604 Error

    Hello,
I have been trying for hours to restore Iphone 3GS in XP. All i did was click "yes" to update iphone and now I am in a mess. Tried reinstalling, different ports, different cables, still unable to restore.

I'm not sure, or else more people would be posting about it. Best way to tell is try at a different time.
Also, you could try putting the phone in Forced Recovery mode as outlined in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
Also, are you using iPhone cables or iPod cables? If you're using the appropriate cable and the same thing happens, then hopefully your phone is still within warranty and you can go to an Apple Store for the Genius Bar.

How to restore iPhone 3gs with error code 1015 ??

The only advice we can give is to try and put it into DFU mode and restore. If that doesn't fix it, buy a new phone.
There is a reason that Jailbreaking isn't supported. You have just been kicked in the donkey by it.

  • My iPhone 3GS battery is running down too quickly

In the last few days, my iPhone has started running down *very* quickly. I have been running iOS 6.1 for ages without any problems. Could this all of a sudden cause problems like this?
I have disabled mobile data and 3GS and just left the clock, calendar and reminders running, but this has not helped. It was 100% charged when I went to sleep last night, and when I woke up this morning it was down to 20%.
Can anyone advise me on a way to fix this please?

Really... took me all of a minute to find http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802 which reveals:
    Battery life seems short
Note: Charging with a FireWire-based power source is not supported, except on original iPhone.
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning  iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a   computer, don't connect iPhone to   a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

  • Can't restore Iphone 3gs because can't charge

I have an iPhone 3GS that I bought from ebay about a year ago and although it's worked fairly well so far, there have been the occasional glitch, which I've always been able to fix myself (needing to be restored, issues with software, etc).
However, last night a new one cropped up and I'm somewhat stuck. The battery, for some reason, completely, which I can only assume is due to my having left something running by mistake. When I went to charge it, it repeatedly switched on and off. As it was the middle of the night, I unplugged it so I could sleep, and tried again this morning. Same thing. It switches on, gets as far as showing the lock screen (complete with 'No Service' at the top left), says it has 5% charge and then goes black and does the whole thing over again. It does this consistently, making it so that I can't get the phone to charge or anything. I attempted to put it into restore mode, but since the battery's dead, I can't start the process without the phone plugged in because I get told to charge it.
Is there any way I can get it to not switch on when I plug it in, so that I can at least charge it so that I'm able to try to restore it? I do have insurance on it, but I'm a little wary of using it just yet, in case this is easily fixable, and as it's secondhand, it's well out of Apple warranty.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get to the genius bar, so I took it to a local repair shop that's always been good in the past. He replaced the battery and, for good measure, the charging port. So far, no change, it's still stuck in a boot loop. I can sometimes get it as far as selecting my country and connecting to iTunes, then the problem starts over again

  • How to restore iPhone 3gs with error code 21

I have an Iphone 3GS. I replaced the battery and digitizer. When I plug in to Itunes the Iphone wants to "restore", but I recieve an error code 21, and it will not "restore.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Peter,
In the past, I have had some devices show that error but I was able to simply hard reset the device and it booted fine.
Was the phone jailbroken before?  Also, I would make sure you are attempting the restore in DFU mode versus Recovery mode.  It sounds like it is having a conflict with the baseband which is why the device is not allowing itself to boot.  You might also try using TinyUmbrella to fix recovery.
If you continue having issues, let me know.  Also let me know if you are using PC or Mac and which OS you are running.
Let me know how it goes!  If it doesn't work I may have a few other tricks up my sleeve.

  • Error 3014 when restoring iphone 3gs

    Hello everyone.
    This is my first post.
I have an iphone 3gs 8 gig, which i have been using just fine for about a year now but yesterday I tried to update the software as I was running an old version (4.2 I think?) and the facebook ap and some others were no longer supported. So I updated my itunes to the latest version (10.7.021) then backed up my iphone to make sure I didnt lose any data/pictures. It then downloaded the new ios software and tried to update the iphone. It extracts the software fine, but hangs just after with the error message:
"The iphone could not be restored, An unknown error occured (3014)"
Im running windows XP on a toshiba satellite pro laptop, all my windows updates are up to date and I am connected correctly to the internet.
Can somebody please help me as I now have a completely dead iphone
If I cant get the new ios to work on this older 3GS is there a way I can instal a version that will work?
This phone has never been jailbroken and I dont want to start doing that sort of thing now really..
Any help is very gratefully received!!
    Carly

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to reply. I have read every single post that I could find on this error code. Most are unhelpful posts such as yours, but the ones with actual advice I followed to the tee and still I cannot get my phone to restore. Ive turned off fvirewalls, connected via a cable, tried a different usb port (4) tried 2 different cables, tried connecting directly to my router and wirelessly all with absolutely no resolution.
Do you have something else I could try rather than a patronising reply about ettiquette?
    thanks
    Carly

  • Restoring iPhone 3GS

I recently lost all of my settings and other recent changes on my iphone 3GS after my iphone crashed during my latest update.  iTunes locked me out for a while and finally when my phone was able to connect to iTunes again it forced me to do a restore to factory settings because it had no record of any of my previous syncings.
My phone works fine now, but it is just frustrating that all of the little changes are gone.  I use time machine occasionally to backup my system.  So I found a file on my time machine with a Mobilesync backup from about a month ago.  I would much rather have lost a month instead of 2 years.  But when I open the mobilesync file it is just a ton of random files that are composed of letters and numbers.  I think these are what I need, but I don't know how to get them back on my phone.  Any ideas?
Thanks for any help I can get
