Restoring iPhone 4s BACK to iOS 5.0.1

I know that 5.1 is great and all, but I have had NOTHING but problems since installing 5.1 with my battery.
I plug the iPhone in to charge, and it says 100%, take it off the charger and within minutes (and me not doing ANYTHING on the phone), the battery life drops at least 5%.
This has been happening on both my phone and my husbands phone, and so we took the phones to the Apple Store and they replaced them for us.
My husband did NOT upgrade to 5.1 and I did. Since I reverted back to 5.1, I have had the SAME battery problems as before, and his battery has no problems. I have reset my phone probably 7 times since I got it Saturday, each time trying to get 5.0.1 to install back on there, but it never does.
So, my question is.... how can I get back to iOS 5.0.1 without having to go back to the Apple store and have them replace the phone again? Every time I try and restore the phone back to factory settings, it installs it with 5.1.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

There is no legit way at all to downgrade.

  • Restore iPhone 4 back to 3GS

My iPhone 4S went for a swim.  I have a backup from a few days ago and an old 3GS that carrier has transferred the SIM to.  Figure I need to:
    1. update iOS on 3GS to 6.1.3 (version that was in place on iPhone 4).
    2. restore iPhone 4S back to 3GS.
Is that feasible?  Anything else that should be done before/during/after?  Thanks.

That should do it. This support document should help as well. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109

  • Why is restoring iphone from back up taking so long?

why is restoring iphone from back up taking so long?  i'm updating the software on my iphone 4 and started it yesterday... then my imac goes to sleep and not sure if the update is continuing... it says time remaining 31 minutes... then 33... 35... 37... it just keeps getting longer... what gives?

    Hello,
How much data did you have on your iPhone? Usually this restore is a lengthy process, so I reccomend leaving it overnight.

  • HT1414 how to restore iPhone 4 without downloading iOS update

How to restore iPhone 4 without downloading iOS 7.6 update?

If Find My Phone is turned on, login to iCloud.com, using your computer, locate the phone, then erase it. This will remove the passcode without having to restore the phone.
If you can't do that, you'll have to force the phone into recovery mode, & restore it.

  • Tried to restore iphone 4 back to factory settings now on emergency call only screen?

tried to restore iphone 4 back to factory settings now on emergency call only screen? it also says hook phone up with itunes. well i have an old mac and my itunes isnt up to date and cant be installed up to date because of the old software. what do i do?

You'll need to update your system or fine a system you can use to activate it. There's no way around it.
If you can get to an Apple store and explain the situation to them, they 'may' be able to hook you up with an OS upgrade to Leopard assuming you have a G4 or G5 mac that can handle it.

  • Unable to restore iPhone 4 (GSM) after IOS 5 update attampt

    Hey,
I downloaded iTunes 10.5 and then tried to update iPhone 4 (gsm) to IOS 5.
the update had failed for no clear reason and from that point on I’m trying to restore it.
for the past 20 attempts (several on my laptop and the rest on a PC), I get the same error massage:
“The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).”
I have not jailbroken the iPhone, i only have dozen or so apps, synced it every other day.
    b.t.w
i tried the DUF mode before connecting it to the pc.
also, i tried downgrading back and restoring with the following ipsw packages: IOS 4.3.2, 4.3.4, 4.3.5 and 5.
different error code appears with each ipsw.
in the last attampt it got through the whole progress bar (so it might now be a problem with the firmware), but then it err and gave me the same massage.
what shell I do now? plz help me.

I managed to upgrade to ios5 ok but now when im trying to restore from the backup to get all my apps, photos, contacts etc back i get the same -1 error message. Really hope someone can help please!!!

  • ITunes keep saying restoring iPhone after updating to iOS 5

I have just upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. After updating, my iTunes keep saying restoring iPhone apps. Now I can use my iPhone but without my previous apps. I have also tried closing iTunes and open it again but it still says restoring iPhone apps as soon as it detact my iPhone. Does anyone knows how to solve this problem? By the way, I am using Windows.

I had the same issue with my iPad. The iPad itself thought it was fully updated (had taken me to the iCloud set up etc) but iTunes insisted it was still restoring apps. I closed down iTunes each time via the task manager.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, which didn't help.
What I did in the end was disconnect the iPad while iTunes was still running - without any attempt to eject it. When I then plugged it back in, it came up with an error message along the lines of "An attempt to restore this iPad was interrupted. Do you wish to continue attempting to restore?" I hit cancel, and I was then able to do a manual sync as normal, and all my app data was restored.

  • Restoring iphone after updating to ios 7.0.4

I just updated my iphone to IOS 7.0.4 and am having trouble restoring from itunes backup. When I click on the restore backup button, it seems to work momentarily, until I get a message stating "could not restore iphone because not enough space is available on the iphone." How do I proceed from here, without having to restore to factory settings? I appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

I would try restoring to factory settings first. You won't lose anything since you have a backup file and you don't have many other options left to you.

  • Does the Restore function roll back installed iOS version?

    Hey there!
I am thinking of getting a iPod Touch 3rd Generation next week, it's a second hand buy, so I am interested in the exact functions of the Factory Reset option.
Currently, the device is a later iOS 5, but I can't say exactly which one. I'd like for it to stay that way, so I want to know if the Factory Reset option rolls back the iOS version to the version with which the device shipped, or it will simply wipe it?
I'm just interested in the wipe part of the factory reset, the iPod has been used by another person and I am sure they won't bother to remove anything. Plus the device is a bit sluggish, so I believe this might help speed it up. [tips for speeding up a iPod Touch 3rd Gen are welcomed too]
Thanks in advance for your time!

Restoring will install the latest version of iOS compatible with the iPod. For the 3rd generation, that would be iOS 5.1.1.

  • How can I downgrade my iPhone 4 back to IOS 5.1.1? IOS 6 isn't working for me.

I've been having wifi problems and I heard it could be fixed by downgrading. Now I just need to figure out how to do that.

Here is the straight answer, and you are not going to like it:
There is buzz all over the internet about how to revert back to iOS 5.1.1 after upgrading to iOS6.  Many of the 'experts' on this site simply tell you 'no, it is unsupported' but don't say why.  My best guess is they simply don't know, and are spouting 'applespeak'  Here is why:
Although iOS 5.1.1 firmware is freely available for download, and there are various 'jailbreak' programs that will allow you to attempt a downgrade, there is one critical part missing - the individual digital signature for your device, and your device alone - the SHSH blob.  This is what allows the firmware to load.  It can't be downloaded.  It can't be copied from another device.  It must be saved before you upgrade, something most people that are asking the downgrade question have not done - and never thought to do.  Once you have upgraded to iOS6, the SHSH blob for iOS 5.1.1 is gone, and you are stuck, until the applemeisters decide to issue the next iteration of the OS, which may or may not fix your individual issue(s).
My advice to everyone that reads this is to email Tim Cook (tcookatappledotcom), and let him know how you feel.  I did.  I have been a fan of Apple since the iPod Mini, and now find myself cooling toward this brilliant, but flawed company.

  • If you restore iPhone without backing up will you delete recently downloaded music?

I'm having problems with my ipad and iPhone, and because of this I've been advised not to sync to tines until I can take them to the apple store. However, I've purchased several songs through the iTunes Store since my last back up, and if the devices get restored at the apple store, will these songs be lost because they're not on my laptops iTunes library? Will I have to repurchase them? Thanks!

Whether you will need to repurchase them depends upon what country that you are in (music can't be redownloaded in all countries) and if they remain in your country's store (content providers occasionally remove their items from the store). Also none of your downloads from the store are included in a backup, when restoring to an iTunes backup it picks up your songs, apps etc from your iTunes library, it's things such as the contents of your apps (documents, files etc), emails, contacts etc that are in the actual backup.
If you go to the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes :
Does music show there ? If it does then download it on your computer so that you have a copy of it.

  • Issues Restoring iPhone Using iCloud in iOS 7

    Hi all,
I've been troubleshooting with Apple for about a week about this issue, but since I have essentially gotten no where other than wasting an embarrassing amount of time, I thought I'd turn to the support community to see if anyone else out there had any advice.
I'll try to keep this brief.
When I set up my Apple ID over a decade ago, I used my school email address, which expired long ago.  For the better part of the last decade, I've been using my personal gmail address for my Apple ID.  I've restored my phone countless times in previous versions of iOS without ever running into an issue.  However, when trying to restore my phone from iCloud in iOS 7, I know get a message asking me for the password to my Apple ID using my school email address.  I've tried changing my Apple ID back to the school email (per Apple's recommendation), but when I try to restore the phone, it doesn't show any available backups.  The right backup does show up when I go back to my gmail address, but I can't get past the page asking for the password to my ID using my school ID.
If anyone else has run into this issue and has any recommendations for working around it, I would be eternally grateful for any advice you have to offer.
    Thanks in advance.
