Restoring iPhone 4S' backup failed to restore emergency contacts?

Hello.
Is it me or does restoring iTunes v12.1.1's iPhone 4S (iOS v8.2)'s back up (before upgrading iOS v8.1.2 to v8.2) does not restore Emergency Contacts I stored in a very old, updated Windows XP Pro SP3 machine? I had to re-enter these datas into iPhone 4S.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Jeff,
It sounds like you want to unlock your iPhone and tried to restore it but ran into an issue with that process. If your carrier gave you a new SIM, you can unlock the iPhone without restoring it as shown in the first article below. If you do not have another SIM or just want to resolve the restore issue, try the suggestions in the second article.

I hope this helps.

  • IPhone 5 backup failed

I tried several times to backup my iPhone 5 but failed.
Several times it only run for 1 minute and told me 'the last backup could not be completed.'
This morning, it run for almost 1hr and told me the same.
The last backup still keeps in 2013.
    What should I do?
I am sure I have enough space to backup!
    Please help.

Delete the backup and try again.
Computer iTunes > Preferences... (Windows: Edit > Preferences...) > Devices > mark your back and click Delete button.

  • TS3992 how long does it take for my iphone to backup, very few pic, just contacts

How long will it take my Iphone to back up, I only have a few pic, mabey 50 contacts.

Contacts are not backed up since they are in their own database (the one used for syncing).  I have a few pics also, and an initial backup took several minutes at 454 MB.
    Go to:
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, there you'll find how much the last backup was, and if you tap the device name under "Backups", you see the "Next Backup Size" for the next backup.

  • Restored iPhone to fix a ringer failure, but lost all my texts and pictures in the process. Then, my backup failed to mount. Is there any possibility of recovering them?

So my iPhone 4S stopped ringing, and I was missing all of my calls. The speaker works, it's not on silent, and I'd exhausted most every other option (messing around with accessibility options and various soft resets), to no avail.
So I reset it to factory settings, logged in with my Apple ID, and lo and behold, my backup failed to take. All my apps got restored, but my texts and all of my pictures are missing.
So here's what I want to find out.
    1. Does the reset procedure involve writing over all old information with 0s?
    2. If not, is it possible to recover the data, in full or in part, through some alternative methods?
The phone is out of warranty, so I'm willing to try whatever it may take to get this data back.
    Thanks in advance.

Apps have never been included in the backup, so is there actually a backup?
Have you failed to use the device as designed, meaning syncing contacts to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service?
There are some 3rd party programs that claim to be able to extract data (like sms) from a backup, try a google search.
Unless you're willing to spend and extremely large amount of money, there is no way to recover the data that may still exist on the iPhone.

Here's what I found in this article Update and restore error messages on iPhone and iPod touch about error 14:
I think you should start with checking the security software settings first.
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

If you never backed up your phone to iTunes and never backed it up to iCloud all of your content is gone forever.

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and cannot get it to dry out enough to turn back on.  I may have fried the battery.  I am using an old iPhone 3 temporarily but cannot get all of my current info to sync.  My calendar is up to date but none of my notes have transferred over and the contact list is from when I originally used the iPhone 3 last year.  How do I get my iPhone 4 info synced onto the iPhone 3?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't restore an iPhone 3G from an iPhone 4 backup. Until you get a replacement you can access your iCloud data at iCloud.com on a computer.

how to restore iphon-without backup, after it synchronization from ipod

    Thanks Eric,
After inserting the original DVD I installed OSX and after reboot I had a working computer.
There was no opportunity to restore the TM backup. however when I rebooted from the
DVD again I saw that possibility from a menu of the install utility.
I ran through the restore over night (8 hours) and when I woke up, I had my computer back!
    Thanks for helping me out.

  • How to restore a used iphone with another iphone's backup?

    Hi,
My husband broke his iphone so I made him a deal: I get to buy the new 3G S, and he can have my 3G. Here's my problem. I restored my brand-new 3G S from my 3G's backup when I came home from purchasing it and all is great there. Now I'm trying to restore my old 3G with a backup of mu husband's iPhone. I switched the SIMs and so his number now works on my old 3G, but it still has all of my contacts and everything. When I hook it up into iTunes I don't see an option to restore that phone with a different backup, because of course it recognizes that phone and has backups from it already. In iTunes, I have to date backed up my husband's old (broken)original iPhone, my old 3G and my new 3G S. Want to restore the 3G with original iPhone's backup.
Thanks for help! Will mark solved/helpful.

I did this (but the other way round - she gets the old one and I get the new one - Bwahahahahaha!!!!)
Anyway (sorry about that - it's the heat), I did the restore on her 'new' phone, and iTunes asked at some point whether I wanted to restore as <whatever we called her phone originally> or as a new iPhone.
I chose 'new iPhone' and resynced everything from iTunes, but you could choose 'husband's phone' and restore from an existing backup.

  • Time machine backup failed to restore

HHaving had major issues with Mail I decided to restore from a Time Machine backup. With hindsight I wish I hadn't! Having foolishly agreed to the 'this will erase everything' warning I waited 8 hours (twice) to get the message that my backup failed to restore. No more detail than that. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions? I have a MBA with latest upgrade of Yosemite (last upgrade probably caused my Mail issue). Everything is backed up using Time Machine to a Netgear NAS. When going through the restore process I have no is

TThanks Eric. At present I can't connect the NAS directly. I dont seem to have a usb to usb cable. It is connecting via a network cable. My MBA can see the NAS and I've successfully entered my login details and chosen the backup I want to restore.
On C's recommendation I tried reinstalling OSX and planned to then try importing all my files on,y to find that there was not enough disk space. I've now erased everything as it occurred to me that starting with most of my 250G drive free might help. I'm having one more go at restoring directly from the TM backup as this would be my preferred solution (indeed what I had assumed Time Machine was meant for). On,y another 7 hours 26 minutes to wait. If that fails I will have another go at a fresh OS X install and reimport from TM (on the assumption that an empty hard disk will allow that this time).
ANd  do all this because MaIl stopped working with my old POP account and I screwed up the switch to IMAP (by dragging my old Pop account contents across to the new IMAP account is created - will need to do that more carefully if I ever get back to where I started!).

  • Restoring iphone from backup estimating time remaining stuck

I have been updating my boyfriend's iphone.  It has not been updated for a while.  I backed up everything on itunes.  I then went to restore (the first time) and within 10-15 minutes it said there was 1 hour left, 2 hour left, 3 hours left.  I did something else for about 20/30 minutes, came back to my computer and it was asleep and everything had ended.  It did not finish.
I have now tried to restore a couple times and cannot get past the estimated time remaining.....  What do I do?  It's been "estimating time" for about a half hour.
    Please help.  Beyond frustrated.

Just got an Iphone 5, trying to restore it from my Iphone 4 backup. I just shows estimating time remaining for the past hour and a half. Might just leave it up and hopefully something will happen.

I am currently using iPhone 5 and changing to iphone 6 in sometime. I have taken backup of my photos, videos, contacts, notes and whatsapp. The only thing that remains is my iMessage. Can someone tell me how to backup and restore my iMessages?

iMessages are backed up in the normal backup of your phone so it will be restored when you restore the backup.

  • Time Machine Backup fails after Restore

Had my 500GB HD on my iMac fail. After being replaced by Apple, I performed a restore from 1TB time machine backup. After this was done, I set time machine back up to back up to this 1TB drive. I want it to append to the previous backups. However, the backup fails due to "backup is too large for the backup volume". It doesn't seem to want to append to previous backups but thinks this is an entirely new backup, which I guess is mostly true. I suspect this has to do with UUIDs of the new and old drives, but I'm not sure how to correct it (I'd prefer not to just wipe the backup disk and start over). I migrated backups before from one extenal HD to another but can't remember what I did... If anyone has steps to fix this, let me know em. Thanks.
    Here's the time machine log:
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/MyBook-Mac/Backups.backupdb
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD
    Node requires deep traversal:/ reason:kFSEDBEventFlagMustScanSubDirs|
Starting pre-backup thinning: 506.55 GB requested (including padding), 502.31 GB available
No expired backups exist - deleting oldest backups to make room
Error: backup disk is full - all 0 possible backups were removed, but space is still needed.
Backup Failed: unable to free 506.55 GB needed space
Backup failed with error: Not enough available disk space on the target volume.

yes, that's correct. TM will make a full backup after a full system restore on a new hard drive because the UUIDs of the new drive is different from the old one.
you may try the following hack to get around it

But I make no promises about how well it works.
