RESTORING IPOD MAJOR PROBLEM!

I have tried to resotre my ipod i installed things etc.. i have now go to the point where it says connect to a power supply, which i do not have. I have tried everything but it still says on the screen connect to power supply (image)
Please any help

When updating or restoring some older iPods (not the iPod Classic) via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see this icon displayed.
It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
Or you can try this.
No power adaptor? Try this.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

  • Ipod major problems. replacement? please read

I've had uncountable problems with my ipod mini and I am definately going to send it in. Although, I do NOT want another mini with all of the problems i've had with it -- my entire ipod got deleted, today for the 4th time. Is there any way they could send me a nano or a regular ipod, even if i have to pay the difference between the mini and those two ipods?

Not a chance. If you send in your mini for service, then you will get back another new or refurbished mini as a replacement.

  • IPod:  MAJOR PROBLEM suspected

Here's the scoop. When ever I try to power on my click-wheel 40GB iPod, the apple logo comes up on the display and a "clicking" sound begins (ie a hard drive starting up!) but then I get either a sad ipod icon or a folder with an exclamation point icon. I placed the ipod in the dock and my computer can't detect it, I've tried EVERYTHING Apple's support website suggested (nothing worked) and to have it even looked at by apple with cost me $260.00 or there's about. It's cheaper to buy a new one! But before I do, does anyone have any suggestions?

Clicking iPod Fix! (reposting my earlier post):
My 4G (click-wheel) iPod disk was clicking and then failed with the sad mac face. Genius bar geniuses told me it was a bad disk drive. I had already swapped out the drive (using a company that has refurbished parts and great on-line guides for do-it-yourself repair). The new drive still didn't fix it. But then I ran across this article that says that it might just be a loose disk drive connector where it attaches to the logic board. I re-seated the connector and voila' -- fixed! See this article for more info:
    http://lowendmac.com/zisman/06/0911.html
Total cost $7 for the plastic case-opening tools...amazing.
Evidently this is why people have said that "dropping" the iPod seems to fix it....it's an internal connector problem.
BTW...the site I used was ifixit.com (check out their "disk drive connector replacement guide)....but I didn't replace it, just re-seated it. AND, I have NO (none, zip, nada) interest in ifixit.com...they're just very helpful and I've used them.

    Try resetting your iPod:
Move the hold switch back and forth so that it ends up in the "Off" position (no orange color showing).
Then, hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see an Apple logo on the screen.
Then release the buttons, and let the iPod start back up... and your iPod should be back up and running.

  • Major problems with my ipod...

It's quite irritating, and I'd like to start right from the beginning with it's history. if you're uninterested in the history of problems I've had with it just scroll down.
Anyways, I've had my ipod touch since christmas 2008, and in the beginning (maybe the first 1 or 2 syncs) everything was fine. On the third sync i started having problems, and had constantly had to try to get past them where one day i was finally able to completely sync it. After that 3rd sync I never bothered syncing it again on itunes.
Now i got a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1525 which uses Vista Home Premium. Since I got my new laptop I wanted to get it connected to itunes from it, rather than the desktop because I was giving the desktop to my dad for him to use as a server (or something, I'm not quite sure). The first time I plugged in my ipod touch, it caused itunes to freeze, making me unplug it and restart my computer.
    (My problem:)
Today, I tried syncing it because I was told by my friend a new update to the software was available via itunes which was meant to fix the recent problems with it. I decided to install it, everything was going great. When the software installed into my ipod touch, I tried to sync it, but alas it still did not work. In the end I tried restoring my ipod, and here's where the major problem happened. It started to restore and near the end it told me my device timed out. I unplug and replug my ipod to get the same message.
After 1-2 times, I closed and re-opened itunes in which I tried plugging my ipod touch in again. It gave me an error message (unfortunately I don't remember it), so I decided to restore it one last time. This caused my ipod to now "not be recognized by itunes" as it malfunctioned. I know people have been posting about this problem, but it's not the only problem my ipod has now. Now my iPod touch won't even turn on. i've done EVERYTHING, I held the power and hold button, I held the power and hold button for 10 seconds and held the hold button for another 20seconds (like someone had suggested) and it did not work, and nothings working.
I plan on returning it in exhange for a new one, but i really don't want this to happen again, which i'm afraid it might.
    So I have two questions:
    1) Why did my iPod do this, and why won't it turn on no matter what the typical drastic responses tell me to do?
    2) What can i do so that my ipod will properly sync on my Window's Vista?

Is your laptop going to sleep in the process of restoring the Touch? To be safe, you might want to temporarily disable "Hibernation" on your laptop while you sync, and make sure that you have external power applied.

  • IPod Mini ~Major Problem

Ive had my iPod Mini for 2 years roughly I think now and havent had any major problems at all.
Yesterday its started playing songs without my touching any buttons and skipping to the next song in exactly the same place as the one before started ~ 2.05 minutes.
When I turned it off it still continued to play random songs.
I tried playing a song it played for two seconds then skipped to the next and played that for a bit then skipped to the next until the playlist had finished where it then returned to the main menu and played a completely random song not even on the playlist i chose previously.
I have not misued my ipod, dropped it, spilt water on it or damaged it in any way.
I have restored it to Main Factory settings and it has done nothing.
If any of you have experienced the same problem or have any ideas of how to help please reply.
    I would be truely grateful

    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
If does not work, please find a Mac computer
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
I could be wrong, I believe that it could have some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, doing a full format can only solve 80-90%

  • IPod classic 60 GB major problem

I switched on my cousins iPod classic 60 GB and there was a message that connect to a PC, so I connected it to a PC without iTunes and it required iTunes so I've installed it there and it was unable to restore at the beginning, after doing some tips from Internet I could manage to restore it but the major problem is that its capacity now is only 15.8 GB so I've tried to reset and format nothing is working(even on mac), I think there is something wrong with the MBR or MFT, so if you can help reseting the MBR and MFT or in any way to solve this problem I'll be thankful, because it's really annoying when something went wrong with things that do not belong to you............
you can mail me on: [email protected]

Actually.....people DON'T have an iPod Classic 60 GB, because there is no such thing. You may have a 60 GB 5 Gen or 5.5 Gen Ipod video, but technically that is not an iPod Classic. Your question may reciueve a better response in the master catagory for 5Gen iPods.

  • Major Problems with iPod

"I'm having the exact same problem. My computer that I started out on iPod/iTunes crashed a couple months ago, and I got my laptop in response to that. Now that I am basically all resetup with iTunes/iPod I would love to sync new music to it without losing my original library that I've carried for ages, however the original computer now has absolutely no documents of any kind to speak of (on my side) since it crashed and stole everything. Is there anyway I can stop being fusterated with this problem and be able to sync just my brand new music/videos I just bought last night but at the same time not lose my original library???"<--This was taken from my original post on another topic which has since been generally answered..so they say- I'm still having major problems so I'm starting this topic. (That topic is entitled: "update from another computer". Here's the link http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1547424 )
(The music that I carried around for ages got erased) Okay, I have gotten all of my music (basically except for a few) back onto my iTunes after losing it all due to a computer crash. Now, I am trying to get that stuff onto my iPod by way of syncing it. However the iTunes wants me to restore the iPod to the factory settings since it can't read it anymore. Don't ask me why it is saying this I have NO idea!!! Bad thing with restoring the factory settings is I lose all my old photos.
    Help PLEASE!!!!

I caved and restored the factory settings

  • HT201210 been trying to restore ipod touch for days after updating itunes. keep getting error #9. Tried it on 2 computers, with vista + XP. tried all the solutions posted. nothing is working. Thanks Apple. Didn't have this problem before updating itunes!

Been trying to restore Ipod touch for days after updating Itunes. Error code #9. Stuck on restore screen. Tried all the solutions posted. Tried on 2 computers, Vista + XP. No device shown on computer. Thanks Apple! Didn't have this problem before update. How about rolling back your update?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What kind of noise are you getting? If the sounds were a clicking kind of sound:
When clicking and selecting something while on your iPod, it is natural that it sometimes makes some clicking sounds, as it is accessing the hard drive, so it can play a song, for example.
If the clicking sounds seem to be especially rythemic, that isn't good.
The first thing to do is reset your iPod.
Also, see this link; the Five R's may be worth a try:
    The Five R's
If you could describe the noise for us, that would be good.
    I hope this helps.

  • Help with major problem

I have a major problem with my 4th generation iPod. Everytime I go to play it, it will skip songs when I don't want it to, pay for about 10 seconds and skip songs again. Sometimes it will play a song for while and then skip to another song halfway or it will just freeze up. I had this problem before and so I restored it. Now, it is still doing the same thing. I've tried restoring more than once and it still does the same thing. Why is this happening and how do I solve it?
      Windows XP

You could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A
full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on
the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore
the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater)
afterward. This can also work when the iPod is
recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the
iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are
at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked.
Now select "format". It will take a while, but when
that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
If you need to, reset the iPod to exit disk mode.
So far so good except my iPod is not recognised by the updater so I can't restore it. What do I now?

  • IPhoto '11 Major Problems

    Hello,
There are major problems in the new iPhoto '11 and I am wondering if anyone is having the problems listed below.
Every time I open iPhoto 11 it wants to upgrade the photo library. I let it, check around iPhoto and look at pictures, and quit iPhoto and it saves the library all 25000 pictures. So I open iPhoto again and it is asking to upgrade the photo library AGAIN. And it repeats every time I open iPhoto.
I also noticed this on other apps such as iMovie and Garageband. iMovie will upgrade all movies made on iMovie, and Garageband scans for Jam mixes every time I open the apps. After quitting iPhoto, iMovie, or Garageband it seems like it never saves changes. I have not tried iWeb or iDVD yet to see if the problem affects those apps aswell.
This is the first time I am angry at Apple for selling software for $50 when it doesn't even work properly.
I have a feeling that it has something to do with Time Machine backups, because after upgrading my library it started backing up all 120GB of photos again.
I have also heard cases of other people loosing photos, thank god I have a back up, all 120GB of it.
Please Apple release a fix ASAP!!!!

I seems to me as if you have a corrupted iPhoto library. Not bad enough to stop it working in iPhoto 9 but bad enough to cause an upgrade problem.
FWIW I had a corrupted iTunes library that didn't stop iTunes working but every 2nd time I connected my iPod classic it would claim that the iPod library was corrupted. Connect the iPod to a different Mac then back to the first and iTunes was happy for 1 sync -(: go figure.
I have a feeling that it has something to do with Time Machine backups,
because after upgrading my library it started backing up all 120GB of photos again.
I am waiting for Time machine to let me know about the backup size, but would not be surprised if it backed up the complete iPhoto library again.
Just think how difficult it would be to restore from 2 different library versions.
You usually just modify a single library version so then just the change make sense but after a major upgrade of the library version a new backup makes sense to me.
